For the ceiling above the gallery, I think a coffered arch with a chandelier in the middle would be perfect. The arch would reflect the design of the chapel, while the coffered ceiling would continue the theme of the lower level.

I understand your idea for the library to be a more elegant setting, but sunlight wreaks havoc on furniture and books. I would think a glass ceiling would require a great deal of maintenance as well. I like the exposed beams, they are elegant in themselves.

A coffer ceiling on the ground floor and a rustic ceiling on the top floor will look beautiful. The rustic ceiling is more in keeping with the convent's architectural style and a better archival choice. It's also better for the budget since you still have tons of renovation projects left at the convent.

Hi Billy I watch a few of you guys in France restoring the chateus. You need to watch some of Dan's ideas for saving time on Escape to Rural France. He does most of it by himself. He tightens the beams with straps, then cuts them all at the same time. then uses the lifter? to take them all up to the top at the same time. He already has the steel installed, so all he has to do is take all the beams he's already cut from the straps and place them.on and in the metal and move each one to its spot and screw in. You'll see what I'm talking about if you watch some of his latest. this way you don't have to go up and down the stairs with the beams...just one time. I love ya'll

There is another decorative technique for a beamed ceiling. Painted and stenciled ceiling beams are a beautiful remnant of the past. They are rare because over the years buildings are renovated and these ceilings are lost. They are found in very old great houses and castles (chateaus). Perhaps, Michael could be called upon for research. Michael can also create stencil patterns, color choices, etc.. It is also possible for more than one person to do the painting, since stencils are used. Michael can add creative freehand painting to the overall design, if he chooses. This technique could possibly give the convent a unique artistic flair that harkens back to a much older time. Just a thought!

A glass ceiling might affect the objects you place in the room I.e. fading of books, samples of wallpapers etc. Rustic might clash against the elegance of the beautiful squares of the lower ceiling. I don’t know the right answer but it is something to think about. You are doing a phenomenal job and I know you will have the perfect solution. If you're installing ornate coffered ceiling detail under the gallery, a rustic ceiling above similar to the kitchen will not match in style. You don't have to have them match each other but they probably should be of a similar style. You might consider UV protective glass for a glass ceiliing & maybe for the windows too depending on the quantity, quality, age & value of the books you're planning for the collection.

But I believe having continuity between the upper & lower ceilings will work best in a specially fitted out space like the library. A grand coffered ceiling above the entire space would be extremely beautiful when looked at from the ground level especially as it would be framed by a matching walkway ceiling

Harmony and repeating types of architecture at the convent is the key to succeed. Those coffered ceilings are always gorgeous. The trick to keep in mind is to repeat them somewhere in the convent. Do you know if that kind of ceiling exist in that time in more luxurious house? It's going to be beautiful 💝

Thank you for bringing us a video today Billy. It's getting so very exciting. Still want to know if you finished the On suit at the chateau. And; if we can see it.

I've mentioned this before I think but frosted glass with fluoro lighting behind it would probably work as you'd have your original external roof with a faux window square in the centre of the room. No sun on the articles in the room and you retain the sense of elevation, light and sky. This is often used on walls where a window to the exterior is impossible. A simple glass decoration could look fantastic.

I feel as though the glass-glare would not bode well for actual library reading. Think of all that shimmers in fancy kitchens with countertops and appliances. Adding glass to a library would disrupt book reading. Agree with some on UV window blocking.

Hi. I hope you have a great start of the summer. I been following you for years and I am glad to be able to visit the area where you live this week. After watching all he program this winter and all the years before, we look forward to see the small cities and the markets. We will not interrupt you, but I have tried to send some message’s before to know if you were going to rent out rooms in the nun closeted. We are so tired of the darkness and the snow in the winter, so we are looking for a place we’re my wife and I can stay for periods of the year. Norway can be cold and dark in the winter. We wish you all a he best, and look forward to visit France

How about dark red between the beams for the top ceiling and the beams in a contrasting colour? Sort of Tudor banqueting hall style. Whatever you do it will look great, Billy. As always you are an inspiration!

it wil be amazing! Personally, I think you could do another coffered ceiling upstairs to complete the library look, and not bring in glass into it... also, books don't much like a lot of light and there's already loads of windows to make the space nice and bright. :)

That little riding lift I have no idea what it’s called but when I think back that’s probably the best money you’ve ever spent!!! Everything is turning out beautiful and your style is my style but that lift has been a game changer. I was excited about the kitchen and I love looking at it and still pictures still, then I was excited over the Organ and love the little Christmas concert with the candles and I didn’t think I’d be as excited about the library but once I saw your vision which again is my style I’m excited about the library now. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇬🇧🇺🇸

The coffers are consistent with your library furniture. I would do coffers above also. They could be larger , or different proportions up there, as long as the elements match. Imagine a large round coffer on the upper ceiling, with "triangles" that curve around the center circle to fill out the square. A painted partially cloudy sky painting in the round inner ceiling of the circle. All of the moldings of the coffers should be the same as the ones below the balcony
