Being a Ford man, the biggest problem they have is the IFS suspension. It is the weakest link in the 4x4 arena. I'm planning a solid axle swap on my truck just to eliminate the issue.
What did it was the wheel hop. Shouldn't be that brittle though. I've seen stock Broncos have the same break. You really shouldn't be yanking on the ball hitch. Good way to kill someone. I'd stick with the Ram. It's unfortunate because those Raptors are sweet . Maybe there is an upgraded tie rod setup for them?
How can it be the wheel hop when these are supposed to handle the Baja and jumps? At least that's how it's supposed to be. It could have been the wheel hop and if so just shows Ford is building these weaker than they used to while charging more money for them.
Not Factory Wheels and Tire specs and looks to have a Level Kit, Manufacturer is definitely going to deny warranty work without even seeing the Videos. They watch the channel, definitely no chance!!
@@jonathan.sullivan not the stock wheels and tires and it’s definitely lifted or at least leveled. The angles are way off. This is not a common problem with these trucks. There are always raptor runs in Colorado, Utah, Cali and they beat on all the gen raptors and they come out just fine

The trx is definitely better in every way imo. From the looks and sound to the build quality. I’ve heard of multiple raptors breaking while doing things they are advertised to be able to handle. The first Gen raptor was insane. But they’ve gotten worse as the price has gone up a ton. I love how you replayed the video that got you in a ton of trouble with the country at the end. That stream ride was hilarious.
Missing the TRX! MY Ram got hit by a deer, yes she ran into me and did 8k of damage but she's still rolling and daily driven till it gets to the shop in January. All body damage.
@@StreetSpeed717 Must not have saw the Ram guy who snuck under your truck with a power saw lol. But all jokes aside, these truck have went through far more abuse than that, not sure what happened there.
The TRX could’ve done the exact same. You don’t floor it while wheel hoping and crawling over rocks. Add 37’s and it adds to it. There’s different types of off-roading, Mike took a Baja truck out crawling and then proceeded to floor trying to get up rather then making sure he had the correct line. You can go find video of TRX’s breaking tie rods as well. Given the circumstances, any truck could’ve.
The tie rod breaking is only part of the issue. Having to drive a V6 truck sounding like a V6 truck and then getting outrun by a stock Silverado is the bigger part of the problem. At the end of the day you have a V6 truck with stickers, a wide body and lots of excuses. I am typically a GM guy first and Ford second, but TRX is a beast. I daily a 2500HD Denali and my fun truck is a lowered regular cab turbo Silverado 4x4. A Regular cab 4x4 turbo truck is what you need to build! That is where the F150 shines! LOL
From my best guess, it was when it slipped in the leaves and hit the right front tire, wheels dont like lateral pressure, so thats where i saw that, as for the other tie rod, that makes me feel like something was actually wrong because unless that broke during recovery, i dont see where the driver side couldve broken. And you can put all all the clips of the trx doing stuff, but the truth is, nothing the trx did forced quick pressure on the side of the front tires like the raptor. Still shouldn't have broken, but its not apples to apples, you never tske the same line on the same trail twice, and condidtions are never the same
I would make it a quest to see what I could do to make the raptor bullet proof. See what aftermarket companies have to offer, plus it would be good content imo. I believe the Raptor is the better looking truck, loved the look of this one.🤷🏻♂
Omg all these people saying your recovery sucked, people with you have no clue and you just beat that poor Ford to hard. The man and his friends are used to the TRX, it drives to the offroad experience tackles what's in front of it and drives home. They are not used to needing a half day, a bunch of recovery tools and a tow truck to get home.
Please, please look into closed system winching with the proper equipment! The strap is great, but hooking to that tow hitch ball is bad new waiting to happen! You have a lot of solid content with offroading, so some good recovery gear is a must for you and Bobby
Also, Take the TRX up that same trail and see how it does compared to the Ford. I have always been a Ford fan, but the TRX is way better than the Raptor in my humble, pleeb opinion😂
Bronco folks have been bending and breaking tie-rods for the last year and some aftermarket companies are making beefy tie-rods and sleeves or braces and stiffen the stock tie rods. Maybe that needs to be done on the F150 Raptor as well as the Bronco.
I'm a Ford guy...and all I can think is that with the 37" package, they should be beefing up some suspension and steering components as well, which I'm sure they are not. Turning and handling the 37" tires with those dinky tie rods seems kind of crazy...
I don't blame you Mike I would keep the ram and sell that ford to someone else. I wouldn't have any confidence in it either after that incident. At least you know what the ram is capable of and sounds like it was definitely a blessing in disguise the ram not selling.
Both the TRX and Raptor are great trucks. I have a TRX which I love and am a huge fan of your TRX videos. In this case I think Chevrolet can make a great commercial from your footage "saving the day" for the Raptor.
37s r pretty big, there is a reason why manufacturer's didn't sell them on a truck and u just figured out a big reason why. People dont go that big without upgrading other suspension parts and heavier duty tie rods. Get your raptor modded with beefier parts and keep it.
Mike what is up with the IR lights flashing on the inside of the raptor right next to the mirror. You can only see them on camera but I've never seen that before?
Hey Mike, please never pull each other out using the ball on the tow hitch. Ita actually extremely dangerous and there have been instances where it breaks and the ball goes flying through the windshield of the car being pulled. They make D ring hitches, they’re only around $20-40 depending what brand you buy and they’ll save your life.
Just like my Bronco that Matt's Recovered this past spring in Southern Utah. I'm shocked that Ford hasn't come correct and created THE ultimate tie-rod to compensate for such a massive fail on Broncos and Raptors. Honestly I wanna see what type of crazy build you can do with the ZR2 Silverado...
