Just got a Bailey XX black Tombstone hat. It's a long oval which fits perfectly for my head (7 1/4). I used a steam iron to soften the side brims and curved them straight up with a slight inside curl at the top. Perfect. Very easy to shape and love the Gus crown.

The Gus crown is my hands-down favorite. Unfortunately, I live in Los Angeles county, and am much more of an office puke than a guy who actually gets to step off the sidewalk as often as he'd like. Of necessity, I've learned to steam and shape my own hats... let's just say that I am still "learning." Fortunately, my Stetson felt hats seem to allow me to steam and reshape as needed. In my opinion a cowboy hat is perfect for my western big game hunts. Keeps sun off of your face and back of the neck, while also providing shade when looking through binos and other optics. After trying several on Iv found I prefer a pinched front with a tear drop top.

Good video! Crown shapes can get confusing depending on region. A Gus is also known as a Montana crease. I suggest having a few pictures of your favorite hats to show the hat retailer what you want the shape to look like.
The X is spot on. I know a Stetson 6x is 100% hare fur. A 6x hat is in the $240 dollar range give or take. I don’t know how much beaver is in their higher Xs. When I have looked at custom hats, my first question is “what is the felt composed of at what %. I want to know what I am buying. It’s always good to research on Google, and ask the hat shops about the felt make up.
    Great tips! Keep it up

if you want something that is always water proof and great for humidity they have canvas hats or somethin similar like those explorer hats. but a straw hat could work, maybe a palm leaf but those loose their shape when they get too wet. So if you want a classic look then try a cheap straw to start out with and see how that works. I wouldnt do a wool felt cause you will sweat through that thing. but a fur felt might work but again it might be too humid for that. @smackdadious  3 года назад

Nice, i haven't had a cody james hat before so I cant say on the quality. Im assuming that they have a smaller scale for their x rating based on the prices i looked up the 5x are.
If it fits good, feels good, if it aint falling apart, and you think it looks good, Then its a good hat i suppose would be my answer. I know there is sometimes buyers remorse when I buy something pricey, I always look too deep into it because I love quality for the purchase price if that makes sense. @@UFOsAreCool apparently cotton oilskin is very resistant to water. American hat co has some of the only waterproof straw hats. Leather might work too.
