Hope y’all enjoy this little gem I found on my hard drive! Got an ULTRA BANGER coming up next 🎣😈
😈😈😈
You should go back to that secret spot you used the back salties at. And take Reggie.
Dat Van wants to 1v1 tennis 🎾
Fly fishing is frustrating, trout fishing is a lot more appealing when there is nothing else to catch. Can we get a hint about the "banger" of a video???? 👀
@1Rod1ReelFishing I know this sounds weird, but do you think I could catch a bass on a bobber alone (and a hook)? Maybe adding in some 'walk-the-dog' action?
Loved to hear that Skye learned fly fishing from an older gentleman from Nova Scotia!!! Made my day and love the fly fishing videos guys!!! Stayed Blessed!
I can guarantee if that dude was so happy to pass down his tricks and tips to the right person and now they’re being shared with tens thousands of people his tricks live on a for a few more generations
I still remember the day I went on YT and searched “how to cast a baitcaster” and stumbled upon your channel.
The best discovery huh. That happened with me as well
That’s how I found him too😂
Me too, 5 years ago or something like that
great minds think alike😁🐟
Lol I did the same
Using a tapered leader will definitely give you more pin-point accuracy. You can tie your own up with four or five pieces of gradually heavier trilene bloodlined together.
Fly fishing for wild trout is definitely my favourite. Using 6lb trilene for a leader isn't wrong necessarily, but tapered leaders have better turn over, distance, and accuracy for sure!
Really, that's more necessary for dries, though. I just use straight line for streamers all the time. It's when I need the delicate presentation that I turn to my tapered leaders.
@@mattphillippi5849 even running a nymphing rig it definitely helps with turnover and handling while false casting. Not that it can't be done with straight line, but I've done both and using a tapered leader helps a lot. When it comes to being delicate, use a lighter X leader, or mainly using more tippet to get a longer: 12-16' overall leader/tippet length. It's such a fun sport and you can make it as basic or as technical as you'd like haha
@Wug yeah It really depends on the application, and personal preference. But for the most part I'm almost 100% of the time using a tapered leader just in different size/X depending on if I'm fishing 2, 4, or 5wt. But I cut down a tapered leader a foot or two and then to a tippet ring to the tippet. It's been fantastic for dry, dry dropper, or just nymphing. I don't streamer fish much lol. Lately it's been a 5x tapered leader to 6x tippet to a small dry to 7x to a small nymph on my 2wt. It's got great turnover even with minimal line out in tight areas. It is always interesting to see other people's ideas, techniques, etc!
Cool, I prefer float fishing
As a long-time fly fisherman, who has fished around the world for some of the largest, wildest trout under extremely challenging conditions, I must say the best technique involves tying a 1/32 oz Panther Martin to a 4 lb leader, and using the fly rod as a spinning rod. I challenge to go head to head against any conventional fly rod angler any day, anytime, anywhere
One tip: when you are hooking a fish make sure that you don't pull from above your pointer finger, and you put the line under the pointer finger while hooking, to keep the line tight. Your casting is great, but one thing is that if you don't want to hook yourself is by raising your arm up a little bit, also when casting back, look back to make sure that it forms a loop and if you are not looking, make sure that you don't hear snapping, that means you're going to fast with you casting and you must slow down to not lose your fly.
"Do you feel more connected to the stream with a fly rod"
*hooks up*
"I FEEL CONNECTED"
Haha, that was. awesome 19:20
I've been fly fishing for about 10 years and I totally agree with your dude there. Don't get caught up in the gear junkie game in fly fishing when starting out. In fact my dream to to start a channel on how to get started fly fishing with the minimum bare essentials and starting techniques. This video is absolute pleasure. Thanks for trying out new things and letting us go along for the ride.
I would watch your channel I've always wanted to try fly fishing but have no idea how
Me and my dad have been dry fly fishing for 15+ years along the front range of northern Colorado and have caught some great fish to bat!! I caught my first master angler brown from a resevoir In Nederland last year on a size #14 blue wing olive 22 inch trout! Fly fishing is truly a blast and a great learning experience for many newcomers!! 😊💯🎣
man fishing with you would be awesome, but also with sky. you can just sense his passion when he talks about fishing. he was a great teacher for your first time 1rod!
