The British DON'T hate the Irish. A few probably do but most people like them fine. I don't know why so many people think this.

The Isle of Man is not part of the UK, nor is it an overseas territory. It is mostly legislatively independent, however the UK is responsible for defence and the people there are British citizens. It's in a special category (along with Jersey and Guernsey) called crown dependencies.

Some shops in the North used to take euros but since BREXIT its harder to find places that do so yeah, you have to change currency.

Or if you regularly to between the two have a bit of both on you, or just use a card, who uses cash that much now anyway?

  • @KernowWarrior
    @KernowWarrior 2 года назад +3

I live in Ireland and would pop up north regularly (before "The event") most larger shops would accept Euros and in some cases the price is displayed in both £ and €. For anyone in the South who lives close enough, nipping across the border to do your shopping can save you a fortune especially on drink. The amount of Irish reg cars in a supermarket car park in the north around Christmas vastly outnumber the NI cars. Not surprising considering the savings, for me to drive to the North would be offset by the saving I would make on just buying 2 bottles of whiskey. Although the shops take both, they fix the exchange rate, so the € price is usually higher than if you walked to the cash point and withdrew the cash at the banks rate of exchange.

The objective of the game is for players to use a wooden (ash) stick called a hurley (in Irish a camán, pronounced /ˈkæmən/ or /kəˈmɔːn/) to hit a small ball called a sliotar /ˈʃlɪtər/ between the opponents' goalposts either over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The sliotar can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air, or struck on the ground with the hurley. It can be kicked, or slapped with an open hand (the hand pass) for short-range passing. A player who wants to carry the ball for more than four steps has to bounce or balance the sliotar on the end of the stick, and the ball can only be handled twice while in the player’s possession.
Provided that a player has at least one foot on the ground, a player may make a shoulder-to-shoulder charge on an opponent who is in possession of the ball or is playing the ball or when both players are moving in the direction of the ball to play it.
No protective padding is worn by players. A plastic protective helmet with a faceguard is mandatory for all age groups, including senior level, as of 2010. The game has been described as "a bastion of humility", with player names absent from jerseys and a player's number decided by his position on the field.

Catholics in Northern Ireland were denied a lot of employment and political rights that lead to big civil rights movements in 1968/9. Eventually 'The Troubles' would start in 69 and be with us officially until 98.

Seans Bar , the oldest pub in the world, I live about half hour drive away. It has documentation dating it as a continued drinking establishment going back to 900AD. When you look at the position you can see why some entrepreneur built it there, it would be the only reasonably easy crossing place on the Shannon for 60 miles either direction (wide but shallow). In all recorded history since then, there has always been a pub on that site.

So if you want to see a castle, go to (1) Trim Castle, Ireland; (2) Pierrefonds, France; (3) Caernarfon Castle, Wales; (4) Blarney Castle, Ireland; (5) Bunratty Castle, Ireland; (6) Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany…..
Visit all of these castles. I’ve been to all of them. You won’t be disappointed.

I am not sure about currency between Ireland and Northern Ireland, but some places in London accept Euros, so I'm guessing that there is some intermixing of currency, but it would only be in very select stores, I'm guessing most people just carry around both currencies if they are hopping the border a lot.
ALTHOUGH, using coins and notes is dying very very fast in europe and asia. America seems to be lagging behind, we use Google/Apple Pay/Wechat Pay or even our contactless Bank cards for everything now, I only use physical money when I am given it.

We have a castle close to where I live in Wales, unfortunately it's now ruins as it was left to rot 300 years ago, which is a shame as it Norman and dates back to 1175 and was in use until around 300 years ago.
Yes the Giants Causeway is natural it is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption.

Connor means "small deer" in Irish.
McJibbin is not a thing but I'm guessing it's either McGibbon or Fitzgibbon.
It's Norman either way and there's loads of them up in County Mayo.
And Mayo has nothing to do with the condiment.
It has something to do with Yew trees...
I'll have to go google it as I can't remember.

If you have a very similar name to Connor McGregor then it's likely your ancestors were from Ulster and that you may have Scottish roots further back. I can understand you not wanting to give away for full name but I'd love to know more about where you are from, where your family was from and all that jazz (obviously not going into details but in a wider sense of things). I'm currently doing some family history genealogy from a DNA test I've recently done on my Northern Irish grandpa and obviously a lot of matches are from the US, although very distant so I find this topic very interesting. Other than that great video. Love how you occasionally pause the video and look things up, but I wish you wouldn't pause and replay quite so much as you do, but that's a very minor criticism.
