I shoot 99% of time in Aperture priority, with Sony with ISO Auto - but sometimes it bumps it too high so I adjust manually, but one creative thing I'll try for sure is exposing for highlights - the setting you told in the video. Also, I find wide focus mode with eye/face AF very good, I shoot only this way. Until now, at least.
I just preset it depending on my surrounding. Usually it’s so much light outside that I don’t need to use anything more than 200-400 iso. Even if it underexposes just a tad bit it’s usually easily fixable
@@enqine2321 Hey! No one responded so I hope you kinda figured this out. But if not, they not have their place. But what he’s taking about is for your quick shot setup. Aperture will almost always affect your image because of depth of field. For shutter speed you’ll only have an effect if it’s low enough to blur motion (yours from shaking the camera or the subjects) l. For most photos, especially if you’re trying to catch a photo quickly, you want no motion blur. Also if you do want motion blur for artistic reasons, you’re going to be having to plan and compose the photo more anyways.
I watched this a week after getting my A7IV. loved it! It was great advise after being out of the game for a good part of 9 years. 6 months later, I'm back to see what I'm doing right and wrong and feel like I am on a great path thanks to you! Thank you so much for this wonderful advise! You are making wonderful contributions to the photography community!
On older cameras with a slower shutter rate/fps single shot can help you train and catch the exact moment of action you want; if you have a good trigger finger! I always find on my canon 70d that I end up missing the exact point of action and getting shots, either side of it - where I started shooting prior to the moment and then trusted the camera to capture right moment.. especially when using live view because youre shooting blind after you open the shutter
Not in this video but you said just dial setting to zero on the meter or +/- for proper exposure. I just dial back my highlight warning and watch the histogram. Too w Ap. in low light I need to go to M as SS drops too much. Plenty of light Ap is fine. Just found your channel. Too truly appreciate your skill set and sharing. I have an old Sony w/o some of the new whistle but fine for my budget. A7r3 w 3 basic lens, 24-105, 70-200 F4 and a Sigma 16-28 F2.8. Wish this one was a 35 vs 28.... Thanks
I LOVE this channel! TONS of good info! Your positive energy is infectious & makes me want to hit the streets to shoot everytime I watch a vid! Thank you so much Pierre
Love from Indonesia😍😍, I don't have a camera but I really want to learn first to be a beginner, and thank you for the tips it's very interesting Thank you very much
Thank you so much for this! I just got my first autofocus lens and the backbutton focus + DMF is great! Wish my a7 had settings for min and max shutter speed. Such a simple but powerfull feature =O
Didn't know about the shutter speed limit you cant se on the camera when in Aperture mode, but although I activated it on 250, if I'm pointing to a darker spot, it still goes under 250. What did I missed guys ?
Did you set a max ISO limit too? First, check if it’s on auto. If it is, maybe your camera is trying not to surpass either your max iso or shutter speed, but the exposure can’t get right without breaking one of those “rules.” Maybe it’s just valuing the iso over the shutter speed? I know it’s 11 months later so if you found a fix, I’d love if you’d leave a reply for people in the future!
Hello everyone! Great video !'m not sure if I should by a CANON M100, 600D, 700D or 1300d. Can YOU HELP ME PLEASE? Btw I was looking for the best budget camera for day and night photografy
Great work as always! Thank you! One question for the silhouette photos: Do you use ND filters or anything since you are aiming in the direction of the sun?
I love Av but sometimes the auto iso gets all over the place , pretty annoying if you have to shoot quick not realizing the setting are now f*cked up 😝. I think i will keep shooting Av but in pretty good situation only . I think Manual is the way to go if you have a camera that is easy to use , set & if you're not in rush obviously
Bonjour te souviens-tu à FATUIVA vous êtes venus sur Yara notre voilier pour faire des photos. As tu la possibilité de me les transmettre ? Cordialement Denis
Doesn't really matter if you shooting in manual white balance especially when it comes to Sony color reproduction. You can shoot in kelvin 3200-10000K and the color still wont match what you see unless you create profile with things such as xrite passport where you really calibrate your camera to the hues of the scene. This manual white balance is same as trying calibrate your monitor using your eyes instead of calibration device... Once you in Raw it really doesn't matter unless you create color profile used later in captureOne, LR, cameraRaw, etc 😉
Focusing by half pressing the shutter button is a brilliant engineering invention that I would not pass onto. Besides being quicker than back button focusing, it also allows you to operate the camera one handedly much easier and more secure. Also it is much easier to shoot at the ground level by using your thumb to click the shutter button. Imo it is much better to set the back button to lock the focus... which you will barely use if you learn to keep the focusing point on your subject instead of recomposing. Recomposing is a skill from the past when we used to have only that many focusing points and all cluttered at the center...
Thanks so much for all those great video! I just bought a sony a7 2 with a 85 mm 1.8, because I was low budget... I m so happy, BUT I don't have minimum shutter speed on this camera 😭... When I look yours video, I m wondering if I didn't made a mistake with this camera then!!?

Good tips! Av is nice but how often do you change the Aperture setting? Usually the photographers have a preferred aperture (wide open most often, or F8-F11 for landscape photographers) and sticks to it for the entire shoot which basically makes the Av mode full auto. I say that for a greater control try to master M mode instead and exposure compensation will become your second nature.
I tend to shoot Aperture priority with manual iso but I guess that’s just a habit I have from shooting on an old Nikon where I had to go manual iso
yes relatable ☺️

Hey Pierre, Was curious on what your camera setup was for recording videos just like these!
Meter mode for low light. Stick to multi for large area or center on subject?
Great advice for a new learner, thanks. Nice to find you here on youtube.
Fantastic short tutorial! How do you set focus in landscape photography with single point?
You can also get a small xrite color checker to set the best white balance in post..
Très bons conseils comme toujours Pierre! Merci beaucoup du partage! :)

Nice tips, I got my new a 6400, how should I set my minimum shutter speed in aperture priority mode..?
thx for the help & motivation!

Thank you Pierre, 😊 i miss the that ISO A SS mode! Now i know what to do !😅 After 3 years of shooting with the alpha 7iii…!🙈
Awesome video, awesome tips. Ty!
With canon. I usually keep the white balance in sunny because auto white balance usually keeps making my photos more warm and orange
Fantastic video thank you
thanks for these great tips!!
Do you shoot uncompressed, lossless compressed, or compressed RAW
Thank you!
Love from India sir ♥️ wanna learn many from you.
When i am shooting portrait I use aperture priority , when shooting street i use Shutter priority , Iso auto
Can you make a complete video on how to shoot manual?

It's not about the settings and gear but about the mood, emotion, story etc
Can you do a more thorough video on back button focus? I always have issue with that setting especially on a Sony
Amazing tips !! Thanks
Wow I learned a lot from this!
Do you know what the highlights setting would be on Canon? Or what it would look like? Or is it the same?
Quick release buckles on BOTH shoulders. Now that's extreme 😉
nice tuto
i got the a7ii and sadly it doesnt have the option for min/max ss
You're video is always cool🤙

hello guys but why if I put a minimum shutter speed does the camera go below this? Can anyone explain me this?

Very nice photo 👍📸📷📷

One question for the silhouette photos: Do you use ND filters or anything since you are aiming in the direction of the sun?
You could use an ND if you wanted a shallower DOF, or just use a smaller aperture and a high shutter speed.

never understood the need to shoot any other mode except manual, why would you limit your self in that way ?

no just shoot in manual or shutter priority.
There should be an option in the menu settings to set the minimum shutter speed. First menu tab 5
@@saikunger5378 no, there is no minium shutter option on the A7ii.
