Another great video. The .380 is the round that continues to do on tge street what (on paper) it shouldn't be doing. It ends fights in 1-3 shots, often times with FMJ. Years ago I adopted "evidence based practices" as relates to my training and equipment, focusing on what statistically occurs in a gunfight, rather than what MAY occur. Thus far this approach has served me well as I approach my 33rd year as a LEO assigned to a busier town that had over 85 street (not LEO involved) shootings last year, the vast majority with .380, .9mm, .40 FMJ...
You hit the main point for me right as the video ended. The odds I will need a gun are so small, and its too damn hot here almost year round to wear long pants, let alone a jacket. I put a little gun in my front pocket. That's as far as I'm willing to go with it. The little 380s mean I can carry a gun with no hassle or discomfort and thats why it always winds up in my pocket as I go out. And THATS a great advantage.
bunberrier agreed. The gun you actually carry every day is better than the one you leave at home. In my opinion you should chose your primary carry gun based on what size gun can you effectively conceal the way you are most often dressed. Then have a second or third that you can carry for those days when you have to dress differently. For me that's basically any of the compact double stacks pretty much all year, but if I'm wearing my suit that means going to something smaller.
That new Sig P365 boasts a 10+1 capacity and is about the size of a Glock 43. That's pretty darn impressive. I'll be interested to see if Paul gets one.
I got to shoot a p365 over the weekend. Really great feeling gun, and it isnt any bigger feeling than the 43 (or 42 really for that matter). Personally, no trigger safety, and no manual safety arent really positives, so I ended up getting a LC9s for about half the price, which has been a great shooting gun too. As far as concealed carry - its true the odds youll ever need a gun are small, but if you ever do need it, dont you want to be prepared? Its the reason, I went with a six round revolver over 5. Youll probably never need 6 shots (or 10+1 for that matter) but if you fired 5 and the threat wasnt eliminated.... how confident are you in your reload ability.
Okay, this is a little old, but I'll bit I don't know why you feel that a 9mm subcompact requires long pant and a jacket. Start with a pair of walking short (meaning shorts with some structure and belt loops, not gym/running shorts.) Add a wicking golf or t-shirt, maybe one size up from what you'd wear not carrying, worn untucked. Next thread in a proper gun belt, and single clip IWB holster. Then pick the subcompact 9mm of your choice (the current 'it" gun in this category being SIG P365, but many others will work.) Now tell me why this wouldn't work in not humid weather?
@@bbmw9029 I live in the hot and humid, when its 101 and 99% humidity, you would understand why a larger frame gun isn't always comfortable. I pocket a LCP2. I work in a warehouse no AC, sitting on a forklift a lot, loading and unloading hot trailers. Trust me when I tell you IWB with a glock 26 gets very uncomfortable.
I live in Florida where for many months of the year it is >85F and humid. I wear shorts 90% of the year (retired). The weight and size of the LCP makes it ideal for my situation. When going for a walk to exercise I wear sports shorts (and sweat) and in that scenario the North American Arms Pug in .22 Mag is better suited. I have a Sig P365 which I adore but it’s weight makes EDC for me problematic. Life is about compromises. Thanks again Paul for yet another excellent review!
Paul, I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy your videos since I found this channel. Your videos are always concise, logical, sequential, and goal directed. You present your case in a manner that is consistent and well thought out. Sometimes they fit my situation and sometimes they don't. The case in point is the LCP. Somewhere somehow I got old. As it came straight out of the box I was unable to rack the slide using my sub-standard pinch grip. After some consideration I modified the slide serrations temporarily to aid me in the charging of the pistol. The problem that I encountered after charging the pistol it was, because of my severe arthritis, the LCP was extremely painful to shoot. I could not make it through a full magazine without the use of a shooting glove and wrapped wrist. It's now one of my car guns.
@@miketyson8933 No doubt he has osteoarthritis in his wrists, hands and fingers. You can believe me when I say it saps most of your grip strength and causes considerable pain. When shooting handguns, both the grip weakness and pain get worse with each successive recoil impulse. Generally I have found that shooting autoloaders makes it worse than shooting revolvers. By the time your 7 year old son turns 27 years old, you could have a thorough understanding of this yourself. I hope for your sake you don't suffer from this chronic, progressive malady as you mature.
