this is the hardest info to find out about while online shoping, and to me one of the most important. thanks for the vid i love seeing boots and learning more about them from your channel!!!
My work/crap kickers have cloth linings and both boot linings have ripped. My personal preference is for a good bovine leather lining like my Olathe CB7s.
I love the hung leather lining in my Tecovas Johnny boots! I would never consider a boot with a cloth lining. It was interesting to learn that pigskin lining doesn't breath as well as bovine. Calf skin sounds like a great idea. My brother lives on a beef cattle farm and calves die all the time. I imagine that leather could still be used. Great video!
Just got a pair of Justin boots online a few weeks ago and they arrived with the cloth lining. I didn’t know they had that lining when I bought them, but was to lazy to return. So far they’ve been holding up to constant wear, and since I’m in Alaska, the added heat from the lining is a plus! We’ll see how they look after a year.
That's a bummer. So many companies are entirely clear about their linings which is a shame but I'm glad you're making it work! Hope they last you a good long time
I came because of those King Ropers, I stayed for the linings! Hung linings in my three pairs of Chisos (including a pair of King Ropers). Traditional leather lining in my two pairs of Lucchese boots.
I just bought a new pair of Dan Post boots and they are pigskin lined I compared them to a pair of Dan Post boots that I bought in the 90s and they were bovine lined
Great topic to cover JC. Cloth lining to me is the worst. Any type of lining other than cloth is acceptable but my preference in a lined boot is cow or calf skin.
I don't think I'm able to tell if it's cowhide or calfskin on my boots. But I have to say that cloth linings are definitely not my favorite, they create too much heat! I do love the comfort of leather lining all the way !
I wonder why lucchese uses pigskin in its bootmaker line. Everytime ove asked the company line is it cuts cost. But every other company making 400$+ boots uses cowhide. You just don't see pigskin often in boots at that price but lucchese uses it. They're one of my favorite brands I just wish I were able to get a deeper answee.
I've been wondering that too. They may just be using their brand and name to continue to charge the same price hoping we don't notice. Lots of brands have done that in the past and eventually it catches up with them. hope Lucchese doesn't go too far with it
Great info, especially for people new to boots. Linings are not discussed often but definitely make a difference. I’ve worn boots will all these lining types and definitely prefer cowhide or calfskin hung linings to others. Cloth and unlined are my least favorite.
Looks like mine have cowhide. I think that many companies are moving away from traditional material and into cloth linings, synthetic soles and synthetic inner soles these days. I'm going to have to cherish my what are becoming vintage boots because they are becoming an expensive niche product now.
I think so too. It's tough to use some high quality leathers and materials inside a boot where it doesn't see as much attention from consumers. It makes sense that's where companies would want to cut corners but you can definitely tell a difference when you wear traditionally made high quality boots or vintage boots!
" Hello Jeremiah, excellent video that talks about different linings or not or seams, it's a good start on a good topic! Problem (unless we are in cowboy boot stores) on the internet on some vintage boots sales sites, it is not described the interior seams or the leather of the heel! One day, I bought a pair of Justin cowboy boots on EBAY, and the left boot, the boot puller of the boot inside rubbed abominably while walking, leaving a very ugly mark on the side of the calf! The cobbler said, it's not leather ! New or used, there are very unpleasant surprises on the internet because of bad descriptions! "
Another great video Jeremiah! I have 12 pairs of boots, majority with the leather lining and its the best, especially cowhide. Thank you for your awesome knowledge!!
Not mentioned was lamb or DEER skin. Have one pair of Rios that are deer skin lined. Rest are calf skin lined except one old pair of Hondos (L1980s/90s, don't remember date code) has pig skin. Love the exterior color but not my favorite boot overall. I've seen new Hondos and they seem much better quality.
Have you seen cloth lining just around the foot of the boot? I have a pair of Justin Caddo grizzly brown I wear for cold days. I was just wondering if all bent rail models came like this
Making a pair of ostrich boots and stuck on a liner ... the calf i use for exotic watch straps but lamb is soft too ... Also the necks of the 2 ostriches where theres no medalions or quill holes are soft and supper thin while having their own oils to add to its life line. Then deer skin like gloves is as smooth as calf , soft but more heat i find. Shark is also soft except its wrinkled but i dont feel the wrinles as much as youd think Is calf the softest of ALL leathers?or just cow leathers?
Could you please tell me which shoes brands to look into that don't use pigskin in their shoes and boots? If you can guide me a little bit that would be extremely useful. For some personal reasons, I would like to avoid pigskin altogether.
Have an old pair of Mason Western boots. Ebay find. Brand new old stock. Looks like leather lining but it's flaking badly. Funny you make this vid, I've been curious about how it can break off like that. Any thoughts?
i prefer no lining. so my feet can breath. lined boots and shoes, especially cloth lined. my feet feel like there suffocating. hot , sweating, stink. my feet never get hot or sweat, or stink in un lined boots.
Hey men, I got a question, do you know what boots dors Tommy Miller from The last of us part 2 uses? I’m trying to find for days, but i can’t find, can you help me?
Great video Jeremiah! I have over 25 pairs of boots, I'd have to do a count, lol. I have 8 favorite pairs I wear most, split between work and casual and fancy for going out. I'll pick my Chisos to comment the lining on. I have the brown medium square toe, #2? They have the red hung lining that is really soft and may turn white socks a bit pink. I'd say the Chisos have the nicest lining in my experience. My worst boot is the Mexico made Ariat Circuit, that has the seam on the outside and is unlined. I just hate those boots
The Chisos lining is really nice! I don't blame you for bringing that one up first. The Ariat Ramblers I tried a couple years ago also had the unlined tops and I wasn't a big fan either. Thanks for watching buddy!
I have some boots with horse hide linings and it is very soft and breathable.
Thanks for this, i keep searching about this and this is one of the few that breaks it down! Thank u!
Chiso’s no.2’s and 5’s and my Heritage McQueen and Capote’s
WOW! Those have some top shelf linings!
Great information.....I have Calfskin in my Los Altos Thanks
Love it!! some of the best
Calfskin lining 4 sure. 👍
Thanks for the great info.
my favorite is my 38 year old ostrich leg Hondo boots. I believe it's cow hide.
Love it! Hondo boots have been so awesome for years
@@JeremiahCraig do you know if ferrini and Hondo sizing is similar? The ferrini is a square toe the Hondo is a R toe if that matters.
@@squirrelynutz1 I'm not sure. I haven't tried Ferrini yet but I hope so soon
I own multiple boots with different linings and I gotta say calfskin lining is the most comfortable!
I agree!!
I know this video will definitely become more valuable in the future for new boot wearers
I hope so! Thanks for watching again Jay! I appreciate it

