- Now let me make myself VERY clear.
This video will ONLY remain up if its viewers behave like MATURE ADULTS.
No spamming,arguing,etc.
AND DEFINITELY NO "CLEVER COMMENTS" REGARDING THE DISLIKES.
I hate to do this but its just necessary, unfortunately.
ENJOY THE CLIP :)
So far, Rent is the only movie I have seen where all relationships are treated equal, human, regardless of gender or orientation. I really appreciate that.
Seriously
They don't even throw in any of that "It's okay to be gay!" shit
Like, they're chillin
They're acting like they're any other couple.
THATS what I like the most about it
I love singing along to the bit where Mimi gets mad ("He was the same way, he was always- run away, hit the road, can't commit you're full of shit!"); it's just so full of rage.
I always tear up a little when the girls sing "I'd be happy to die for a taste of what Angel had."
samee
yeah me to
i feel like we all would say the same thing because
. well .
angel was so so happy
well to be fair mimi DID die a few sceen later so she got her wish as Roger sang a love song to her on her death bed the movie gods are cruel and ironic at time still i cant wait to see this musical in full i have listened to a few of the songs and i think it be right up my street
add on to my last comment i saw the whole musical and Mimi does not die :D yay the youtube vid cut out at a pivital moment in the movie
In the original Mimi dies. But they let her live in this
Most heart breaking part for me is when Mark sings "Mimi's gotten thin. Mimi's running out of time and you're running out the door!"
Felicity Dolores bruh that is one the parts that get me really tough
For the longest time, I thought he said, "And guess who's running out the door?" and it still plays that way in my head. It breaks me every time.
"Perhaps it's because I'm the one of us to survive...." Such a dark and depressing line
:( Poor Mark watching his friends fall apart and after Angel died. :(
"I can't believe this family must die..." (1:33) Hits me everytime :'( Especially how smoothly Jesse sings it.
it always baffled me how the best song was cut from the movie
sarina omg same!
Ikr!! I was disappointed, I almost watch the movie just to see how they did it.
EXACTLY
I feel so bad for Mimi when she starts singing Goodbye love and runs to the window; watching Roger drive away and having to deal w the disease without him.
I still can't believe that this was cut from the final release.... Such a great song along with being vital to the plot.
I think the reason why it was cut out of the final release is because (this is just my opinion) what Roger says to Mark might've been too mean and when they make up at the end of the song What You Own, it doesn't really seem believable that they would make up that easily. That's what I think, plus the scene might've been too sad. I know I started to get teary eyed when Mimi started to sing. I could hear and feel the pain and sadness in her voice.
According to I think the director, this song was the only time roger and mark sang to each other in the movie and he wanted to keep that dynamic that through the movie with all the singing mark and roger always talked to each other
Oh. I didn't know that. Is that on the Dvd commentary? Cause I've seen the movie, but I haven't found a Dvd of the movie yet. Thanks for sharing that information with me.
Da Gray Wolf yep, deleted scenes commentary
Da Gray Wolf try your local library. that's where I found it
Maureen wiping Joanne's tear had me in tears
when Roger said "loves not a three way street" I think he's talking about the heroine more than Benny. He is using Benny as an excuse to leave mimi, you see him in without you coming to her and leaving when there's heroine. He is, as stated later in this song, afraid to watch mimi die and between her hiv and heroine addiction it's clear that it's coming, the hiv she can't control bit the heroine she can.
*dies over Roger's voice*
*cries when Tom confront them for fighting*
THIS STUPID MUSICAL PUTS WATER IN MY EYES.
"Because I'm the one of us to survive."
I was so mad they cut that argument scene out of the movie. It gives so much insight into Roger and Mark's relationship. That one line tells you more about Mark's character than almost anything else in the entire show (except for maybe the song Halloween)
marks character has a ton of depth that never makes it into the official movie!!! like how hes basically just the observer and he can only sit and watch and document his group of friends falling apart and that breaks my heart holy shit
!!!! Mark's character is so under appreciated unless you watch the show as opposed to the movie.
It also sheds a good light on Benny, with him paying for her rehab and him knowing where she was and when she didn’t show up. That he really did care.
This was one of the best acted scenes in the film imo and they cut it?! Also Roger and Mark invented roast wars before they were cool.
The song at the cemetery ? That's still in. I assume you mean when Mimi sings it.
Yeah, the second half of it for me is the best :)
Karen Millington that's because it's the important part. You are very correct.
according to the info i read up; Chris Columbus, the director thought that it would be an emotional overload, that's why it was cut.
