    RECIPE
    Serves 12 | Calories 77 | Fat 0g | Protein 1g | Carbs 18g |
    Sugar 18g | Sodium 19mg
    4 Egg Whites
    125g | 1 Cup Icing Sugar
    110g | 1/2 Cup Caster Sugar
    3ml | 1/2 Teaspoon Vinegar
    5ml | 1 Teaspoon Peppermint Essence
    3ml | 1/2 Teaspoon Green Food Colouring
    Directions
Separate the eggs, placing the whites into a medium sized mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer or a stand mixer to beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. In a separate mixing bowl whisk together the icing sugar and caster sugar. Add a spoonful of sugar to the egg whites at a time, beating between each addition until the sugar has disappeared. Add the liquid ingredients and beat until everything is well combined. Spoon the meringue into a piping bag with a star nozzle and pipe Christmas tree shapes onto a baking sheet. Bake in 130C oven or a 260F oven for 2 and a half hours. Leave the meringue too cool in the oven for a further hour. Serve as they are or add a chocolate star on top.

Hi there! So I followed the recipe exactly but the completed meringue mixture was so heavy it could not form a structure. When I piped out the mixture it all just melted into a meringue blob on the baking parchment. Any idea why this might occur?

+Veronica Martinez If you are using an electric mixer it should only take a few minutes. By hand it takes quite a bit longer 😊

+EM DRAY It's best to use vinegar. The recipe is listed in the information box as well as on my website 😊

You don't absolutely HAVE to, if it kinda scares you like it does me. I do this without and it's basically the same.

    • @recipesbycarina
      @recipesbycarina  8 лет назад

+Bemybrowneyedgirl The vinegar acts as a stabiliser, so it just makes sure your egg whites don't fall when baking. You can leave the vinegar out but it's much more prone to failing if you do

Can you use meringue powder instead of eggs?

  • @marylisajones1

It really doesn't take "hours" to whip by hand... Perhaps a few min longer when hand whisked with a balloon whisk
