Dr.Ambedkar stands unique and tall among our founding fathers. The other stalwarts like Gandhi, Nehru, Patel et al came from similar (not the same) ideological and political camps, but Dr.Ambedkar, as mentioned, was an original thinker, undoubtedly, influenced by his social identity. His views, hence, are in stark contrast to the majority be it political, social or historical, the centre piece being his vehement opposition to caste and it's deep roots in our socio-economic life and the plight of the Dalits and those in lower rungs of social ladder.
It is hence appalling that the PM, for obvious political reasons, publicly holding Babasaheb as an influence. Mr. Modi and his party's views are infamously clear - one that's solidly rooted on majoritarianism - one that is plucked from the fascist playbooks and played successfully by autocrats across the world, current example being Mr.Erdogan in Turkey.
Without an iota of doubt one can say that the BJP doesn't sympathize with any of his views out of sincerity but only for political mileage - mobilizing the Dalits as a vote bank who holds Babasaheb in esteem. And this mockery of Indias prodigal son, after that of Sardar Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Swami Vivekanand among others is unsurprising as a mere means to an end - to aid the electoral machine in sustaining and solidifying power.
All one can truly say is NaMo🙏

You are right on this point. But there are many deep rooted casteism, class differentiation still exists in Hindu society and all parties including congress used appeasement policies, to continue in power differently in different states. See...
No person of lower caste is ready to lose caste identity or reservation given in the name of caste for jobs or selection procedures in various institutions in india because of the benefits they receive from state.
Still many people believe that caste is the only reason people are not respected or supported. There are number of reasons for identifying people in any society.
Color, jobs, positions, financial status, power, and so many multi factors.
Congress supported all nonsense when they were in power. But now they are in a point of no return, panicked, confused, trying to fix the image through various media finding new definitons from history and trying to come back to power or in main stream politics.
This is not going to be listened by majority since majority speaks all local language other than English.

On the language issue Ambedkar was very right as well, English although a foreign language to the land what is today India and the regions nearby, also the language of the colonizers, has proven to be great advantage to Indians when competing internationally, also nationally it has been the qreat equalizer among states and their own languages...
It should be left out to the states to decide which languages they want to develop and work on...and center should have no business deciding all this, Hindi as any other Indian language is an equal, it cannot get more or less importance than other languages...

Common language is more powerful than nationalism, or may be complementary to each other to sustain. Great countries like China, usa could sustain in time and create trust and wealth by accepting a common language. India trying imposing a regional language on entire country wound invite grief and fission in the soul nationally of Indians.

      1) Mother tongue

      3) Hindi(in south) and some south Indian language(in north)
As a south Indian I wouldn't mind learning Hindi, I only oppose it's forceful imposition on south Indians which not only infantilizes our local languages but also mocks the federal spirit of the Indian union.

A very interesting discussion between two great intellectuals who understand the country and its problems. India was fortunate to have a person of Ambedkar's intellect and calibre to be at hand when the country was required to draft a constitution. Besides being a legal luminary and intellectual par excellence, he knew the Indian society and its strength and weaknesses in and out by his personal experience. Our leaders must study Ambedkar with an open mind and should formulate policies where every one would feel comfortable. Ours is still an evolving society and giving undue accent to caste, community, language etc. can only retard our social progress. Ultimately our real aim should be to create a modern society where caste and would obviously take the back stage.

Hinduism is said to divide people and in contrast, Islam is said to bind people together. This is only a half-truth. For Islam divides as inexorably as it binds. Islam is a close corporation and the distinction that it makes between Muslims and non-Muslims is a very real, very positive and very alienating distinction. The brotherhood of Islam is not the universal brotherhood of man. It is a brotherhood of Muslims for Muslims only. There is a fraternity, but its benefit is confined to those within that corporation. For those who are outside the corporation, there is nothing but contempt and enmity,” BR Ambedkar wrote in ‘Pakistan or Partition of India’.