The whole song should have been in the movie but Chris Columbus decided to use only the cemetery scene because he said that he thought if he used the entire song it would be too long. He said in an interview for the movie that he wanted to do the film Justice basically so people who didn't have access to a Broadway Theater could still experience to show the way he did what you cut a song.
This entire movie make you think about the value of love, and friendship, and whats its like losing a loved one. This hits home for me because somebody very close to me, passed away from AIDS, and this is so emotional for me, and to this day, I miss him, and I wish he were still here with me, and he never had the AIDS virus. RIP.
The "hello, disease" at the end gives me chills every time.
God, so many parts of these lyrics kill me...
"Love's not a three way street! You'll never share real love until you love yourself!!"
"From facing your failure, from facing your loneliness, facing the fact you live a lie. Yes, you live a lie! Tell you why! You preach not to be numb when that's how you thrive! You pretend to create and observe when you really detach from feeling alive!"
"You don't want baggage without lifetime guarantees, you don't wanna watch me die. I just came to say goodbye love."
And then there's One Song Glory mixed in and I'm such a mess...
to true I also love "I can't believe he's gone. I can't believe your going" "perhaps its because I'm the one of us to survive" Mimi sing goodbye love. "Mimi's gotten thin Mimi's running out of time and your running out the door" still watching in 2015 :) :) :)
Yep. I've been watching since I was like, 6ish. Of course, I didn't understand then, but still. Those lyrics are also really good. When Mark sings that last one, I can really feel his anger.
+Kira Motrodante same I might have been watching it since I was like 3 just remembering certain parts of certain songs this movie really shaped me
+Shawn Huggins to bad alot of the songs have the lyrics changed :/
Whitney Sweitzer yes that's why I have all of them in a play list on RUclips
"mimi still loves you are you really jealous or afraid that Mimi's weak (Mimi did look pale) Mimi's gotten thin Mimi's running out of time and your running out the doooor"
+Shawn Huggins I was so angry he didn't step up for her )-: so much pain when she died
+Riv Racost she didn't though?
She does in the Dutch version of the musical, with the creator of the original musical's approval. They even rewrote the finale to be much more cynical to reflect it.
Know I'm late as hell, but they've always said that Mimi may not die on stage, but she's got hours left
The way Mimi looks at Roger and tries to follow him when singing "Goodbye" at the cemetery...Makes me cry everytime
God dammit Mimi's line at the end always kills
Mimi's line! Rosario gave it so much feeling, I loved it
So sad that the maker of this movie has passed...I could only imagine what other movies he could have made...
Jonathan Larson was the creator of RENT on offbway and Bway. He died before opening night in 1996. The movie version was made 10 years later with some of the original Bway cast
The creator of this movie did not die.
helleuw they are referring to the creator of "Rent" Jonathan Larson did pass away in 96' not the person who produced the movie.
+1nevaeh2008 well he had nothing at all to do with the movie.
Damn....anyone else think Roger is being needlessly harsh to Mark in this? I doubt he meant any of what he said.
Why would he mean it? That's his best friend. Mark was only trying to keep everyone in control but he was in front of the Roger bus and got hit, hard. He was very Harsh on Mark but Mark chooses to take it in because that's what he does.
Brittany Broquadio Mark was always everyone's rock and when Roger came at him like that he was shocked because Roger hadn't been that harsh to him in a long time, not since his withdrawal I'd say, and Mark being Mark took it to heart, that's what he does.
Turn up Roger!!! "AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH YOUR WORDS ARE NICE MIMI!!" lol
''BUT LOVE'S NOT A THREE-WAY STREET!''
Caleb McCreary
"YOU'LL NEVER SHARE REAL LOVE, UNTIL YOU LOVE YOURSELF, I SHOULD KNOW"
i cried through out the movie then when I seen this I smiled alittle
Well he's actually saying "all your words are nice Mimi" but its still great
I think he says 'All your words are nice Mimi' But I could be wrong.
I almost threw my laptop!!! WTF!!! I've never seen the rest of this!!! Now I'm on a mission to find the director's cut!! What else am I missing!!!!??? My world is in shambles!!!
this song was cut from the movie because they wanted it to be able to be veiwed by kids
Look for "Halloween" Mark's solo at Angel's funeral. It's almost as brilliant as this is. And yeah, I'd love to have the director's cut too.
yeah me as well
I will!!!
i need to get that cut
If you ever want to make me cry, just turn this song on
I'd be happy to die for a taste of what Angel had..
