I have the powerlifts. I've never owned another shoe of that type. But I have had my eyes on the Nike Romaleos for some time...may end up just switching them up.
I would totally agree. I myself also started first with a pair of powerlift 2.0's and upgraded to adipowers after a few months. Never looked back since.
Bought Reebok lifter plus 2.0 on sale to try Olympic lifting - loved the sport and decided I would switch the Romaleo's .... I do NOT regret buying the nikes Wish I had bought them at first Fantastic shoe
After using good old Chuck Taylor's for years I got a pair of Adipowers on cyber Monday. $76 taxes in from adidas website. I can't believe how solid they are. Going from chucks to adipowers has blown my mind. If I knew how much of a difference they make I would have spent the $200 a long time ago. Always enjoying your videos!
I've had these shoes for about 2-3 years now, I've had no problems with them. I was originally able to get them for $75, maybe one day I will make the jump to the higher priced shoes. Actually got these shoes because of reviews/ your channel.
Perfectly explained. My powerlifts started to fall apart pretty quickly. 0.1 of an inch is really not that big of a difference but I think the difference is exaggerated when the heels compress. I remember watching a video of Leana Carr and Marisa Inda squatting the same weight but with different shoes. Leanna had the powerlifts and they compressed like crazy.
You dont need to spend a fuck ton on oly shoes. Go to maxbarbell if you live in the states they have tons of clearance sales out of no where. They had a pair of wei reis for fucking $45 and free shipping yesterday. They also have a pair of Sabos for 75 and free shipping with a higher heel height than adi powers and Romelos (0.77 vs 0.75) and they're double strapped. Solid shoes solid price. No need for 150+ dollar shoes that you use 1-3 times a week.
I own the sabo powerlifts as well for about two years now and have loved squatting in them. The biggest advantage they have over the adidas powerlifts is simply the construction material used in the heel (plastic/TPU vs. rubber) so the base feels alot more solid and not "bouncy". I do not own adipowers or romaleos but at the price point of $75 they are really an underrated shoe that is much more cost effective if you're looking for something similar to the adipower/romaleo style
matthew nguyen Exactly im super glad i found these, one of my buddies has to adi powers and after wearing them for a squat and bench session they feel about the same. The adi powers feel a little bit more secure but not enough to make their price point worth it.
Which one would you say is better? Addipowers or romaleos? I heard from someone addipowers are better for heel support, and romaleos are better for front foot support, since you have experience with both do you know if this is true?
Happy to see this honestly, because I purchased the adipower 2 directly thinking that they would be worth it, but my opinion over time had changed, but seeing this make me this it was worth the investent.
I bought a pair of black Adipowers and got them on sale for $140. I had an Amazon order for the $90 Adidas Powerlift but after this video I cancelled them. These are my first weightlifting shoes and it was overdue as I am presently doing squats in the 315 lbs range after 5 months of weight training with running shoes. I am not sure if I should thank you or hate you but we will see how these Adipowers work when I squat and overhead press with them.
Brandon, would you recommend your Odin Strengthshop Sleeves? I can't decide between SBD's and them. SBD's are a bit too pricy to me, and Strengthshop ones look decent, what is your opinion on them?
I've been searching for information about squat/deadlift shoes in general when I found your channel. Really enjoying your videos man. Subscribed!!! PS: I just ordered my powerlifts 3.1 and I can't wait to get my hands on them. My squat really really improved when I used my friend's pair. Also my coach suggested to start with the adidas powerlift cause its an easy/safe start for a squat shoe.
Do you feel like lifters compound ankle mobility issues? Instead of working on ankle mobility just going for raised heels. Just wondered how you feel on that. I've never had a pair so just intrigued. Cheers for the vids big B.
I was contemplating Powerlifts vs Adipowers/Romaleos but when I considered I'd eventually graduate to one of the higher end shoes anyway, I just waited. Luckily, I found a pair of Romaleos on Eastbay for a great deal. Glad I waited!
When I went from Powerlifts to Adipowers it was like my feet were glued to the floor and they were so well supported. I sold my Powerlifts and I managed to swoop my Adipowers for £120 on eBay.
