Grant Stone Diesel Boots Review and Resole

- These were sent in for a makeover. The customer had a vision on what he wanted his boots to look like. So with a few conversations, we came up with this. It was a tough one though, the boots are 13EEE so the Dr. Sole barely fit. But in the end, it turned out exactly what the customer had visioned.

Thanks for the shoutout! Boots came out great! Grant Stones are some of the hardest to take apart. Their adhesive work is top notch
As a warehouse worker at Grant Stone, I love the job you did on these. They look great.
I just love the running joke about sharpening the razor blades. I was laughing when you said if we have a weak stomach to look away because I knew what was coming haha! Take care, Steve!
It looks like those Dr. Sole from Taiwan are gaining in popularity.
Everybody always compares grant stone to Alden saying that they are the new Alden. I was so excited to see you do this video to see what you, a big Alden fan, would think about them.
Thank you for posting as always! Excellent video.
I have a pair of Alden Indy boots. I'm never buying another pair. Won't need to. That's how good they are. Which also means that I won't need to buy a pair of Grant Stone.
@@chinatownboy3368yea, until all that leatherboard disintegrates…
@@whereRbearsTeeth yeah I own Alden Indies and they’re far from perfect. I do like them, but there are lots of other flaws besides the fiberboard.
Great work Steve a nice new welt and sole even with the slight imperfection that nobody noticed until you told us a really nice pair of boots the customer reaction said it all top notch once again 👍
Heads explode as Bedo goes in-your-face with the utility knife blade sharpening.
"Hey Man, those blades are like a dollar a hundred!"
Love it!
My closet shelf used to knock some sense into me, every time she caught me in another closet with another shelf.
Hi Steve, those boots are a BEAUTIFUL colour, and that double red stitching adds a great detail. As always...much love and respect to you and yours from the UK 👍
Great video! Love seeing a happy customer. Beautiful work Steve!
That’s so awesome I love customer reactions ❤❤❤ The boots were beautifully done. Great job 😊
As always amazing work Steve.
Great video. Customer reactions are a brilliant addition if you ask me. Reading comments from other cobblers is informative.
My Saturday is starting out right, thanks Steve!
A talented artist, the drawing is wonderful.
The only suggestion I would have is to show the original boot at the end so we can really appreciate the change you made. Easy to forget how the boots looked when they came into the shop. Otherwise, great job. They look like a more expensive boot now.
Where have you been!!! We miss your videos
Can’t ask for a better result: a happy customer.
Hi steve, very nice job as usual.
Love a bit of red stitching. Great work Steve.
Hi Steve, great job as usual.
Thanks Steve. Another great job. 🥾
Awesome job Steve!
Just another day at the office for the Steveroo...! The boots look great Steve and I think the soles look fine maybe a hair off but just getting them to fit must have been a real struggle... Awesome job as usual...Greg
Lookin' sharp Steve. Tim would be proud. ❤
Nice work yet again!
The soles and heels are super cool. I love them on that boot!
They are so pretty now.
Great job ❤
Big hugs from Denmark.
💝🌹🥰
The mosaic rubber Outsole looks very nice! It's creative Upgrade!
Well done. Keep up the good work
WOW!!! Those came out nice. Life is too short to wear shoes / boots you don't like. Hats off to the customer and you for making those shoes absolutely *his*. Also love the blade sharpening, I do that too after seeing you do it, always nice to get some extra life out of something!!! Trigger on! Trigger on! hahahahaha
I think as always, awesome work
Well it’s been a long time since you have popped up on my feed even though I am a subbie???? RUclips can be real weird at times. Funnily enough - not actually at all funny I had a fall and got knocked unconscious, totally out of it for a few seconds. Come round with a broken nose black eyes and now have concussion- not bad for this to happen on my 69 th birthday….. absolutely no alcohol involved! Anyways I hope your head doesn’t hurt as much as mine 😜. I have missed you and glad you are back. Nothing wrong saving a penny or two sharpening disposable blades 😂
Cool boots, thanks for the video.
solid china shoes. cracked me up wen you said " turn it off, fast forward " - i knew what was coming
looks great!
