Enjoyed your take on her....the background is as extraordinary as the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on RUclips.
Two weeks ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of RUclips 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation.
Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English and French. She has also sung in other languages including Spanish, German and Arabic.

Her mother beat her every day, and she never ate fruits and vegetables, only herring. Abandoned on the street with a broken collarbone. Her mother is an alcoholic, drug addict and prostitute, she had 12 abortions before being forced to keep Diana. Her father is unknown, a passing customer.
Joan Baez sings in 1960 french/english, but Elvis Presley adapted the melody and he changed the words "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" in the 1961 movie, Blue Hawaii.

Diana's birth mother was an unmarried alcoholic. Diana was the first of 12 children to survive past infancy. As a young child (age 3) she was abused and nearly drowned by her mother, then thrown out into the street in the winter with a broken arm. Her relatives didn't want her because they thought she was mentally damaged so she ended up in an orphanage. Fortunately, she was adopted by a lovely lady who worked there as a masseuse. She took singing lessons as a therapy for her speech problems. After suffering recurring nightmares about her birth mother returning, her adoptive mother moved her far away. She sang in the show, "You Are Super" for abused / underprivileged children, which she won two years in a row. She also won more than 50 other competitions. Her video performances together have more than 500 million views.

Hello, VQS Studio, this is really a singing contest. This production of Russian broadcasting company NTV consists of 9 separate shows on each Saturday. As a matter of fact the 9 "judges" are the participants of the contest - 9 professional singers. They are supposed to distribute points to each other from 2 to 9 points in the end of each show. The contestant cannot vote himself. In each program there is an invited guest, who can distribute his or her 9 points according to his will whether between the participants or all 9 points, for instance, to one singer. In the above show the invited guest was a professional opera singer - the gentleman with a beard who jumped up and was sitting next to Diana on upper row. After the 5th show Diana is leading with more or less 10 points. The singers can not choose the songs they are supposed to perform. The songs will be of different genres chosen by the producer of the show. Diana stated in an interview that there was only 3 songs of 9 that she liked.

Welcome to the extraordinary sound of Diana Ankudinova! To those that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn". This cover of the Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love" now belongs to Diana and demonstrates Diana Ankudinovas is a true contralto. Now a bit about female voice types, a contralto is the lowest female voice type and is very rare. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's also her timbre, the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
First, to answer a very common question for those that don’t know. Diana's vocal range, in 2017, her range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, about 4 years later, her functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5.
A lot of Diana’s ability has been attributed to her being born with unique vocal anatomy. Her vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx and vocal track similarly appear to be bigger and longer than almost all other female singers, which gives her the ability to produce such deep, rich sounds. To appreciate the vocal progression of Diana Ankudinova you need to listen to "Rechen'ka", which is a Russian folk song sung in Russian when Diana was only 14 years old during the 2018 Season of a vocal competition called "You Are Super!" Next listen to her cover of Chris Isaak's, "Wicked Game" during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of “You Are Super”.
Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which in itself is also an extraordinarily rare talent. What is a polyphonic singer? A polyphonic singer is defined as a singer who has mastered a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which adds harmonic overtones and undertones making it sound like two different voices at the same time. To have s singer as young as Diana master this technique is both impressive and extraordinary.
This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using auto-tune, a voice synthesizer, a vocoder or pitch correction software, or some other artificial form of electronic voice manipulation to alter or adjust her sound. Others think another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track. Aside from some minor vocal delay or added reverb, which are not considered manipulation, there is nothing vocally artificial of any kind going on at all. The music and vocals you hear are backing tracks used as just that, background. This is a very prestigious vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use the equipment provided for her use, as all other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her to bring in, let alone set up, calibrate and test any extra electronic vocal manipulating equipment. What you are hearing is all Diana Ankudinova.
Female singers usually don't reach full vocal maturity until they are somewhere around 24 to 28 years old; some reach it sooner, others, later. I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach her full vocal maturity. When she does she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage performance skills. When that day happens, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold on stage and a vocal force to be reckoned with.
Diana took part in the “ShowMaskGoOn on” vocal competition that featured her singing “Can’t Help Falling In Love” in September of 2021. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that compete against each other and also award judging points to each other. The judge on the top row that stands up first is the famous Russian opera singer, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. and the blond woman in the red dress stands and looks shocked at the end of Diana's performance then puts both hands on top of her head in what looks like total disbelief also knows she is listening to a once-in-a-generation talent. Finally, Diana won this competition.

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human.
First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich.
Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World.
Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below)
When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune.
And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

More seriously, the depth of emotion that Diana brings to this performance is beyond anything I have ever seen. The opening visual showing her reflection always makes me think of the sweep of human history and the suffering that love wrought on generation upon generation of women. No man has ever died giving birth to a child. She is unique. The only consolation I have writing this is that I'm sure no-one will ever read it.
Elvis: it's a usual male song; i'll sing it with an ease and a joy;
Old soul Diana: this love isn't going to bring a happiness; I'll sing it in a minor key; I'll omit all that bullshit about rivers falling into seas, but add all my passion and full 3 octaves.
