    I'm a 77 year old. I've so far installed 500 sq ft of this in Applewood. Piece of cake. You've turned a molehill into a mountain.
    Whacking the edge of the boards with a hammer? Is that a metal hammer instead of a mallet? That's terrible practice. Use a piece of scrap as a tapping block. This is basic practice.
    You don't test for waterproof by soaking the boards in water, although I've done that just for fun. You lock the flooring together and put a puddle of water on the seam to see if it will soak in. The tests I did kept the water out of the seam over a two day period. That's as waterproof as most people need. You can waterproof the entire room by following their directions for caulking around the perimeter (which you did cover). We did that in key places. So far we've had no issues with dog accidents and human accidents.
    As for the bad reviews, how many are due to DIYers not knowing what they're doing? I suggest most of them. For the price I don't think any other product comes close to the performance of Outlast+.

    My wife and I installed this in Molasses Maple throughout our 1,600 sqft house. We did it alone. 3 1/2 pallets of the product and only one box was damaged. We had zero issues laying it down or putting it together. We have two dogs and one has accidents in the middle of the night once in awhile and we don't see it until the next morning. ZERO issues around the seams. We recommend this highly to friends and family. Also, you really shouldn't be hitting the sides of the planks with a hammer alone.

      I was mortified when I saw that it was being hammered directly on the tounge. If I walked in on a professional installer I'm paying doing this he'd be fired on the spot.

    Tim, just wanted to say thanks again for help with the Lifeproof product. Install went well and easy product to install. I am now finishing a job of Pergo Outlast a small area in the foyer above the front door 3'X8'. Fortunately there was enough flooring left over from the original install to cover the area, I forgot to ask for the installation company to add to the original job. My question is should I treat the first few rows like I did the vinyl product, cut 2" off the first board, than like 15" off the second and have a third row piece at 12"? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thought I'd provide a real-world update on this three-year old video. I just installed 600 sf of Pergo Outlast+ Paradise Jatoba in our house. Assembly of the planks is, in fact, fairly finicky - far more so than the original Pergo we installed 17 years ago. There is a "rhythm" and "mode" to setting the planks that only experience teaches but does make you go much faster. Tight joints are hard, and assembling the first two rows in a narrow hall is *very* challenging. Be sure to get a tapping block and/or a rubber mallet until you learn the installation mechanics. I finally installed our last room without using the block once. As for product quality, out of 42 boxes, we had exactly *one* defective/unusable plank. As for excess, I allocated for 5% waste and ordered 46 boxes, and returned exactly four.
    Putting silicone sealant is the unstated nuisance of installing this flooring. No matter how careful you may be, that sealant gets *everywhere* and is very difficult to remove from the floor and from your hands. Wear gloves.
    Its hard to overstate the importance of learning how to lock these planks together. The tail end must be fit snugly, rotated down, then the opposite end edge-tailed into the prior row joint before being rotated and/or tapped into place. Once you find out how to hold and install the board, you do go *much* more quickly. I didn't truly catch the knack of installation until about halfway through.
    All said and done, however, we *love* the look and feel of the floor. It was a tiring but satisfying project, taking much longer than we expected, but provides a very pleasing result.

    Hi! Did you install seamlessly between rooms? We are about 10 rows in on our Pergo floors and things are going good for us. My only concern is some of the joints are perfectly smooth. Others are all the way together but it one side is the tiniest bit raised, way less than a millimeter. Is this normal? Thanks

    Who's got a decent affordable laminate that I can install easy? I've used some of the "off-the-shelf" stuff from home depot (can't remember the name) and it was the old style locking system and it was a PITA. I see you mention "drop lock" and that sounds interesting, is there anything in the ~1.50-2.50$ per sq/ft range? I was looking at Pergo "Honeysuckle Oak" but I see some people complaining about Pergo these days. Recommendations?

    • @JonesKnows
      @JonesKnows  4 года назад +1

      No I haven’t. Honestly, I’d never heard of it before now. I looked it up and it seems like a pretty good product. It’s an eCommerce company not sold in any mainstream stores so that’s why I haven’t had any customers buy it, since we have a lot of selection available in my local area. It sounds like a good product, but having not seen it in person I can’t say for sure. It is a $1.00 more than the Big Box stores LVPs and it’s 6’ planks instead of 4’ which could be annoying to install for some people especially in doorways and tight spaces also I’d be interested to see if it has a drop in end lock (much easier to install!) or a 4 sided locking system. (Older style & harder to install) If you decide to go with it let me know what you think I’d love to hear what you think of it! Thanks!

    I have pets and accidents happen. I think I have decided on a vinyl plank flooring. Out of ALL the brands, if you had to chose one that you feel is the best, what brand would it be?

    • @JonesKnows
      @JonesKnows  4 года назад +4

      Yes, you definitely want vinyl, because its almost indestructible when it comes to pets and accidents. I really like Lifeproof and Nucore. I think Nucore installs a little tiny bit easier but I think Lifeproof has some really nice colors. Its really a toss up as far a quality. If I had no choice but to pick one I guess Lifeproof is slightly better. I've installed tons of different brands over the years, from really expensive ones to the cheaper ones and I haven't seen any vinyl floors that are much better then these 2 floors. Some of the more expensive vinyl claim to have thicker wear layers or some kind of impenetrable finish but at the end of the day they all can be scratched if you press hard enough. Have seen any of my vinyl review videos where I put these products head to head ?

    I will be installing Pergo Outlast Auburn Scraped Oak Laminate floor with padding already attached to the plank. This will be installed on concrete radiant heated floors in my living, dining, kitchen and bedroom. Do I need to install a water vapor underpayment? I have bought SentinelProtect Plus (blue thin foam) from floor and decor. Can I use that as my underpayment or is that overkill with the foam padding attached to the planks. Will this also cause the floor to separate as there would be extra padding?
    Thank you! Love the videos! Keep them coming!

    I’m installing this stuff right now and it’s a nightmare. I’ve only installed 100 sq ft worth and I’ve already had to discard 3 boxes from the laminate chipping or locking mechanisms breaking. It’s been such a frustrating experience. I dropped my crow bar on the flooring and it put a massive hole on one of the planks as well. I’m now pretty freaked out about dropping anything on the floor without it creating a massive hole in the laminate … I’m not a professional tho, this is my first flooring job. But I have been pretty unhappy with this stuff.

  • @wneise1
    @wneise1 Год назад +1

    1) People will want to 4 side locking. If the ends don't lock, short boards at the wall will slide leaving a gaps between board ends. 2) The soak test is irrelevant. The water resistance is a show of surface spills, not the entire thickness of the floor absorbing water for days on end. The later would represent a flooding of the house in which any flooring system, possibly including tile, would need to be fully replaced.

    The floor is not meant to be floating in a pool of water. It is not waterproof to that extent. You have to install it correctly and silicone around the edges in order to prevent moisture from going underneath. If you leave a gap in the boards water can get down and cause damage. If you want truly waterproof flooring you have to go with vinyl

    Just stopped by to look at my brand new Outlast+ installation in Applewood. About 1000 sq ft - the cleaning crew came in to clean up remaining construction dust and clean the Pergo and tile we put into the house. Water expansion dimples all over the place from there the mop water (not a soaking of water, just wet mops to pull up dust). At least 35% of the planks have some form of water expansion at the joint lines.
    This stuff is NOT waterproof as advertised and it’s crap. Now I have to replace the whole floor
