🌼 written by, produced by, and starring daniela zárate 👽, an extraterrestrial, multi-spirit kaleidoscope of a being interested in spurring spiritual and scientific revolutions in our collective human consciousness.
🌼 29 years old
🌼 Latina with rural Mexican roots

🌼 Off the silver screen, Daniela is a biologist interested in the ecology, behavior, and evolution of social insect societies, mainly honey bees and wood ants. She completed her doctorate (PhD) in honey bee genomics and behavior at the University of California, San Diego in 2022.
🌼 Currently, she is completing a UC Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Riverside with Dr. Jessica Purcell's research group, studying supergene evolution in a native wood ant.
🌼 Daniela strongly believes in the importance and value of science communication and education and strives to make science both accessible and enjoyable for a wide audience. Her science communication style is broadly influenced by theater, dance, spoken word, comedy, and telenovelas.
🌼 She is also currently working on developing STEAM educational programming for the incarcerated communities of southern California as part of a larger prison-industrial complex abolition project. She is interested in developing courses that use zines as learning tools to promote interactive engagement with scientific topics.
🌼 When she’s not analyzing DNA sequences, you can find her papercrafting, gardening, foraging for wild mushrooms, hiking in Death Valley, or looking for horned lizards in San Diego's beautiful chaparral and desert regions.

So COOL! I love that you are in a Zines club! Thank you for sharing all of this with us. The pouches and appliques/stickers you bought to go on them are just adorable! I LOVE all the pink! I know I keep saying love, but it is true! I absolutely LOVE the Zine you made! So wonderful! I want a copy of it please! I will DM you my address. 😊 I would love if you keep posting about your Zines adventures! How fun! This is something I may look into myself. When I was in elementary, and some in middle school, I feel like I made Zines, but didn't "know" what they actually were, or know they could be used for a cause, or ANY of those great things. In fact, Daniela, maybe you can DM also. How can Zines be used to share a cause? ok, enough of me rambling. haha Thank you! Angie

Hi Angie, aww thanks so much for your interest and support, it really means a lot to me! I absolutely love Zines and they can range from fun to serious so there's always something for everyone! Absolutely, I would love to send you one of my Zines, I'll send that over in some happy mail! And yes I feel like we all have made a Zine at some point but we just don't know it. They're really cool projects. I can definitely DM you on your question but a quick answer would be to "spread awareness" through Zines. As I mentioned, many times people don't get their voices heard through traditional mediums like book publishers or news outlets so this is a way to express yourself and educate other people. They can be like educative pamphlets almost. 💖
