I used to wear cowboy boots (they were Justin's Western Bay Apache) when I was 20. I wore them while cutting hair. My feet felt... good. I really liked the arch support. It also seem to help my posture a little bit. Plus, no laces, so I didn't get hairs working it's way into my socks. I stopped because of very stupid reason. There was a girl I really liked and she didn't dig them. Now, I am thinking about wearing them again.
I used to wear cowboy boots from time to time maybe two to three times a week but my now recent ex-wife always made fun of me and hated cowboy boots so I quit and I am now getting back into it
I was given (from mum) a pair of Tony Lama (eland leather) "seconds" that got me through High School, two university degrees, and lots of work. They lasted about 25 years. I went through three soles (that I can remember) and countless heels. When going through the airport the boots had to be scanned - the heel had become solid nails. I've just ordered a replacement pair.
Thanks for the advice!! I definitely need to get some new boots. I bought the ariat composite toe cowboy boots for a job I had a few years ago. They have done me great so far. I've only had to remove the original insole for a... we'll say aftermarket. I need something for going out on the town now lol. My cowboy hat has gotten me many compliments so far. So glad I dropped the T-shirt/sweatpants life. Yes, I'm a "all hat, no cattle" cowboy.
Glad my video was useful! you can buy ariat insoles from amazon, thats what I do. Its nice aint it! haha you aint gotta be a cowboy to wear cowboy attire
Decent video for those buying boots for style, but obviously not a working cowboy. Two major considerations for cowboys or western riders: leather soles and rounded toes. Leather soles keep you from getting hung up in the stirrup if you need to bail off a horse or if your half thrown and need to get clear. They’ll slide out where a rubber sole will stick and get you hurt. Rounded toe slides into the stirrups easy, making it easier to recover a lost stirrup while on the move. Both serious safety concerns for a rider. And you can wipe the mud and manure off and still do a good two step!
Exactly I completely agree. I get buckaroo boots to get a western heel and a round toe.I wish they still made boots like they did 15 or 20 years ago. Then I could still get cowboy boots like the buckaroo round toe boots but with shorter tops.
Conditioning boots is very important in order to prevent cracking. I use Bick 4 leather conditioner on my leather and exotic boots. Once my boots start looking dull, it's time to condition them. I love my Justin ostrich ropers because they're so comfortable.

Also, I never wear any of my boots in wet weather/rain as this is sure to ruin the soles before their time.

While they can be a hassle to clean they are a nice pair, and I wear them on occasion. I wear them more than my exotics cause i mainly wear them for special occasions cause i dont want to mess em up lol
Boots last for years! The materials wont degrade over time if you dont put them in corrosive conditions ie barnyard and drenching them with gasoline. Now reptile leather needs to be conditioned to keep the areas inbetween the scales hydrated and not crack
Bought a pair of Coty James that had a latex insole, unknown to me, causing a horrific allergic reaction. Bought ridgid, leather covered insoles, problem solved. Just keep this in mind if you have a latex allergy.

Hey everyone, I am looking to buy my first pair of boots I like quality so I definitely want to have a look at the real thing. I would like hem to have those beautiful flame tings on the side, regular smooth lather and I have to be able to fit my arch supports in there. Does anyone have a tip what brands to look for in Europe?
I used to wear Justin, but now I wear Double H. They're both good, not too expensive, but I have found that Double H last longer. I've only had to buy two pair in the last 12 years, and I wear mine really hard. I hope this helps.
I'm about to buy my first cowboy boot. I saw one in town, and every important thing you said you want going on the inside was perfect but.. My ankle was touching the side of the the boot quiet ...... obviously 👀🤷🏻♂️ It didn't hurt, I didn't really feld pressure, but it was very noticeable. (definitely never had it with a regular shoe) Is this okay, normal? The guy in the store told my it just needs to be broken in at that exact place. Was he right? Further on.. Great video and very informative! 👌
I dont know if ive ever noticed it. Ive had some that folded and started digging into my ankle, but that was because they were too big. Idk probably wouldn't be an issue but i could be wrong
That depends, if 10 is your foot size and your width is D and the boots width is D. Keep that size, and brands have different sizing. And I cant size down due to my jacked up toes, im a b width so most boots dont fit me right. Id go try on a couple of boots to see what fits best
I would go true to size. A lot of boot brands have been getting better about being true to size But boots have a length and a width measurement, a lot of brands have free returns or try on in store to really get a feel of what boots size you'll need
I prefer Tony Lama,Dan Post ,and Justin boots with a leather sole and a rider heel, half round or pointed toe for dress boots.Don't care for the square toe they look like someone chopped the boot in half off on the end,Lol.
