My A74 is hot to the touch with the screen flipped out on a tripod. The temp warning does come on-but can record 4K 10bit for as long as the media and battery will allow-set to high temp in menu. The camera really heats up quickly and shuts down when using the app and recording in S&Q mode.
Fun fact for videos shooters. Active stabilization will dona 1.1 crop. I have tested the following APSC lenses and the work very well in full frame mode: sigma 16mm f.14 sigma ART 19mm f2.8 sigma 30mm f1.4 sigma 56mm f1.4 sony pancake 16mm and 20mm f2.8 sony 10-18 f4. these lens can be used in full frame mode with very low vignetting. Since I export my videos to a 2:35:1 aspect ratio no crop in post is needed for me.
Mine over heated and shut down as well setting custom functions in the mode dial. I called Sony Professional services and they were great in listening to what I was describing, but completely perplexed as they had not heard of any over heat issues just setting up the camera. They did also suggest changing the over heat warning to high and it did resolve that issue. I used it for an interview the next day and it worked flawlessly along side my A7s3. But the idea that the sensor might be set too conservatively is the best explanation I have heard. Great suggestion and great job on this comparison!
Thanks so much Tim! Sony is a great listener. I think they will adjust this in their next firmware. I’m using the same combo as you then. 😄 Pairs so well with a7S iii 👍👍
Had this camera a year and a half and it has never overheated... Do you know there is an option to adjust the temperature setting for shut off. There is a High setting, change it to that... I know this is 2 years old so I hope you figured this out.

Other great video. Good to know we can use app to focus. Seems like a very good camera overall for the value... which lens do you prefer to use 4k60 ? I am thinking to get 35mm anamorphic... or other tamron apsc lens?

I have 2 questions : 1. Is the dial for photo/video/S&Q easily reachable by your finger. I am asking because there is no demo a7IV at the store for me to try it at this time, and it's a key feature for me 2. Do you know what settings the Record button uses when you are in Photo mode ? Is it the last setting used in Video mode (which would be amazing) or the current photo settings (which would be unfortunate, but not a big deal since there is the extra dial) Thank you !