I've got a pair of goat leather boots. I love them!
Love it!
My work/crap kickers have cloth linings and both boot linings have ripped. My personal preference is for a good bovine leather lining like my Olathe CB7s.
Bummer! The Olathes are so awesome
Love the channel
Thanks buddy!=
I have a pair of Roper python.. looks like the pigskin you describe, but it's super soft and the seams are covered.
Btw, I really dig your videos. Thanks for your info!
Thank you again for more GREAT content
Your videos are the best
10 Pairs of boots all leather line
They the only way to go
That's what I'm talking about! Thanks so much for watching buddy
I got roughout inside my redwings pecos 1178
I can't wait to get some Pecos

Great topic to cover JC. Cloth lining to me is the worst. Any type of lining other than cloth is acceptable but my preference in a lined boot is cow or calf skin.
Thanks Carol! I agree. cloth lining is the least exciting for me to wear
I prefer leather lined boots. But technically, we wear textile linings anyway… it’s just that the textile lining is removable AKA it’s a sock
Haha that's true!
I don't think I'm able to tell if it's cowhide or calfskin on my boots. But I have to say that cloth linings are definitely not my favorite, they create too much heat! I do love the comfort of leather lining all the way !

Howdy, all! How about lambskin-lined boots? Many custom bootmakers upcharge for this option. thanks!!
What boot is that with the calfskin lining (make/model)
Heritage Flores

Great information. You pieced this together through many videos. Awesome to have the info in one side by side video.
Totally! I hope to reference it a lot in the future to help new folks coming through. Thanks so much DJ
All i have is pigskin
Nothing wrong with that!

Great video, your the best and ur vids are very informative.
Thanks so much Jon! I appreciate it
What is the usual price range for cloth lining boot?
Under $300
I have a pair of Justin Ropers and the inside heel lining has separated and now irritates my heel. Any way to fix it?
Could you please tell me which shoes brands to look into that don't use pigskin in their shoes and boots? If you can guide me a little bit that would be extremely useful. For some personal reasons, I would like to avoid pigskin altogether.
Pretty much any brand that sells boots above $350
@@JeremiahCraig Thanks. Your video was extremely helpful. You made it very clear on how to distinguish between these different types of leather.

Dried out. Or a coating is flaking. But if some leathers get too dry they start to disintegrate and fall apart. Prob not much help.

My cow boy boots lining started pealing. :( they are my ferrini boots
I have a Bible bound with Calf Skin it is soft and supple.. would love to get a Bible bound in lamb skin sometime.. from Church Bible Publishers.
Cloth lining also smells bad faster.
Everybody knows about Linings because they're going to rub your ankle Raw
I think my linings are human. They have tattoos. :-)
hahaha!
