I had an idea to actually make the cane sword useful, and that is give it the abilty to be infused with the unsheathe AOW. Think about it, cane swords depicted in media are hidden in canes and can be "sheathed" back into its handle as a way to conceal. Imagine being able to have one of the best katana ashes of war on a straight sword. It would give it way more variety and make the sword stand out finally from the competition at least with that gimmick.
That would actually be extremely cool. I'd use the cane for a themed build if it could do that. From really needs to stop doing this thing where they add weapons that are literally completely pointless (in the case of the cane, both physically and mechanically.) There is no possible design benefit whatsoever from intentionally making a weapon objectively inferior in literally every single way to an otherwise mechanically identical equivalent. They need _something_ special about them, even if it's not very good. I'm not saying every weapon needs to be "good," it just irritates me when they have _literally_ nothing to justify their existence in the game.
my called shot for the DLC is a straight sword with innate bleed, seems odd that all of Kirk’s other stuff made it over except the barbed straight sword
I'll make a call too: a straight sword unique with DS3 Valorheart moveset. It has such a cool two handed unique sword and shield stance but it had such poor scaling in DS3, nobody used it as it was not even good for PVE either. I'd love to see it revived in ER with a good buff to it. Too cool to be left in DS3 in that state.
@alpha00zero I slightly beg to differ only because I love using the valorheart! While the scaling sucks, the varied moveset makes it a little unpredictable, and the shield isn't *too* bad in a pinch. My buddy and I have regular duels every now and then throughout the years after we both finished it and I love using it against him 😆
On my first playthrough I was almost certain that the Warhawk's Talon was a guaranteed drop from the birds, becuase i had 9 of them after finishing Stormveil.
@@Oliver-Thyella Yup. 9 (nine). And i didnt even die that much, i think I only needed to kill all the birds 3-4 times in total. And even on my recent playthrough i got 2 of them just while killing the birds in the first, outside area (just past Gostoc and the hole in the wall), but it sems entirely random and sometimes weirdly favorizing certain characters, as when I actually wanted those for a build on another character i had to sit there and farm them for over an hour.
I played Elden Ring on release and my first character dual wielded quality lordsworns, I was hyped to know you could dual wield in this game but disappointed with the straight sword weapon class as they felt very underpowered at release but now they seen perfectly viable, might try a new character with sword and board fighting style in the future
Thank you for making these videos. I had no idea the Warhawk's Talon existed. I got two of them, slapped Bloody Slash on them like you did, and now I'm having a blast with them.
A lot of people dont understand the subtle differences between all the weapons in a given class. This is good content, especially for new players. Your analysis of the weapons are pretty much spot on Edit: Actually, you can make a VERY good rot build with double rotten crystal swords, but only for invasions. In duels, they just end too quickly. But in invasions there is a lot more healing and eating R1s on rhe part of the host and summons. Fights last longer, and rot with those swords will help chip away at them and apply lots of pressure. If you use double rotted crystal swords and combine that with the 3 shot crossbow with rot bolts, you will proc rot very very consistently even at level 168 and it's a lot of fun. I did a demonstration a long time ago. The benefit of those swords is that there is no need to buff.
id like to inform you that the ornamental ss actually has a unique two handed heavy jump attack, being the powerstanced straight sword jump attack, whie the ornamental jumping light is that of paired thrusting swords
If you didn't know using the lazuli and the carian straight swords together the heavy uses both swords to block as heavy. You should do a full pvp build based around dual stancing them!
Warhawk's Talon was my weapon for the first playthrought, I was swaping between power stancing it and using the godslayer greatsword, it was great even on the first month of the game.
