Asked my future wife over 30 years ago who her favourite singer was, she said Michael McDonald, I said but he’s mine too, marriage made in heaven and he’s still utterly brilliant!
I had to break 100 comments to say that never in a million years did I think that one of my absolute childhood favorites would be (beautifully) a song made way before I was born (1982) that is relevant to the world I am living in in 2020 as an adult woman with teenage children......... what’s really goin on........ Thank you Michael.
Coming up on the 46th anniversary of the first time my wife and I saw Michael in concert. It was a warm Sunday night April 21, 1974 at the U. of Toledo, where he was a backing vocalist and keyboard player for Steely Dan. While waiting in line outside the arena we could hear the band's soundcheck inside performing the title track from their latest album "Pretzel Logic." When they got to the line "Well I stepped up on the platform, and the man gave me the news" we heard a voice that we knew wasn't Donald Fagen. Two hours later when they played it again we could put a face with that unforgettable voice. Getting to hear that song twice in one night is still one of our favorite concert memories, and as this Marvin Gaye cover proves beyond any doubt his voice is still the very definition of blue-eyed soul.
@@jackelcalvo8916 Really lucky to have seen the original Steely Dan lineup as headliners in Toledo, because the night before in Columbus they were the opening act for The Beach Boys.
@@jackelcalvo8916 Jeff "Skunk" Baxter on lead guitar and pedal steel (plus congas on "Do It Again" and lead vocal on "My Old School"), Denny Dias on lead guitar, Walter Becker on bass and backing vocals, Donald Fagen on piano and lead vocals, both Jim Hodder and just turned 20 years old Jeff Porcaro on tandem drums, Michael McDonald on Fender Rhodes piano and backing vocals and 19 year-old Royce Jones on percussion and backing vocals (plus lead vocal on "Dirty Work" and "Any Major Dude"). No female backing vocalists or horn section on that tour, but still remarkably faithful to the studio recordings.
Michael, was able to see you in Mobile, Alabama, in concert twice. Love your music and that soulful voice of yours...thank you for providing us with many years of great music. You have made such a positive impact on people's lives through your music...keep on singing! Jim
First...who could cover this anthem with as much passion? Singing it like our lives depend on it. As it should be. I would love to hear Michael sing the great Robert Palmer song Every Kinda People. Another 70's gem. Thank you for the pandemic performances, and the spirit and humor that comes through.
I missed you so much brother! And thank you for "Tiny Desk." It was great! See you on Fallon tonight! Stay safe. We need you around. Love to Amy, Dylan & Scarlet!
Mike. Thank you for the gift of your art, your gift, throughout my life. You can not image how much it has meant to me my brother! Stay blessed! Beyond words.
OH MY MY MY, THIS is such an AMAZING version! Hearing you sing this never gets old, it's like hearing the song for the first time, EVERY time. Thank you Michael! ❤️
Michael, my husband and I, have attended sooo many of your concerts. Whether it was with the Doobie Brothers, Dukes of September; solo...you have never disappointed us! You are truly gifted. Then, there be times, listening to various songs, I'd hear a familiar voice singing back-up in numerous artist's songs...saying to myself.."that's Michael McDonald." Thank you, you're the Best...definitely, my favorite singer.
I have to be one of your greatest ever fans in Aussie. I've loved all your work for decades, my favourite is What A Fool Believes. I have your duets with various artists including James Ingram, Aretha, Patti, Christopher, Kenny etc & fantastic Mowtown cds & Dukes Of September & Sound Stage dvds. I would love you to release a duets cd with Daryl Hall (& visit Daryl's House), John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Mick Hucknell, Rebecca Ferguson, Adele & Rumer, just to name a few. Also greats who have left us like Aretha, Sarah, Dusty & Sam Cooke. I love that I can pick your voice out in Steely Dan songs, Doobie Brothers, Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins & other back up tracks. My dream would have been to see you in concert.
He is touring the US next year, 2021 (postponed from this year due to COVID) with the Doobie Brothers. Make plans to come up the US and go to one of the shows!
This should be the anthem for what we're going through right now. Mother Earth is at rest with her children not at play, we need to comprehend that this right here was long overdue. Reflect, embrace and rejoice for this is an awakening to what we should value most. It's not about the self . Look beyond the negative and restore the positive in our lives to continue the journey . There's still so much to do and we can only accomplish it together. Be safe, be well.
