    i have always like the apx. you can pick up a first gen reasonably cheap. it is a shame that they weren't more popular than they were. the optic ready slide should help the sales of the a1. if i needed another polymer striker fired handgun, i would pick one of these up.

    • @JacksonWalter735
      @JacksonWalter735 2 года назад +5

      I think they could have been really popular if Beretta kept up with the demand back when covid first happened. They sold pretty quickly whenever my uncle's gun store got them in stock, but getting more to restock took forever. It felt the same way at other stores and even big box retailers.

    • @SW990
      @SW990 2 года назад +4

      @@JacksonWalter735 Agreed! I wanted one and when I started looking I couldn't find them anywhere... I was checking the local sporting goods store and the local Sportsman's Warehouse. I finally found an APX A1 at the local farm and ranch store. The guy at the counter said they actually had APXs on order, but it'd taken so long for Beretta to fill the orders they started sending APX A1s.

    I’m not bothered by needing to order an optics plate from Beretta. Although they are $50, the gun itself can be had for $375 currently and Beretta runs sales for nearly every holiday. You can get the gun and a plate for $400 if you shop the sales. For the quality of the gun, I think that is quite a remarkable price point.

    I really wanted to own a gen1 APX. I liked the looks and tire-lug slide design seemed like it'd be better in wet or cold conditions. The A1 trigger and optic-ready design seems to an improvement for those who use red dots. Unfortunately, I live in the fair-weather state of California, where I cannot own either.

    I bought one. Had to send it back to Beretta to have the slide refinished. It came back perfect, but it took 3 months. It did not come with a manual and could not get it apart to clean. I had a p10c, didn't like that the irons where aluminum(lost finish pretty fast), rusted easily in the roll pins, polymer backplate was easy to move up in down in the back of the slide, and the grip was a little too aggressive on the corners. $450 is ridiculous for a quality striker fired pistol? You know the catalog only shows the MSRP? I have the older APX and got the new A1 when my local shop had it for $425 and they were covering tax during a sale. I like both and the benefit to me for the A1 was to have an option to add a red dot, which I immediately threw on a Burris FF3 that I found for $150 new. So for around $600 I got a pistol I am confident would go up against any other on the market for quality and reliability.

    I have owned the original APX for the last five years. The appeal of this pistol came from it's selection for testing in the MHT program. That in its self is a significant plus for the gun. I watched your
    review hoping it incorporated some significant improvements. I noted the changes you highlighted in your video, but are they real performance enhancements? The main change they neglected was improving the modularity disassembly which essentially remained the same. The Sig M-17 design is certainly an example of an efficient and easy to removal chassis, which is not
    the case with APX or APX-A1. I suppose the changes you describe are good as an upgrade, but I am still not convinced to purchase one. The original APX is a accurate well made pistol and flat shooting .I will continue to research this pistol and determine if its upgrade i would consider. Thank you for your excellent videos which provide insightful information which I enjoy watching.

    I think Beretta saw your video. The plates are $30 now. I'm enjoying mine. The proprietary thing with buying accessories is a pain but from what I'm seeing there's no gouging like Sig Sauer I can buy 2 17rd Beretta mags for the price of 1 Sig mag (same manufacturer I think too). This pistol isn't getting the love it deserves. I find it slightly better than the Glock 17. The APX ergos are way better. If you handle one of these you'll likely buy one. Beretta has improved the prices on plates though still only available through them. But overall Im impressed with Beretta. Heck, Beretta had my mags in the mail in like 10-12hrs after ordering. If you're looking for the "Anti Glock" this may be the fugly duckling of a pistol for you. Im digging my A1 a lot.

