For those that do not know- poison moth flight basically turns your poison build into a bleed build with some extra steps. When you use it on a poisoned opponent, it will remove teh poison status... and deal all the poison damage all at once instead of over time. So just one big burst of damage before you start again and try to get their status up again. A bit convoluted, but enemies may often ignore the build up since they think it is "just poison".
I’ve played around with poison moth flight and it’s actually pretty nice when used with kindred of rot exultation Cause you can proc the poison, detonate it, then immediately work on procing it a second time and just keep getting the buff back
Some fun facts on some of these weapons: Shamshir is a persian word meaning Lions paw, wich just sounds super badass. The grossmesser and the falchion are basically the same weapon from a historical perspective, falchion is the french term and Grossmesser or just Messer is german for bigknife or just knife sometimes also called Langmesser(longknife) or Kriegsmesser(warknife). The only difference between the falchion and the messers is the way the handle is constructed, if its build like a sword handle its a falchion but when build like a knife with pins through grip, its a Messer. The shotel meanwhile is an african weapon from Abyssinia, modern day Ethiopia.
The funniest thing about Elden Ring’s Shamshir is that it doesn’t look much like the real world Shamshirs, whereas the Bandit’s Curved Sword does look a lot like one, albeit one that’s been buried for half of forever
There's no way that Falchion Stormcaller completely true comboed all its hits like that, right? The opponent just didn't roll out, right? Further testing required. But if that was a real full true combo, that is stupid, and I love it.
The Mantis Blade should have had a few things going for it but they screwed it up. The Cemetary Shades that use it deal blood loss with thiers, yet the obtainable weapon doesn't have bleed. The shade's weapons have a lot of reach and the Mantis blade is the shortest, and even with it's extra reach heavy attacks, it doesn't matter. It just sucks. It's a Nightrider Flail situation- you obtain the weapon, equip it, and you say "that's it?? It's tiny" because when the enemy in question uses it it's enormous compared to the cheap dollar store version you get to have. The mantis blade could have been like the Painting Guardain Sword in Dark Souls. It was the shortest curved sword, but had blood loss, and a fancy moveset kind of like the Flowing Curved sword. And it did a lot of damage and had really good DEX scaling. It had enticing attributes to make up for it's flaws. The Mantis Blade does not. They could have done a lot with it. For starters, blood loss, and making the weapon extend when you use certain ashes of war like Spinning Slash. Or simply scaling the weapon up so it's not tiny. Anything. I hate it when they go far enough to make an enticing idea for a weapon, and then botch the follow-through so bad that it's just a disappointing "what if".
Honestly I noticed a lot of things in elden ring are disappointed "what ifs" black blade weapons not having destined death now. Weapons enemies have but we can't use. The dragon sentinels Weapons not having unique aow. Just a lot honestly. I like to hope they would come back to a lot of these missed opportunities for at least the dlc or maybe some version later down the line like a "mastered edition" where they fill in all the things that should been
One thing I'd like to see in these videos is your opinion on what's the best way to use each weapon: two handed, power stanced or with shield and maybe showcase each one of those playstyles if it doesn't make the video too long
Dual wielding the shotel with the Blaidd’s headpiece and Fia’s robes or Raptor’s black feathers make for a great Death look from Puss in Boots: The Final Wish
Alright, your commentary when it comes to testing these weapons is amazing and I relate to it SO MUCH. You’ve earned yourself a new subscriber, keep it up!
For those curious, the eclipse shotel has a bit of cheese to it, where if you deathblight someone, they remain backstabbable until they dissolve. So you can switch to bare fists and essentially softlock someone by backstabbing them over and over and over until they DC. Do with this what you will.
Watching you use the Serpent Gods Curved Sword reminds me of the video you done months ago on them. Made me giggle thinking of all the people you melted with those beasts.
I had no idea that the heavy attacks threw projectiles out of the wing of Astel, I hear about that weapon allot, I wonder why nobody ever brings that up
People don't bring it up as much because nebula is just that good. I agree it should be brought up more, especially since it doesn't cost fp, but nebula is so strong that it's able to sell the weapon just by itself. Definitely my favorite weapon I've tried so far
this channel is SUPER underrated i love all of your videos and im so happy there’s still fresh content being made for e ring, keep it up man ! much love from south africa
Watching this video made me happy cause it reminded me of my first time playing any souls game (which was ds3) cause i used a dark infused falchion and loved it
If you pair the eclipse shotel with Shriek of Milos it can turn you into a Christmas-tree machine. My friend tested this against me and I’d have to disengage to bolus like every 10 seconds.
I’m getting close to the end of my first ever playthrough at the moment, and I’ve been rocking a pretty fun dual Bloody Scimitar build with Bloody Slash on both. It’s been so fun, the blood loss buildup on those things is no joke with how fast and effective the power stanced curved sword moveset is. Highly recommend for a mostly Dex build with supplementary Arcane!
Some feedback about the overview: Damage and scaling comparisons would be a great addition for those wanting to min-max. (Which would give the best AR for Heavy infusion, so I can two-hand it? Etc) People really like finer details like this, specific interactions and combos, and so on. Also consider showing off the movesets at different camera angles, so it’s easier to have an idea of the weapon’s reach, and to show off its looks. Otherwise this is a nice video and it’d be great to see more showcases. 😊
Dual poison moth flight scavengers has been one of the most fun setups I use in pve. It's bleed with extra steps with the occasional actual bleed proc on the side. Cold scavenger is fun too
For WIng of Astels ash of war I like to unlock and be turned side to the opponent so it actually has better range and catches people that roll towards you. The best non meta weapon in the game by far.
I just got the magma blades today. My god, they melt enemies. Almost immediatly after i used them to kill the 2 Tree Sentinals on the Altis highway, by the big doors, on foot, no cheesing (except for doing them one at a time). Never been able to do that before.
The Grossmesser is my favorite curved sword. It's second longest by a tiny margin, and its high base damage and strength scaling make it hit hard. It's nearly identical to the Bandit's Curved Sword in every stat. And of course, it looks cool
If you hold the heavy attack and backstep curved swords have a swipe roll attack. Its not the best but if you have to roll away at least you do a little chip damage.
The Eclipse Shotel feel like its mainly an anti-shield weapon, it ignores blocking and deals deathblight even through shields. it is theoretically the best counter against turtling.
so there is one more attack that I didn't see thru out the video was is you do a heavy attack but before it goes off hold the dodge button it is only on a few weapons though
Dual magma blades with equal faith strength (not sure which gives more damage) with golden vow flame grant me strength and the flame shrouding tear or fire scorpion charm gives you 1000 damage on each magma blade and a 4 attack hit combo on running l1 or jumping l1 which can be boosted by rotten winged sword insignia and millicents prosthesis and the jumping l1 is boosted by claw talisman and raptors black feathers. This allows you to insta kill any player with a jumping l1 by only applying 2 or 3 buffs.
I have never used any curved sword, and I really feel like I missed out. Partly it is because I assumed they would be best powerstanced, and I don't really like powerstancing, but mostly it's because many of the good ones you don't get unless you farm for them. I really like the look of the Grossmesser.
When talking about pve then yes, powerstancing will be better but you don't lose out THAT much. Especially with quirky weapons like wing of astel that primarily benefits from heavy attacks and aow or the shamshir that's pretty ok on status builds because of the slightly faster moveset and nerf to powerstanced status buildup. I used the wing of astel on my first playthrough to get me through borealis and theodorix and that wasn't even on an int build. You don't have to farm these two either ^^ but yeah the main damage source outside of aow in pve will be the powerstanced running and jumping L1s
Im pretty sure they nerfed the Eclipse Shotel after the Fire’s Deadly Sin exploit was found so maybe in an earlier patch it was more of a valid Death tool
I dont know if anyone knows this but when you do a charge heavy after a running heavy with a curve sword, you get the Dark souls backflip that you get when you left stick + r1.
If the mantis curved sword was either a solid sorce of damage or a normal length sword that became truly LONK on heavies it would be good. Tbh id much prefer the later but I don't think we're ever going to see that. Probably not going to see the former either but still...