I'd rather have a boot that's a size and a half to big than one that is even a little tighte . I always order a size that I know will fit or be just a lttle big. I almost never end up with a boot I can't wear anymore . besides the US ARMY can't be wrong when it comes to boots their policy is they issue a size big for an extra pair of socks in cold weather and long marches. The military especially US Army live on their feet
So can i buy foam insoles for leather sole boots? I tried on a few and it felt like i was walking on concrete. Im used to work boots and adding new foam insoles which help a ton.
Normally my boot size is a 9, had a pair of suede pointed toe boots size 8.5 from years back now they're a really tight painful squeeze on the toes, anything i can do? I figure a pair of boot stretchers might b the only solution. I'm hoping a boot stretcher will make them a size bigger i.e 9..................................liked and subscribed!
Sorry for the late response, and probably not the answer you were wanting to hear. When the boot is tight in the toe box, that will not stretch and will be that tight. A boot stretcher will make the boot wider and possibly give more room in the instep.
I dont really have a favorite brand. There are a lot of boots that I need to try first. Im not big on roper boots, mainly because I like the taller underslung heel. I like j toe or medium round toe best i think

Help solve a family argument 😂 my son, first thing he did with his brand new boots was go wade in the creek! I was raised to think leather & water don’t mix, but nothing would change his mind because his FFA girlfriend said this was the best way to break them in. I was at Wild Bill’s in Texas and bought a pair of Dan Post western boots from him. I actually met “Wild Bill,” the owner of the store later that night at a Helicopter Association International convention party. Good times, Good food and Good booze! So I got to talking to Bill and he suggested the water soak too, but only to help break them in and stretch them if necessary. But he did say it’s always best to just buy the proper fit and to listen for the “air-gap “pop” when putting them on. (There’s videos about that “pop.”). That’s what I’ve always done and I’ve never had the need to do the water or isopropyl alcohol treatment on leather. ***Note: do NOT soak your boots with alcohol while wearing them. It’s a toxic chemical that is easily absorbed through the skin.
The light brown j toe boots that have the rubber sole are Justin's The medium round light brown are Noconas, the suede are Tecovas. And the dark brown are old gringo by cavenders
I’ll be moving to Oklahoma soon there’s a tecovas shop should I just go there to get boots? Also what jeans should I wear with boots. I always struggle with jeans because I’m 5’5 and the length is always too long

Try some Polish or Czech beer sometime, a lot of good ones to choose from.
@@kingkat8080 nice! Oh yeah, they do make yah feel different. Also wearing cowboy boots with a suit i think is better than dress shoes, just a personal opinion. Ill give it a try someday, always like trying new things when it comes to alcohol
I wish I had a friend
No rubber sole if riding. Leather slides in and out of stirrup much easier.
This is a fine example of a 5 gallon head wearing a 10 gallon hat 😂😂😂.. But short and to the point and informative... Thank u 👍
Man I got that 10 head. Go big or go home!
Hahah glad you liked it
@@smackdadious hey you do you brother...and do it your way 👍😊...
For dudes, should/ could pants ever be tucked into the boot? like what if you are working around a lot of mud? Could you tuck you jeans in? What about trouser choice?
Yeah, when its really muddy or wet ill tuck my jeans in my boots.
Use to wear cowboy boots all the time. However i wonder with mt workouts if my calves got bigger with leg days. Curious if im normally a 11 and half what size should i get? I even tried 12-14 boot. Thanks.
Good videos, new subscriber here, i wear some pointy Sendra brand here but most square point more for a city... i love your boots and big fan of those american boots, love them in every way. Greetings from Valencia, Spain
Hey man, another very good review! Thank you. Jim
[I, own a western belt bucket that cost me one thousand dollars it's made from 14 ct gold and marble I only were it when I'm going out in town]🙏
Great video. Just a quick question, what brand and model is the brown boot at 1:58?
Thanks for the info, knowing the basics before I buy keep the (I should a or would a ) if I knew better, out of my mouth.
Glad you liked it and got something from the video!
Dancing cowboys are my nemesis.
I know a lot of cowboys who love to two step man
Great clip pardner!
I love the Tony lamas!❤
I have seen some vintage unbranded ones that I like but I am not sure how comfortable they would fit me.
Great job with this video brother! How do you like that suede Tecovas? I am a big fan of their boots. I have 7 pairs. I like the look of the suede but don't enjoy cleaning it so I have stayed away but I am thinking about getting a pair and hardly ever wearing them.
