Kate Bush - The Empty Bullring

- Опубликовано: 12 фев 2008
- This was the b-side of the 1980 single "Breathing".
Lyrics:
Disappears through a window.
Out of my mind
Trying to keep him at home.
Out into Rome
In the early hours,
Leaving me here
Like Tamlaine in her Tower.
You are going
To the empty bullring,
Taking your red cloak
To regain something.
Oh, you rolling matador,
Kill in your eyes
For the toro
That shut the door
To glory and gore.
The throw of the rose--
It's all you lived for,
But you've lost it all.
Your red streak
On the plot where many feet
Left it incomplete.
But you kept the meaning.
You feel him charge again,
And you feel him cut you down
Right on the spot
Where you thought
You were ground for good.
These flights of fantasy
Make your wounds more sore,
But you've every right
To even grab at the last straw.
Oh, Lord...
Oh, you rolling matador,
Kill in your eyes
For the toro
That shut the door
To glory and gore.
The throw of the rose--
It's all you lived for,
But you've lost it all. Видеоклипы
Probably the most amazing thing about Kate Bush is that she can conjure up these highly sophisticated songs using nothing more than her piano and her voice.
@@nekoti.8-2 True !
*"This is a song that I first had ideas for quite a few years ago. It is really about someone who is in love with someone who is obsessed with something that is pretty futile. They can’t get the person to accept the fact that it is a futile obsession. To put it into a sort of story form: he became a matador, and got gored so badly that he couldn’t carry on. But at night he climbs out of the window and runs off to a bullring, when there is no-one there, and he fights a bull that doesn’t exist. (…) Tamlain is a girl in a traditional fairy story, who is locked up in an ivory tower. (Kate Bush Club newsletter, 1983)"*

So frustrating that this superb song hasn't been included on the new remastered series.
here here , gutted as you , very bizarre call
Exactly, this and Ran Tan Waltz... It's not even on Spotify...
Brett: I have to agree!
@@MrMartinfive Paul: Agreed!
@@ikeepscreamingbutgodwontan3132 Ran Tan Waltz was included, though. Not This Time was not included as well!
Kate and a piano. Just perfect.
One of the songs that made me want to collect each and every one of her b-sides.
I'm telling you there's magic in that voice.
Franky FourFingers in B, Fenby
Been listening for years and can confirm. And it never changes
Kate's Album "the kick inside"..... Ein Wunderwerk! Danach hab ich ALLES gesammelt, was sie und ihr Piano gegeben haben. Auch den 'empty bullring'. Eine perfekte Symbiose aus Stimme und Instrument!.... it makes me 'feelin' great britain'!
.... untopable!
There's loads of singers with very great technique, you hear it on the tele everyday. But no one else has this kind of magic Kate has. My favorite musicians are all male and mostly guitar players but Kate somehow became my part of my top 3.
Joanna Newsom is better. But Kate is great too
@@008Invisibleman LOL. That's not even worth discussing. Joanna is weird for the sake of being weird and hasn't made a sonically pleasing sound in her life lol
I like Joanna too but nowhere near Kate, singing, songwriting or being an artist in general.
razrv3lc everyone has their pleasures, but I’ve got to agree with you. A lot of really popular ‘quirky’ female singers do the whole Kate thing and just don’t do it well. They do their own thing well enough. But it’s not that thing that she does.
Walkingblues. .mine too...
Kate she never stumbles. Her work is perfection itself. An incredible talent.
Wuthering heights was the first single i ever bought. I`ve loved her ever since. God i love this song...
One of my favorite Kate songs, I could listen to this over and over. I need this on Spotify now! I also wish it was longer. The piano, the melody, the vocals...wow.
I always loved this as a kid. I still cannot fullying understand what it is about. It seemed to be about a man trying to reclaim his young, not accepting that his time had passed. I think Kate might be being literal about a matador but I could be a metaphor for a man not knowing when it is time to let a dream go.
Oh I miss this song! I lived with someone who had "This Woman's Work" so I could hear all the B sides whenever I wanted. Thank you for posting and it's so clear and wonderful.
LOVE LOVE LOVE you Kate!!
God, I love Kate Bush! What is it about her
My dad once told me Kate bush sounds like a cartoon. How can you listen to that and not be on drugs he says lol!
I love her music now more than ever!
LOL, My mom asked me to put on The Dreaming when I returned from the record store where I had just bought it. Couple of songs in she says, "This must be music for stoned people!" She was not a fan.
Right away I thought I am going to probably really enjoy this record, and I still do more than 35 years later. Even better if you get baked first!!
@@60leebee Rebel, Rebel lol.
I remember watching top of the pops and my Dad walking past the tv when "wuthering heights" was on, he stopped....looked....and said "what the hell is this"! called my mother over and said "look at this" but he did like "take a chance on me" Abba lol. To be fair, there was some top tunes in the charts that week (mid Feb 1978).