this made me love the weapon even more

@@shinobiofashina2168I think the blue cloth set is based off of him as well

14:48 when you give the seal a fresh sardine
😭😭😭😭
Mantis Blade did low damage because the opponent used Black Flame's Protection, significantly reduces physical damage
"...and you charged heavy that subscribe."
-absolutely right hooks the hell out of the phone-

Also the serpent gods sword is kinda reminiscent of the Ram-dao execution swords we have in India
Messers are Messers, Falchions are swords. Very important distinction.

I’m pretty sure they just didn’t roll out, but I hope that isn’t the case lmao
For what i've heard (if it's true), if you hit with the first attack of Stormcaller than you'll hit with all the attacks
I did that a bunch with the claymore and flamberge, stormcaller is fun as hell
Everyone forgets the curved sword feint attacks.
I know you can do those in ds1, how do you do them in Elden Ring?
@@cosmalade I wanna say dodging during a heavy attack triggers it.
Correct@@soulofkyanite8112
Yeah, dodging during a charged heavy does it
Thrusting swords have one too
Specifically just a backstep dodge.
I will say the parry with the curved sword doesn’t really look like a parry so someone could not notice you trying to land one

A shame you have to farm for them from one of the most annoying enemies
At least their side-to-side shimmy looks goofy
If you think about it, the wing of astel is the longest curved sword then. In terms of heavy attack
Nox flowing sword has a follow up to its ash. After it whips you can do it again and it’ll extend outward like a thrusting sword

The Mantis Blade is straight out of Bloodborne
Yo could we get a Halberd video when you next plan to do one?

Idea for mantis blade: Make it somber and the AOW is expanding it. At least that way you have more than one option for a longer ranged attack.
I feel like mantis blade should have been one of those unique somber weapons with a locked ash of war that took advantage of the blade extending
Like even if it was a dragon halberd situation where you wouldn’t know a basic ash of war had an extra secret effect unless you used it or read the ash of war for some reason
I am officially crowning monk as the rusty of PVP.
Did you know you could actually do a retreating slash with curved swords and rapiers by pressing circle while charging an R2?
"Have you seen those warriors from Hammerfell? They have curved swords! Curved... Swords!" 😉
The fact that blight being the coolest status, only applies to tarnished, sucks.
I'm still gonna use the Eclipse Shotel anyway.
I don’t know why people say you’ll kill your opponent before proccing deathblight with the eclipse shotel as if that’s a bad thing
Like I know you want to hit that status effect but it’s either death by sword or death by blight it doesn’t exactly make too much of a difference besides like
Invasions
Cause In invasions n stuff there’s healing so they can heal the damage but probably not the deathblight at the same time
Idk
That statement about the eclipse shotel has always bewildered me
It’s death or death why is killing by damage instead of status a negative to people
It’s not always about status
I mean like look at hand of malenia, it inflicts bleed but the fact it does is the lynchpin in nobody’s build
Or like most strength builds
Unless it’s the rare status strength build you’re not going to see hardly any elemental stuff besides like fire
Strength and fire go together alot
Do you know about holding the dodge button and doing charged attack does something nifty
Spears next
I’d have to admit I’ve never used a single ungreat-curved sword
Mm.. satisfying
The curves of all time!
A trick weapon outside of Bloodborne!!
Opponent flails around doing pretty much nothing until they die…
Good fight! 👍
