I actually picked up a lightly used 5D4 as an upgrade from my M50m2 last month and I'm over the moon about it. It's so much camera, built like a tank, takes amazing photos, battery life rocks, and best of all it was affordable to a hobbyist like me. I'm also not complaining that the price of L glass keeps dropping!
Pierre, like the ride! I started with a Nikon F3 in 1980 and have stayed Nikon since except for a short Canon run in the 90's (F3 was stolen). After being out of it for the last 5-6 years, I decided to get back into it and went with the Nikon Z6ii mirrorless. I love it! The decision was based on knowledge and experience with Nikon, the lighter weight (getting older) and still getting FF, the reputation of the new Z lenses as excellent (especially the S line), and the price of $1900 for the body was right in my range. I use mostly for photos. My friend who has same camera is the opposite and loves it for all his video and says the firmware upgrade with focus tracking is incredible. There you go!
I own Nikon, Sony and Fuji. And surprisingly enough recently I've been taking out a D3S most of the time. Just a workhorse body. It's enjoyable. For all the travel stuff I use a Fuji X-T2. Sure never gear is out ,but this really isn't letting me down. So no need to replace it. I totally second the idea of buying higher end gear others are dumping. You can score incredible bargains and these days, being a gen or 2 behind really isn't much of a limitation at all.
@@King-zo4vv I enjoy shooting with it and the photos I get are super crisp with the sigma 16mm. You can't go wrong with either body, just make sure you get good lenses!

As far as getting a used camera, for me it depends my budget. The a6400 is a great and affordable option even new, but if I wanted to go full frame first I probably would have been looking for something used.
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV, but I still use my lower rebel models for more extreme conditions or for small projects sometimes. I use my xTi (yes really old) for some timelapse projects.
I used Nikon cameras for 30 years. Switched to Sony in 2017 when I was in NZ shooting in low light and my Nikon D800 couldn't focus. Trey Ratcliff showed me what he was seeing with his Sony and I was blown away. I am also moving away from f/2.8 lenses to more f/4 gear to reduce the weight in my bag. Recent ISO improvements helped to make that an easy decision.
I started on Nikon. Still love their color science the most. When mirrorless started getting more popular and it became clear it was the future I held out for as long as I could. Nikon just wasn't really getting into the mirrorless game in a wholehearted way. So I switched to Sony. I really considered Canon but Sony just seemed a little more comfortable to me. Honestly had Nikon released the Z9 3 years earlier, I'd probably still be shooting Nikon. I don't think you really go wrong with one of the big 3 over another now.
Great video guys, some good points made. In a world where technology is constantly changing its good to know you don't always need to buy the latest and greatest in order to take excellent images! Keep up the good work Pierre and Alex 🙂📸
I'm an enthusiastic that loves taking pics of my kids. Had a 6D, loved full frame. But focus system is not great. Missed so many shots bc it missed eye focus. Have the R6 now. Using an adaptor for my sigma 35mm. Have the Samyang 85mm RF. Easily my fav lens. The bokeh is amazing. Focus is great.
I moved from Fuji to Canon 6D ii. I really love it, that makes me know how are APSC and FULL FRAME different. But sometimes I still think about Fuji because of Canon Weight .
I'm semi-pro and I shoot with a Fujifilm X-S10. I have the 23, 35, 56, and 84mm primes plus the 16-55 kit zoom, the new 70-300, the 100-400, and some assorted macro lenses.
My very first camera was nikon coolpix b500, it got me in to photography. my second camera is, (i still use it to this day) is a canon 90d i'm happy with it, great beginner camera with awesome features
My 1st camera was Sony H2 super zoomer. The switches were located pretty much at same places as in Sony DSLRs so it was obvious choice to go with Sony A300. After couple years I upgraded to A77ii. Nice small feature is that I can use my Sony mobile as a remote controller.
Speaking as an amateur photographer and not as a professional I am very happy with my Panasonic G9. The mft system is not as terrible as many people say and for those who have no business needs it is a good compromise between quality and price.
Shoot with Sony alpha 6000 , asp-c but doesn’t have the limitations you might think, great camera for manual photography and very portable. I shoot canon as my back up camera, for my a6000 I use a 100-600 tele zoom, a 16mm prime and 55-210 wide angle
Been shooting with Canon my entire time with photography. Currently running a 5DMkIII. Haven't been impressed with Canon's mirrorless line up, especially the lenses and how freaking huge they are, so when I can afford I'll be switching to Sony.
I had loads of Canon gear a few years back. And one day I decided I'd had enough and swithced - great decision! I've got the A9 and with the 70-200 GM it's an awesome combo which I LOVE using!