I love the part where he sings *Your words are nice Mimi* 😍😍😍
I just got chills at the end when she was singing and running to the window I love it!
Roger's voice makes me melt
Thank you so much for sharing this - i'd never seen this scene before (so i was wondering why "Goodbye Love" was 6 minutes and 44 seconds long haha), and it just adds so much depth to the movie, and fills in a lot of the blanks with regard to "What We Own" (and arguably the best bro hug in the history of ever!) sad they cut it but i guess they must have had their reasons... Again, thanks for sharing musicalfreakgrlagain :)
Collins is the only character who isn't pretentious and drama-causing... I feel for him, he has to go through having his friends fighting at the funeral of someone he loves. Poor dude.
'yes, a lie; tell you why-
you're always preaching not to be numb
when that's how you thrive
you pretend to create and observe
when you really detach from feeling alive'
roger's verse at mark always hits me hardest.
such a sad part of the movie why did they have to fight when Collins is the one they should be caring about
but good job Collins for nocking in some sense
This is my favorite scene from the musical. I absolutely love all of the emotion in this song.
Yeah I always think that line "perhaps it because I am the one of us to survive" is the one of the saddest lines in the musical (well saddest thing that has nothing to with angel)
That escalated quickly.
This is so powerful. I love their voices together.
I always read him as being detached and observant, watching people around him live harsh lives, and surviving it by staying clear out of it.
Its why I relate to him so much... Never seen this scene before though; kinda proud my character analysis was right on spot like that... though what Roger said actually cut me like a knife because of how much I related to Mark when I watched this...
I will not get tired of this movie ever.
the whole thing should be in the movie
I NEVER see this movie or play too many times. I know it word for word god I adore it.
I love the part where Mimi sings goodbye love, it is so emotionally strong!
"I can't believe he's gone..." This is what I think about when thinking about Cory's death! :(
I love this song. It gets me every time.
goodbye love, hello......disease. i love this musical. so deep.
i sing because i fell happy with my joy. for this movie. that i fell in love in with this movie. that why i watched i felt the pain of tom. because i have a loss family few years ago. that why i cryed on angel furnerl at the church. with the lovable cast of rent. thank you. loved this movie so much. that why i loved to watch this feeling sad heartbreaking away film. god job guys the cast of rent. thank you. you guys much.
my goodness the climax of the music at 5:30-5:35 gives me chills each time I hear it!
I never get enough of Rent. it has a very strong massage that hits your core.... I cry everytime i watch it. this are things that happen everyday so sad.
This is the one musical that I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME.
i wish i could like this song a thousand times more! i love it SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much
Mark's words made me want to cry. This scene is so powerful... it will never leave me.
Thanks for posting. I always thought leaving out "Goodbye Love" was a MAJOR weakness of the movie. It was crucial to the storyline, imho. Plus, just a beautiful song by a beautiful actress.
Okay but they also cut a crucial part of Mark and Rogers argument. When Mark says, “for someone who’s always been let down, who’s running out of town?” And Roger harshly replies “for some who longs for a community of his own, who’s with his camera..alone??” Like damn. That hits in the feels and reveals a lot about Roger and Mark. Why cut that?!?
I can NOT handle life right now!! i am beyond obsessed with RENT and had zero clue of this deleted scene until now. i was just looking for the song goodbye and was lucky to have found this epic clip! thank you Musicalfreakgrlagain!!!!!
this is one of my favorite songs in the whole movie
"Goodbye love, hello disease..."
It wasn't cut from the movie I had.
I really enjoy this movie. One of my favorite songs is seasons of love
I love the whole thing its better why did they cut this from the movie
Scott Schwed they didn’t
they did cut it from the movie it's a deleted scene and it was most likely cut for time
pippa phillips It was definitely cut. I've watched the movie plenty and never knew about this extra song until today.
It was not been cut
Scott Schwed they never cut it
I also think Roger's "poor baby" line says so much in so little. A two word sentence that basically reflects his bitterness and depression about knowing he's going to die.
"Hey for someone who's always been let down who's heading out of town!" "For someone who longs for a community of his own who's with his camera alone"
Wow they definitely should have left that scene in there!!!! It adds so much depth to Roger and Mark's characters, as well as there relationship. You can see most of Roger's struggles in the movie, but this adds a whole new side to why he treated Mimi the way he did. As for Mark, he didn't seem to face many challenges in the movie other than Maureen. Here we see a fear that is no where else in the movie: that he's gonna be alone too. This would've changed the ENTIRE movie.
