One of the most surprising concerts I ever attended was the Doobie Brothers. I knew and enjoyed their music…but didn’t consider myself a fan and didn’t own their records. I didn’t need to…they were on every radio station 24/7. With low expectations, I went with my friends to see their show. We somehow managed to grab 12th row seats. And I was captivated. Hearing their entire body of work done live was quite impressive. Seeing them perform live was a joyous experience. Thank you for the walk down memory lane. We have all aged…but we grew up with the best rock music ever made. I feel sorry for anyone under 60 who missed this musical era. Ya had to be there!
So true. The crap they call music today is meaningless to me. I’m still into my Doobies, CSN&Y, The Grateful Dead, and the the folk stars like Joni Michell. Ah, now that’s music.
I feel for them as well. I remember seeing ZZ Top and Aerosmith during their stadium tour in 1976. I saw Rush (and actually met), Kansas, Roy Buchanan and many others in a tiny college auditorium. It was a GREAT era for live music...
i came a little later at the party, being fifty years old i grew up with Michael Mcdonald in the 80's, but the Doobie Brothers were soon discovered... much love from Italy to one of the greatest band ever!
I’m so greatful for inheriting a bunch of vintage vinyls and discover these talents at an age in my life where I’ve realized music in this day and age doesn’t compare. Obviously I can pull out iTunes and play whatever but it’s cool to have something you can hold and look at in your hands. If only I could’ve been there

When I was a kid we were traveling home from my granny’s house and I heard China Grove on the radio for the first time. I was so excited with that music, I just had to have the record.problem is I missed the name of the song and band. This was almost 50 years ago and I still remember it, that is the impact it had on me. Took me awhile, but I tracked down the name of the song. The best of the Doobies is still my favorite record, every track a gem. I hope these guys know how much joy and excitement their life’s work has brought to so many, even a kid in a small town in Minnesota, 50 years and running. My only issue with them is in the interviews their lack of acknowledgment of the Brothers of the past and those that have passed. Baxter, Bumpus, Knutson, Porter etc. made huge contributions. Guess they think it best to keep it light and in here and now.

That is so awesome, I never thought they would get back together again with Michale Mcdonald. I was 12yrs old when i bought my first Dobbie Brothers - Minute by Minute 8-track tape from Columbia House. You guys still sound great, thanks for getting back together again.
My first concert in the mid 70's at HIC in Honolulu. Going to see them at the LA forum this weekend. Cant Wait. Another Park Another Sunday is our favorite.
Michael McDonald is phenomenal! He added a whole new dimension to their band. I can't imagine that they've released an album without him. I saw them in college in 1977 and I've been a huge fan ever since.
When I watch this segment, I get teary eyed and am in awe at how brilliant and humble these guys are. I know they understand how seminal they have been and still are to millions of listeners ranging from those that got to see them in their early years to those who are the grandchildren of the first fans. Sure, there are many iconic groups still out there playing but few can compare to the overwhelming musical talent and strength of personality that the “core four” possess. It’s like hanging out with your cousins on Thanksgiving Day and throwing a football in the street. One feels “at home” with the Doobie Brothers. They radiate goodness throughout and have that folksy, Smokey Americana slant to them. It’s comfort food to me in a world fraught with division. They unify and lift the spirit to a place where few others have lead and the world is blessed to have had and still have them.
Absolutely beautiful....they are MY BAND. They have been very much a part of me and who I've become. Smoke em' if you got em' Roll em' if ya don't!!!! Rock on My BROTHERS ..ROCK ON 🎸 🤘
I was fortunate enough to attend The Doobie Brothers 50th anniversary concert at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, BEST concert I’ve been to in a long time, thank you guys for 50 years of memories and great music.
Yay baby! People still want to hear it! I grew up on listening to The Doobies and at age 70, still do. I love Michael McDonnell and the music he wrote. So sad when he left the group & love having him back one again. Rock on guys!🥰🥰🥰🥰
Their success and longevity is their ability to branch out, explore new sounds and styles especially with Michael. Skunk Baxter had a lot to do with their Grammy for Minute by Minute. If it was up to Tommy, they would be a straight ahead Rock and Roll band. All the while you have Patrick just moving forward learning new music and being the one constant since the beginning. They have struck a great balance, hope they just keep on making it work.
@@wasteofspace69420 as a bassist myself I have always appreciated Tiran’s work. Best of the Doobies was the first record I bought that wasn’t out of the bargain bin and an unknown band. I listened to Best of a thousand times. It is still one of my favorite records. I’m going to put it on now.
These guys are still going strong after all these years. They have stood the test of time and made it that's for sure. Which proves that their music is as relevant now as it was when I was a kid back in the 70's.
Michael diversified their repitoire and gave the group a unique richness that nobody else can quite match. I love both periods because it is still great music, just different...you get two bands for the price of one and never a dull moment!