I've been shooting on a T5i for years until my wife got me a present. She got me my dream camera which is the Sony A7 IV. My style and photography game in general changed way beyond what I could've imagined
I started around 12 years ago on Canon 550D with only one lens 24-105. The whole intention was to capture memories from to-be family trips. It quickly became a serious interest, especially for travel and that brought me to Sony A7RII about 3 years later and eventually the current Sony A7RIII for some of the necessaries such as much improved battery life. I expanded on my lens but don’t think I be looking to upgrade on the body anytime soon as the one in my possession now suits my needs for the way I shoot.
I started off shooting Canon but I felt really limited by the lens options for Canons RF mount. Yes, you can adapt EF lenses but I felt that still got away from what I wanted. Because of that I bought the Sony A7iii which has incredible dynamic range, performs incredibly at high ISOs and in low light and has an abundance of third party lens options (Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is my go to).
I love shooting with my canon R6 (2nd hand) It’s great and smart to get pro gears when people are dumping their gears. My R6 still looks brand new and I really enjoy shooting with it!!
Sony A7iii after being stuck on Nikon for years I needed something that was good for video and all the recommendations pointed to Sony. That’s actually how I came across your channel!
I had a budget of 2000 Euro for a camera and I chose the Panasonic Lumix S5. It is the best solution for my needs and budget. It obviously great for video but very good for photos and it is Full Frame. In addition the lenses are not super expensive. One major drawback is that the Auto Focus is not Sony and Canon level but it is OK for my specific needs. It is whether sealed but not 100% but I will not shoot in the dessert or the rainforest or the ice caps. My advice is define your needs (not wants, needs), look at different reviews, think 5 years in the future and look at the lense prices. If you can wait a bit, wait for sales. And as Pierre said, try to max you camera and upgrade if you have a NEED or you will EARN MORE MONEY with the more expensive camera.
Bought a Nikon d610 2014. Bought a Fuji xt2 2016, the xt2 body and lenses feel apart and i was underwhelmed by the DR so i got a z6. Happy with the z6.
I recently switched to Leica. All manual makes sense for me. That’s what I shoot 90% of the time these days. The rest of the time, I feel it’s easier to pick up my old trusted Canon 6d over the R5 because I know it inside and out. The best advice: one body, one lens and you almost can use them with your eyes closed. 👌
Before I had a Canon C100 MkII and a Sony A7III, I loved both cameras but I choosed to go with Canon. So I sold my A7III and got a Canon R6. And man, I promise you, it's one of the best decision I made. I'm in love with the R6!! For me it's the perfect hybrid camera. And I never had an overheating warning, even in 4k 50p (I shoot Weddings, events, commercials, music videos). I'm saving right now for a 3rd body, but I still don't know what I will choose. Either a Canon C70, the Bmpcc 6k pro or the Canon R5C (that will come later this year).
I shoot with the Nikon Z6 and Z7 (first edition) I am only shooting with them as I am unable to afford to dump them and my lenses to make the jump to Sony or Canon right now and wouldn't get the value of what I spent on them back. I am basically going to use them until my fiancee moves up here to Canada from the US and then make the switch then. For vlogging I use either the Sony RX100 VII or DJI Osmo Action. I also own and use the original first version Mavic Mini, that I want to upgrade to the Air 2 or Mini 2 or both.
My first was a Canon 70D. Now I have 80D mainly for moon shots, 2 x 5D MKIII main shooter with a backup, 5DSR for landscape/products and a 1DS MKIII. Planning on getting a 1D when the right one comes along. Oh and most likely an R6 but not happy about the mount change.
Canon User since 2008, 1 month Sony Alpha user... back to 5D serie...and still on. But for daily use i will add a little Fuji, X-T4 is pretty cool in hands. The most important thing is to feel good with your equipment, the race for equipment should be the number 1 error pointed out by photographers' list of errors.
I may be in the minority here. I'm a Nikon shooter. I was using a D7200 for nearly 6 years. Then, a few weeks ago, I moved to Nikon Z6 and I've been extremely happy with its performance and the colors. The camera came with a 24-70mm f/4 S lens which is pretty sharp. Then I bought 50mm f/1.8 S lens and it's been amazing! This is the best 50mm prime I've ever owned. I'm not a professional photographer. This is just one of my serious hobbies. So, I think the Z6 is more than enough for me.
Just getting into photography with an old Canon 60D, a 50mm 1.8 and a 70-300 4-5.6 IS II USM. Having so much fun even though its such outdated kit. Your vids are a huge inspiration for my starting out!
Just got back into photography, I picked up a 7d mk II I am loving it so far, the 50mm 1.8 prime on a crop sensor is actually great for me because it’s like an 80mm. It’s really nice for me to slowly get into the street photography side seeing as I’m horribly socially awkward i can kinda keep my distance with the setup I have.