"i'd be happy to die for what angel had!!" i've always loved that line, when i was single that was my motto, but now i found someone who angel had :-)
I still think Collins did a great job of knocking in some sense but of all things roger what did you get yourself into Mimi is dying and your running away also why does everyone go to Santa fa?
So much emotion 😢 such wonderful performances from everyone ❤️ 💖
Mimi's gotten thin, Mimi's running out of time! fav line in the song
You all did amazing work in this movie,i almost cry everytime,i just hold it lol and i love every single actor or actress love you guys, keep it up
You all said you be cool today so please for my sake
This is my favorite song in RENT and it was cut from the final film... Bull crap!
I know. It made Chris Columbus heartsick to do it, but the film just seemed to flow better without it. It was his favorite scene, though. That's why he put it on the speacial features DVD.
I heard the reason it was cut was because the filmmakers thought it provoked emotion in the audience at the wrong point...when it was being audience tested or whatever, they found the audience were more distraught during this song than during what was supposed to be the climax of the movie, Mimi dying. So they removed this song so that the audience would feel sadder later on in the movie than they would if they had kept it, which was a shame because this scene is just absolutely fantastic.
Is it bad that if RENT revived, I'd want to be every single character. ESPECIALLY FREAKING ANGEL. Because I can play the drums and s(he)'s fabulous.
I cried this whole song. it's beautiful, yet sad.
Omg! I love this song! Never heard goodbye love before, now when I watch RENT, I'm gonna pause it then watch this on RUclips at that part. Then it won't be a deleted scene!
They thought wrong. This scene makes the scene of Mimi dying sadder. The symbolism between Roger leaving and her starting to give up paired with Roger returning and Mimi dying and coming back to life again so compliments each other. They never should have cut Goodbye Love from the movie.
THank you for this...I have seen this scene in the plays and wished it was in the movie
i like singing this alone, its beautiful, and just i like wanna cry and i love marks part the best "A friend..."
I saw the movie first and the next day I was online ordering tickets to see the musical when it came to my local city.
Well the cemetery was there but the song right after it is not; so that is a deleted scene I wish it would have not been a deleted scene because Goodbye Love was a beautiful song and really got to the heart :'( Gives me goose bumps every time with tears
Thank you for this~! I always felt there was a scene missing before he left for Santa Fe~!! XD
Saddest part of the movie...cried so hard!
We all have baggage, some is emotional, some is physical, some is mental. No ones perfect.
even here they don't have the part "M: HEY. for someone who's always been let down, who's leaving town? R: for someone who wants a community of his own, who's with his camera, alone?" that's probably my favorite part of the song. i adore mark, and that line really hits home about how he feels.
i can relate.
i wish they'd done his character justice.
First part is, second half is a deleted scene. The song "Goodbye Love" which features in the second half of this video is from the original stage musical, but was deleted from the movie cut.
I cried A LOT in this movie... :'(
when mimi first say"i just came ta say good bye love" i start to cry. its crazy. love this song tho.
I feel like Mark so much...
i heard this song. i almost cryed on because i have a death family too. in there in heaven and they can not come bakck. and that i could understand this songs. because their give us a message about the movie. it is a great good feeling to hear these songs. i loved it.
this musical always makes me tear up 😭
This song always hits me in the heart....
I wish they would've kept this part in the movie. Because after the funeral it seemed like Roger just up and left and it was really weird. But this explains alot of it.
wow i seen this movie four different time each time i find a different song that hits home
2:02 I hear the opening riff to Lean on Me!
It's from Take Me Or Leave Me (lovely how you see Maureen comforting Joanne at that moment) but that does sound like Lean on Me :)
Adam pascal voice gives me life ❤️
This is probably the best scene in the movie. I can't believe they cut it.
I think I love you. Comments like that are so degrading to any video with actual content - it makes me wonder if the person who posted care about the content at all or if they just want to stir some rage in the fans to get a high-voted comment.
Either way. I always find 1:19 so heartbreaking. First time I saw the scene (on youtube, not in context) I couldn't help muttering over how disrespectful they were for fighting like that right after Angels funeral and within view of her(?) lover.
You know your parents are awesome when for your 14th birthday you ask for this soundtrack.
i've always liked the goodbye love scene...really shows Mimi took a shot of maturing
Makes Me Cry EveryTime I See It
