She would be jeopardizing the $3,200 a month in disability payments. Unless there is remote phone support that makes (a lot) more than $40k a year, there isn’t a lot of incentive there for that.
Her disability could make it hard to stick to a schedule most jobs want employees to work. She could be on medication that makes her sleep a lot, she might need to take a lot of breaks, or has to see doctors often. Also, there are a lot of remote jobs that require people to come into an office every now and again. On job sites they'll advertise remote but then you start reading the job description and it'll say that employees need to come to an office once every two weeks or something similar. Not to mention her disability check could go away if she gets a job and if the job doesn't work out she will have a hard time getting disability again.

No, Rich is stating that simply freezing credit will not stop the husband from accumulating more credit card debt. The husband will still be able to make charges on credit cards that are currently open.

@@neiscii am just informing people that freezing credit doesn’t stop “racking up more charges” as John said in this video. So in the case if these callers if her husband got a hold of her existing credit card he could run the card for charges. You have to call your credit card company or go online for it and freeze the account as well to stop more “racking up charges”
I felt bad for this caller. It’s obvious her relationship is over.She needs consistent therapy.

Saw my dad in the despair of gambling addiction. Legalizing it and making it as simple as opening an app will destroy many families.
I'm not a Christian but the Bible prohibits gambling. God tells us what not to even approach. He should know better. May God help them both.

Yep, gambling addiction is nasty. And not easy to overcome.
There's nothing wrong with gambling as long as it's in moderation like going to casino twice a month or picking your favorite lottery numbers a couple of times a week. This online stuff could lead to addiction I'd assume, thank god I've never done and not into it.
I hope she does what you suggest and I also hope she talks to an attorney. I don't see her wanting to do any of this and it won't go well for her. Hubby won't be on board.
Financial betrayal is very destructive to a marriage. If you forgive them once, they will just do it again.
If you forgive them, they are truly sorry and steps are taken to prevent it from happening again, it can be worked out.

And if he is in ministry, it is likely that she, too, is a Christian and should understand he is not in a position to lead. She sounded so shaken...perhaps it is just not "real" to her yet.

The probable addiction was because she mentioned 'medicines' online. Two plus two situation.
30,000 credit card debt means 6,000 USD interest per year ! - and she can hope he is only unreasonable with money - this could be also addiction spending.
I feel sorry for her but they have both been living beyond their means for years.
To be paying on a camper with their level of debt is madness.
17 on a camper is cheap by todays standards. Sounds like they had it for a while & was purchased while finances were better . . & she wasn’t involved in the finances up to now so Maybe he convinced her it was doable. Also it sounds like the debt problem is fairly recent. There’s a lot of judgement in these conversation threads! Yes maybe she could get an online job . . AFTER she has some time to heal & regroup! She seems to be lost. She can hardly explain what is going on. This is a call where I am not totally sure why she is calling. She seems to need to talk to a counselor like consistent therapy. She kind of makes excuses for him as well.
I would be so shocked in her place .... this would be a call for the John Delony Show - psychological advice - but I think whereever she get's through. It is possible that she cannot afford to go to a therapist, for many people going to a counselor is unheard of, they need to get aquainted with the idea. So calling and being listened to when she tells her mess - in a messy way - is the first step.

Separate finances and he’d have to pay that off on his own with a second job. They need to go to counseling though and not listen to these divorce happy folks in these comments. She is an ex-addict of some sort which is why she shows him more grace than most of you would. She understands addiction

As soon as she described the sudden CC debt, I knew it was gambling.
Dr. John’s advice that they can’t go back to the way it used to be, that everything is different now, is v. helpful if she is able to hear it. I think if they’re able to accept this, the husband and wife may be able to work together to move forward.
This is difficult for her and the husband. Cold turkey is the only solution. The alternative is divorce. Six months.

I’m 100% disabled… no hun you 100% are comfortable with not working or finding a job. There are THOUSANDS of options for people with almost any disability. This is the problem with society these days, too comfortable with receiving a government cheque. That’s no way to live.

I disagree I think that this is a problem that can be solved between the man and his wife without him losing his job.. They can sell the house and move into an apartment to be debt free.. I think that I heard that John missed important information.
Um its only 30k. Kick him out. Rent the house out and take the camper to a nice beach. Find a better man.

Your call are threw out a couple of figures that ring true to me. 3200 a month is how much a 100% disabled veteran is paid in VA disability. I myself have many friends that are 100% disabled from military service and can still go to work full time. There are indeed rare cases where people are 100% disabled and cannot go to work, but that is a rare occasion. You did not out yourself to the everyday listener, but you outed yourself to the entire military. It sounds to me like she may want to sit at home and do nothing.
But is she safe?

There was ZERO talk of divorce. You literally just made that up! Also, anytime there is addiction of any caliber whether that be drugs or alcohol for both men or women John has ALWAYS recommended separating money for safety reasons. Here he gave this guy grace and said there is no healing until he gets help with his addictions which any counselor worth their salt will tell you that!

It’s a percentage assigned by the VA that determines how much money you will get. 100% likely means she’s has multiple conditions from her service that allow her to now get paid the max amount which is about $3200 with no dependents.
It is a comparison between you and someone else your age without that injury and their ability to provide for themselves. Unlike other percentages it accumulates for a total up to 100%. So tinnitus 10%, limited mobility 40% etc, some conditions can be 100% like losing both legs.
It’s a necessary benefit offered by the VA that makes you exempt from having to pay taxes or any kind and receive a stipend. However, it’s also one of the most overused and abused VA benefit. While there are definitely people who need it and get it, there are also tons who collect it and function completely fine and would easily be able to work if they wanted to.
Usually VA….but if she was offered a buy out that sounds like a settlement

6:27 It's laughable for John to assume that a man working full time at McDonald's could afford to support two people on their own. I agree that her husband needs a job, but McDonald's sure as hell isn't going to cut it. Also Jill said she's 100% disabled but she's very clear over the phone. Maybe she can get a call center (work from home) job? She's able to communicate right now so I'm not sure why that's not an option.
The hosts handled this call poorly by jumping in all over her. Let her get the info out. I dont think their advice was sound at all. She should prioritize marriage counseling immediately. Disability is often outside of divorce, and you need, as said prior, to see divorce counsel now ALONE! I'm not preaching; I learned the hard way women can't afford to be Pollyannas. I know I never will again!😂 Bankruptcy is there for a reason. You aren't being selfish. He did this on his own, and if you don't prove this, it will also be your debt. Please don't let your religion hinder your common sense for your future and Children's if you have any. I was in shock for a year when I needed to get my life in order. You will be 80 one day, and he could say goodbye after you've blown your end-of-life $$. Please be careful. Job limitations are few after disability. I saw my ex change one i had an award.

He might be the worst but they're all bad except Dave when he was doing the show all by himself. That's how most of us started following this show.

He gave this woman so many gold insights. He’s worked with people struggling with addictions for years. Protect herself is the best advice she could get! So why don’t you stop judging? I guarantee you don’t have a PHD in counseling, bachelors in psychology, or 20 years of being in the mental health field working with many people struggling with addictions and their families. He offers all of his advice with extreme compassion and empathy!