It's true they have a different sound and different vibe with and without Michael McDonald. Pre-Michael they were more rockish and with Michael they are more soulish. Either one sounds fantastic and you'd be a fool to just choose one version of the Doobies to side with. BTW, It Keeps You Running is my fave Doobies' song and probably one of their most underrated.
The early days of Yacht Rock- now, if these guys, with Michael McDonald, joined Fleetwood Mac on stage for a joint nationally-televised concert with both Christopher Cross and Kenny Loggins as guests, that would be a major plus. I can also see Nicolette Larson's daughter, Elsie May make an appearance as well!!!
I had the good fortune of working with them twice. They are simply he nicest guys you could meet. And they are one of the rare bands that has a "sound." The sound, their harmonies, rhythms...unique to just them. Keep on going down the highway!
I'm just glad you guys FINALLY pulled your heads out, and realized you were still as loved as artists as you were back then. You play a HUGE part of my life's musical library. Glad to have you back.
I've lived by a line from "The Doctor" since the first time I heard. "Music is the doctor of my soul." It always had been; I just didn't realize it. However, it's been my mantra ever since.
Many a happy hour during my college years in the first half of the 70's were backed by The Doobie Brothers being played pretty loud in the background. My college buddies, the gals who ran around with us - we all loved their music. It quite simply just made us feel good. People don't forget the times in their lives like that, and I'm sure that, in part, that's the reason for their success still today. Whether at a big house party or 'rockin' down the highway', The Doobie Brothers were the sound track to my youth.
I only started noticing the Doobie Bothers when they were on “Whats Happening”!, ever since I’ve been hooked. Blue Eyed Soul Mike is a Legend, His Voice is GolDEN!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😘🥰🥰
I still get goosebumps during many of their songs, mostly the ones with Michael McDonald. They are all great, and it is super great that they are still rocking. Love 'em!
Love the the Doobie Brothers. They sound exactly as they did when I first heard them as a junior in high school. What a great memory. Wish I could go back. Great band.
My second concert in 1978. I’ve seen them at least 10 times or more. Meet and Greets x 3 and autographed tickets! Such a tight band and so nice in person!!!!! My favorite all time favorite song is South City Midnight Lady!!!!! Pat Simmons …… so soft spoken. John McFee,,, so nice and allows cheek kisses, ( all of them do!) Tom Johnston, totally sweet and Another Park Another Sunday is autographed on my ticket stub, Billy Payne on keys is so nice and John on bass is incredible! We try and do the meet and greet when we can. I often wonder if they wear their University of South Carolina t shirts I bought them 7 years ago! Lots of respect for these guys! Congratulations on the RRHOF induction and can’t wait to catch this show!!!!
I lived across the street and one house over when the band was rehearsing - and living (all of them) - in an old house's basement studio before they hit the big time - I heard all their early hits over and over for about a year before they recorded them. Saw them at their home base club in the Santa Cruz hills - the Chateau Liberte - until the crowds got crazy huge. They were cool guys then - and cool guys now...

Out of all the San Jose bands and Bay Area bands which is numerous I like the Hells Angels loved these guys the best. Growing up here I didn’t even know they were from here until I was in my teens. When Michael came on it took me a while to get used to that. But after seeing them many times with both Johnson and McDonald they are amazing live.
I'm not a Doobie Brothers fan. But I saw them open for The Eagles. They were right and tight in the way that only real talents who have played millions of times. They are great!
I have had the great fortune to listen to the Doobies since they became the Doobies. A huge fan their music is iconic and every song for me just flows. I believe they provide one of the best band group harmonies and singing ever which is why they are in the in 2004, Vocal group Hall of Fame and were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame on November 7, 2020. 40 million albums worldwide! I had the pleasure of seeing them live at the Warner Theater in Torrington, CT. During the performance there was a problem with the lighting and when they stopped to fix it I walked down the aisle to the stage and shook my favorite Doobie Brothers hand Tom Johnston. Told him to never stop playing - he smiled and said hope not. Love his voice love the group. Fav song Long Train Runnin’.

The Doobies will be up here in Minnesota in September. Can’t wait to see them.
@@mplsmark222Don’t forget Tiran with those killer bass lines
@@wasteofspace69420 as a bassist myself I have always appreciated Tiran’s work. Best of the Doobies was the first record I bought that wasn’t out of the bargain bin and an unknown band.
I listened to Best of a thousand times. It is still one of my favorite records. I’m going to put it on now.
Seen them in concert several times over the years and they ALWAYS put on a great show!!!
They are fantastic in concert. Great musicianship
Doobie Brothers FOREVER!
These guys are still going strong after all these years. They have stood the test of time and made it that's for sure. Which proves that their music is as relevant now as it was when I was a kid back in the 70's.