No doubt! Very lucky to learn the art of fly fishing from my dude Skye! 🎣😎
Awesome 2 guys that love the sport, catch n release.
Something also good for beginners is just starting out with a roll cast.
What is that if you don’t mind me asking?
@@yousufhassan4254 a roll cast is a variation of fly casting that fishermen use when they have minimal room behind them to do a normal fly cast. You can check out Mad River Outfitters video on it. Give it a search!
For some reason I had a harder time roll casting than a normal fly cast when I first picked up a rod and tried to learn to cast
Absolutely that’s how I got into fly fishing
I love being out on a creek. Catching fish is just a reason to do it. Fly fishing takes brains and skill so I only do that. But the insane excitement guys get has fascinated me all my life.
I'm surprised and happy that the technique guys haven't been in here complaining. I'm just getting back into fly fishing and will be taking a trip in a couple weeks. This video has me excited. One piece of advice. When working the fly in the water, try wrapping the index finger of your rod hand under the line then strip with your free/reel hand from behind your rod hand instead of in front. This way you'll have fewer chances of losing control of the line. As far as casting, you're already better than me. I'm out here looking like I'm casting spells instead of flies.
Anyway, It's great to see you guys out in a stream and promoting conservation.
Passing it on!!!! This was a special moment bro! I'll never forget my first time casting a fly rod, now you definitely wont either! Especially after getting blitzed by 100's of trout on your first cast lol. What a day
Thats a beautiful palomino sir
Why do you say bolth? That’s always been a pet peeve of mine, it’s both, there’s no L lmfso
Grew up a bass angler because i had access to my family's farm pounds but when i moved out west i fell in love with fly fishing and barely use my conventional tackle anymore. Warmwater species are a lot of fun to fly fish for as well
As the premier fly fishing store of Wyoming, we're happy to see 1Rod pick up the incredibly addicting art of fly fishing! Let us know if you ever want to take a trip up to Wyo to catch some monstrous mountain trout!
Hello
Catching even a big bluegill on a fly rod is so fun, a decent bass is amazing.
Skye you are a natural teacher and guide. Your student seemed to pickup casting quickly. Good video guys
Thanks for this vid! The hook set and reeling in is hardly discussed on the beginner videos so this was exactly what I needed
That dude Sky seems chill.
Absolutely love the fact that you tried fly fishing I fish in Vermont for the past five years and love it!!!!!
Just when you thought the New Jersey send was over, 1rod mega hook sets every trout on the fly rod 🤙🏽
I never learned to fly fish. We used 202 zebco and rooster tails, salmon eggs , cheese balls and mill worms in Pa.
Dude! Your friend teaching you is so enthusiastic about fly fishing. I can’t help but like this guy!
-One Rod post a video of him fly fishing...
-Me, an avid fly fishermen : “It is time.”
(Lion king music playing in the background.)
Awesome, so cool see someone learning how to fly fishing!! Your friend taught you good lessons fly fishing!!! So cool seeing your excitement catching your first fish!!!! Great video 📹 👍🏻
You're doing awesome! Taught myself how to fly fish this year, and I wish I'd had Skye with me to speed up my learning curve!!
I live in Charleston, SC and we have no streams here to fly fish trout (checked DNR site). However, I have caught bass and it's a great feeling. Nice video!!
I’ve been waiting for this day
Same here bro
This vid was long overdue tbh 😅😅
lol I remember years ago I bought a nice combo fly set. I tried it once then put it away haha. It really is challenging.
Gotta commit to learning a new art! 👊
When you strip a streamer, point the rod tip toward the streamer, keep you rod down. that will impart better action to your fly. When you strip pointing the streamer, you will set the hook when you strip. No need to set hook and no lost on fish when it strike.
That’s actually a super helpful tip I’ve never heard this. Just getting started myself though
Personal experience from any years of trial and error. It works great in lakes.
Looks like it was filmed in spring. It’s so damn hot now.
