- The Corps of Royal Marines (RM) is the United Kingdom's amphibious light infantry force, forming part of the Naval Service, along with the Royal Navy. The Royal Marines were formed in 1755 as the Royal Navy's infantry troops. However, the marines can trace their origins back to the formation of the English Army's "Duke of York and Albany's maritime regiment of Foot" at the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company on 28 October 1664.
As a highly specialised and adaptable light infantry force, the Royal Marines are trained for rapid deployment worldwide and capable of dealing with a wide range of threats. The Royal Marines are organised into a light infantry brigade (3 Commando Brigade) and a number of separate units, including 1 Assault Group Royal Marines, 43 Commando Royal Marines formerly Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines (previously the Comacchio Group), and a company strength commitment to the Special Forces Support Group. The Corps operates in all environments and climates, though particular expertise and training is spent on amphibious warfare, arctic warfare, mountain warfare, expeditionary warfare, and its commitment to the UK's Rapid Reaction Force.
Throughout its history, the Royal Marines have seen action in a number of major wars often fighting beside the British Army - including the Seven Years' War, the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, World War I and World War II. In recent times the Corps has been largely deployed in expeditionary warfare roles such as the Falklands War, the Gulf War, the Bosnian War, the Kosovo War, the Sierra Leone Civil War, the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan. The Royal Marines have close international ties with allied marine forces, particularly the United States Marine Corps and the Netherlands Marine Corps (Dutch: Korps Mariniers). Today, the Royal Marines are an elite fighting force within the British Armed forces, having undergone many substantial changes over time.

It’s because the lid is moulded to your head, the Royal is taught to do this, lining out and soak the lid in hot and cold water.
There’s no other force cherishes there lid like the royals, I know because I still have mine 41 years on.

Just want to point out the injustice currently happening in Britain with regards to Royal Marine Sgt. Alexander Blackman, AKA "Marine A". A man who's dedicated his life to his country and treated like shit by those he protects. These guys, and other countries servicemen, deserve respect for doing something all those who judge them wouldn't have the balls to do
"Marine A broke the geneva convention". The only thing he did break was the suffering of that Taliban soldier dying on the floor. That taliban bloke was hit by a huge round from an Apache, so he's going to die. He was hit in an area that would take a few minutes, if not hours to die though. That means he was suffering badly. In the video, you can hear him whimpering in pain, so really 'Marine A' was doing him and his family a favour, while protecting the country at the same time.
As a former PARA i agree 100% . But Genv Con is strict and he so he should have slotted him without the camera. Me perosnally, i would have let he meet his maker naturally and let the bastard suffer.
That’s such bullshit bringing up a serviceman on charges for killing some piece of shit that really needed killing. Happened to a US Marine also, he had been wounded the day before and the Marine next to him killed by a Hajjie playing possum. Fucking imbedded reporters! The ROE is way too strict over there, the entire Middle East should be declared a free-fire zone.
Actually technically he didn't because the Taliban are considered mercenaries and not enemy combatants and the Geneva convention only protects combatants not mercenaries

He told us, without a hint of a smile on his face, that the green beret was bulletproof. For a split second I actually believed him !!!

As someone who has had the pleasure of sharing a mess with a few marines from Lima Company, theyre the nicest people going but fucking hell they are some big blokes, made the US marines who came on board look like school kids
My father signed up in the Royal Marines aged 18 on the outbreak of WW2.
His health and mind were damaged with what he did and witnessed...I only found out in his last years when he spoke about it. Horrifying.
He gave to Britain....but then, as now, Britain gives little back to it's service men.

Harry, this isn’t Northern Ireland. (I couldn’t pass since I just watched Harry Brown the other day) I met a RM during my time in and we kept in touch for a bit. They seemed to have quite a strong bond, more so than traditional infantry, probably due to their selection and training. I’ve always been impressed by the support the UK shows their military with the township parades and marches.
Worked with Royal Marines in Deigo Garcia. Great bunch to work with. Hard chargers. Part of the reactionary force there USMC III MAF India Co. 3/9 Comm Det. 1983!
