Just came from Rick Beato 2 and his discussion of "Takin' It to the Streets" with Michael. This version reminds me of what I heard in concert a few years ago. Doobie's - You are amazing and bring so much joy to so many.
It starts out slow, like an old-time gospel tune....as though these guys, all in their '70s, need time to warm up, flexing their fingers on the keyboards, guitars and saxaphone. Just when you're about to move on to something more familiar, the song breaks wide open and you can feel your soul being lifted up by that opening keyboard riff that you've heard all of your life, only now you FEEL it and you can't help but say "YEAH!". That's the power of a great song, great musicians and one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Age is nothing but a number when you've got soul.
The hair on the back of my neck just stiffened! I have tickets to see them at The Forum in LA on October 9th! It will be about the 6th or 7th time I seen them, but probably the first with Michael McDonald. This video just made me choke up, and I can’t wait!
True......as opposed to a zillion background dancers, lip syncing, and auto tune......a.k.a. ...all the garbage thats out there today poisoning our youth.....they wouldnt know good music if it bit them in the ass
@@antoniodorso Exactly! It's all fake. Playing an instrument is a very dynamic interaction. It will never sound exactly the same way twice. That's half of why I went to concerts. I loved hearing a longer version or something other than the record on my stereo. It's memorable and personal because it's a one off. No way it will sound like that ever again. The good ol' days.
You didn't notice that none of the guitars are plugged in and Michael doesn't have a mic? Or that the second keyboard video track is out of sync with the audio? They are real musicians and they're very good at what they do, but nobody is playing live in this video.
@@scottlindstrom6743 Yeah, I did but people who can actually read music, play, sing and perform deserve big kudos simply for their musical education, self taught or not. That education and practice is how they perfected their talents and I respect that. I don't respect clowns behind keyboards or big music productions that are all fluff and the exact same sound you would have gotten if you stayed home and saved $200. Now I'm outta breathe. 😳
The point wasn’t whether they are all playing live at the same time (and it’s not true that none of them is playing their instruments), it’s that they are playing instruments and not synthesizers. Clearly McDonald is playing the piano, for one. And the guitar cords come and go. They are green screened so it’s possible the cords are wiped for some.
Just saw them perform a couple of days ago at the Zappos theater at planet Hollywood in Vegas and they were terrific. Michael McDonald sounded awesome as well as the rest of the band. What a national treasure they are. Todays music cannot match up to what this band can do and sound. Real music people, love it!!!!!
45 years ago, their's was the first live concert by a big-name band from my youth I had ever seen. It was an OUTSTANDING show and they band was so kind to the crowd at the Saginaw Civic Center (Saginaw, MI) in playing way more encores than they usually did. They've been a forever favorite and part of the sound-track of my life ever since!
Whenever Listen to the Music comes on, I have to stop everything to listen. It is one of the best Doobie Brother songs ever. Just like Taking it to the Streets and China Grove.
I was a skinny 17 year old black girl in the summer of 1980. I had just graduated from high school and some friends took me to see the Doobies at Pine Knob in Michigan. Easily one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. As a skinny 17 year old black girl and 44 years later I still LOVE THE DOOBIE BROTHERS❤
Why I'm after all those years (about 50) still a big fan of you guys? It's the musicality, the positivity and the message of love and hope that you have been sending to the world for many years now. Thanks so much for that! By the way, loved your concert at Utrecht in 2017!. Alexander, from The Netherlands
I attended the concert on May 18, 2022, in Las Vegas. It was in a word: MAGNIFICENT! I loved every minute - by minute - by minute of their fantastic performance. Because of this spectacular show, I actually purchased tickets for the concert on October 2, 2022. Floor seats will be waiting for me this time!!!!!!
You can never ever duplicate the Doobie Brothers and the voice of Michael McDonald. The song he did with James Ingram is another timeless song as well.
Super cool. That live quarantine stuff they did last year was incredible. I'd love to see them live. It's like they have a renewed sense of purpose as a band.
Yeah, i think that new purpose is due to the rise of so much dissension, drama, pain and hatred just floating around free seemingly everywhere. I think rather than all of that, they would rather everyone be dancing, singing, smoking some grass, and creating as much love as we can. And it isn’t about that ineffective hippie attitude, but rather one of simplicity over chaos, of all of us just stopping to consider that other people are living around us, and that they all want the same things we want. To be happy, free, to be loved, and to do whatever our work calls us to do.
Just simply fantastic! Whether the Doobies are with Michael McD or without him, they are just a sensational band. A true Doobies fan will love the music with Michael just as much as the music before and after.
I absolutely LOVE the fact that Doobies ARE Tom, Patrick, Michael, the Johns, Marc and everyone else...there is no more debate on who are "the real Doobie Brothers"....THIS is the Doobs, plain and simple. Bring it, man...this is American music...no hole barred. When historians and anthropologists dig up our civilization in 1000 years, they will declare the Doobie Brothers to be the harbinger of our culture.
The Doobie Brothers' music is the epitome of "feel good" "positive vibes" "friendship" and "celebration of music". Very rarely do I hear them talk about dark and gloomy things in their music.
Back to the 70s, the golden era of music: Michael McDonald with the Doobies again, adding Bill Payne (Little Feat) and Marc Russo (one of the best sax players in the world). And this song is the best ever written by M.McD. Superb! Greetings from a fan in Portugal.
@@LucasVigor It's him alright. Although at the beginning Marc Russo was more connected to smooth jazz (Yellowjackets and others), he's been playing regularly with the Doobie Brothers for nearly 20 years. He's a superb sax player!
