How these Japanese players talk with respect and humility. Role models that our younger generation should up look up too unlike many athletes in other sports leagues.
Yu was selected by the Nipponham Fighters while I was living in Japan, so I was able to watch him play before he made it to the majors. He was the most popular baseball player then, comparably to how Ohtani is now. Also, Ohtani's team in Japan was the Nipponham Fighters. So Ohtani really views him as his "Senpai" = Upperclassmen/Senior.
I can appreciate Ohtani so much more after this! Even amongst the Japanese players, Ohtani is very different. Love his playful, humble, and gentle character!
Yeah but.. Yu specifically mentioned how they all are great opponents that he has to prepare against, not just one guy (Shohei). I felt he carefully worded it giving respect to other players equally, but the interpreter pretty much watered it down.
unfortunately, not accurate. it does not matter how correct translation is but the guy misses important msg from Yu to the interviewer. Dogers has many strong hitters and Yu said he cannot just focusing on Shohei.
No he's not very accurate and too many " you know"s" leaving out some core part of what he says. The guy has good pronunciation so you are easily fooled. I used to be an freelance interpreter in the bay area for 30 or more years.
Totally. He’s like MJ was to basketball in the 90s. Very different cultural backgrounds (obviously) and different personalities but there are a lotta similarities, too. At any rate, Sho-time is the biggest star baseball has ever had in my lifetime. And I’m 56.
Yu Darvish also said on national TV in Japan that Shohei would never make it in the majors as a two-way player and that he should give up that pipe dream and just choose one discipline. Fuel to the fire perhaps but when your childhood idol shits on you like that in front of everyone it's not fun.
Yu Darvish ... GIVES UP 5 runs in the first inning of GAME 7 of the world series. He single handedly deflated the whole team .. It was wild. Dodgers fans will never forgive him for throwing ducks right down the middle.
are u actually stupid? that was astros cheating and knowing what pitches were coming. and this is coming from a dodger fan. u should be ashamed for even saying dumb sh*t like this
Remember Darvish cheats on his ex-wife and model Saeko? This is the guy who teamed up with any bunch of trash talkers in San Diego such as Manny Machado. Go Ohtani and Dodgers!
This kind of cheating topic trash talk should take a rest forever. Cheating is of course is prohibited in Islam, as it is considered as the same thing as zina. Sebagai seorang laki-laki yg lahir di bulan suci Islam, sebagai keistimewaan, saya percaya orang tersebut diberikan rahmat dan kemampuan untuk poligami. Terlihat dari sikapnya yg serius. Laki laki dibenarkan demikian, jika dia dianggap mampu berbuat adil. Itu salah satu bentuk keadilan, by giving her full credit and respect, and appreciation. I think Yu Darvish is really strict when it comes to his family's privacy. Humans nowadays are about greediness and laziness.
Totally disrespectful Darvish is not speaking to us in English. Look at what this country has done for him. He speaks English and we don’t care about his accent. But it’s disrespectful at this point.
American players playing overseas also have translators. No one found it to be disrespectful. It's disrespectful for you to think that it's disrespectful for him to speak through a translator.
Baseball is an international sport, and a business. They speak Japanese for the Japanese media as well. The other reason is also if they want to be more articulate in their answers and they don't have enough of a command of English to express themselves in a deeper way. In a way that can be viewed as respect in itself. Not wanting to give a dumb downed answer because of limited English skills.
It is an overstatement, but understand that Darvish influenced pretty much all of the current Japanese players in MLB. Darvish is the reason why there's a posting of Japanese players each year.
Gotta like the guy. He’s a thoughtful gentleman.

its sad how much racism he received from his own fans during his first few years in the mlb.

Yu Darvish looks like a real-life anime character
Yu understands English questions and does not need to translate them into Japanese. A good player.
I believe he responds in japanese for the people back in japan, same with ohtani. Both can speak english especially darvish
One of my favorite pitcher ❤
Damn good pitcher, got a lot of movements on his stuff.
Darvish's interpreter is the most accurate among all the other ones.

Shota Imanaga's (@Cubs) interpreter is also pretty good. The worst one is Yamamoto's (@Dodgers).

all the questions are about shohei. baseball belongs to shohei
Yea… baseball is not team sport. They don’t need 9 players. They just need 1 person to do all positions to play the game and that’s Ohtani
Totally. He’s like MJ was to basketball in the 90s. Very different cultural backgrounds (obviously) and different personalities but there are a lotta similarities, too. At any rate, Sho-time is the biggest star baseball has ever had in my lifetime. And I’m 56.
Questions are mainly about Shohei cause they are both Japanese. Media wants to know about their friendship etc
9 shohei ohtani’s would beat 9 of any other single player
Everyone benefits from that, more revenue to the league.
Future Chicago Cubs Hall Of Famer
Are you serious? A Cubs HOF?😂😂😂

Lol. Your comment and choices of words and phrasing showed you understand very little about Japanese culture.
Very little.
Hoping here that what is going on in his father's country will not affect his performance.
keep hoping. lol
im surprise yu davarish actually understand english lol
We are not worthy of Japanese players they are the best Go 🇯🇵
Darvish reacts to Ohtani idolizing him. Then Yu wrecks Shohei and the Dodgers to a 10-2 loss in game 2 in the NLDS and 😂😂
And then the Dodgers smack two homers off Darvish in game 5 to send the Padres to Cancun

His ex-wife cheated on him, not Darvish. Do not guess and mention without truth.
ダルビッシュは被害者だと思いますよ。元妻が彼に嘘をついて他の男と不倫したのです。

English is not the official language of USA. Hope you know this amigo 😊

Only to you because you were born speaking English, your disrespectful to his own language. No one owe anything to anyone.
Actually it is the opposite. He is being respectful by speaking in Japanese, so that he is not misunderstood. Ichiro did the same thing.
Go ahead and git dis Ninja his statue already and call it a day.....
What r u doin'?😅
Ohtani idolizing darvish is pushing it lil bit too much.....respect is there certainly