Hey there dntpokedbear, I find that revolvers, with their (generally) higher bore axis, and (usually) more rounded grip backstrap, tend to roll the mass of the weapon upwards under recoil. This brings some gravity and elbow articulation into play to help dissipate the impulse. I find this really helps the arthritic hands and fingers as compared to a semi-automatic pistol, with its lower bore axis and flatter grip backstrap, which tends to drive the impulse straight back into my hands and wrists. I guess another way to say it is that a revolver "just fits my hand better". LOL
dntpokedbear Hopefully your still doing some shooting and/or carrying for your self protection. If Not, you may not know about the newer S&W M&P 380 Shield EZ rack and the new Ruger Lite rack Security 380 which I recommend, because it doesn't have the Rear Grip safety that the S&W has. Its a 15+1 /10+1 as it comes with each magazine. Its usually About $300.00 or less, and has great reviews here all over Utube. The S&W Shield 380 EZ has a 3.68" barrel and its a 8 round singlestack if you need a thinner grip but the wider grip of the Ruger should help more with recoil pain.. Hopefully some of that will help.

I know this is an older video but still enjoyed it. I'm retired and live in central Florida. I wear shorts and a t-shirt daily. LCP in pocket is my daily carry. Might not be the best gun but it's always with me. Thanks for an informative bideo.
Paul Harrell I agree. I feel like ammo makers are just trying to get the best results in gel for sales, whether the bullet performs well in real life or not. Similar to "common core" being taught in schools today, they teach to the test instead of just teach then test. Thanks.
I think they tune results according to velocity, mass, and powder. Users tend to be interested in penetration and turbidity in gel so it can be compared without chance contaminating results in non-homogeneous media. If they had bone media as well as denim in front of flesh media, that might be better, if all comparisons are the same density of materials.
Good video. Informative! People don't realize how easy it is to carry an LCP. Nor do they realize how much practice it takes to remain proficient with the LCP.
Thanks for the video. I just recently got the LC9. My hands a big and I had a hard time gripping the smaller pistols. I also have a 5 shot 38 with a similar tigger pull so between the two of them I'll be fine. Thank you for all of the videos, especially on ammo. Best
Really like my little Ruger LCP. Like Paul says at the end of the video: he's been able to carry an LCP in trouser pocket and nobody was none the wiser; but it was obvious he had a pistol in his trouser pocket when he stuck the LC9 in his pocket. When I carry my LCP in a DeSantis pocket holster in my trouser right pocket; it usually does not 'print' at all no more so than a cell phone. And it operates exactly like a double-action revolver: can carry it with the chamber loaded with a reasonable degree of comfort due to the long trigger pull (and the holster covers the trigger); and no safety to fiddle with. And the .380 has sufficient firepower for close range self defense situations; so the .380 ACP is perfect for me as a self-defense firearm load and in particular the Ruger LCP pistol.
Another great video, Paul. I have both the LC9 and LCP Max and I pocket carry both in Alabama pocket holsters. I sincerely hope you are doing well and wishing you the best, partner.
At the time of this reply apparently there are 14 people who should see a shrink. Good job Paul, as usual extremely informative. Thanks for all your effort.
You ought to talk to the guy I "met" on imgur today. I said something about SF calling the NRA terrorists, and he not only emphatically stated that they ARE terrorists, but "you gun nuts would murder your own children to get a better gun!" I think he honestly believes that. That is what we are up against. *SIGH*
Thanks for leaving the nearly fresh target. It worked out perfect for my shooting session. I shoot at lgprc at least once a week. It would be cool to see you there sometime. Nice video as usual.
Paul, clear concise and to the point with a bonus of mega knowledge bomb. Good stuff. I went with the LCP cause it is so easy to conceal. Better a pistol that is easy to carry everyday than one where you might leave it at home due to summer clothing choices. Great question bro.
Paul, thank you very much for this video. I own both of these same guns and the LCP has become my primary carry due to program compliance. I agree with your findings completely (I don't shoot the LC9 much better if at all than the LCP). Program compliance has kept me with the LCP, even despite my heartfelt desires to carry a revolver (different topic; spoiler = the LCP just carries easier than anything else I own). I also found your 380 ammo selection video well worth watching, so thank you again.
As usual Mr. Harrell a great video. I like how you are not promoting or pushing a product but rather, giving your viewers things to think about. I have lost a lot of respect for some of the youtube so called "Gun Reviewers" I have found a considerable number of them to be gun advertisers/promoters. Thanks for honest straight up information.
ive carred single stack 9s, double stack full size pistols, revolvers you name it, and the gun I have on me always is my keltec p3at. Im a full time carpenter and have it on me 247 365. love my pocket 380.