Very interesting… rose anvil cut a pair of these in half and didn’t come across any paper
I like the crazy guy that buys brand new Aldens and then has you add thicker soles lol.
Great video
Fantastic content 👌 👏 👍
Interesting that piece of stiff paper under the heel. I've just done a pair of Crockett & Jones Chiltern chukka boots with a similar (but)grey(UK spelling) piece of fiber/paperboard under the rand, upper lining and suede, below the leather insole. What is really odd about the Chilterns is that they have a 360 welt to outsole stitch, yet a 270 only welt! The stitch continues right around the rand section! I see no purpose ... there are 11 ring nails going from the inside heel into the heel stack... that sucker ain't going nowhere, as you say in the US. Also, once the heel is nail tight up to the rand, the heel covers the stitches and you can see them unless you pry the heel away. The shoes have never been apart, the old sole was a Dainite private label sole for Crockett &n Jones.
Nice job they have a custom look..😊
These are my cousin Terry's boots!
It's hammer time. 😊
Hey Steve. Always appreciate your videos and your skills, your a Living Legend My Man. Couple of questions : Being that those Boots are receiving rubber soles, is it necessary to have Nice JR Soles? on a different note : How thick is the Brass Toe Plates you make custom for your Clients? Is that True that the Original Triumph Toe Plates were double the thickness than they are today? I thought I heard that somewhere and thought I'd ask someone like yourself who's Knows about the History of Shoemaking being that your Father was a Bespoke shoemaker.
I usually don't put JR soles when I'm covering them up with rubber soles, but in this case i didn't have house leather big enough so I used a JR bend. most to plated are 1.5mm. lulu and triumph are steel, triumphs are just plated gold. There is a 3mm triumph that is solid brass, we only use those on double oak soles. the ones i make are solid brass and 1.5mm
I have those boots in their Navy CXL and put 30k steps in 2 days on the 3rd wear. Not bad at all!
Excellent work as always Steve! I own a pair of Grant Stones and wasn't aware of the fiberboard under the heel, little disappointing, but not the end of the world! They looked solid otherwise and are very comfortable. I'd like to see you work on a pair of Parkhurst boots, they are a Grant Stone competitor boot possibly with the upper hand since they use solid veg tan leather throughout!
I own both. I think GS makes a little nicer boot than Parkhurst, personally. Definitely better QC and I much prefer the Leo last over Parkhurst’s 602m last.
amazing
Maybe Grant Stone are the next pair I buy? Got Thursday captains, and BLKBRD Dixons...think I want either Grant Stone or something in that league next. I am liking the sort of $200 price bracket I am currently in.
Hi Steve....nice shirt..👍👍👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤wow awesome work
Hammer time
Gave a like just cus of that sharpening blade moment hahhaha 😂 thanks Steve
Ok it’s been 3 weeks Steve…where’s the next episode?!?!
Bellissime opere d'arte, sei un Maestro fantastico.😘👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻🍾🥂👊🏻
Hey Steve! HAMMER TIME! Geez man, you make me nervous sharpening that knife, get you some 4 inch break offs. That's what I use, sharp blade every time buddy! Great job.
I have it I just don’t use it as much
always enjoy ur work!!! i wish u had shown more of the welt attachment…what were u using the flat bed machine 4??? wasn’t welt hand sewn on???
*He always hand sews the welt on since he doesn't have a machine for that. There are machines that sew on welts in a matter of seconds. He doesn't have one. Yea he did stitch the red string on using a sewing machine. He did hand stitch the welt on for sure though.*
I use my flatbed machine to sew the vertical stitch that’s on the welt. All welts are stitched by hand
HI, STEVE!! My Poppa wore a size 17EEE!😅
Wyett Co owner of GS his father worked for Alden allen shoe for some thing 50 years and the name of Grant stones was a sales man that sold Alden allen shoe for many years
Alden Allen??

@SteveBedosLeatherwork where are you man? I'm starvin like Marvin over here for another video! Hope you are doing well.