And it says “date filmed: april 2021” at the start
Using a 3 wt for bass is so unbelievably fun it doesn’t matter if the fish is two pounds or a few ounces the fight is amazing
So awesome seeing you out there with a fellow New Jersian. Skye is an awesome dude and watching him teach you to fly fish was awesome. Mike your willingness to learn from others is something refreshing to see. Love what you are doing with the channel lately 👍
Mann flyfishing looks so complicated lol
It’s no more complex than spinning or casting gear.
It really isn't
Never thought id see you here😯 do you fish?
It's hard to become an expert, but not hard to become proficient, just like any other type of fishing
flyfishing is a blast....i love slammin big bass on a fly they hit like trucks.
Started fly fishing last year for trout. It is by far my favorite style. I still watch ya’lls videos though for the entertainment. Fly fishing is not easy and to me way more rewarding. I’m addicted and can’t wait to go wade in a river all day catching trout. Just me and nature.
I went fly fishing once and I put up my casting reel. I suck at it but I find it so relaxing, specially wading down creeks
@1Rod1ReelFishing come down to Miami this is my boy! The Skye Life is the most positive guy I have ever met. Me and him agree that life is about full sending it! I would love to put you on some swamp fishing my friend.
I already know this vid is gunna trigger all the pro fly fishermen 😂😂
No doubt 😂😂
Another tip is to watch your shadows like when yall were standing on the bridge your shadow possibly spooked the trout.
Brook (speckled) Trout fishing is the biggest sport fishing in Nova Scotia! Was really happy to hear my province mentioned 👍
Amazing video 😍 absolutely nuts for fly-fishing love to see more of these!!
Awesome stuff love seeing utubers who mix in fly fishing every once in a while. Wish I saw it more often. Coming from an avid fisherman who fishes w comventional/ baitcasting, spinning and fly rod... there's a time and place for each.
Totally agree, that a more accurate cast can made for a max of 75-80ft for me, Curving the line behind things, and faster follow up casts to the target are all strong points.
Greetings from Australia, great video guys natural presentation. Thinking about getting into fly fishing and this is how I think it would be first time.
No need to get too professional just enjoy 😎
Ayee!! I started to fly fish today too. I wasn’t looking to catch anything (because I was teaching my self) and it was super fun and totally different from spin fishing
Never clicked on a video so fast in my life, 1Rod is gonna go crazy with the fly rod!
Love it when 1rod says “lure”
Fly fishing for stocker trout can tend to give you some false bravado
True
yeah, the difference between stockers and picky wild trout is night and day. I had to break out the #23
For sure, but I mean, is there a better way to learn? It's a good way to learn what (generally) works, where they hold up etc.
@@gunadoo all trout are finkiy
Just discovered your channel mate, I've spent most of my life fly-fishing it's great to see someone excited to learn. Shout out from Australia
Top video guys, that was exactly the right way to get people into the sport Fun Friendly Basic and Action,,,,, Quality work, right there👌👍✅
i love you’re videos bro, something i look forward to everyday.
It is truly amazing when I catch a Trout on my own fly on wild trout. Great Video!
You don't need a tapered leader, when I first started i went straight to tippet. However using a tapered leader feels so much more different and it helps so much also it makes the difference in dry fly fishing. Also keep in mind skye didn't say this but when reeling in a fish you want to use the reel and just not stripping it in because your line will go all over the place, and If it was a big fish you would've lost it as your hand would be pinching the line instead of the reel working the drag system and letting the fish take line. One more thing is when I strip set I pull my rod up too and I tend to hook and land 99% of my fish very rarely do I lose a fish when fly fishing however that's me and maybe my luck
Happy to see you getting into something a little new mike
Your my fav fishing channel love the vids to there fire🔥🔥🔥
Nice, love those rainbow trout keep it up 1Rod 1Reel!
Dude you have to come to Washington State! Would be awesome to catch my first bass with a pro.
Thank you for this video. I just bought a fly rod and reel to try this year. Looks like a lot of fun.
Fly fishing is an art. Learn to feel the rod and let it whip the line out. It is an extension of your arm. Be patient and allow the line to make it back before you sling it out again or the line will buckle and turn into a knot- lol! You'll get the idea of it. Thank you for sharing- it seems you had a lot of fun!