But what they cunningly hide from us is the fact that Ambedkar rather preferred a separate pakistan for muslims than an unified hindutva dominated hindustan in which the muslims were suppose to exist as third rate citizens at the mercy of the very casteist oppressing castes hindus who did not even ascribe the status of humans to bahujans and women who comprised more than 85% of their very own religion. The present overtly casteist-communal bjp govt is bent upon proving Ambedkar was right in his understanding of hindutva and its narrow minded oppressing castes votaries who shamelessly rejoice upon Sunak’s selection as UK’s PM but sneer at the italian roots of Sonia Gandhi …

    1. Christian states were against Jews. India accommodated them as family.
    2. Look at islamic states like Iraq and Afganiatan. Also Iran where Hijab protests are taking place. And they also criticize Saudi Prince's Liberal stance and his regard for Female rights like driving.
    3. Myanmar's Buddhist mojoritarian government and Sri Lanka's majoritarian Rajapaksha government killed minorities(Tamil Hindus).
I can go on and on
But still I believe Hindus have accommodated a liberal mindset.
Speaking of caste system it is based on Karma(action or work) and not Birth.
Me and my two friends had a chemistry tuition teacher in 12th and we still touch his feet whenever we meet and we knew he was from ST. But we regarded him as our guru.
Somewhere down the line Hindus fell into the British idea of caste system. Which was just to please Maharajas I think. That's why when we were in our golden era or even during Muslim rule we didn't hear much about upper-lower caste. And thus rich upper caste were also taught this in british education system. Divide and Rule strategy.
But now we're coming out of that.
I can understand Ambedkar ji's mindset after being exposed to such misguided society but still he was someone who just wanted equality and not any caste's rule over other.
We have a 'lok devta' (human regarded as god) named Baba Ramdev in Rajasthan who introduced 'Jamha Jagran' which is like a function for people for all walks of life which spread message of equality. He was a Hindu Kshatriya King and believed in Equality and Justice, we Still celebrate a huge Baba Ramdev mela (fair) where where devotees from all strata of society do miles of foot march towards his resting place and People provide 'seva' to them during their journey.
Real education and such Ideas of Equality can change a society.
Can't say about marriages, Parents decide that in India be it any caste or religion 😐

Well Mr. Ambedkar by his speech clearly had views against Hinduism.
But, we must also read his view many a times in support of Hindus. If we read his journey, we see many times ambedkar had tried to reform the Hinduism with other Hindu reformers.but, was opposed by orthodox at that time. However, he was not willing to leave Hindusim in the first place but was hopeful for a change in the thinking of Hindu society. and unfortunately at the end he gave up for reforms in Hinduism and converted to Buddism.
He was also pursed by jinnah to convert into Islam but his views were also against Islam.(people should also read his views on Islam because we should not allow one sided anti-hindu arguments to let decidethat Hindusim was only opposed and others were good.)
Note: I am not against any religion.but I tend to often see media only showing Ambedkars views which were Anti-Hindu and not the other one. As a student of history I can say because at that time the Hindu society was not ready to change due to orthodox views of contemporary times Ambedkar was hurt and had such strong words because of his anger at that time. (But it was not his fault).
However, we are in 21st century were we see changes in many ways in the every society and Hindus and dalits being friends and relatives of each other. And I can say that Hindu society also have realized fault line in Hinduism and changes are taking place.
No doubt if ambedkar had seen such reforms at his times. He probably would have been the most happiest person. because reforms in Hindu society was the thing which he was unable to do.
The fact is things like this do take times to change. Because not an individual but whole society is changing.
Probably he could also had supported BJP in Hindu society reforms movement who knows what had happened.

Sashi tharoor supports Hinduism and ambedkar. If that is not contradictory, what bjp is doing is also not contradictory. Actually Hindu nationalists advocates for neo- Hinduism or revivalistic Hinduism. And they consider Buddhism as a part of it. Revivalistic Hindu traditions wear saffron, they are against caste and more organized. So acc. to them Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Arya samaj etc are revivalistic traditions. And they support Ambedkar in the act against caste inequality and they didn't agree with him in attacking Hinduism as a whole. But they ignore it bcz they know what made ambedkar say that and it should be taken in that sense. One thing should be noted - bjp will accept Ambedkar ( bcz he was a Buddhist and thus hindu) but will never accept periyar.

I agree with you Samuel. But I found it amusing that Shashi Tharoor was all praise for Ambedkar's condemnation of Bhakts in politics but forgetting the fact that he, Shashi Tharoor himself is a member of Congress party which comprise of so many blind Bhakts of Gandhi family so much so that they I clyding Shashi Tharoor is ready to accept Rahul Gandhi as his leader even though we all know that Rahul has hardly any political experience or qualities to be a leader as compared to Shashi Tharoor or many other non Gandhi leaders in Congress. So we have the highest form of political bhakti still being practiced in Congress by all congressmen including Shashi tharoor himself.

It diminishes Ambedkar’s position to say he had a deep dislike for Hinduism. Anyone who reads his magnum opus-The Annihilation of Caste- cannot but understand that his quest for the annihilation of caste meant the annihilation of the Hindu scriptures, since they form the basis of Hindu beliefs and practices that have sustained caste in India.
