- The Corps of Royal Marines (RM) is an amphibious light infantry and also one of the five fighting arms of the Royal Navy. The marines can trace their origins back to the formation of the English Army's "Duke of York and Albany's maritime regiment of Foot" at the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company on 28 October 1664. As a highly specialised and adaptable elite light infantry force, the Royal Marines are trained for rapid deployment worldwide and capable of dealing with a wide range of threats.

its about time the marines reclaimed their commando identity of days gone by since afghan they were starting to blend in as just another regiment when in reality they are anything but
I think that is the way that the government wants it, shrink the numbers and make them a more elite unit taking on more evolving specialist roles.

@@thepymesSince ww2 they have always been commandos. You do realise that some of the support troops in this video are "British Army" who are attached to the RMs. IE, Artillery, Engineers, Logistics.

Other countries marines or naval infantry like the US Marines aren't trained up to an elite commando level. The Royal Marines Commandos are widely regarded as one of the best elite light infantry force. Their training is also grueling and difficult, one of the hardest infantry training in the world. Pls enlighten me where I'm wrong at.
@@noone-dq9wd then u should probably check back with history. The British created the Commandos back during ww2. That time the Army and Air Force had Commandos too. That time commando was a name for that unit not a general term. Today commando is a general term for a more elite soldier but not special forces, basically elite light infantry force, which is what these RMCs are, they are an elite light infantry force. The Army and Air Force disbanded their commandos after ww2, but the Royal Marines retained them, and kept their tradition till today. Commandos signify that they're elite that the average infantrymen. Candidates need to be able to do the entry fitness requirements before getting a spot at PRMC or POC for officers, if pass only they proceed to the 32 weeks training.

I have a cousin in the Royal Marines and he introduced me to airsoft and i met 2 RM guys and me and my friends made rm kits for airsoft hopefully at 18 i can join the forces to continue the family tradition! 🇨🇦 🇬🇧
What year do you hope to join? I’m applying in 2024 or 25. I don’t want to join at 18 because I want to do a few years in the navy to see if i have the mindset.

Best RM video I have EVER seen. This is incredible.
I was a Bootneck from 1961-1971 and at some point a new combat uniform was introduced.
It was a plain light olive green colour. No camouflage element to it at all. I disliked it, a lot.
It was meant to have certain waterproof qualities, which would be lost if you cleaned it in a washing machine, and maybe if you hand washed it also.
During my final training months at Lympstone a number of the training Sergeants wore WW2 pattern Denison smocks, also known as Para smocks. These items had a subtle camo pattern and looked really cool with the green beret.
The Denison smock was no longer official issue when I joined up so perhaps the training Sergeants bought them from military surplus stores.

Support roles attached to the commando are essential, but again are not Royal Marines Commandos. Why were the instructor team prevented from attending the reruns if it was a legitimate pass. Women bring no benefits to the the Commando Units other than support roles and the rare requirement for CSTs. If you were aware of what is happening on selection with Royal Marines at present you'd understand the lowering of physical and mental robustness standards are dropping at CTC. Any genuine Royal Marines Commando who knows the men, his brothers, know that personality and the presence of female energy is completely incompatible. Poole sent someone to investigate. More recently all ex regular Royal Marines VW on a pre selection course for 21, which civilians and non infantry units passed. Getting rid of bed blocks and the worst thrashings was the start of a slippery slope.

@@BigDiz Rangers are also trained in special operations apart from their elite light infantry (commando) jobs. But of course like u said, Rangers lack large scale amphibious skills like the Commandos. A similar unit to the Royal Marines Commandos (RMCs) are the Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs).

It seems like the Corps is going back to our Commando root's, let's hope so. I read these posts and people are constantly talking about fitness, it's only a small part of it you have to be able to be up for the fucking fight, have that inner aggression to ram a bayonet in some fucker. Just because such n sunch does iron man competitions means fuck all, you need to be determined, aggressive, neve give up, switched on, you need to have these basic qualities already the Corps will get you fit.
Commando roots? The Royal Marines have been commandos for only a short period of their history.
