    This was a super helpful video, especially when it comes to sizing. Some brands, like Ariat for example, offer printable sizing guides for their specific boots on their website that you print out and then step onto and it will let you know what size to order in their shoes. Finding that was immensely helpful when ordering boots from home, since sizing can definitely vary from brand to brand, it saved me having to make returns on the boots I ordered and I got a perfect fit first time out.

    Actually I believe you should stand, when taking a measure, putting equal weight on each foot. Instruction #2 on their website state: "Have the customer remove their footwear and stand, placing their right heel into the right heel cup. The customer should stand with equal weight on both feet to ensure that the foot being measured has elongated and spread to its maximum size."
    Great instruction video, and thank you for ALL you do.
    Have a Merry Christmas!

    Great tips! I did the trace and measure since I don’t have access to a Brannock device and find that I’m about an 8.5C. That fits in perfectly with what I wear for Ariat and Corral (8.5D). The Ariats are just a tiny bit wide and loose in the instep which makes sense with my measurements

    I just ordered a pair of Rujo boots. I wasn't sure what size to order. I usually wear a 9 in dress shoes and often a 9.5 in sneakers but sometimes a 9. I ordered the boots in 9d hopefully that works out 😁. I'm going to use your tips when they arrive.

  • @geslinam9703

    I don’t trust all the crazy sizing charts. Liberty Black has one that suggests you stand barefoot on a piece of paper and measure your foot - according to the calculations I made using their chart, I’m a 9.5 - which is two sizes bigger than I really am. I held my breath and just ordered my normal size and they fit fine...though for me, the right foot is always a little tighter. After some wear, they stretch and are eventually fine.
    I don’t get why it would be better to measure while sitting. When you are standing, your feet must be a little bigger, particularly in width.

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  4 года назад +1

      I've heard it both ways but I've heard to get measured while you're sitting more often. Maybe it's to ensure a snug enough fit. Not sure but you're right, it's always best to get measured by a pro and not rely on the charts some in foreign countries don't have that option though

    I bought myself a Brannock device and according to the device, I should be a size 7. However, I actually wear size 6 Justin and Chippewa boots. If I take size 6 1/2, I have to put an insole and wear a pair of thick socks. That said, I recently bought a pair of a size 7 Chisos boots and I am so glad I didn’t find it too big at all. I don’t even need an insole. As you can see, sizing is all over the place for different brands.

    Interesting that you bring this one out the day that I order a pair of boots. By those measurements I'm an 11 D, but for some reason EU size 44 fits me best, which is US 10 according to the "official international shoe size conversion chart." But... I have a pair of dress shoes that say US11/EU44, lol. Speaking of boots, I bought a pair from Sendra this morning. I'll post some pictures in the boot group. Fingers crossed on the fit! Here's a good one also, put a shopping plastic bag on your foot (over the 🧦) before sliding in to the boot, goes on and off so easy til they break in. Wear them 1 hour each day for two weeks, if you don't want new blisters. Break them in slow!

      I was told this trick many years ago when I tried on my first pair of cowboy boots at a store in London. When I tried to put them on at first, I couldn’t get them on, and would have gone for a bigger size, but the guy at the store said no, put your foot in this plastic bag first. If they go on OK with the plastic bag and feel snug, they’ll be right. And they worked out perfectly. Sadly worn out now, but I lived in those boots for a long while.

    Bought my first pair online just yesterday. Fortunately, the brand is identical to a pair I already own so sizing was easy. EDIT: Hmmm. My foot is exactly 11” long and 4.5” wide. Now have three pair of boots. The first, acquired at a thrift shop, fit perfectly with an insole. Those are J-toe DanPost 11EW. The second pair, also J-toe DanPost11EW, are in nearly new condition. They feel tighter - yet my toes scrunch in more, and my socks somehow get pulled down into the boot while I’m wearing it. They need a break-in period. Then I just acquired a pair of RudyLara round toe 11EE… and my feet are swimming in them! They are beautiful red caiman, so I’m going to get a leather insole and see how that works. I might need a leather/cork insole, with a cushioned insole over that. The heel and toe areas actually feel good on these, it’s the instep that’s loose.