I had one almost ready and I screwed it up. So I’ll have one soon
You don't have to lie about being clumsy, and banging your head into a shelf. Don't be ashamed that you drank too much and passed out. It happens.
I have a pair of saddle tan GS boots that could use a resole and am fairly local to Bedo.
Wonder how much this would set me back
Bring it by for us to look at
SteveBedo Leatherworks I'm stravin like Marvin for a Leather video
Why did the marketing team use "Grant Stone" and not something like "Jingna Zhang" for the shoes?
Great job as usual but i think the boots looked better the way they were.
I’m luck you’re not my customer 🤣🤣
Agreed
Grant Stone using paper lol. 😂
Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽!
hola amigo!!!!
@@BedosLeatherworksLLC You are the best my friend!
If you give clothes to your elfes then you will have to work by your own hands🤣 So keep them naked
Not bad for beginner
👍BRAVO ... ARMENYA

beauties 🎉
Hi Steve. I hope you filed a workmens comp claim. Yeah. Peace
❤❤❤😊
I’m impressed with that quality the Chinese are capable of. I wish the people would take over and if they became a representative republic they would be unstoppable.
President Xi represents us just fine. Enjoy the pandas.
😂
A nicely made boot for being made in China.
Wow
Head banger, hammer time 🔨🔨🔨😂
why dont you get the snap off razor blades? u dont need to do extra works sharpening it!!!
You are obviously in a league of your own, given your level of craftsmanship, but how does the average consumer find a cobbler you can trust and have high personal standards?
The timeless look of a Classic sole versus ones that look like the owner walked down a sidewalk littered with pigeon poop. Yeah, what a beautiful look. Gives new meaning to wearing a pair of shit-kickers, I suppose. 😕 I'm sure the craftsman is fine, but these books were murdered with an ugly-stick without question.
Is that a Norwegian welt? Thanks.
No
It’s a shame you didn’t have a fresh blade to cut that bend 😂
boots How much 3to 5 hundred bucks, then this WOW, how much are they now 800 -1000, wish I had throw away money. L'm not jealous. i have some really nice stuff too, but on boots crazy hahaa . Doesn't he do great work!!! i really enjoy his work! not many great gobblers out there any more,
👍🇨🇦🇺🇲
Have you given up on RUclips? I hope all is well.
What are you talking about???
@@BedosLeatherworksLLC such a long time since upload, and vids are more spaced out. Hey, I'm a big fan, so please don't take this the wrong way. I know you're a busy guy and work, and family life. Hope you, your team and family are all well. 👍😁🍷
@@CarlJones14 I posted 2 weeks ago and I’ll post another tomorrow
@@BedosLeatherworksLLC I commented on this video, because it was the last. Now I can see your most recent video. Wonder why? NaziTube sucks.
I am saying your videos aren't visible.
Where’s besta
Aesthetically I think the Dr. Soles, especially the half sole version, is the worst looking sole on the market. Half soles on boots, and particularly that hideous tapered swoop toward the heel are an instant turn off for me, but you always do amazing work Steve.
I think half soles look great on boots. Dr. Soles aren't my favorite, but there's nothing wrong with a nice leather sole with a rubber half sole. I think it's the best of both worlds.
When you're using paper, is there a concern that it will absorb moisture over time causing deterioration thus shortening the life of the product. When I worked in construction years ago, I was always facing the elements of rain, snow, etc. and the thought never occurred to me...but I've since learned from watching your videos. Like they say, "Ignorance is bliss."
Well not really because it’s so deep into the boot
Some people have money to waste some people have no money to waste 👀👅
“Made in China” for $400, but better construction than “Made in Massachusetts USA” Aldens that cost $600?
Yep
Funny: Selling point of Goodyear welted is the easy replacement of outsoles using old welt. Yet every other repair involves removing the welt, often for reasons of vanity. Let's admit we just like the style of construction and pay more for it. It's not economical.
This on was a flat welt and we put a split welt with double stitching, it’s just a different style
First.