Your videos are informative, well done and I can't dispute any of your opinions/facts. How do you not have more subscribers? Hope your fan base increases. Great work.
People are drawn to flashy stuff, unfortunately, and Paul isn't big on monetizing/optimizing. I believe, and the comments confirm it, that people are starving for real world info instead of trendy and superficial BS however. This channel seems to be growing fast with word of mouth. It should be A LOT bigger.
Like that "meat target" construction - made pretty good sense. Looks like the Hornady slugs came up short on expansion, but when you're being set upon by a mixed bag of groceries, penetration probably counts more. You never know when there might be a rump roast in that bag. Nice demo. Cheers.
I have both, being short and skinny the lcp is easier for me to carry, the LC9 is easier to shoot due to the longer grip. I've never had a problem with either, both have been very reliable over the years. Thank you Paul for an excellent review.
If you absolutely must carry, learn to shoot and size will almost never matter. A .380 should be plenty and seven rounds more then enough. Many people forget that the chance of needing a gun is near enough zero and if you do need it pulling it will almost certainly do the trick, (I'd hide mine but situations vary so who knows) and if you do need to fire it there's a good chance that even if you miss the situation will be resolved. All that bs amounts to learn to shoot and even a small pocket gun plus a pinch of situational awareness will rule the day.
Agree. I've had Walther PPs 's and PPK's and in the 70's at a range in PA, .380 FMJ's went through TWO railroad ties as target backups at 30 feet. So the .380's have the stuff, you just have to have control. My Gen 2 LCP is a great little shooter. Fast draw at 15 feet puts double taps at 4". Practice, practice, practice!
Yeah the amount of debate about calibers and models of guns with differing capacities always amuses me. Seems if you have the leisure time to argue this stuff you probably aren't living in circumstances that will put you in harms way.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 very well said! I will use .22 or .32 or .38...what ever I have available to try and tip the scales in my favor! No use in arguing caliber. I say, just make sure u carry everyday 👍
I have a rule of thumb , gun choises are determined by where I'm going , what I'm wearing and what I will be doing there, and inbetween ! Shoulder holsters are what I call Full Dress rigs and are the least comfortable for me ! belt holsters (inside -outside) and gun fanny pac's share a wide range of capabilities . Ankle rigs and pocket carry for minimum presence and minimum caliber choices. The .380 and .38's are the bottom end for me. Sometimes I carry two guns only because I can shed one and still have the other in the event my daily plan or the weather changes , that's what I consider maximum versatility and this does not have any criminal ramifications in my home state . Court arguments could be a challenge but , at least at that point I am alive and not in a bag . Thanks for you videos and insights .
I do the same thing, but it presents a problem. Options are good, but too many can cause confusion. I rarely use my shoulder rigs or fanny packs, for example, and whenever I do I realize how rusty and clumsy I am with those. Better than unarmed, but food for thought. Most people end up sticking to one platform and one carry mode. Or two at most.
love the vid's Paul.coming from Australia I'd love to be able to go plinking with a hand gun but not allowed,at the same time I'm probably glad I don't have to consider carrying one for personal protection.
Paul --- (ex mil here too) --- excellent work and we appreciate your insights. I'd be interested in seeing how the newer Custom (trigger upgrade) and LCP II do wrt trigger pull, reset, etc. VR/ GR BTW (I use to live in Seattle)............can't be the Pacific Northwest for spectacular beauty.
Thanks for the video. I like my LC9, and shoot it well. I was at the range yesterday and got a 2 inch group at 15 yards. I had one flyer that expanded that group to 3 inches. BTW, mine is the original (old model) unmodified LC9. I hear complaints about the trigger on that one. My answer is, HUH? Thumbs up.
I picked up a Ruger LCP with built-in viridian laser for around $250 just before Christmas for my wife. She didn't want it; she has fibro and her hands hurt a lot so she has opted not to carry anymore (working to convince her to forego that decision). Anyway I decided to keep it instead of sell/trade it off. Am I glad I did! Talking about program compliance, I often wear shorts or sweat pants, I can carry this gun, with a small leather holster, in my pocket and it looks just like a wallet. When standing there is no printing and when I sit you can't tell it's a gun at all. Lightweight and easy to make sure I'm always armed even in less than great attire for carrying.
9mm kurz Holy hell, thats the first thing i ever heard .380 called 40 years ago and in the very next sentence... the 9mm short!!! Thanks for the nostalgia!