Hi, I thank you to share your interesting video. I'd like to as a question but beforse I'd like to know if you have you ever used the Lumix GH5 MarkII. Thanks for your reply.
Hi, sure, I used GH4 and tried GH5 in the past. Haven't used GH5 MKii but I do study other camera so I can better recommend cameras to my viewers. What would you like to ask?
@@SePark I don't know how to thank you for your kind reply. I have 2 questions for you please. I had the Lumix GH5 and it broke so I have to buy another camera. I DO NOT take pictures. I only make documentaries in 4K 10 bit around the world and in remote areas of Africa, etc. to document the daily life of indigenous peoples. So above all I make videos in full sunlight. My 2 questions: 1) Is the stabilization of the Sony A7 IV equivalent to that of the Lumix GH5 MarkII? 2) In your opinion, do you see better the Sony A7 IV or the Lumix GH5 MarkII for my documentaries? I know that Sony crops and maybe shooting in bright light you don't even see the difference in video image quality between the two cameras. And then it is a bit more difficult to focus with a full frame, and I always have little time. Can you advise me between the two cameras, remembering that I don't take pictures? 1000 Thanks
@@ExploringWorldRUclips of course! For those questions 1). GH5 Mk ii has 6.5 stops of total IBIS whereas Sony A7 IV has 5.5 stops of total IBIS. That's on paper. In practice because it's a very sharp 7K downsample full frame video, if you apply warp stabilizer on post, the crop quality loss is minimal. 2). In terms of auto focus, the two camera has huge difference. GH5 Mkii even with improved auto focus still relies on contrast detect auto focus many people still reporting focus hunting. If you film in 24\25 FPS, it's a vast difference. A7 IV auto focus is very reliable. In terms of video quality, yes they both film at 10 bit. Sony's SLOG3 highlight roll off and dynamic range is much better than Panasonic GH5. Only thing is A7 IV films in UHD 4K whereas GH5 Mk ii is capable of DCI 4K. I would think the other factors may be weather sealing for your kind of work (that sounds so fun and amazing by the way!). GH5 series cameras has far superior weather sealing. Sony cameras yes they are weather sealed but still uses plastic contact points. If you encounter a lot of rain storms, GH5 Mk ii will do better. I'm curious tho, have you considered A7S III since you're not taking photos? Granted A7S III still takes really good 12 MP photos, the capability on video side is just really amazing. If you haven't seen it, take a look at the wedding video I just uploaded and take a look at the highlight roll offs. I know it's little above A7 IV price, but something to consider for anyone doing some serious video work. Hope that helps!
@@SePark WONDERFUL wedding video, my compliments. Thank you a lot for the interesting answer you gave me. Now I'd like to ask you one last question please. Beyond all the things you said to me, what would you choose to make the documentaries that I do? I tell you exactly how I move. 1) I often don't have time to think about focusing and studying the aperture, etc. etc. because the images I take often disappear after a few seconds. 2) I often can't get too close to the subject because I can risk bad moments, so I often shoot with a medium tele (zoom). In the 4/3 camera about with zoom at 30-40mm, so I need a good stability. 3) Sometimes I have to run after the natives in their daily work. 4) I often shoot with lots of light, even if the sun is sometimes covered. I film dark-skinned people on red earth. 5) I shoot almost only freehand, without a troipod or gimbail. At this point my question is: maybe a 4/3 camera can give me more for my shots? In fact I don't think there is a big difference in video image quality between the GH5 MKII and the Sony A7 IV, if they shoot in a lot of light. But maybe I'm wrong because I've never used a full frame. Then ... perhaps for the type of documentary I make, having everything in focus or almost (with a 4/3), is better than having the subject only in focus. But maybe I'm wrong. You have a great experience and I would be grateful if you would tell me: in your opinion, is better a good 4/3 camera (like a GH5 MKII) or a good full frame camera (like a Sony A7 IV) for me? 1000 thanks again
@@ExploringWorldRUclips thank you! 1). I think I can relate to "images that disappear after a few seconds". Lot of the moments I capture during a wedding happens in seconds and I don't get a second chance. Previous generation Sony cameras, it was still sometimes hit or miss. The new A7S III and A7 IV lines of Sony camera, I rely on auto focus heavily. I would now trust that auto focus better than my own ability to manual focus. I could touch the subject on my screen and as that subject crosses different objects, the focus will just follow. I think for run and gun documentary work, that alone is a huge advantage to almost make up for other minor shortcomings. 2). 3). I used 70-200mm G Master lends hand held without much shake, which has OSS. That particular lens is huge and heavy so it does need OSS. Without OSS Sony camera has something called "active stabilization" which basically adds digital stabilization and crops in about 1.1 times. Sure it's not as good as GH5 but it's very usable even with my hand shaking a little. Luckily many Sony lenses are very light, allowing me to hand hold for a long time without shaking much. The new Tamron 28-75 or even 70-180 are super light and support Sony's AF. Running though, yes that 1 extra stops of stabilization comes in handy on GH5. You'll have to decide if Auto focus is more important or 1 stop of stablization is more important. In my oppinion, stabilization can be fixed in post. Auto focus cannot. 4). I'm surprise you don't film in the dark much. Have you maybe decided not to film in pitch dark because of your camera? I can tell you once I had A7S III, there was no stopping me from filming with just a full moon light. I think to summarize it just comes down to auto focus because the difference in auto focus on these two camera are huge. Face detect, animal eye detect, touch tracking without focus breathing are all big components when it comes to good quality video in my opinion. People will forgive a shaky footage when it comes to chasing after someone documentary style. Once the subject is out of focus or it focus breathes, our minds aren't so forgiving. I also don't think there isn't a wrong camera when it comes to these two cameras. Don't get me wrong they are both great if you know how to work around each of the limitations. Haha I think that was about 1000 word answer. :) Keep up the great work. What you do is amazing!

It did but it’s completely sold out. Didn’t want to link a random one I haven’t tried. Spec wise it’s 0.3mm, 9H hardness, for A7 iv only, and one that mentions touchscreen. Hope that helps.
I just got 7M4 i had face overheating problem in this camera when i use S&Q mode camera getting overheat i used 64 170 mm sandisk memory card is this problem because of memory card ?
Hey Mohit, I don’t think it’s the memory card. This camera just has so much tech jammed packed in, it processes a lot of data even when not writing to a memory card. Putting the camera on airplane mode to turn off all WiFi and turning off stabilization does help wit the heat but it’s really just a setting on the firmware. Really hope the next firmware fixes it so I’m not stuck on high temp setting.
That's a good question. I haven't personally tried to compare the two "yet". Downsample on A7 IV possibly will allow it to be a good sharp image for being 120FPS 1080P. 4K 120 FPS on A7S III is amazing. If you want to record at 1080P 422 10 bit 120FPS on A7 IV, it's limited to S&Q mode though. I'll try it.
You just have to record 60 FPS for an hour and it will be hot enough to make you a grilled cheese. JK😁. Hopefully this camera will make us enough money to buy some sammich.
You can change the brightness from manual to sunny weather. I haven’t used this feature yet but might help for the screen brightness issue.
My A74 is hot to the touch with the screen flipped out on a tripod. The temp warning does come on-but can record 4K 10bit for as long as the media and battery will allow-set to high temp in menu. The camera really heats up quickly and shuts down when using the app and recording in S&Q mode.

