I own the Glock, the P320, and the APX. I like the trigger on the APX better than the Glock. I think the APX is a more refined pistol than the P320.

Dudes, this gun looks nothing like s glock imo. When these two pistols share the screen, APX makes the Glock look old& cheap.

No Better Than a Glock???? I must disagree!! The grip angle is much, much better on the APX!! I always wanted a Glock because of their reputation for dependability but after trying several times I just gave up. I could not stop pointing upward with the Glock no matter how many draw and points I tried. Now I can have the dependability of Glock along with pointability.

The Beretta APX is a competent pistol. It features a distinguishing slide to set itself apart from the GLOCK which it does copy in some ways. We found it to be accurate, totally reliable, lightweight, and fun to shoot. The trigger could be improved and it probably will be as time goes on. At the price discussed, the Beretta APX is a recommended purchase and I predict it will gain traction in the competitive combat pistol market. While it does not do anything better than the established competition it DOES do it as well and that's saying something. -nutnfancy

nutnfancy manufacturers have one HELL of a time trying to stand out now! All want a signature look that everyone will recognize a a glance. Trying to reinvent the wheel basically. It will only make engineers have to work 10X harder to come out with something NEW! We are going to get some ridiculousness that's just desperately thrown out to see what gets attention or sticks. But all in all it's the consumers that are ultimately going to win! Only downside I can think of is you buy something cool only to have something better come out the very next week!

nutnfancy exactly WHY we need to be critical of them! I remember when there wasn't much choice, 1911 or revolver was pretty much it! I also remember the response Glock got at first. A whole lot of "I'm not gonna carry a plastic TOY!" LOL Now it's the standard all are based on and we have a clamoring to be the next "Glock"!

Another company late to the striker fired, not new to polymer, CZ P10C looks like it has the ability to check a lot of TNP requirements. Hate that it went the Glock copy route and away from slide inside the rails CZ pattern, but everything else seems to be on point. Anxious for a review of one....if you can even find one.

A friend just bought the APX, so I thought I would look a your review of the weapon. Listening to your excellent review, I heard you mention that you shot competitively while you were in the Guard. Since I served, I love everyone who has served whether active or reserve, so thanks for your service. Thanks also for not saying I served but "just in the Guard or just in the Army Reserve". The Soldiers that served in a reserve capacity did double duty and should be commended for it. So if your service was 3 years or 20 years, THANKS again!

I picked up an APX a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't too impressed when I first got it but after shooting it I was amazed at how good it is. For me; shot way better than my glocks and was way more comfortable. Trigger guard may look similar but the APX actually has a trigger guard big enough for adult sized hands and has a nice undercut to it.

We are fortunate to have so many good choices out their when it comes to polymer framed striker fired pistols. I've owned them all and IMO the APX is one of the best. I love the ergonomics and on my particular example the trigger is superb, much better than my Glocks. I just bought a CZ P10c and that too looks to be a really good pistol though I haven't shot it yet. I agree with you on the Caniks, I have a TP9 SA and the newer Elite and the triggers on both are IMO the best of all the polymer framed pistols. Go figure since it's also the most affordable pistol line.
    Thanks for another great review.

Great review, Nutn. I really like the change in format. Though I do miss POU discussion. The APX does one thing better than Glock and that is to be a leftie friendly design. It might only be 10% of the market, but that's not nothing. I would love to see a review on the PX4, as I've always felt it was both handsome and underappreciated. Keep it coming!

I would appreciate a Px4 review. I'm not an owner of one, and my interest are moving away from SF into DA/SA types for EDC. I enjoy the in-video polling, and IDC how you stage your content (infield first/table top second). I watch every GRV religiously, and most of the other content...

CZ is the best way to carry DA/SA hands down. P-07 or P-01, both are amazing pistols in every respect. The PX4 is an answer to a question I've never asked and an ugly, odd-handling one at that with really terrible controls and a safety that has no place on a DA/SA gun.

I own both a Beretta Px4 and a CZ 75 P-01. The CZ is the better gun, and certainly better for carry. The Px4 (in .40) has very easy to manipulate controls, but that comes at a cost; the slide release and safety tend to dig into my side when I carry it. However, the CZ seems more prone to gathering a bit of rust on things like the grip screw if you carry close to your body and you live in a warm environment. The CZ is incredibly accurate, more accurate than the Kimber Raptor, Beretta M9A1, and Glock 22 that I had at the range at the same time. I was hitting close to 50% on a steel plate between 60 and 100 yards standing with the CZ. Much less was my success with the others that day (and the people I was at the range with were able to hit better with the CZ than the others, too). I don't dislike my Beretta; it was my carry for a long time, and I still occasionally carry it in colder weather. But I think if you want a DA/SA hammer fired gun, you'd probably be better off with a CZ. But, you know... chacun a son gout.

