  • ORVIS casting instructor Pete Kutzer shows you how to get your line on the water in order to make your first cast. Pete offers two options: a short bow-and-arrow cast or a roll cast. Each will get your line out in front of you, allowing you to then make a standard backcast and get your line out in the water and with some tension on it.

Just bought an orvis rig for my first ever fly fish set up. Holy moly this tip is invaluable for someone who has no idea what they're doing.

Pete I'm new to fly fishing less than 2 years and don't get to do it a whole lot but wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your instructional videos. You make it look so simple. We're headed out west from the coast of Alabama next week for a couple of months and I hope to get in lots of fishing. Thanks again

How much line do you have out for the bow and arrow cast?

same question here, like how much backing is out before the B&A cast?