I was always doing a basic photography and I always wanted to be a professional photographer. My first DSLR camera was Canon Rebel T3i for like 8, maybe 9 years but I wasn't much active. Also I was thinking like I will never be good at it, nobody will care about my work and so on. And then me and my friends created a music label and we started making music and music videos. We shot few of them on that Rebel T3i, few just on a mobile phone, but then it wasn't enough. So I thought maybe this is the time I will have to finally fulfill my dreams and start doing photography and videos more seriously. So I jumped directly to Sony A7 III, which is the camera I wanted for a long time. And I'm sure I will never regret it. Nobody still cares but I'm doing what I like to do and I believe that it will change soon. That's my short story. I would like to do a street photography but I have to break the barrier in my head that everybody will be staring at me and nobody will want to be photographed and so on, so l'd like to thank you for your videos, bcs it's inspiring and motivational for me and for many others, I believe. Few more days and trips around Prague and I will hopefully be able to take pictures everywhere I would like to. BIG THANKS!
Cool to hear you're visiting the peninsula in WA! It's close to where I live. Sequim is a great little town that has these amazing lavender fields that are worth seeing! Also the Olympic mountains!
I've been shooting with my second-hand Canon 600D for over 3 years and decided just last month to upgrade into 90D - to get a body capable of shooting decent enough video, better sensor and all those goodies. I often heard (from photographers shooting other brands) stuff like "Dude, get out of Canon before you invest in it and get something actually useful". In the end, I feel like the gear itself doesn't really matter. Does it let you take better photos? Depends, probably yes. Can you tell what camera took a photo just by looking at it? Probably not. If the photo is cool enough, reaction from ppl should be "Whooow, what a cool photo. Where did you take it?", not "What camera did you use". Great video tho, I kinda feel like I'm at your 5D Mark II phase
Shooting Fuji for the colors!.. My story goes like this… Tried X-T4 but wasn’t happy with autofocus, especially in F-Log. Sold that. Then tried Sony a7III but wasn’t impressed with autofocus either and the colors required work. If I had the budget I would have tried a7SIII. Was thinking of a7C but IBIS wasn’t great, old menus, not happy with dynamic range and Sony 8bit wasn’t as robust as Fugi 8bit. So figured I’d give Fuji another go and picked up the new X-S10. Let’s just say Fuji nailed the form factor. Great color. Great dynamic range. Image quality on par with X-T4. Autofocus seems better. Only wish it had weather sealing, big battery, and a better LCD. Otherwise absolutely happy with X-S10 for my needs.
I started with point and shoot Sony and Nikon cameras, ending with the Nikon P1000. That was a great point and shoot camera, which led me into astrophotography. You can get amazing detail shots and the brighter nebulae, moon, Saturn and Jupiter. But then I wanted more. I wanted more flexibility and variety in what I shot. That's when I got into interchangeable lens cameras. I picked up a Sony A73 and a adapted old Minolta and Pentax lenses. The older lenses give such unique characteristics to the photos. Recently I've upgraded my Sony body and have gotten into the modern lenses and bird photography.
Fwiw I think you can find the specs you are looking for from any camera manufacturer. If I had to choose though, the thing that would sway me in Sony’s favor is the lens selection. Not only do you have all of Sony’s first party lenses but you now have a very robust 3rd party market (Sigma, Tamron, Rokinon, Tokina, Viltrox, etc). Out of the big 3 camera manufacturers, Sony is the only one to share autofocus information with those companies.
I'm canon shooter I recommend you to go in Ethiopia and you get the best wild life photographs you've ever made or seen before I really really recommend you that
I'm just an enthusiast, so I've been shooting with the d3200 forever. But last year I made the jump to the D780 with the 24 to 120 f4 What an awesome piece of kit!
Primary digital is Sony a7ii. It’s great and makes great results but isn’t very fun or inspirational for me personally. So I just got an old Fuji xe1 as a personal / street photo camera and it’s a great combo (at least when I’m not shooting film).
Greetings from Germany! I'm shooting with Nikon (D7100), first because my dad did and so I could use his lenses but I absolutely love the menu structure and the feeling of their cameras. I'll probably change to a Z6ii some time for better video and the larger sensor. BTW: Absoultely love your videos, mostly because of the nice colours and good ideas. Keep it up!

The a6400 is a great and affordable option even new, but if I wanted to go full frame first I probably would have been looking for something used.
@@blackcatfancy thank you!
Recent ISO improvements helped to make that an easy decision.
i started photography with a canon 750d and recently i bought the 80d and i really love it
I started on Nikon.
Just a fuji user slipping in... :)
Same here.