The back straps are extremely easy to change so no worries there folks. I haven't seen many reviewers on youtube do the takedown on this gun correctly. It's so unbelievably easy to field strip (easier than the m9). Part of this problem is that in the manual beretta only shows how to field strip the gun using the striker deactivator button. So I think everyone is just guessing until they somehow manage to get the slide off. Next time just don't lock the slide back and it will come right off nice and easy. (the easiest gun I've disassembled is the PX4) as always I really liked the honest review nutnfancy just give that takedown another look if ya get the chance. Keep the vids coming! PS. I think I was on the same lane as you 2 weeks ago shooting the first rounds through my APX. Love my fellow utahns!

I own this pistol and I absolutely love it. The blackstrap is very very easy to change and I was really happy with the large blackstrap even though man hands aren't abnormally large. Large Blackstrap has a piece that goes up on the beaver tail. Field strip press the button with the tip of your left thumb and twist down with your right thumb and you'll be in business

thinking about picking up a compact. i carry a cz 2075 RAMI bd and i love DA/SA guns, but doesnt the compact version not have the rotating action? if it doesnt, id rather have the larger version for the less common/interesting action. also not sure if i could give up carrying the cz. love that thing

    • @dennertuber4982
      @dennertuber4982 7 лет назад +2

The compact has the rotating barrel and is my favorite of the three. Slightly smaller dimensions than a G19. Hard to beat a CZ, but if anything could it would be the PX4 Compact. If you like DA/SA pistols, it's one to have.

I like the look of the pistol better than most of its competitors. The model that I tried had a trigger that felt consistent throughout with a clean break. The modular aspect probably pushes its versatility ahead of competitors and should make this gun a winner in the market.

I think you're wrong my friend at least as far as the P320 goes. I have the 320 Carry and swap between that, the Compact and Subcompact modules all the time depending on what I'm wearing or where I'm going.
The full length slide may not be as handy, but the shorter barrel is easy to carry IWB. I can also swap the large frame for me, to the small for my wife, while at the range.
I think a lot of companies will be going to the modular system.
Great job on your videos, a lot of work put into a review.

That's great for you, but I think you're the minority of P320 owners overall. That may change over time as the exchange kits become more readily available and hopefully less expensive.

    • @TacticalDoodle
      @TacticalDoodle 7 лет назад +5

Hey, it's cool that you put it to use, but it's still not something most people do. It's not a drawback of the design, it's cool and preferable for the consumer because it opens a lot more options than a single setup, but I'd rather have a full firearm if the difference in cost is 30% more than the conversion kit. Just a quick search (not super accurate #'s) Sig's website has a conversion kit for $407 from them, while bouncing on gunbroker I see prices from $380 to $570 for completed 320's with all calibers/sizes, etc. If I'm ever in a WROL type of situation, I'd rather have two pistols up and running instead of tossing my unprepared neighbor a conversion kit and sending him on a fetch quest to find a 320 frame. Now, if it comes with the kit, cool! You're getting some extra value out of that. If you're restricted in how many serials you have, it's also great. But I worry (sig seems to love this stuff) that the marketing folks see conversion kits as a cash cow because they now have high-production parts they can sell along with each system. It all depends on the cost, and the amount I'm paying for the extra kit that makes it worth it. For just swapping frames, that's cool if it's my only pistol. I can see trying to maximize my grip zone for whatever I'm carrying day to day. I do that now, just with extended finger rests anyway, but for most users that's more of an enthusiast capability. If you care enough to like it, rock on! But the majority of folks buying it will leave it in the case and forget about it for long stretches of time. :/ Hopefully the pricing will come down it as production ramps up. A full conversion kit really shouldn't be that much, especially if it starts getting more contracts. $150 for a .40 convo? I'm in.

The Beretta APX is a high quality weapon. Very good machining and a very strong well built frame made to last the life of the weapon. The Beretta APX is superior to my Glock 19 and on level with my HK VP9 in my opinion. I only hope Beretta makes her in sub/compact size.