I almost bought a pair of powerlifts, and was very close to buying a pair because the 3.0s were out. However, I developed a very wide stance for stability, because of my knees that naturally point outwards along with a minor leg discrepancy so I am not sure if there would be any point in me getting some Oly shoes. I do most of my lifting in the Reebok crossfit lites anyway.
My powerlifts collect dust aswell. Looks just like new. Now using Adipower since roughly a year back. However I sometimes try to squat with reebok powershoes (flat and used for my deadlifts) which somehow feels more powerful for me to squat in but at the same time awkward. So.. it's a tough choice, depth has to be reached aswell.
based on personal experience, adipower feels a lot better than powerlift or chuck.. perhaps because I squat high bar with relatively narrow stance. but I get that not everyone has extra $150 -$200 to spend. especially in my country, where adipower and romaleos usually never sold under $200
Although I value your opinion and see what you're saying I think comparing them to two more expensive shoes is what the problem is here. Yes I already realise that you have probably addressed this yourself. But perhaps as a transfer shoe from flats to olie these do have their place in the market. You can use them for a year or 2, and move on to more a shoe with more features if you feel you wanna progress and invest more?
@@BasementBrandon fair mate. im in the process of chosing my first pair, and its taken over a week to decide so far. simply because i know i want these shoes to last 5+ years.
They're very similar to this shoe. I find the heel not as nice as the one that's on the Adipowers, but you can get the PP3s for around $100 which I think is a good deal if you want a pair of olympic shoes.
If you buy at the right time, Romaleo 3's aren't so pricey; I price-matched and then combined with the Xmas 2017 holiday discount and got black/white ones from Dick's for under $100. Def worth the upgrade, indeed.
I squat and deadlift barefoot, though I can get away with it at home. Feel like shoes limit my lifts. However I don't compete so idk the rules or any of that stuff.
Also check out the inov8 fastlift that is cheper than the Adipower and offers roughly the same support, I tried them one day because a friend of mine bought them and I didn't want to give them back lol.
it seems like the main issue you had was with the compression in the soles, but do you think id have this issue because i dont lift nearly as much as you do. (i dont squat over 315)
Reebok Crossfit TR Lights. Got to go with flats, I have romaleos but I feel they pitch me forward in my squat. BTW appreciate your channel, because of you and the Campbell/blevins special I ran, I was able to find Garrett, who is now coaching me 1on1.
My romaleos are the best investment I made because of my long ass legs. Many think I was crazy spending 220 Euros because before the 2016 Olympics there was only one store shipping to europe. But if you think of it you only wear it 2 times a week for 2 hours or so. If you keep them clean you can go on for many years with them. So in the long run it is better to buy the expensive ones rather than a cheaper pair first.
There's a man at my gym that has the same pair of olympics shoes since late 90s and they're still in good shape. With that mentality, I decided to go with the best shoe (Adipower) thinking better quality = better longevity. Found them also with a 15% discount on a German site and bought them for 140 euro (152$) instead of 90-100 euro (98-108$) for the Powerlifts.
I wouldn't recommend that as it's not really "safe" IMO. But it can give you an idea of what a heeled shoe would feel like to help you make a decision to purchase.
Im going to experiment with the powerlifts because im squatting slightly narrower than before (i squat wide) so i dont feel comfortable going for a something with a higher heel than a .6
Im re-thinking it now. I was going to buy the Powerlifts 3 but I saw some really cheap Power Perfect III, under 100€. I have some doubts on the heel on the Power Perfects being too high for me. Ive never lifted with any weightlifting shoe and I have some patellar tracking problems with my knee so Im just messing around with some ideas What would you recomend?
@@BasementBrandon Im aiming to olympic squat since I dont feel pain in my knee. It just clicks and I dont even notice it while squating. Thanks for your answer. BTW with amazon premium I didnt pay shipping costs so the Power Perfects 3 were 88€

i can get the powerlifts for in germany now for 37€ ! but also someone showed me the nobull for almost 9 times that price now iam torn i like to have them but i also like be able to pay rent
Brandon Campbell Your review was spot on btw. I love my powerlift 2's, but I can tell the adipowers look way more stable at the base just because the outsole looks so solid. A step up from the chucks, but given Rogue's current sale on the Adipowers I almost wish I'd waited.
