The magic was not that he broke a string, it was he changed guitars mid-song and never missed a beat. Maybe watch the video to where the roadie hands SRV another Strat and SRV grabs it, puts the strap on and continues playing.

I've watched that guitar swap countless times, and it still astounds me. Sure, F1 mechanics can fuel the car and change all four wheels in seconds, but they do it WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED. Seamless guitar change, without missing a lick, and singing the entire time. Major kudos to Stevie and his guitar technician.

Stevie was fantastic, but I think we need to recognize the quality of the band, Double Trouble. As a group, they were absolutely phenomenal. That piano solo! I miss Stevie. I remember exactly where I was when I heard of his passing, it's just that significant to me. RIP.
I grew up in the 60's and Jimi Hendrix was our man - when he passed, there was this guy from Texas - another disciple of Jimi who came along - and oh my, how he could play - we miss them both terribly - yes, terribly. God Bless Stevie.
If I was born blind, I would have never known Stevie broke a string in the middle of his solo!! A tremolo unit goes haywire out of tune when a string breaks - but Stevie keeps his solo in tune! Truly amazing! Love the way Reese Wynans tears up the keyboard in this performance...

Tommy had a look of concern as well. One look from Stevie to the GT, unstraps the guitar, fresh guitar being strapped on him mid song. Never missed a beat. Damn. Miss him. Damn, Miss playing in a band too.
The fact he even broke it is amazing considering he played the thickest strings you can buy. Most players aren't man enough to snap a string that strong.
Andrew Amende and the two are greatly intertwined as anyone who knows music will tell you. Rock music has links to blues and vice versa. To break a string and improvise your solo before having a roadie swap your guitars while you sing is as rock and roll as it gets.
Stevie broke a WOUND string COMPLETELY OFF at the bridge saddle - (try that sometime, without a saw blade!) - and never broke the beat in the transition going into the 3rd verse. Had I been there, I would have jumped out of the stands in elation!!! LONG LIVE LIVE ALBUMS AND THE LIVE VIDEOS that capture these inconceivable moments! Yes of course; Reese Wynans was the perfect fit on keyboard for Stevie's music and that band. Well, bless my soul!
Rene Martinez, a lifelong roadie/guitar tech seamlessly swaps out a broken guitar for SRV after he breaks a string. You can barely even see him if you are in the audience and they give a nice round of appreciation. Never misses a beat. Great memories of Austin City Limits and SRV.
Shoutout to Reese who is north of 70 and still crushing it. But Stevie - my god what a badass he was. The confidence he had in his skills, and the confidence he had in that roadie, that’s a real team right there. Barely missed a beat!

The more and more that I see of his live videos, the more this guy amazes me on what he accomplished in his short life. Think about the level that he was at being as young as he was. And yet we get to see garbage still come out from Miley and Nikki Minaj. This guy had more talent in his left pinky finger than all of these a$$ clowns nowadays that like to think that they are musicians do in their entire bodies.
When some players break a string they take it down a notch, fearful of breaking another. Watching him continue to churn full blast on 5 strings is almost as much fun as watching the swap, and hearing the crowd cheer when he pulls it off. God I miss this guy.

I didnt even realized what happened and TOTALLY missed this. 2nd Time I was watching it with a friend and I was like "holy shit I completly missed that whole "guitar changing scene!" " Truly a legend. One of a kind!