Thanks JJ! Really appreciate you watching this one. Without promising a video, I plan on making an entire dual iso chart of all the picture profiles. My New Year resolution is to not promise a video and not make a video 😁😁, but I’ll make that video!
Other great video. Good to know we can use app to focus. Seems like a very good camera overall for the value... which lens do you prefer to use 4k60 ? I am thinking to get 35mm anamorphic... or other tamron apsc lens?
Thanks Scott! I appreciate you watching and commenting. All the Sirui APC-S anamorphic lens would pair with this camera well. I am currently trying Viltrox 24mm 1.8.
I have 2 questions :
1. Is the dial for photo/video/S&Q easily reachable by your finger. I am asking because there is no demo a7IV at the store for me to try it at this time, and it's a key feature for me
2. Do you know what settings the Record button uses when you are in Photo mode ? Is it the last setting used in Video mode (which would be amazing) or the current photo settings (which would be unfortunate, but not a big deal since there is the extra dial)
Thank you !
I encounter the same issue with #1 I quickly realized that I couldn't share screen protector. Have you guys look up one that fits the a7iv?
This is the one I got but it's all sold out: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MK87SSC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Since it's so new lot of the brand name screen protector hasn't made it out to the market yet. If you need it now I think long as you get something 0.3mm or thinner, 9H, and something that mentions touch screen compatible, you should be alright.
Excellent video 👍🏿
Does it heat up a lot shooting stills?
How is the BT remote range compared to the A7III or A7C?
Great video!!
So the heating problem is corrected by putting it on high? Can doing this extend the video shoorting time?
My 2 questions:
1) Is the stabilization of the Sony A7 IV equivalent to that of the Lumix GH5 MarkII?
@se do you know if the camera has an AA filter ? Most of Sony's high megapixel cameras don't , but the A7 traditional always has.
And me that only bought a screen protector for my Sony A7iv 11 months after I bought 🤡
Where did you order your a7iv camera from?
does lightroom support RAW for this yet?
Yes if you update to the latest one, it will open.
65deg???! 🥶🥶🥶 But… think of the children 🥺🔥😅 This was 💯💯💯 a perfect score video of information my friend 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 This was also “ALMOST” the perfect camera to get me to upgrade my Riii’s lol! Really hopeful for all that the next cam from Sony will be… it will be, taking my money lol 💸💸💸💨
Haha to think that in 2019 live stream, we were talking about what Sony will have to do so we don't jump ship. They keep this up I'm gonna have to lower that temp down to 55 deg. My children tolerate cold better than me. LOL
@@SePark lol!! I think I was rocking an Rii and Riii then 🤪 No jumping ship 🤞🏽 Its full steam ahead 🤞🏽 🥶 Oh no…. Lol!! Uncle Joe’s gonna send them some blankets 😭🤣🤣🤣🙌🏽
How do I show horizontal info in the EVF when shooting in vertical mode. Cant find an option for this.
Did the new protector work? Can you link?
It did but it’s completely sold out. Didn’t want to link a random one I haven’t tried. Spec wise it’s 0.3mm, 9H hardness, for A7 iv only, and one that mentions touchscreen. Hope that helps.
@@SePark Thanks, man.
Excellent video. You definitely covered many things I was unaware of in my new camera. Two thumbs up!
👌✨ thanks for the tips.
Thanks for watching and for the comment Mick!
i found out too late and already peeled the plastic off lol I was so sad
You and many of us... It did motivate me to make this video fast and early to let people know. 😁
Sony is looking like Canon now!!!
Lol. that was quick. I barely even turned it on 🤦♂️
Haha I went full Weebill Lab video mode on this. I may or may not have slept. 😁😁

How much does camera cost in Taiwan? Sony a7 iv?
Can it record 12bit external? Thanks!
what happened with the second one??
My a7s3 cage from smallrig fits a7iv
Hey Aaron, thanks for letting us know. That’s great to know. Looks like half cage from Tilta works too.🤙🤜
I’m not gonna lie it really bothered me when you spun those cameras around at the same time on the table. Too expensive😂
I don’t put Mercedes’ tires in BMW.
what does the 1080p 120fps of the a74 look like compared to the 4k 120fps of a7s3?
That's a good question. I haven't personally tried to compare the two "yet". Downsample on A7 IV possibly will allow it to be a good sharp image for being 120FPS 1080P. 4K 120 FPS on A7S III is amazing. If you want to record at 1080P 422 10 bit 120FPS on A7 IV, it's limited to S&Q mode though. I'll try it.
Does it film 25fps?
Misleading video title. Should've been named the "8 Things that are different than my A7SII"...
May your Kimchi stay fresh
But when can it make me a Sammich ?
You just have to record 60 FPS for an hour and it will be hot enough to make you a grilled cheese. JK😁. Hopefully this camera will make us enough money to buy some sammich.