I do a lot of work with/for my local PD. My local PD and surrounding county she offices did some pistol testing to replace their Glock's. And they invited me to tag along. Several officers dislike their Glock service pistols (keep in mind the LEO CANNOT modify their service guns like civilians can).
the list of pistols that I saw there.
    Beretta APX
    Walther PPQ and P99 9/40
    HK P30 and VP9/40
    FNH FN509
    Springfield XD mod.2 and XDm
    Sig P320/P250
    Glock 17/19/21/22/23
    CZ P-10c P-07.
Not going to get into how each and every pistol performed.
But like you said. The APX didn't "outperform" and other pistols in terms of function. But it didn't "under-perform" either.
I will say that the slide serrations proved to be much more manageable than all the others. no matter what's on your hands. Wet, sweat, mud, blood, grease, guts, etc..... no matter where you grip the slide you get enough grip to rack the slide.
the APX, P99, P320, and FN509 were the best performers.
in the end they chose the P320 (mostly for the modularity along with the different size/caliber configurations)

I think the Beretta APX is as good as any other polymer pistol on the market today. Since the the end of the last century, the 1900's, there has been little improvement to the semi automatic pistols that is groundbreaking or "game changing" I feel as though the semi auto pistol weapon system, has reached a plateau. The driving force now is aesthetics and price, that's about it. I am not, nor have ever been, a fan of Beretta's firearms. No real reason other than I prefer Ford over Chevy, just a choice. I wish everyone the best with their new firearm and am glad we can still exercise having a choice of which manufacturer of a pistol we can choose from. Most important, keep the Second Amendment alive and relevant, join the NRA and you local and state firearm associations. Thanks for what you do Colonel Nutnfancy, your honest and unbiased, (somewhat, we all have some biases), reviews. Carry on and Aim High, sir.

I'm not sure I'd even buy it to try it only because it has more of a 1911 grip angle. I have odd bear paw like big hands with short fingers and very big palms and glocks just fit my hand like a match made in heaven and I shoot them with a natural point of aim. I've tried m&p and Rugers and 1911s and it takes me weeks to months of shooting to be able to shoot it effectively which boils down to muscle memory but my go to night stand gun will always be a gen 4 g20 with 3 mags full of double tap 200gr lead pills. Keep up the good work and great videos.

Re: grip frames- P320 owner here. I live in a free state so caliber changing doesn't appeal to me. What did and does appeal to me is that I have a carry gun and home defense gun all in one, and the "carry" gun only cost me $35 for the additional grip frame. My compact grip frame wears a WML for nightstand duty, and my sub-compact grip frame is sleek and concealable. Takes 10 seconds to change the chassis over. I'd love to purchase a separate sub-compact P320 (along with a hundred other guns), but family life and budget dictates otherwise. I think it's a very cost effective solution for people who want a reliable home defense/carry solution on a budget.
Oh and I think that APX is ugly as the day is long, but it looks like a good shooter.

Great review style. Nutn, are you still in airsoft? You know in countries with strict gun laws, this is often the only way to do the sport. And did you guys notice the prices for airsoft are getting to the level of live guns? (For the high level quality tools that is.)

I see you reference the CZ P10C in your notes... CZ review coming soon? I would be very happy to see a nutnfancy review of such a hyped pistol. I'll admit that I like CZ's but I do wonder if the P10C is a bit overblown.

I think a good point would be would you buy it as your first full size pistol. You say you have 3 strong systems so no you wouldnt buy it. Most people have one full size system only. Or maybe they have a ccw pistol and are looking for a more battle ready hand gun. I think we agree that this would at least be a contender.
Maybe some older guys have a beretta shot gun but have steered away from poly guns and brand is something they consider.
Great review and nice looking pistol.

I noticed that quite a few people say, whenever a new gun comes out...I'm not replacing my xyz, I assume as a justification for not buying the new gun. I don't believe one has to replace a gun when another comes out, add it to the collection. Some folks like one certain type, I get it but variety might be good for some. Of course I now have an APX, good gun and review. It wont replace my any of my Glocks but it looks good in the collection.

I'd bet it's just like the carbine 'best of' vid we shot together. Glock 17, XD(M), PPQ would prolly round out his top 3 with honor mention for the TP9. Glocks are still immensely tough to beat, especially when you factor in parts & support to them. Not too many pistols out there have readily available 30 round mags for it! Hell, i think the last 938 mag I got could've bought me 1.5 of the supersticks for the glock. For most folks starting out their collection (and if things change politically, they may be stuck with what they get forever) a glock is it. They have a good amount of commonality between mags, holsters, parts, training, on top of a truly game-changing pistol that has been proven the world over. If they've got a system going though, each of it's competitors has something to add and improve on. XDm's are super easy to shoot, the TP9 is a high-value (at least I'd say) VP9 from another mother, and the PPQ is a master-class in german/affordable/reliable/easyshooting 9mm doublestack design. Any buyer today faces the greatest dilemma of all though: how to choose between a field of superb, increasingly evenly-matched competitors.

