A year or so ago the YT algorithm recommended Glarses to me. I was just taking my first steps into my woodworking hobby. I already had a cheap mechanical from amazon (Royal Kludge S108) because clicky and nostalgia over childhood school computers (1990's IBM's). Recently I ordered new key caps as the ones that come on the RK S108 are these flat rounded type writer style. Nothing wrong with that except that they are bordered with a plastic chrome ring that will crack and fall off. New caps helped improve the sound but at that point it was too late. I had ordered a keyboard with little to no research, just wanted a tkl for more desk space and a hotswap pcb. I'm waiting on a massive switch swatch (what I call it now thanks to my wife reminding me about make up testing) and ceramic key caps. Then I'll probably place an order for switches, maybe some new stabs and lube. I'm succumbing to the thock rapidly.
I bought a pre-made keyboard and chose brown for fun. That was my first time trying out stock gateron browns and it was terrible. My main driver uses Durock T1s so the gateron browns were a shock, almost linear with like a bump the size of a grain of sand.
I actually really like my Cherry silent red. It's good for a budget board that won't sound good using the regular enthusiast grade switches, as the case will really hurt the sound profile. Having that silencing property and some additional lube make them feel and sound alright. Definitely going to step up to a full custom board later though, but that cost money that I can't really just throw around. The thock will have to wait, though it will be worth it.

Love the channel! Actually just bought a Keycron C1 because of you. As a 20+ year programmer I'm just now getting into the custom keyboard market. The real issue for me is "where can I find switched to touch and test?" That's the main issue for those getting into the "hobby" and kept me from starting for so long. I finally decided to just buy one and start figuring it out for myself. Your reviews and information are outstanding but a sound test through crappy internet audio doesn't really help me get a feel for those keycaps and switches. So until these components become more common and I can go to Best Buy and try everything out I think the market is going to as scattered as you mentioned. Give it about 5 years and the big companies will take notice and start having those kiosks at Best Buy and it will really explode.
In the same boat of been programming for about forever and just recently getting into more custom of a keyboard besides a Rosewill cherry mx blue special that I had for 8+ years. I recently got a ducky x varmilo with cherry mx clears for work after trying a keytester for the switch type, trying someone else's ducky for build quality, and suggestions given by Betty and others. My next jump will definitely be down the rabbit hole as I'm looking into hotswap to try different switch types.
@@chriswheatley3146 Yeah I chose the hot swapable keyboard so i could play around with different switches. I didn't want to get "locked down" with one kind and then find out I didn't like them. Too expensive to buy a whole new board for new switches IMHO.
I just got my first mech-keeb. The other times I used a program that simulated the sounds of mechs. I can officially say that this is a luxury that everyone should have.
I feel like the split between linear and tactile lovers gets a little weird when "Cherry MX Brown" is the most popular tactile...like that could almost just be a an extra scratchy linear with its tactility. Feel like some of the tactile love might actually be "dry linear" love lol
I really believe 65% layouts are the way of the future for 90% of consumers. I think as these smaller custom keyboard companies become more prevalent our ability to get custom parts will become much more consumer friendly. I don’t think the large companies will be able to keep up which is unfortunate but at this level of customization it’s not necessarily a bad thing either. Edit: Tactile gang (Boba U4T)
It's probably still worth nothing that this is still a rather small sample size skewed towards modern keyboard enthusiasts. I know I'm a rather peculiar minority who may be into building lubed MX keyboards on the side but ultimately still daily drive on a Unicomp Model M full size with the huge bezels. Full size and vintage clicky AF are still king for me, and I know that there's a substantial number of people into vintage keyboards who predominantly like clicky full sizes too, who just don't engage with this side of the hobby. I think there needs to be more interaction to get a real balance of what enthusiasts would like to see from mainstream companies.
I will always love Cherry MX Brown and probably always choose to use it because I never get tired of them, but every so often a nice sharp MX Blue has the perfect click