I have already watched most of his videos but didn't add comments, only hit the "like" icon. He said in a previous video he won't benefit unless a comment is made. Even if it just says "Hello".....I'm re-watching them all. Guess he's pretty good IMO!!!!! Thanks for the video's!!!!!
Love your "realistic" Meat target setup! Really tired of JELLO tests but wonder how the 380s would have performed if they hit a rib or sternam. Great vid! Thanks!
I bought my LC9 used, it was a great deal and wanted a single stack pocket gun (even came with a deSantis basket weave pocket holster that’s decent) The mags had +1 baseplates so 9 with 1 in the pipe was impressive to me for such a tiny gun. I Carry it around the house in my basketball shorts taking out the trash/litter box coffee+Fox News ect.
In gelatin testing I've done in the past I've found the Critical Defense .380 to have a low probability of expansion from guns as small as the LCP. Same with their standard pressure .38 from a snub. The bullets do tend to yaw very reliably though if they don't expand, which explains the controlled penetration and observed damage in your demonstration.
4 things. 1. You are becoming my favorite youtube gun guy. You are...normal and I dig that. 2.Where did you get that jacket? 3. Could you do this with a .357 magnum 125gr JHP or 44 mag/special? 4. You should start a gofundme page to pay for your meat targets. I am slowly becoming addicted to those vids.
He probably wouldn't flinch even if he did get hurt... he'd be too busy delivering quality #facts on accidental (machine-caused) vs negligent (operator-caused) discharge. Like a boss. 😎
As always a good video. As I own both a LCP N LCP ll and a few LC9'S I can say for i prefer Sig elite 100gn when i carry a 380 here in S Florida. I trust both LCP n LCP ll. Agree ll is an upgrade and these guns are for quick point and shoot. I own much more powerful handguns but aside from being too big to conceal i never would want to hit an innocent. As reported everyday there is some kind of reckless, stupid shooting and death down here. Tks
Nicely done video, as always! I enjoyed your comparison as I have both guns, although mine is the LC9s pro. Was interested in your accuracy results since I thought I was the only one who can't get better groups with the LC9 than my LCP. I really like my LC9 a bunch, but I never seem to be able to shoot it as well as I think I should be able to. I bought each gun for pocket carry, but the LCP is definitely the preferred due to its size and strong trigger pull, which acts as a nice safety. That new trigger on the LC9S pro is just not good for me to pocket carry with one in the chamber.
Ruger actually makes an extended magazine for the lcp. I actually own two of them for my lcp .380. So you can get the same capacity magazines for the lcp as there are for the lc9. That argument is moot now. However the caliber argument will always be a thing.
The extended clip for the LCP , makes it much more comfortable to grip and shoot. I carry the extended clip loaded, with the "spare " 6 round normal clip in my off-pocket. It would give 13 rounds, but I carry 1 round short(old school) per mag , so 11. 6+5 instead of 7+6 I figure, If I ever run into a situation where I need 13 instead of/or even 11 , I should not have been there in the first place, and luck is going to rule that situation anyway., no matter if I had 11, 13, or 30 or 50. The cliaber arguement is, most 9mm's even small ones are too big to carry in shorts/hot weather/beach/ect. And that is the most important thing. "program compliance", the little gun in your pocket is better than your cannon at home/in your car/truck

*SIGH*
Paul these are such great videos! Never stop man. Have a good one
two thumbs up. you answered important questions for and my decision of which one to buy. thank you.
Another interesting and informative video. Thanks!
Love the videos, Paul. Keep up the great work.
Recently purchased a LCP to compliment my Sccy CPX-2. So far I like this little gun. Makes my 9 feel like a tank after handling the LCP.
sccy guns are pieces of shit please get a better gun
Who the hell down voted? Great video man.
A yeagerbot.
the_butchah Some of the video is too far from the subject. Maybe that bothered some folks.
What +MyNameIsLegion said, plus a couple who are insecure in their manhood and didn't like Paul's pink gun...
@@adamthestimator oh! I didn't even notice that he has a pink gun until now that you mentioned it :D
17 pissed off Fudds
I love your videos you think of everything I could ever think of and do it in a way I would no bs just facts keep it up man.
Great video Paul. 8:12 is exactly why i'm thinking about trading my LC9 for an LCP.
ive carred single stack 9s, double stack full size pistols, revolvers you name it, and the gun I have on me always is my keltec p3at.
Great video awesome presentation, thank you.
