Have watched this clip over & over & over ~ one of my favorites. It royally comical when Philip interrupts the king's speech, the look he gives him and the clearing of the throat. Poor Philip shut up in a heartbeat!! All time favorite, "Henry & Alex get caught".
I can't believe I didn't come here to ask and beg for the sequel but say that I can't wait for it! 😍❤️🤍💙 Happy 10th months to my comfort movie and to my loves: Alex and Henry 🥰✨🏳️🌈
There will be a sequel?!- I haven't watched the whole movie, but I desperately want to, I felt sad because after watching it there's no more of these two, but there is an announced sequel?!
I thought the casting of Stephen Fry as the disapproving king was notable considering that he is gay in real life and portrayed Oscar Wilde, another gay man, in the film Wilde.
A delight to wait for an iconic and trailblazing sequel. A brave decision to go for a second RWARB, from both creatives and cast. And to make it even better and stronger than the first. A decision much appreciated. History, huh? Prime is gonna make some!
That is the truth - "about time I stood up for myself", is so hard and dangerous in real life with serious complications. When I came out, I was thrown out, I had planned my escape and new life. Never again!
Right? 🤪 I really hope someone makes a montage of that scene and part of the other film, it would be too good! If it already exists, I apologize in advance but I haven't seen it (yet). 🤩
Seen this movie a billion times and still came here to watch this and be excited another clip was added. Love seeing Alex and Henry reunited and Henry finally get to stand up to his family and be with the man he loves. 😍❤🤍💙
Every time I hear "The Prince of England" I cringe - surely a little the writers could have come up with a title solution that's at least passable. Or would the teeny boppers have been too confused?
I probably mentioned this before but I love Stephen Fry as the King so much so that I centered my fanfic around him and Ellen rather than Alex and Henry. I love that he's a completely different person from Mary. I never get the impression that he is homophobic or doing this solely because he is worried about the Royal image the way Phillip is and Mary is in the book. I get the impression that he is genuinely worried about Henry and what would happen to him if he came out. Perhaps concerned that he might get hurt or harassed, or even attacked by hateful members of the public. He's very smothering and protective of him, but in a way that suggests that he loves his grandson but can't accept the fact that he's grown up and is ready to face the world. My reasons: 1. He read all of the emails. Most people would have been like Phillip and just glanced through them appalled or didn't read them at all and believed what they wanted to believe. James had to know for sure that their love was real and conceded that it was, "a trifle vulger" but real. 2. When Henry steps out, James only asks if he's sure. He doesn't try to stop them though he could have. Maybe it's just me but there seems to be a hidden feeling of pride underneath the concern. 3, Watch the long sad looks at 4:46-4:57 that he gives as Phillip berates Henry and James's back is turned. Note when Henry says that he and Alex love each other deeply he winces and looks close to tears. No words, just the look on his face. This is a man who's in a lot of pain and is going through some sadness, worry, and regret in his head and can only express it when he's alone and no one is watching. 4. I don't believe that the casting of Stephen Fry was an accident or simply irony. I think that it was intentional so we could wonder about these things. As far as I know, the man has never played a heartless villain like Mary. He couldn't if his life depended on it. They rewrote the character so we could see the hidden kindness and sadness behind the stiff propriety. They rethought the character to fit Stephen Fry's strengths and did it, I think, successfully. Also I think he was intentionally cast for another reason. Now, I am not the only person who has come to this speculation and not the only fanfic writer to write about this, but I agree that I think James is a closeted gay man. He faced a similar situation in his youth and hid in the closet rather than comes out. Perhaps, it was safer and he learned to accept the closet more than freedom. Perhaps, he felt the pressure of his role as Prince of Wales or King of England and denied his own heart. Perhaps he was forced or threatened to. Maybe he was threatened to be sent to a conversion therapy center and who knows what could have befallen his lover. Perhaps, he had an arranged marriage and had to acquiesce to it. Also adding to this speculation, if he was married to Mary from the book, it was probably a miserable, unhappy, and potentially abusive one in which he resigned himself to as well. Putting that speculation in mind, it makes the sad expressions even sadder. He was remembering his own experience telling someone probably the late King and Queen, his parents, that he was gay or them finding out on their own and berating even abusing him over it. When Henry says that he and Alex love each other deeply, James' face is practically saying, "So was I, once." Anyway, it's a great performance and says and suggests so much for a small role.
I want others’ opinions on this. I think the king interrupted Philip when he was talking for 1 of 2 reasons: 1) to remind him that as king, HE will talk to Henry and doesn’t need his assistance, or 2) he did it as a way of saying, “You’re one to talk,” at Philip’s use of the word ‘infatuation’ seeing that Philip married his childhood sweetheart. (Note: not saying having a childhood sweetheart and marrying them later in life is wrong or weird, I honestly think it’s sweet and a little amazing) Anyway, what do you guys think?
I think he thinks that Phillip is overstepping his boundaries. He's reminding him, "You're not King yet! Don't act like it!" Also he knows Phillip's personality and his feelings about homosexuality in general and Henry in particular. They may have even talked about their opinion over the emails. James knows that whatever Phillip says won't be any good and will only escalate the situation leading to more arguments and eventually estrangement. Remember, James is also estranged from his daughter. He doesn't want history to repeat itself with his grandson.
I think they should have stayed in the royal family, although Americans have no respect for European culture so it will be hard. Although he could learn from the wonderful Princess Grace of Monaco
Hey, Amazon Prime, I saw an announcement about Mercy Thompson. I personally think Amber Midthunder and Taylor Zakhar Perez would be great as Mercy and Adam. Also, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Nicholas Galitzine would have chemistry overload as Maskelle and Rian from 'Wheel of the Infinite.'
Henry mentions in the movie several times that his father had passed away . He mentioned that his mom probably suspects he's gay but we never see her .
The irony of this scene is that Stephen Fry who plays the king is gay in real life and has been out since the 1980's
Stephen Fry as King of England and Uma Thurman as President of the United States…I so wanna live in this world!
Rather ironic Stephen Fry playing the king who is against a homosexual Prince.
The way we don’t even have to beg for the sequel anymore 😅😅😅
Maybe we beg for a trilogy? 🫠😂
Wdym?
When I saw that Stephen Fry was the king, I was like, “Genius!”

They have already announced a sequel, but no hints of the plot yet.
Sequel?? A royal wedding?❤

The ring! Henry is trying to turn the ring, which he no longer has, whilst Alex is actually doing it!
Prince Henry really looks like William
"they love the idea of me" hence the idea of you