Another masterpiece was just in at no, 44 that week, "baker street" Gerry Rafferty!!!! WOW.
Lustig 😂
Kate Bush is everything!
To think this is only a b-side... most artists would give their left arm for this as an a-side...
and right arm :)
@@008Invisibleman lol...
So perfect. This shouldn't have been a b-side, this should've been on the album as its own track. Her voice is absolutely gorgeous,
And the melody reminds me of Billy Joel, for some reason.
O, heartsore this didn't make it to Lionheart. Astonishing song. Such high quality control, even this gem remained unearthed...
Thanks Symphonyofflowers for posting this! :D It's beautiful, and as a young Kate Bush fan (born in the late 90s) I haven't got any of the extra tracks found on the This Woman's Work box set. :)
Kate you are great!!!
I love this song!!!
What's really impressive is that she's the only artist I know (along with Pink Floyd, no wonder he spotted her, she and Gilmoor are the same in that respect) who really works on all her songs. You get the feeling that she's not in it for fame or money, but for the love of art and life.
Coming from a very artistic family I'd say you are spot on. This is my belief also. I love watching her interviews, especially when she is talking to kids. Can't get more down to earth than that.
Have been a fan since 1978 always loved this woman's voice and her lyracal genius writing.this song reminds me of strange phenomena on the kick inside LP, which I have and play more than anything else.this song although great I believe could of been a hit, but it was decided to not be a a side release.
Another GREAT one from our beloved Kate and our good friend SOF ;)!
I've just bought This Woman's Work vol 1 & 2
wonderful...one of her bestest! thank you for posting this!
Haven't heard this one before, Thanks.
A shame this isn't on THE OTHER SIDES rarities collection.
And that Walk Straight Down the Middle was included on it... It's been on every release of The Sensual World except for one version of it. There was absolutely no reason that it should have been included while The Empty Bullring was excluded.
I love this one!!
what a song!
Why didn't this make it onto The Other Sides? 😭
I love this song. It should have been a number one single never mind a b side. An orgasm for the ears
I do not have this song in my discography, it(she) is beautiful...
Kate:AMAZING.
Sublime
🖤
You can hear it in Joanna Newsom's songs
"The Empty Bullring" sounds like a Sherlock title.
The feel of this, ESPECIALLY the super high pitch vocal, is a THROWBACK to "lionheart". I presume this was an outtake from that as it is completely out of keeping with Never For Ever, an album where her vocals were FAR more polished and sophisticated.
steve radford this is the B side to Breathing on Never Forever.
A Kate Bush b-side. Doesn't that put it all into perspective?!
💖🌹
@Symphonyofflowers - I wouldn't dream of asking you to part with them, really, they are worth their weight in Gold. Where could I get a copy? x
KT Bush is a Goddess!
Pls contact me if you have a copy of "This Woman's Work cd 1 and 2".
Thank you sooo much for posting x
the late Benjamin Lo-Fi says thank you...
how fucking awesome is she and how hot is that image at 1:36??
@TruthofDilly I have them both
Die Stelle 1:38 mag ich am liebsten
Kate Bush, where's your male-side? Empty buildings never deserve to loose. What a discovery.
Is this one of those GCHQ code breaking quizes?
Who upvoted this comment lmao. It’s literally gibberish
Great song, shame it was a b side.
um I am a big K8 fan, but (rose growing old) "to regain something" actually only covers one octave! Lovely song though.
@mimosf please contact me again. Sooooooooooooooooo strange...i had a dream of KT last night and that i had DISCOVERED some new songs by her!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have psychic dreams every night but occassionally they blow my mind if they are literal. So yeah, please contact me again mate! Peace and love to evryone, especially the KT fans (coz like her, we're special) lol x
What happened????
I like her early work best. I don't care much for the slick pop sound of the 80's albums
the 80s lack the organicness of the old ones but I like them still. hounds of love is still great production. and all songs on tsw are good its just production feels less organic. but yes I get what you mean
+thenutbar44 Yeah, I never really get why people say Hounds of Love is her masterpiece, yeah it's a great album but I always found Never for ever an The Kick Inside more mesmerizing
WalkingBlues its more easy listening
Leon Tarkshina nope, i found her later work to be less unique, sometimes i cant even tell if it's kate bush. it sounded too 80's for me and i was never a big fan of 80's production style
WalkingBlues me too the production I am not as keen on in sensual world somehow
You've lost it all.
Kate was trained in mime by same guy who trained Bowie.
@Splitter I meant Kemp who has talked about teaching Bowie. I’ve seen the footage
@Splitter I’ve no idea. They seemed to do mime early in their careers and then their music and performances developed and transmuted taking many forms in many different ways. I’d see mime as part of a general artistic education or grounding like learning Latin might be useful as a stepping stone to other languages. But I don’t know of any current mime artists. Not something I’ve looked for. But they’re probably out there.
Sorry this song is bloody awful
Thanks to take on your time to tell us
Thanks for the view number