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Another Excellent and Spot on Video the Meat Target Never Disappoints 😎👍🏼😀 Thanks Paul
Thanks Paul.I enjoy your videos.
This guy is awesome. Never get tired of his vids.
Great videos and info. Thank you.
This is very good. I tend to use critical defense as carry ammo. This was very instructive.
Seems like every week or so you're chalking up a few thousand more subscribers! That's great. I hope to be around when you hit a million!
I’m going back and watching Paul’s old vids these days. Are you still around to see the growth and success Paul’s channel has had?
@@garret4419 you better believe it! Couldn't have happened to a better man!
Awsome video as always. I have those two exact same pistols. Including the frame color on the lcp.
I'll be buying and LCP II instead of an LC9 as my first carry pistol. Thanks for the video!
Another great video--thanks!
Great video Paul thank you I just bought an LCP
Paul shooting the Ruger LCP reminds me of the "Noisy Cricket" from MIB
it's got a very snappy recoil, weighs so little that felt recoil is more like a .357
Thank you and hope all is well.
That's impressive. 7 in. x 9 in. x 8 ft. Used Creosote-Treated Railroad Tie.
Yeah the amount of debate about calibers and models of guns with differing capacities always amuses me. Seems if you have the leisure time to argue this stuff you probably aren't living in circumstances that will put you in harms way.
6:07 vs 5:07 sealed the deal for me. 9mm it is (or even .357 mag!!)
Excellent as always.
love the vid's Paul.coming from Australia I'd love to be able to go plinking with a hand gun but not allowed,at the same time I'm probably glad I don't have to consider carrying one for personal protection.
Another great video. Thanks for sharing. :)
Paul --- (ex mil here too) --- excellent work and we appreciate your insights. I'd be interested in seeing how the newer Custom (trigger upgrade) and LCP II do wrt trigger pull, reset, etc. VR/ GR
BTW (I use to live in Seattle)............can't be the Pacific Northwest for spectacular beauty.
I have both and totally agree. The LCP is an easy carry and for that reason, it's my #1 personal carry pistol. Very nice video.
great vid as always brother
Great video. I bought both.
Thanks for making the LCP vs LC9 video.
Hope you can get the LC9s and LCP2 for a comparison. I'm looking for a change in my concealed carry.
Your videos are the best on RUclips. Thanks
Sig p365, if you can get on a waitlist to buy it. beautiful shooting gun.
Thumbs up.
Great video!!
Is that a banana in your pocket? Nope, just my LC9.
Great review!
9mm kurz
Holy hell, thats the first thing i ever heard .380 called 40 years ago and in the very next sentence... the 9mm short!!!
I love th meat target...and the hi tech fleece. Please don't ever change them!
Nice comparison!
awesome videos
Thanks for another great video.
But I must admit, I always weep at the thought of those pork chops not being fried and going onto MY plate.
Good video. The LCP is great as a backup pocket pistol.
Another great video and why I am a subscriber with notifications turn ed on I usually share with my gun friends
I have both and carry both love this video
I have an LCP. I have put a Hogue grip on it, which makes it much more comfortable to hold and shoot, while still fitting into my holsters.
my favourate channel
Thank you again for another great and informative video.
You may want to take a look at the Micro Desert Eagle 380.
I plan to do a series on comparable .380's and 9MM's LCP2 vs. LC9 pro will be out later this week. I'll do more as I can obtain guns.
Thank you Paul. Love your videos!
4 things.
Excellent!
Thank you Paul.
Near the end, when you pocketed the LCP, that shot fired in the background was not well timed.
I know! My reaction was, "oh, shhhhi..., oh okay."
Phew!
He probably wouldn't flinch even if he did get hurt... he'd be too busy delivering quality #facts on accidental (machine-caused) vs negligent (operator-caused) discharge.
Like a boss. 😎
Hector Andem I’d expect a Shatner-esque pause, nothing more.
Tks
Well done !
Thanks. I just picked up the LC9 pro and should get the LCP 2 in a few days. Then we'll do a part two of this video.
It would give 13 rounds, but I carry 1 round short(old school) per mag , so 11. 6+5 instead of 7+6
I figure, If I ever run into a situation where I need 13 instead of/or even 11 , I should not have been there in the first place, and luck is going to rule that situation anyway., no matter if I had 11, 13, or 30 or 50.
The cliaber arguement is, most 9mm's even small ones are too big to carry in shorts/hot weather/beach/ect. And that is the most important thing. "program compliance", the little gun in your pocket is better than your cannon at home/in your car/truck