    Thanks! You almost completely clarified the differences. The only thing you didn't touch on was the frame differences (the accessory rail appears to be bulkier or more pronounced. It makes the nose aesthetics blocky & square. ie...less attractive). The RED DOT cut & the trigger (kickstand) safety are the the greatest improvements! The slide serrations are aesthetically less attractive, and functionally...a matter of personal preference. Beretta could have improved the original serrations by adding 2 additional serrations and reducing the size of the gaps between them, or...by eliminating or reducing all those diagonal tapers on the serrations! All those tapers they used to prevent snagging caused the "slippery when wet" issue! They should've made the original serrations more aggressive or added more of them by 2 to reduce the smooth gaps between them! The greatest issues with the APX is that Beretta is trying to get military & police contracts! More aggressive Serrations pose a snag hazzard! Police & military users don't need a firearm snagging while being drawn from it's holster! Those Jurassic Raptor-like Serrations gave the APX it's unique distinction, sexy style & visual appeal! It's all about the serrations. The A1 is a just another service drone for mass production & sales to police! The "Originals" are more valuable as collector items now! And Beretta can increase profits by manufacturing & selling just the "original" slides in cerakote'd colors (Grey & Tan) without all the diagonal tapering to the serrations!

    This was a really good review. I have owned the APX original full size and now the APX original Compact (13 rounds 9mm).
    Like you I like the original serations on the original slide. I saw no need to change that honestly. I do not use red dots so that didn't impress me with the APX 1. I found your point about the triggers really interesting and I never noticed that. I too saw the triggers as very similar. I kept the original out of the box grips on my APX but I feel that is a personal choice.
    Can I ask what distance you were shooting at? Also and I don't mean this as a criticism of you in anyway, you are obviously a very capable shooter, but when you were shooting the APX 1 after the APX original I noticed a little bit of shaking --I think your arms got tired. I say this because you remark that you weren't hitting as well with the new APX. I think that was fatigue; nothing more.
    I again agree with you about the upgrading to an APX 1 and I am keeping my original APX Compact. This was the first striker fire pistol I found I really like. For full disclosure though I am a big Beretta fan and have been since I was in the military learning on a 92.
    Thanks for the video and you got a subscriber out of this video. I look forward to seeing your other reviews/videos. 👍
    PS: I have Trijicon night sights on mine. I like those.

    The fact that the original and the A1 both have proprietary to Beretta dovetail sight cuts in the slide seems a bad idea considering aftermarket choices
    Its optics ready, so how many options for suppressor height sights is Beretta putting out there for this model with their proprietary sight cut because it seems your choices are very limited at best for co-witnessing your sight line.

    Great review. I appreciate the distinctions made between the two versions. I also prefer the looks of the original slide and there was a red dot version of that slide which I would prefer if I had the option. I do have a suggestion for you regarding another Beretta review. Review the APX Carry again st the new APX A1 Carry. Many of the same differences but the trigger in the A1 Carry is supposed to be lighter/better than the original. That would be a very useful review.

    It seems like everyone who did buy the original APX liked the serration design. There just wasn't enough of us. The case still has the serration design on it too. Shame it looks like everything else now. The new APX has the "competition" trigger spring and recoil spring but it sounds like they don't really change much.

    I think the old APX looks better this looks more like a Ruger and a IWI had a baby and it was so ugly they left it at a Fire Department plus the old APX was underrated to begin with I liked it better than the P320!🔥🤯🔫

    Simply my two cents. I fake Beretta does not include the mounting plates because it would add to the cost of the gun initially.
    I purchased a couple blocks that came with all the mounting plates and paid extra for three extra plates that I didn't need. I don't have any problem with having to order the correct plate for whatever red dot you end up putting on. Also, it keeps the cost down for the individuals like myself who probably aren't going to mount anything on there.

    From someone that was shot and reviewed a lot of pistols, what is your recommendation for better values and better handguns out there?

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  2 года назад +3

      If someone wants a gun that is optics ready, I recommend one of the brands that provides adapter plates with the pistol at purchase. Or, something like the Shadow Systems that require no plates and accommodate nearly all optics. Those guns are more expensive than the APX A1, so it is up to each buyer to determine value - I just point out what I think is important to know.

      @@JustinOpinionChannel I would say for polymer striker optics ready, right out of the box the M&P M2.0 is the best choice. Already has plates and sights that work with optics.

    The apx original and the apx a1
    Would have more than likely doubled their sales if they did one little thing.
    And that is have magazine compatibility with the 92.
    They wanted to keep the apx magazines proprietary to the gun but that cut back in their sales because of the lack of compatibility with the 92.