I like that you tried fly fishing, but as someone that teaches beginning anglers, both conventional and fly, I was cringing a good bit with the explanations. I know the guy isn't a guide or a gear head, but there was just a lot lacking in this. Mike, if you want to fly fish for bass, I'd be happy to take you out on the Shenandoah and we could slay some smallies.
OKKkkk gi joe
Your totally just trying to get in a video with him. This guy did just fine teaching him how to fly fish. If you want to get in a video with him, just ask him. Don’t act like you will do so much better at teaching someone how to do a hard sport.
Cringe. Fishing is fun and he had fun and caught fish. Flyfish snobs are the worst.
whaaaaaaa????? Dude I literally just got my fly fishing setup and need to learn what to do. Great timing!!!!
I would love to see you go for bass on the fly rod! Nice video.
My favorite video yet. I’ve been learning fly fishing but have yet to catch my first one the fly rod.
Good kid
Love his style
Hope this exposure brings him his favorite gear
OG fans remember when Mike Fly fished for bonefish in the Bahamas, lol.
Thank ya'll for the insight, I'm regretting I sold my first fly rod two years ago,but I'm gonna get a new one and give it a try once more!
I love fly fishing. Hope you decide to do some more fly drops in the future. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 as always.
Fly fishing is my favorite way to catch trout and pike because the fight is so much more fun. When stripping line always have your hand pinching the line to the rod and loosen your grip when you want the line in or vice versa.
I fly fish with my dad and its soooo difficult to get the hang of but once you do its so much fun
Dude I'm just now thinking about whether I want to give fly fishing a try here in Florida & after this im definitely going for it. I like your buddy's vibe, keep making videos with him🤙
Wow love fly fishing thanks for the tips!
Thank you for this video, i have been watching alot of videos on fly fishing wondering why do they have line to the side, i get it now. I get my fly fishing kit Thursday.
Thanks for your quality videos
They are getting me through quarantine
As a new fly fisherman let me say this is low key the best Fly tutorial on YT haha!
By the looks of it IT'S HARD AND NOT SO HARD at the same time. Great job1R1R🎣x3!!
Man this 22minute video felt like 5 minute! loved every minute of it!
Mad respect! I could live eat and breathe flyfishing.
You should do a fly rod vs spinning rod challenge who can catch more fish or something
Man turns into hulk every time he gets a fish on lol, great vid man 👍🏻
3 mins in, this is a great video so far, good one guys
Fly fishing is some of the funnest fish you’re ever gunna catch you can fish for bass it’s really fun!
So much Fun, and a good teacher. Awesum.
Depends how finicky the fish are 4x tippet is great for trout sometimes I’ll even use 5x depending. But having a tapered leader is good if you are fishing with a strike indicator. It holds the indicator in place
So refreshing to see you shameless throw yourself at something new!
This was hilarious 😂
Great video man was so informative has definitely helped me learn to cast better
This guy never gets old
If you are going straight mono for a leader I'd be sure to make if a lot shorter, like 4 or 5 feet. Especially if you are throwing streamers.
normal people fly fishing: * silence* 1rod fly fishing: AUGHHHHHHH I GOT A BITE!
Orvis has some great videos on RUclips how to do different fly casting. Definitely worth checking out. Great entertaining video! Keep it up!
I’m laughing my ass off. Great video 😂 18:10
Sky is solid , good vid man thanks for posting
All you need is a clear bobber made to cast flies. Back when I fly fished I could get my entire line out of the spool and into the air and then switch hands back and forth.
Then I hooked someone behind me and stopped fly fishing very much. I only fish in a boat now and I have a one weight for bluegills.
Also if you have a basket in front of you on your belt you can let your line go in there rather than in the water to get tangled up.
Love to see the switch up in species! trout are really cool
I lived in Nevada for quite sometime and over there I bought my first fly rod thinking it was going to be pretty easy and simple but it is way more complicated than it seems
this is amazing yo !! love fly fishing im trying to learn it now with the casting and stuff
perfect time to refresh youtube 🤙
What a stream. A great encouraging video. Well done.