my main problem is that they have different heel heights and people have different preferences on height but the powerlift is clearly an all around inferior shoe. so its either firmness of the adipower or romaleo with a 3/4 heel or the squishy 1/2 inch of powerlift. hell some people even like 1 inch heels but then you need to buy expensive brands with wood heels that just don't look quite as professional. that's a shitty decision to make. I think it'd be smart on adidas and Nike's part to make variants of the adipowers and romaleos with the same exact design but varying heel heights. so like a 1/4 inch adipower, 1/2, 3/4 and a 1 inch variant available. hell even a flat adipower would be nice because its hard to come by good flat shoes that are firm and have the strap over the midfoot. the same shoe but with the decision to pick a different heel when buying would honestly be a dream for powerlifters and Olympic lifters and idk why either company hasn't done this yet
I have the adidas power perfect II. Anyone that have an opinion on if it's really worth upgrading to adi powers? What I like about the power perfect is that the heel is very large, which I pretty much need because I have super long femurs. Is the adi power heel smaller? It looks like it in the pictures but I have never seen any of them up close irl so I can't really confirm it.
Ah okay, thank you very much. I think the 1 inch is better for me then. Btw thanks for a great review on the inzer belt. I bought one, got it this week, I am super happy with it! Was a little bit of a hazzle to find one in Europe but I did find one so :)
NO hard feelings but for 5 years I have ruined one pair of Adidas Powerlifts and now I ordered my second pair Adidas Powerlift 3 :) So .... second pair for a lifetime :) ! God Bless!

I don't think deadlifting with a heel is too ideal IMO.
i can get the powerlifts for in germany now for 37€ ! but also someone showed me the nobull for almost 9 times that price now iam torn i like to have them but i also like be able to pay rent
Lol good point
I got my adipower 2's for 15$ at ross. If theyre good enough for Brett Gibbs, David Woolson and Stan Efferding theyre good enough for me.
powerlifts*
Nice.
could you do some type of "shoes show"?
I'm sure I could
Ever tried the Leistungs?
I haven't!
Brandon Campbell Your review was spot on btw. I love my powerlift 2's, but I can tell the adipowers look way more stable at the base just because the outsole looks so solid. A step up from the chucks, but given Rogue's current sale on the Adipowers I almost wish I'd waited.
You'd be surprised someone out there would happily buy them off of you Brandon (Ew used shoes right?). I sold my Adipowers after a years use.
Tough to find people who need a size 14!
Inov-8 are the way to go bro
Yeah?
Can i have them???
sure, $200!
my main problem is that they have different heel heights and people have different preferences on height but the powerlift is clearly an all around inferior shoe. so its either firmness of the adipower or romaleo with a 3/4 heel or the squishy 1/2 inch of powerlift. hell some people even like 1 inch heels but then you need to buy expensive brands with wood heels that just don't look quite as professional. that's a shitty decision to make.
Hopefully with all the interested in weightlifting shoes these days they do that.
Joe w indoor soccer shoes are comfortable and looks nice. I love them and i use them for all my lifts.
One more thing, can you hook a brother up with that decal on the platform ;)
I just went through echodesign! Can send you a file if you want to do the same
Buy nice or buy twice. Adipowers/Romaleos are the best. Get them.
Some do really well in the powerlifts (like Brett Gibbs), just not for me!
Goes for all other equipments as well, the expensive one is probably the best one
There are more expensive shoes out there as well, I think eventually there's a point where you don't get the return.
I believe the power perfect IIs have a 1" heel, the adipowers have a .75"
Ah okay, thank you very much. I think the 1 inch is better for me then.
Btw thanks for a great review on the inzer belt. I bought one, got it this week, I am super happy with it!
Was a little bit of a hazzle to find one in Europe but I did find one so :)
Nice!
Ye I'm worried about them being squishy. But I'm trying them anyway
Right on
Titan Contenders or Olympians squat boots. Expensive ($210 & $250 respectively). Worth it. Once in a lifetime squat boots.
Nice
NO hard feelings but for 5 years I have ruined one pair of Adidas Powerlifts and now I ordered my second pair Adidas Powerlift 3 :) So .... second pair for a lifetime :) ! God Bless!
Nice!!
Holy Shit! Someone who is actually articulate. No douchey mannerism either.
Eh I'm pretty douchey!