I like them, but yeah keeping them clean can be a hassle. I wear them scarcely and not when its raining. I get you, why get a pair if you aint gonna wear it. While they can be a hassle to clean they are a nice pair, and I wear them on occasion. I wear them more than my exotics cause i mainly wear them for special occasions cause i dont want to mess em up lol
How long do boots last. I have a few pair that I don’t wear often and like to keep nice. Will the materials eventually go bad or disintegrate?
Boots last for years!
The materials wont degrade over time if you dont put them in corrosive conditions ie barnyard and drenching them with gasoline.
Now reptile leather needs to be conditioned to keep the areas inbetween the scales hydrated and not crack
Bought a pair of Coty James that had a latex insole, unknown to me, causing a horrific allergic reaction. Bought ridgid, leather covered insoles, problem solved. Just keep this in mind if you have a latex allergy.
Never heard of a latex insole, very interesting. I aint got a latex allergy, but thanks for the heads up
I'm new to your videos. You've got a nice boot collection
Welcome, glad to have yah here. Thanks, hopefully soon i can grow that collection lol
@@smackdadious from the boots you've shown youve got a nice assortment
Love this video! Only question I have is how do I prevent rubbing on my shin? I have 3 pairs and they all after awhile rub really bad on the side of my leg. Any advice on how to prevent that?
try using long socks. I wear calf high socks with all my boots. That fixed the problem for me, hope this is helpful
Dan post boot socks are pretty awesome
Lee Miller guys go to him Texas
What do you think of Suede Cowboy Boots?
My ankle was touching the side of the the boot quiet ...... obviously 👀🤷🏻♂️
It didn't hurt, I didn't really feld pressure, but it was very noticeable. (definitely never had it with a regular shoe)
Is this okay, normal?
The guy in the store told my it just needs to be broken in at that exact place.
Was he right?
Further on.. Great video and very informative! 👌
I dont know if ive ever noticed it.
Ive had some that folded and started digging into my ankle, but that was because they were too big.
Idk probably wouldn't be an issue but i could be wrong
@@smackdadious okay, we'll see... thanks for the reply
[this, is all I were here on the farm is work boots and western cowboy boots]👍
I only have one boot ( the Soto h7001 in brown ) and I've been wearing it for like 3 months and they already feel like a slipper
Smart advices! Thanks!
Glad it helps!
Is it common to size down half a size if you're going going from the classic R toe, to a square toe?
That depends, if 10 is your foot size and your width is D and the boots width is D. Keep that size, and brands have different sizing. And I cant size down due to my jacked up toes, im a b width so most boots dont fit me right. Id go try on a couple of boots to see what fits best
Which Boots did you sell
[thank, you for you're video] 👍
i just got my first pair of cowboy boots but i cant have them till christmas so for now im stuck with my old work boots
Great advice.
@Smackdadious Do you have a recommendation on what brand/insoles to buy for a boot that is a little big?
I usually use ariat ats insoles for boots that are too big for me
Jd love your hat where did you get it
I got that rodeo king felt at cavenders
I myself wear cowboy boots here in ( Philippines)
Hell yeah
Hah! Going home soon with my Dan Posts and Luccheses!
should i go true to size? i buy everything in 11 but will sometimes do 10.5 but only if i have too, never 11.5 made that mistake before.
I would go true to size.
A lot of boot brands have been getting better about being true to size
But boots have a length and a width measurement, a lot of brands have free returns or try on in store to really get a feel of what boots size you'll need
I prefer Tony Lama,Dan Post ,and Justin boots with a leather sole and a rider heel, half round or pointed toe for dress boots.Don't care for the square toe they look like someone chopped the boot in half off on the end,Lol.
How do you keep your toes from being mashed when the toe is so pointy?
Magic lol
But the toe box is elongated to where your toes arent shoved into the toebox. If they are you have a size too small
Hello loved the video! Is okay to dress like a cowboy even though I am not a cowboy?
Yeah man, wear what you like to wear!
Great Video & Real Nice Boots!Whats your favourite toe shape?Do you still have those Boots?
Not sure, i like j toe, 7 toe, and snip toe
So can i buy foam insoles for leather sole boots? I tried on a few and it felt like i was walking on concrete. Im used to work boots and adding new foam insoles which help a ton.
Yeah, insoles i use are either the ariat insoles or chisos insoles
Normally my boot size is a 9, had a pair of suede pointed toe boots size 8.5 from years back now they're a really tight painful squeeze on the toes, anything i can do? I figure a pair of boot stretchers might b the only solution. I'm hoping a boot stretcher will make them a size bigger i.e 9..................................liked and subscribed!