Same
Moved from an entry-level Nikon APSC D5000 to Z6ii and I have never been happier! With a Z 70-200 f2.8 I'm super happy
I’m using Nikon,but I really like my friend’s CANON 6D MarkII😂
What nikon ?
Great video guys, some good points made. In a world where technology is constantly changing its good to know you don't always need to buy the latest and greatest in order to take excellent images! Keep up the good work Pierre and Alex 🙂📸
I really like Alex, proper chill dude. Respect
My history: Canon 30D, 5D MkII + 60D, and now only EOS R and two lenses ... i like simple setup :)
Still on a Nikon D3300 and I love it.
Love from Canada ! Shooting with the Canon 90D and I've been shooting Canon since the first Rebel came out
Speaking as an amateur photographer and not as a professional I am very happy with my Panasonic G9.
Love from México 🇲🇽
Started with Nikon 3100 & 3200. I moved to the Canon 90D and have shot a wedding and sold prints with it! Love from Sioux Falls , SD!
canon: videography
nikon: photography
sony: both
simply
Current Camera
Sony a6600
I have used Canon, Nikon, Pentax and others.
Don't get hung on brands, pick what fits your needs and make you happy.
LUMIX G9 here! Micro 4/3 is not as bad as some people think, and I’m very satisfied especially by its stabilization!
I'm still shooting with my Xaomi Poco F1, coz can't afford any camera being a student...but still making gorgeous pictures with it🔥
I had a budget of 2000 Euro for a camera and I chose the Panasonic Lumix S5.
I bought a Canon M50 recently, as I wanted to begin with an entry level camera.
I just bought it, and so far I love it
Bought it a week ago as well lol
Hi from NYC, Canon user. Started with T5i now using 6D Mark ii. Love it!
I use a Canon rebel T5i...I enjoy using this camera to develop my skills as a photographer and use various lenses as well. Great video.
Bought a Nikon d610 2014. Bought a Fuji xt2 2016, the xt2 body and lenses feel apart and i was underwhelmed by the DR so i got a z6. Happy with the z6.
I’m picking up a canon R5 in a few weeks!
I have Sony Canon and Fuji. I do all my video with the A7SIII and my favorite camera for photos is the Fuji X100V
I shoot on a Canon R5 with an RF 28mm-70mm f2 (fave set up) and love it. Zero complaints.
I started with a T3i, jumped through a couple Nikons then sold my D5200 for an a7iii and sold that for a Nikon F4 and a Pentax 6x7
I have been shooting with an a6000 for a few years, I'm hoping to upgrade to an a7Riii eventually!!! love the video, Pierre :)
I have 6d2 for 3 months now and now im start shooting with a a6000 lol
Nice journey! Ive been with Nikon all the way. Started with the Coolpix B500, then the D3400 and now I’ve got the Z6ii. Love(d) all three cameras 📸 🙏🏾
started with the d3400 too! then to a d600 and now im with sony a7iii. never goin back
Canon 7dii has been my favorite since 2015. This shoots low light exceptional well. Ohhhh LOVE THE VAN👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I recently made the switch to Sony I got my a7iv and I’m happy with it I started with Olympus mark ii
Just getting into photography with an old Canon 60D, a 50mm 1.8 and a 70-300 4-5.6 IS II USM. Having so much fun even though its such outdated kit. Your vids are a huge inspiration for my starting out!
Canon 600D. Learned photography for every category with it and upgrading to Canon R this summer
Pierre, you are one of the reasons I'm inspired to be a photographer. Thank you so much for the great content. Keep up the good work 👍
Just got back into photography, I picked up a 7d mk II I am loving it so far, the 50mm 1.8 prime on a crop sensor is actually great for me because it’s like an 80mm. It’s really nice for me to slowly get into the street photography side seeing as I’m horribly socially awkward i can kinda keep my distance with the setup I have.
I'm still shooting with Nikon D40 and D90 invested more on lens ang lights. No problem at all I still shoot weddings with it.
Canon shooter! Currently with the 250D (SL3 if you’re from the rest of the world) and i’ve just bought a EOS R!
Nikon D7000 -> D750 -> Z6 -> Sony A7 III (a month ago).. with love from Slovakia :)
I’m currently shooting with a Sony A200 but I’ll be upgrading to a A7 II in the summer
I use a canon eos r6 but its not important what you are using just love what you do and it will be perfect
Canon 5d mark 3. Hoping to get a canon r6 fingers crossed
I rock with T7 I just got it for the hobby bur ended up getting better lenses specifically for EF so I decided to stick with it for the next few years
I’ve been shooting with the 5d classic and the Lumix G7. ❤️ loved the video!
Keep it up!
First I started off with a Canon 400D and moved on with a Panasonic Lumix and stuck with GH3 hopefully GH6 will be in my next purchase once it comes out. :)