Ah, now you're talkin' -- music from my generation. Real music :)
Love Michael McDonald!! Once I heard his voice, I became a fan, esp what a fool believes
@Michael McDonald thank you for all your greatness
@Michael McDonald not yet, but I'm hopeful lol
Michael diversified their repitoire and gave the group a unique richness that nobody else can quite match. I love both periods because it is still great music, just different...you get two bands for the price of one and never a dull moment!
It's true they have a different sound and different vibe with and without Michael McDonald. Pre-Michael they were more rockish and with Michael they are more soulish. Either one sounds fantastic and you'd be a fool to just choose one version of the Doobies to side with. BTW, It Keeps You Running is my fave Doobies' song and probably one of their most underrated.
Nah...Little Darling is the most underrated lol.
Nothin' But a Heartache
The early days of Yacht Rock- now, if these guys, with Michael McDonald, joined Fleetwood Mac on stage for a joint nationally-televised concert with both Christopher Cross and Kenny Loggins as guests, that would be a major plus. I can also see Nicolette Larson's daughter, Elsie May make an appearance as well!!!
It’s true that have some
Very different sound with and without Michael.... and I'm loving it.
Another Awesome musical group , i grew up with . Still jammin to the Doobies , i'm 62
You were always, and still are one of my favorite groups!
What a TREAT to see them again! I am still
in love 🥰 with Michael MacDonald!!!!!💋♥️
One of my all time favorite bands. They still sound great.
Saw them last week in Denver. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. They were fantastic!
I had the good fortune of working with them twice. They are simply he nicest guys you could meet. And they are one of the rare bands that has a "sound." The sound, their harmonies, rhythms...unique to just them. Keep on going down the highway!
Or Rocking Down the Highway, lol
Nobody can ever forget about you and the sound that makes you. Don't want to without that.
I'm just glad you guys FINALLY pulled your heads out, and realized you were still as loved as artists as you were back then. You play a HUGE part of my life's musical library. Glad to have you back.
I can still remember that first .45 spinning on that old suitcase turn table. Thanks guys , you brought the magic into my life..
I've lived by a line from "The Doctor" since the first time I heard. "Music is the doctor of my soul." It always had been; I just didn't realize it. However, it's been my mantra ever since.
Thank you fellas
My very first concert. Heard them at Hulman Civic Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. My Dad took me, in 1975. It was wondrous.
One of the best American bands EVER ...love form Italy!!!
Manny a papa house during my colllegoes you in fa
It's been fun growing up with the Doobie Brothers...
I agree 100%
I only started noticing the Doobie Bothers when they were on “Whats Happening”!, ever since I’ve been hooked. Blue Eyed Soul Mike is a Legend, His Voice is GolDEN!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😘🥰🥰
Al Dunbar!!
Oh my gosh... I totally remember that episode!!
I still get goosebumps during many of their songs, mostly the ones with Michael McDonald. They are all great, and it is super great that they are still rocking. Love 'em!
Right... the Michael songs woo me every time. His voice is so velvety
Love the the Doobie Brothers. They sound exactly as they did when I first heard them as a junior in high school. What a great memory. Wish I could go back. Great band.
1976 ish Balboa Stadium with CCWR and a streaker. Recently Spreckles theatre. Love this band. 🙏💪🌎🌏🌍❤️🇺🇸🖖
Thank you for lending your song "Listen to the Music" to Playing For Change.
The have been one of my favorite bands since the 70s. I'm really happy for them!
Fond memory of lazing in my leanto at Boy Scout camp while 'Black Water' was blasting on someone's tinny Panasonic transistor radio.
John McFee,,, so nice and allows cheek kisses, ( all of them do!) Tom Johnston, totally sweet and Another Park Another Sunday is autographed on my ticket stub,
Billy Payne on keys is so nice and John on bass is incredible!
We try and do the meet and greet when we can. I often wonder if they wear their University of South Carolina t shirts I bought them 7 years ago! Lots of respect for these guys! Congratulations on the RRHOF induction and can’t wait to catch this show!!!!
Hello 👋
I lived across the street and one house over when the band was rehearsing - and living (all of them) - in an old house's basement studio before they hit the big time - I heard all their early hits over and over for about a year before they recorded them. Saw them at their home base club in the Santa Cruz hills - the Chateau Liberte - until the crowds got crazy huge. They were cool guys then - and cool guys now...
The Doobies are definitely the pride and joy of San Jose, California
Wow! You must have been livin right to be so fortunate!🤗
@@chuckloganair463 - Those years live on in a special garden of my memories - to be young, free of responsibilities, and optimistic of the future. Whoever could bottle that would make billions...
What a Great romantic and spiritual shift, Micheal caused, so thankful for it!
Michael is a rare soul. When I was 12 anything he sang ripped goosebumps down my neck.
Many years later I'm still feeling his music.
These songs bring back so many memories. Great road trip music
Sound track of my youth... Love this Band!!
That music, that band! Still AMAZING! Still MAGICAL!
I'll see you again next week in indy! Glad you are all healthy and still going strong!
