- I know what you're thinking… about bloomin' time. The KTM has left my life and now there's a very shiny Yamaha MT10 SP in its place. Join me for my very first ride as I explain why I've bought it, what my initial impressions are and my plans for the future… Sorry about the poor image quality - it was getting dark and the new GoPro 12 slightly sucks in low light. Getting philosophical, I think you *can* buy happiness by buying things. Anything that gives you experiences or challenges you to do or try something new is worth spending money on. When you're our age and tethered to the "real world" by kids and a job and all those other responsibilities, sometimes spending your money on something that lets you escape all that is one of the best ways to buy joy.
Yes Tim! Welcome to the club. A bit of info, the Tracer 9 heated grips fit with a little bit of modification and they integrate with the dash 100%. Just in case you can't get your hands on the MT-10 ones like me. Oh and the Gen1 comfort seat also fits
Bought my MT10SP last year in Poland where I have lived for many years. Truly amazing!! Genuinely nothing to dislike. The biggest surprise for me was being able to ride such a sporty naked at 6'4'" with 35 inseam. Most similar motorcycles are just cramped and uncomfortable. I can ride the MT10 for hours. Your dream has come true!! Congratulations Tim
Hah I'm the same size, just bought an SP myself specifically because of that. It's so hard to find sporty bikes that are comfortable at this size, but the MT10 isn't cramped at all. Really comfortable bike for me.

Congrats Tim, keep looking at (and loving) my Streetfighter V4S in the garage, but this MT10 SP calls to me - must be that CP4. Need to ride one.
Congratulations on your purchase, Tim. Like you, I thought the standard bike was great, but the SP is better still and an absolutely brilliant bike to ride and own. You're in for a treat!

Welcome to the mt10 ownership experience 😅😅 all I've done since getting my cyan storm in July is laugh out loud, this bike is brilliant, I've had my suspension setup recently and it's simply a different bike now, more plush over the bumps but amazing in the twisties..., anyway Tim you'll love it..👍👍
Had to watch again. I got the standard 10, my second one, but I do love the suspenders on the sp. I’ve already got a yamaha with the blurple wheels, a term from the early fz09 days, so I couldn’t really get another. They’d clash! Cool stuff. 👍🤪🇨🇦

Yeah, so today I test-rode four bikes back2back: original KTM SMT999, Yamaha Tenere 700, BMW R Nine T, Yamaha MT-10.
The MT was head and shoulders above the others for me. So much fun, yet controllable, competent, smooth but rough, fast, just loved it.

I've been dreaming about it too! Probably going to wait until the first of the year and get the 2024 model. The first thing I'll get is a V Stream windscreen.

Thanks Neil! Yeah, I was filming in the 5.3k open gate mode and cropped in for this so it was a bit tighter than I’d have liked… and any action cam will be noisy at sunset I guess!
Nice brother. Always thought Yams are the pretty,meanest looking bikes. For me this year it was the V4s after watching yours and many other reviews. Their all joyous really 👍🏻🤪

Done the same a few times. Just bought a Super Duke Evo without even sitting on one. There are just no bad bikes nowadays. Would have gone for the MT10SP but current KTM deal with £3k off, 4 year warranty and 4.9% PCP deal made it so much cheaper monthly
Congratulations Tim. Had my base MT10 since 2016. It's been absolutely brilliant. Bonkers fun, wide big person seat, and so far mine has been super reliable over it's 33,000 miles. Some SW Motech Blaze panniers work well with the bike. Only slight downside is it's thirst and range.

Tim, good call; I owned one so a couple tips - get a cover for the oil cooler or it'll be a proper mess in 5k miles and also a rad cover. An Akra can and decat along with a dyno run and setup (suggest BSD in P'borough) is a little on the noisy side but just about on the right side of acceptable and makes the ride much crisper and more predictable - really lovely. Put some HH pads in the front and it transforms the brakes. As you get more used to it you will get cheekier and cheekier 'till one day you get home and think 'I must stop doing that' as you reflect on the 80mph thrid gear power wheelie you just pulled........and then you'll do the same thing the next day. Take care and have fun....
Thanks! It has an oil cooler and rad cover (both the upgraded Yam parts, not the stock chicken wire!). Already discovered the third gear power wheelies haha! Might investigate the Leo Vince decat - it seems like it doesn't make it tooooo loud.
@@timrodierides Leo Vince is the way to go with the resonator section helping muffle what would be an open pipe otherwise.

I've got a Tracer 900 (first big bike) and it's bonkers. Can't imagine how insane the 10 is. Nice choice!

Looks ace! 💪 I almost got one this summer, but I'd never owned a KTM big twin and the SDR Evo was calling... very pleased with that, but I think I would've been very happy with the MT-10 too. I look forward to more videos on this!

I suggest you look at the reviews comparing ACF50 to XCP Clearcoat, and others.

No Brainer after riding the standard mt10, which is more than adequate. The SP is just icing....
There’s a slight boredom that comes with riding a adv style bike
When you swap to a naked or a supersport etc you fall in love with riding again maybe it’s the wind 😂 good luck with the 10 I have it’s little brother sp obviously for gold bits and can’t fault it
Just put a deposit on a new sp, not rode it either currently on a gsxr 1000r hopefully a good move missing the gixxer already

I have a streetfighter V4 2020 but i font like it in the lower speeds and gears because of the sticky feeling. What can i do about this? Was thinking to trade it in for de MT10. How is the MT10, much smoother?

I'll definitely be touring on it! I've done a tour on an 1198 with a fuel light that came on at 75 miles... it's fine

I have made the decision, I'll be chopping my f900xr TE in this week for a 1200GSA triple black 2019.
Whilst I'm only 27, my bike now be my main transport so bigger tank etc is needed. With the extra pennines I'll save from buying a 1250, I'll use that towards a deposit for a 21 Duke 1290R or Tuono V4 Factory me thinks.

What made you go for the mt over the sdr? I’m torn between the 2 now ktm have put the 4 year warranty on!!
Two reasons. 1: I’ve had a KTM with a similar engine and I like variety. 2: Can’t insure the KTM!!!

Hi Tim, did you prefer the MT10 to the Diavel V4?
It's probably preference and affordable. The Ducati skips past the affordable for most people. They're two different bikes really. One being more of a cruiser and the other more a naked sport bike.
Exactly. Love the Diavel V4 but can't afford one - and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable on it for longer trips