    See I love cowboy boots cause they are the few shoes you can regularly find wide widths. I’m a 9ee or a 8.5eee. My issue is I have tall bridges and makes getting my foot into a boot really difficult to try any on, then have to break in extensively to get that top part stretched to fit my foot easier

  • @tomthoelke8343
    @tomthoelke8343 2 года назад

    Jeremiah one thing I'd perhaps like you to speak more about is the vamp or instep area of the boot. I am a 13.5D on a Brannock device so you'd think that I'd go the next size up to a 14D but if I do the instep or vamp is so tight across the top of my foot that either its extremely uncomfortable to break in or I have to go to the boot store and have that area stretched but if I order a 14E or Double E then I have no issues. I feel like the width of the boot also ties into the vamp or instep area too. This isn't just the case with one brand but all brands I've tried including Dan Post, Cavenders Old Gringo, Double H, Nocona etc.

Finally got around to measuring my feet and my true size is 6.5, EE-EEE width, so I'm confused as to how my wide feet are fitting comfortable width-wise in boots that should theoretically be ~1/5 inch too narrow. I even put in an extra insole and wear thick socks to get a better fit and the width fits great.

    The curse of being a B width is that you are severely limited in choice of style since most boot makers don't make that size at all, and if they do, they are usually the more expensive boots. I'm a size 10B, and I learned not to settle for a 10D or you will get blisters around the heel of your foot as the boots slop up and down as you walk.

    Hey Jeremiah! Just wanna say I really enjoy your vids! I'm new to the cowboy boot game and this is what I've learned. Let me know if this sounds about right. My normal shoe size is 10. And I have wide feet. EEE. I got a pair of Boulet's online and sized up to take into account the J toe shape.( Ordered an 11 EEE) Should I always size up by a half or a full size to account for the fact the toe region of the boot will be restricted due to the shape of the toe (ie snip toe or J toe etc...). I also ordered a pair of Ropers at a size 10 because the toe shape is a medium toe and less restrictive. Does this sound right? Thanks for taking the time to read this and keep up the great work!

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  3 года назад +1

      @@JeremiahCraig I appreciate it. I enjoy your videos, especially your comparison videos. I hope one day for a Tecovas vs Rujo video like you did with Cureo. Until then, I'll keep smashing the like button 👍🏾. Keep up the good work

    Im just guessing it is cheaper to make square toes, anyone know?

      They fit more people easily which means less returns and less people complaining about toes pinching. It's definitely more economical to just make wide square toe boots

    I have a question please I did my at home measurements an I'm 9 1/2 C narrow cowboy boot but I'm having trubal finding the boot that I like the looks of with the C narrow foot do you think 9 1/2 wide from Amazon would be too wide or should I settle

      A wide width boot (probably EE) will be too wide for your C width. You might be better trying the average D width at your regular size or sizing down a half size with a 9D. Try both and see which you like better

    Aren't you supposed to measure your foot while standing?

    Yeah but unless you buy personalized boots they only sell D through EEE

    Something is wrong with your chart. My foot is 12 1/2 inches long and 4 1/2 wide. According to your chart that makes me a size 15, D width. I wear a 12 D boot all day long! Either your chart is off or I have really weird feet! 🤔

      you can wear a 12 D and be a different true size. I'm a 12B and can wear 10.5D boots. If you think that's crazy watch this video - ruclips.net/video/pNgTB-ACbNU/видео.html

      @@JeremiahCraig that is crazy! Wow a size 14 fit you! I'm frustrated because the boots I love are no longer made! I have nocona boots and absolutely love them but sadly they are not made the same anymore! They use rubber soles and synthetic materials in them now. I've been lucky over the years being able to find nocona old new stock. But I've had zero luck recently! Seems my only options as I want 100% leather ,a riding heel and leather soles with lemon pegs and nails is Rujo,Chisos,Cuero and Tecovas. And most of these if not all have synthetic padding in the insoles. My issue with padding is they typically make my feet sweat! I don't understand why boot makers think we need padding? A proper fitting boot doesn't need them and because it's all leather it absorbs the moisture instead of causing it! Then there is the issue of ordering online as I really don't want to have to wait and go thru the process of returning if they don't fit right! Sigh......just so frustrating! Make matters worse I live in south Carolina and there are zero custom hand made boots makers here. Boot stores here are a joke because they only want to carry a majority of square toe boots and very little selection of round toe all leather boots and the one they do have are very expensive! I'm leaning towards getting a pair of Cuero's Eastwood boots in vintage tobacco. My wife says I need to stop it with all black boots as she says they are ,"so eighties"! Lol! She says she wants me to get a brown boot and the vintage tobacco just does it for her! Lol! I guess I'll try them out. I'm old and set in my ways but what the hell! Lol! Thanks for the videos!!
