- I knocked on this door with no answer, so I thought I would go ahead and get the grass mowed down because it was so long. Right when I was getting started the next door neighbor came over to talk. She told me that nobody has lived here in the 9 years that she’s been next door. The owners used to hire a younger kid to come mow but he hasn’t been by at all this year and the yard is getting out of control. Rodents have been becoming infested in the yard and affecting all of the neighbors around. So I got the whole yard cleaned up for the neighborhood, the curbs and sidewalks edged, and everything looking amazing again!

it's cool that neighbor came out, sometimes a little gratitude is better than money.
Not once have I seen a homeowner - or a neighbour of a vacant home - bring you a cold drink, hot drink, even a cookie or two. Showing kindness, consideration and generosity appears to be lacking in the American hearts.
You're pretty right, but I did see an elderly lady bring him a sandwich once.

As small as that front yard is, If I was a neighbor with a push mower I'd set it on the lowest setting and mow it (just the front) every other time I mow my own lawn....

I think it’s unfair to call the neighbor’s lazy because they don’t want to maintain someone else’s property. Should they repaint it when the paint chips, fix the roof if a tile comes off? Somebody bought it and they need to take responsibility for it, plain and simple
They don't even maintain their own sidewalk cracks or curbs, as you can see in the before and afters. Or their side of the fence line. Lazy.

I get that some folks just can't do yard work, but seeing all these overgrown lawns in fairly large neighborhoods, surely someone could cut the grass as opposed to complaining about it to the guy doing it for free.

Looking at the square footage of the lot in the back something tells me that the homeowner was using the kid who was tending to the property. A kid wouldn’t know the price point for a lot that size.

For my camera, I made a wooden base that is about head sized that the screw for the rig attachment pokes through. On the wooden base I stretched one of those umbrella hats on it. Seems to do the trick for me if I am in a hot sunny area and want a long time-lapse video.

Nice job Spencer despite the horrible heat. I've seen other mow guys who put little "camera umbrellas" over their cameras (Midlife Stockman) when it gets so hot. Perhaps that would help. Love the SB/Bladez T shirts. Stay safe out there and good luck with the heat and camera issues.

Nice big lot! No wonder the neighbor was irritated by it. Now, it looks WONDERFUL!! Don't know if you've been getting rain (central Ohio hasn't), but wonder if that grass will grow back in all that heat? Guess if you're getting rain, it'll sprout pretty quickly. Now that you have it 'tamed', maybe a neighbor or 2 will work to keep it down.

Someone must be paying the taxes on it, otherwise the county would have taken it and auction it off for the taxes. Why don't sell it. The longer they wait the more it looses value. It looks like it would be a good fixer upper. Some cities code enforcement would be there fining the property owner, especially if there are rodents issues.
Great job getting it mowed and trimmed up. A great improvement to the neighborhood.
She stated that the Owner does come and go once and a while, so I think he's paying the taxes.

Problem with Rodents...??? Living next to that House??? Try Living next to someone that has Not Mowed His Yard in over 15yrs! And Who's House is ready to fall apart due to Rot.. And would try to find a way to Sue anyone who would be willing to help him... If he don't sell your equipment you lend him like he did mine, when it could still be mowed..
And your City, Town, or Village allows this why ???.

Would it hurt the homeowners nearby to all get together and cut it down rather than complaining. Maybe the custodians are sick and can’t pay the gardener.
Long grass is not the cause of rats and mice around the area, they are attracted to food.

Another tiny yard with a huge yard. If zoning allowed someone could raze the house and build two on the lot. And still have a nice profit if he sold them. Rentals would probably cause problems.
Yet, despite rodents coming into their yards, the neighbors cannot rotate mowing the lawn or one take front and another the back and just spend 30 mins mowing it every other week...because, you know, that's worse than dealing w rodents. 🤦♀️
Why should they? As long as they do it, the owner or city won’t take responsibility. I’d be on the phone with the city daily until something was done.
@@kevinjones5560 why should they? First and foremost for their own benefit, that's why. The city will take a long time to respond, if they do, and fines don't always get the lawn mowed. Grow up, Kevin, 30 mins every other week is not going to break your back, is it? But it will store up some heavenly treasure, some good karma, some appreciation of your neighbors, your own sense of goodness and kindness. So many reasons to roll up your sleeves and help where you are able and where a mission field (literally) is put in front of you. Exercise good will instead of ill will.