I have brown switches on my keyboard but I just got a switch tester and realized i absolutely *love* the clicky switches. Now I'm so sad I didn't get blues.
Thinking of getting the GMMK Pro and modding it with the Panda switches. I stay in India and it takes light years for cool stuff to reach shelves here..so let's hope for the best!
I'm not specifically a computer keyboard enthusiast, but RUclips recommended me your video after I watched some of your reviews. I just need a keyboard that feels oddly satisfying for when I go to write stuff like video scripts and fiction books, but this video allows me to peek into the computer keyboard enthusiast community. (0:43) I won't be surprised if someone tried to buy a keyboard at Bunnings. (1:00) That's just how I feel about book Kickstarter/Indiegogo/Ulule campaigns! I back so many book campaigns, and then book packages start showing up my doorstep, and then I check the sender address and remember where they came from. (1:15) I never use lubed and filmed switches. (1:45) $20k feels like the amount I spend on children's books, but it's really more like $2k on tech and $1k on children's books because I try to limit myself, oh, and that includes subscription fees for various services I use. (2:24) As someone who tends to gravitate towards stuff that aren't popular, such as book series that aren't popular enough for bookshop chains outside of the author's home country don't sell them, I feel weird for having full-sized keyboards, but then again, I do actually use most of the keys! I need a full-sized keyboard for my workstation with the software I run on it, but I can use smaller keyboard layouts on auxiliary systems, laptops, and tablets. (4:54) For the same reasons, I'm happy to use clicky switches that have high activation forces! I'm a heavy typed and tend to hammer away when typing, so much so that the keyboard on my laptop has recently began failing intermittently. (5:48) No custom full-sized mechanical keyboard exists, so I instead have to take an off-the-shelf keyboard, usually one designed for gaming, then modify it, changing the switches out for Kailh BOX Navy, and changing the keycaps to something that looks vintage, like the Drop MT3 3277 keycap set I currently have on order as of posting this comment. I currently use a modified CM Storm QuickFire XT with those switches, and eventually those custom keycaps and a 'Ghost Squid' board if I can find one. If anyone knows of a custom full-size kit that I had never heard of, let me know.
I'm surprised silvers aren't more popular. I've used blues, reds, browns, and just got a keyboard with silvers in it and the lower travel distance is really nice.

4:58 we the clicky gang are the elite order of the tactile gang, so tactile wins linear.
I just got my first mech-keeb. The other times I used a program that simulated the sounds of mechs. I can officially say that this is a luxury that everyone should have.
Brown swithes are too powerful, I'm surprised they haven't been banned yet.
i got 2 keyboards 1 is membraine and 1 is with outemu blues my keyboards are trash i am poor i love your vids thank you for keeping me entertained!
I feel like the split between linear and tactile lovers gets a little weird when "Cherry MX Brown" is the most popular tactile...like that could almost just be a an extra scratchy linear with its tactility. Feel like some of the tactile love might actually be "dry linear" love lol
I remember you were a bit not that laid back when making videos. Now i am back to this channel, you sure did change lol! Awesome channel nevertheless
"what do you need omore than on keyboard for?"
What do you think, don't we have more than one pc?
Absolutely loved the comedic touch 😂 thank you!
What are your thoughts on outemu switches?
I like them
As someone who is currently using a outemu red switch. They're not that bad
Each video is getting better and better, I remember when it was only about 2k subscribers, next thing you know it's gonna be 1M..
Ayy clicky gang rise up!
I am the CEO of Akko. Love your content Switch and Click and would consider sponsoring you in the near future! :)
Wow, what is that pretty keyboard at 0:32 in the upper right hand corner? So much orange. So much sensible key layout.
Your personality is so great 😁 loved this video, it was fun!
Of course it is, it is only beaten by the far superiors membrane keyboards.
Personality opening up in the newer videos haha, great content!

are you reviewing asus falchion
Hey, I am trying to join the server but it says that the link has expired though it has only been 5 days. Could you send a new link?
I still use membrane keyboards so far, so I assume I'd prefer silent switches...but not dead silent. I still need some kind of audio feedback.
I will always love Cherry MX Brown and probably always choose to use it because I never get tired of them, but every so often a nice sharp MX Blue has the perfect click
I like the style and production of this🙌🏻
I swear she's super underrated, to be honest I've watched a lot of videos of her making and shes a great youtuber, her reviews are fantastic, gives everything that we need to know about what she's reviewing, im talking about her vids in general btw, you're amazing, and really underrated, keep up the great work!
I came from Derral Eves Facebook group to see what all the fuss was about. I have no interest in keyboards, but this channel is awesome!
Welcome aboard!
0:39 I feel attacked, I had that exact reddragon board, then got a k6 and now use a gmmkpro
I love the new format. Great video!
I have brown switches on my keyboard but I just got a switch tester and realized i absolutely *love* the clicky switches. Now I'm so sad I didn't get blues.
I actually don't have much preference between red and blues, so I just ordered a keyboard with Cherry Browns. I just hope I don't end up disliking it.
I just found this channel and I'm loving it!!! Great content, great editing.
Fun Video. I learned some interesting stuff about the keeb community. I also want to say I've really been enjoying your content!
Glad to hear it!
0:22 One for home, one for the office.
Although now we're all remote, so the office one is redundant.
WOW I love this direction of video style!
I just got into this hobby after a 4 year affair with my K70!
I just love your delivery! It's so fresh and funny!
Thinking of getting the GMMK Pro and modding it with the Panda switches. I stay in India and it takes light years for cool stuff to reach shelves here..so let's hope for the best!
I've always "watched" this during my workouts, so this is the first time I've actually seen Betty's headgear changes per fact LOL
