Whoa, nice! This is one of those special ones, where you walk into the shop, have the technician looking curiously over your shoulder at the car that bit him, keep silent, crank the car, watch, walk around, swap the relay, get back in, start the car, say "Fixed!" and walk away in silence, just to watch everyone in the shop lose their freaking minds. LOL
This is reminiscent of being a dealer tech back in the 80's & 90's. A 1988 Ford Aerostar (for instance) would pull up in the service drive with a whining, light moaning sound, & I would elbow the tech standing nearby & say "that thing needs a stator, the WYE connection is burned up". & of course that's what fixed it. Another pattern failure would be an "a/c not cold" complaint. Verified good static system pressures, then locate & tap the a/c relay & the compressor would kick on & blow cold. I replaced a lot of Ford a/c relays in my days. (& don't get me started on spring-lock coupling orings!) Ahh, so many pattern failures, so little memory. It's hell gettin' old. Thanks for the great video!
Out of all the videos on RUclips your video was the helpful it's and got right to the point I just want to tell you thank you and keep doing a great job
there was a voluntary recall on these relays dec. 2010. NTB10-137 and 137b. the relay is cheap, i just bought it and replaced it before any trouble, did not want the dealer touching anything electrical.
You are incredible and many are gonna be blessed by your inginuity, as for me you just got a new subscriber and possibly a new student of your teaching. 👍🏿👍🏾

On some Nissan models that relay was recalled. Check your VIN's and TSB's for the information. The part number for the relay is in the recall bulletin. Have replaced many at the dealership for free.
The ECU relay suddenly decides to be a flasher relay after so many hours ... 😂 Thanks for yet ANOTHER great tip! You could write a book of all your tips, and probably retire next year.👍 👍 😎
Appreciate it Keith. I'll have to pull up a diagram and learn about these, but first impression is weak contacts, bouncing in time with cranking cadence/injection/ignition events?
Excellent, thanks for the quickie guy. Nice jump pack BTW, I got the exact same one, it has a great warranty, reasonably priced, and they hold charge really well.
Nope , it does the typical spray and pray Nissan routine just like when timing is off. Except it does it multiple times as the ecm goes offline and online again.
@@SouthMainAuto you betcha . Unless of course it has some ridiculous low data refresh, in which case you may see engine rpm get wonky . But I haven't seen that yet
Recall bulletin says oxidized relay contacts. And schematic shows that this relay runs not only the ECM, but also the ignition coils (x 6) + supply, and several solenoids like the intake timing control solenoid (x 2), and the throttle control actuator etc. So presumably in the condition of this video, with key on engine off, the voltage drop across the relay contacts is low enough to run the ECM. But turn the key, the ECM starts to command other stuff that draws current through the same relay contacts, and now the larger voltage drop results in not enough voltage to run the ECM. (... ECM switches off, shutting down the loads... presto, now there's less voltage drop, ECM powers up again, rinse and repeat.)
@@NewLevelAuto great questions eric .... some times it is nothing but i have seen this hundreds of times that takes you right to the problem .... thanks kieth for all you do

Great video thanks brother. That is quick and to the point. Pretty dang interesting a relay. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
I know that Freightliner Simi trucks will use two or three relays just for the communication port. Found that out the hard way. I do like the way you show us and explain to us your process. I am learning more from you every video. Thanks brother
New Level 2011 Pathfinder Silver edition 178k, difficult starting check engine light comes on solid does not flash, VDC/OFF SLP lights are also on. Eventually starts but you have to crank it. Plugs and coil packs have been changed in the last year.Thoughts?

My pathfinder 2008 4.0l not starting anymore , and the scanner doesn't see the ECU . the result is ( ECU not equipped) check engine light doesn't light even with ignition switch on. Fuses and relays all of them are good, power and ground on ECU are in good condition. Do you think that the ECU have been died ?
Hi! What about if the car is diesel engine 2.5turbo diesel and no diesel injector pulse. Also there is no fault in the system. Cam & crank sensor replaced, engine ecu replaced and still no progress?

After some squirming and prodding, eventually let in on the secret that it was a bad defog relay.... ;)
1 hit: $5. Knowing where to hit: $145. Nicely done, sir.
A tremendous level of practical knowledge. THanks so much for sharing.

Ecm relay is different than defogger relay that defogger relay will not last for long time, the one for ecu it has x mark on it

Keith i got a 2006 nissan pathfinder it wont start i put a new starter on it could it just be the relay switch wont let it start
I have a trouble starting my nissan pathfinder 2006 can be the same problem since I just change the start and alternator ?
We had one of these towed into the shop this week. Unfortunately a fix wasn't in order. It was totaled in a wreck.
Darn. Usually easy money on Nissan
Will this cause one of the power feeds to the PCM to flicker in the same way the CEL did?
Gotta keep the engine running so the trans fluid has plenty of time to mix with the coolant when that seal breaks down.
☝️🤣👍
I remember years back, Nissan (AND Honda) had dramas with relays... Wonder if this is one of those or one of the 'new gen' replacements?! 🤔