Sorry for the late response, and probably not the answer you were wanting to hear. When the boot is tight in the toe box, that will not stretch and will be that tight. A boot stretcher will make the boot wider and possibly give more room in the instep.
@@smackdadious thanks!!!............boot stretcher it is then.
What are the round toe rubber sole boots you show with the worn out insole?
Those are the justin bent rail keaton
What about work boot soles
[my, brand I buy is Red wing made in the usa] 🇺🇸
Get a pair of Chisos boots, in your size, The End!! You won’t regret it!!
For sure, when i get a new pair of boots they are the first on my list
In YHO, what's your favorite brand, roper, or R-toe boot?
I dont really have a favorite brand. There are a lot of boots that I need to try first. Im not big on roper boots, mainly because I like the taller underslung heel. I like j toe or medium round toe best i think
I like your boots
what kind of boots were used in the vid ?
Tecovas, tecovas.sjv.io/e4Y4O1
Old gringo,
Nocona,
Justin
All these have been discontinued and can be found here and there but not in their website the last time I checked
All of them ?
@@gustavomdz17 yep, all except the Tecovas.
The Johnny suede are still being sold. I linked it in the previous comment
The Justins are the bent rail Keaton cognac
The Noconas are the Dallas
And I never got the name for the old gringo caiman print boots
Now you can find them in a store here and there but they stopped selling them online on their website a long time ago. Maybe they changed but I doubt they bring them back
My daddy was the real deal, and he most definitely would've slapped me upside my head for wearing my hat inside the house.
Help solve a family argument 😂 my son, first thing he did with his brand new boots was go wade in the creek! I was raised to think leather & water don’t mix, but nothing would change his mind because his FFA girlfriend said this was the best way to break them in. I’ll admit if I’m wrong but I’ll sure be pissed if he just ruined his $200 boots 😳
yes and no. I wouldn't do it on purpose. they will survive but Id let them dry out.
What brand is the light round/j toe pair of boots?
The light brown j toe boots that have the rubber sole are Justin's
The medium round light brown are Noconas, the suede are Tecovas. And the dark brown are old gringo by cavenders
I’ll be moving to Oklahoma soon there’s a tecovas shop should I just go there to get boots? Also what jeans should I wear with boots. I always struggle with jeans because I’m 5’5 and the length is always too long
im sure there are a bunch of great boot shops up there but yeah I like tecovas boots. I wear wrangler jeans. mostly cowboy cut or retro strait cut. if they are too long get a shorter inseam size. there is waist and inseam sizes when you buy jeans and they have different sizes
6:20: what brand is that boot? The print looks nicer than many I’ve seen
Thats an Old Gringo boot. One of cavenders old brands. Yeah it is a nice print
What type of boot should I get for walking in cow pies and stuff I'm looking to step away from my cheap rubber boots
i guess some work boots from like justin, red wing, ariat or someother brand.
i walk in cow patties with jordans but that is just me
What are the first pair of boots you show in this video? They are awesome.
they are the Nocona's Dallas boot
@@smackdadious cool. I like j toe boots better. Most boots are square toe these days. The second pair with the hybrid outsole are sweet too.
@@doozer3297 yeah man, medium round and the j toe are my favorite. I might get a snip toe for an exotic like a alligator or rattlesnake but that is about it. The second pair of boots are Justin bent rail Keaton konnic boots. I probably botched the spelling. been a while since I bought them lol. I got them because I wanted a rubber sole boot that a cobbler could repair. It is actually mostly rubber, just has a really cool inlay of a different rubber.
@@smackdadious so the keatons can be re soled? If so I might grab them. I need some everydayers with a rubber sole but I want to be able to re sole.
@@doozer3297 they should be, judging bythe brass nails in the sole your local cobbler might not be able to get the same sole though. I would talk to a local cobbler or someone who resoles shoes before getting them for that sole purpose. Its been a while since i did my research and asked my local boot repair shop on these and it is always possible i got something wrong and I would hate for you to make a purchase off a faulty recommendation on my end. I made a video on these boots a long time ago. I think it was my first boot related video i did. That might have more information on it, but i dont know how deep i went into the specifics on the boot.
Good video. Thumbs up.
What do you think about the Ariat groundbreaker 10015191?
Im not familiar with that model. I have my eyes on a couple of leather soled Ariats but thats about it right now.
All right cool cool
Will the leather sole get more grip over time
A bit yeah. Once they get all scuffed and scraped up they wont be a smooth and slick
It’s so hard to find everything your looking for in an off the rack thing. Whether it’s boots or anything else you might be looking for.