You can have a different offhand straightsword and use gold tempering with the ornamental straight sword and you can still get the unique heavy moveset but with a better scaling second weapon and you get to keep the original jumping light attack which is better for pvp
My favourite: 1. Carian Knight Sword. The 1H R2 is just so good at rollcatching and breaking poise plus it works great with spells despite mediocre int scaling. I rarely go for a block while attacking but it is one of the most satisfying things to land in the game 2. Coded Sword. My main and only weapon on my INT+FTH build, cause it has no str/dex requirements so I can use all my points into stats that matter on this build. It works great with some swordceries, explosive ghostflame and briars of sin for a hyperarmor when needed. And I like the looks of it as well as the weapon skill. 3. Warhawk Talon. Love the R2, that's it.
Basically it was what miquella created in his quest to help godwyn the golden out of his soulless state and return him to greatness with the big eclipse he was trying to do at castle sol. This was created to defeat undead specifically
16:21 I did a quick rot and poison damage check against NG+7 Grayoll, the Rotten Crystal Sword has totally normal rot doing ~22K damage, same as all the other rot weapons, for reference poison and deadly poison can do ~6K damage.
For when you do all spears, might I recommend the Pike with Spinning Strikes? Longest weapon in the game + super fast spammable 360 degree moves is just straight up goofy, play unlocked for the most fun :)
Square Off is an amazing Ash of War. I used a Keen straight sword that's buffed with a weapon incantation during my playthrough, it does absurd damage. Rivals, if not beats, all my other playthrough builds that have bigger, meatier weapons.
The Glintstone Pebble Ash of War is very good. Maybe not as good on Lazuli Sword. But it was so good they nerfed it a while back. It would stop Rivers of Blood
20:28 Fun fact: You *don't* have to be powerstancing/twohanding the Ornamental Straight Sword to get the rapid poke heavy attack. Once it's buffed with the ash of war, you will do it even when onehanding it.
Weathered Straight Sword has the lowest stamina consumption per swing of the Straight Swords (didn't check if it was better than Shortsword, or tied, but has slightly better AR and reach than Shortsword) So a build to try with it that may only be viable in PvE is powerstanced straight swords with blood affinity. Seppuku on the left sword, repeating thrust or another multi-hit AoW on the right. White Mask, and naked for the rest. Blue Dancer Charm, Winged Sword Insignia, Millicent's Prosthesis, and Lord of Blood's Exultation. Once you start with Seppuku, you have +10 from both White Mask and LoBE, and an additional +10 from Blue Dancer. Massive bleed build up just from how quickly you can swing, solid damage output with all the buffs active and the addition once Prosthesis and Winged Sword start building, and the warm satisfaction of melting people with two Weathered Straight Swords. Edit: or for even more lolz, you can throw Barbaric Roar on for the right hand AoW and get that buff and silly stabby R2s.
Every time I'm not using straight swords, I'm thinking things would be better if I were using straight swords. Broadsword is my favorite. I know many don't like the lack of a poke attack, but the heavy swings in such a large arc you can hit people who roll behind you. If you are aggressive with it, it's very hard to avoid.
Gonna be looking out for when testing all Halberds comes out. Even though it is nowhere near meta, the Lucerene has always been the star of my game. I've just gotten so familiar with that weapon that any other weapons, even other halberds, are just a little too slow or fast for my liking.
Lucerne can also be excellent on every infusion, has a good move set that’s fantastic for roll catching, and it does only pierce damage. One of the best halberds for sure
Sad thing abt the Carian Knight's Sword is that the pickable version of the Ash Of War does more dmg on a non enchanted straight sword then the Enchanted Sword version...
Before even watching this regalia of eochaid better be in the top 5 as it is just the dex version of the marais executioner sword which is hands down one of the best weapons in the game without damage buffs from incantations.
the only reason I picked up Elden Ring was because someone told me that the crystal sword looks kinda like the Infinity Blade. I was disappointed when I finally found the sword, but I did end up sinking 150 hours into my first playthrough of the game so I'd say it was worth it. Can't wait for that dlc.
Spent 2 hours farming for a Noble before I finally got one for my spellblade. Then five minutes later another one dropped off the first noblemen I fought in Raya Lucaria Academy, which suddenly turned my build into a power stancing machine