Very happy its finally out....It looks like a REALLY Flat shootin pistol,...Its easier to push the button and rotate the lever with the slide forward,.. then pull trigger..only sayin so you can try that,. It still looks like a great gun to me. The only question that was brought up is, "What does it have that the Glock doesn't?", and now that nearly a year has passed since it was released, it's the price. I think the APX has Glock beaten just like most pistols that have been put out in the past year. I'm now stuck deciding between the APX, P-10C, Steyr M9A1, and the M&P 2.0 Compact for my next purchase.

I was curious if you could do a review on the beretta px4 storm. I know on this video you said you'd probably never do one but I find your reviews and videos very helpful not just for me but also while I'm assisting customers in finding a certain firearm that best suits their needs plus I've been curious about the firearm for a while and your videos are extremely helpful with the way the firearm performs with multiple types of ammo so I don't have to go out and purchase it and run the risk of not liking the firearm. Thank you very much for reviewing my comment. Have a great day.

Awesome Review, I have the Beretta Apx 9mm, I agree 100% with everything you said. The only down fall in my opinion is that trigger plunger that extrudes when the trigger is pulled. Other than that the Beretta Apx is a GTW pistol all day long.

When you are doing the "would I buy it?" section you should answer that question from two points of view: 1) would you buy it if you already have a glock etc and 2) from the point of view of someone who is looking for that class of gun but doesn't have any of the competitive options.
Even though you said it was a great gun, the last thing you say in the video is that you wouldn't buy it and a ton of people are just going to hear that and not take anything else away from the video.
Just my 2c, good video, take care!

Glock has been coasting on its name and reputation for the better part of a decade. They were once the best, most affordable semi auto pistol on the market... But, today, there are half a dozen manufacturers who make a better quality firearm (right outta the box), for about the same (or less) money than your beloved Glock. Basically, Glock fanboys are the Apple fanboys of the handgun world. Even though there's (now) a bunch of phones and computers that are far better on the market, they still suckle from the teet of Apple... just like Glock nuts.

I think that bereta didn't put any thought of putting this pistol out earlier because of the "military contract" and now that it's gone they have to sell to the public to compensate. Seems like a really strong platform and solid performer.

My "JAD-Civilian" patches arrived in the mail a couple days ago ... nice work again. For me, the clear winner is the 3-D vinyl: really crisp, clear lines that you just can't do with the traditional sewn patch. My only worry would be if there are durability issues with the colour rubbing off with hard use (???) but other than that, it's the clear winner.
The brown sewn patch is good too ... the red sewn patch comes in 3rd place for me, but only because it says "Civilian" without "Just Another Dumb@$$". I don't think you need to worry too much about doing a "non-tacticool" colour scheme on this patch, as any colour of this one just screams "tactical schmactical".
(Hey, "tactical schmactical" would look cool on a nametape.)
    Cheers!

+Ian Henderson If I had my original coloring on the red patch, It's be pink and RGB shades. Really simple and crayon lookin' type of thing, but in the end people weren't into it when I tested them out. Who knows though, future batches may have something super cool in there if I do a run that matches it! I wanted one of the civvie patches to omit 'dumbass' to be a little more work-safe. The PVC is a tester, but the ones we've had so far have been working out. Oddly, they're less popular than the embroidered ones! -Doodle

I think it would be cool to see another drill similar to what you and BAD did with the single stack 9s. Except do the standard setters - Glock 17, M&P, Springfield but then throw in the new competitors like Sig 320, APX, Steyr etc. and see what things that are improving but what some things the older designs are still doing better at.

The "Function > Form" mantra I go by likes the slide serrations but the rest of me thinks it's but ugly so... I will remain torn on that point but I also have 3 CZ's with forward serrations that are about as good looking as a pistol can be (both P-07 and 09 as well as a P10C) so the Beretta would be a hard sell to want to make me want to buy one. The frame/grip looks, to me, like an M&P (Yuk) with better moulding (minus the finger grooves) or even a bit like the CZ P10c (awesome pistol BTW) and I actually like the concept of serializing the trigger group and the ability to change the frame. Even if I never use the feature, I think it's smart and I like the OD and FDE frames personally. Still don't see ever buying one, much like the truly "never gonna happen" PX4 Storm series.