Just needs a whipple 3.0
Same! Put a Zl1 engine in it lift it and put 35s on it

Small tip, don't pull from the tow ball, I've seen one of them break and go flying at the car being towed!! Great video as always!!
That's why I was ducking behind the dash🤣
@@StreetSpeed717 smart man haha
A hitch receiver should definitely be strong enough to pull its own weight, must have been rusted or operator error or cheap hitch/pins
That just killed a guy a weeks weeks ago( hitch broke and shot back through the windshield killing him). There's info flying around the internet about it with proper documentation about what happened if anyone wants to read up about it
@@jbb5543 prob an old junk hitch too
That was a definite part failure, not so much a design failure. Those tierods looked really small. They need much beefier units for sure
Dude, the TRX was a beast I completely forgot it was independent suspension the way you beat on it. That’s really impressive nothing broke especially for a Chrysler product.
It gives me anxiety watching them wheel. I know the people who started Rausch Creek. Back in the day we helped open new trails with the club we were with. Seeing these two balls to the walls full throttle wheelin. Crazy! Try airing the tires down to 15psi put it in 4 low and crawl over the obstacles. I promise you are going to be very easy on parts. Instead of throttling your way over everything and bouncing over everything and wondering why you broke parts.
Something is off here... Either something hit it and bent/messed them up or someone messed with them when they did the modifications and messed them up. People beat on these things (including me) without any issues like this. Regardless, TRX or Raptor - both of them have had their 1 off issues but before slamming the Gen 3 as trash you should get this fixed and take it back to the trail.
^^^^ Yes
Probably wants to bash on it for 1. Views 2. In hopes Ford reaches out to him 3. Both lol
@@zandaughtry7936 He definitely does it for views I'm sure. I get the business he's in but it's like selling yourself to the devil. The TRX vs. Raptor stuff get's old. Both are great vehicles for different reasons... but there simply isn't a truck that's more tested and proven offroad than the Raptor. That doesn't take anything away from the TRX, it's just how it is when you have a 10+ year head start. I love TRX giving the competition to Ford... It's great for everyone.
Thank God Bobby stayed true to Chevrolet and brought a vehicle that while may not be the quickest, but is built to get everyone home, and get everyone home alive.
That’s ironic since the Cylinder deactivation kills the GM motors 🤫
Ls power baby and you can delete the cylinder deact bs real quick haha
@@TexasDmax_2k still has notoriously shitty lifters and top end associated with it? Why would anyone buy a truck you need to bulletproof to be reliable? My buddy just had his 6.2 GM motor blow up with 53k miles..
Don’t hook to the hitch. These guys are great content creators. Everyone loves watching a fire.
Yeah. They helped prove Chevy makes a strong hitch but people could of lost their head from this. There is a safety video about it with a tragic accident in Utah where a father died from the hitch flying through the windshield.
A guy died recently doing this tried to pull him out of a mud hole and the strap came off the hitch and back through the windscreen
You do recall jumping a gen two Raptor with very minimal damage, and then totaling a Trx right with a same jump (albeit a bit faster)?
I’ve owed 3 raptors, and honestly I’d rather try the TRX next time. Not because Raptor is junk though, but because I’m tired of the v6 TT ECOBOOST.
I'm a Ford guy and that was a bit disappointing! I do want to say it was scary watching you use that kinetic rope hooked to the tow ball of the recovery truck. You need to get proper gear for recovery. Those tow balls are not meant for that and do break and kill people. I enjoy your videos and want you all to stay safe and keep the content flowing!
and the guy with the camera shouldn't stay in the snapback zone of the rope, you never know..
What I would do? Find upgraded tie rods and send it again. 37s and wheel hopping is asking for them to break. I wouldn't throw out hope for a component breaking. Now catastrophic failure like an engine, diffs, or trans yeah I would throw it away
^^^^
Dude ran monster truck tires on the TRX and did worse to it and nothing broke it’s just that Ford is crap
@irob rf the cateye chevys were known for tierods in early 2000s. Did people throw the trucks away or did they upgrade the tierods?
Always enjoy the videos guys!
Ditch the Ford & Keep the TRX.
Oh and maybe also watch a few of Matt's Off road recovery videos. Never ever pull from a Hitch Ball. Get a pintle hitch & some soft shackles to hook up to the Yankeem rope. And NEVER run over the ropes lol. Even Heavy D will tell you that one. HaHa. Keep up the great work guys.
Was waiting for the projectile…
That strap on the ball is deadly!!
Goodbye raptor welcome back trusty TRX and that beautiful V8 sound.
I would stay with the Ram! Ford for me has also been nothing but problems
Seems like they just threw 37’s on a regular raptor and called it “the 37 package” lol
Best part of the video. The genuine whaat from mike Love it. It’s so rare. That’s how you know it’s bad. I’m glad your ok bud. Loving the hair and your laugh also keep doing 3:38 whaat please
The hopping in 4 low broke it, would have happened to any IFS truck. People have made fun of chevy for years for this same problem on the HD trucks but this Raptor weighs damn close to an HD truck and still has IFS. Love your videos Mike but this was most likely not the trucks fault. Could have been factory defect who knows…
Weird because it didn't happen to any of the other IFS trucks we did the same exact stuff with🤣 Did you not see the TRX footage on 44"s?
@@StreetSpeed717 Yessir, I would also question the quality of the modifications made by the previous owner but I’m sure you’ll fix it better than stock. Just like on your duramax you put the stronger tie rods. 😎
@@jensenleblanc I’d have to agree with you, those 37” MTs weight a ton. While it should definitely be able to handle it stock, those axle angles don’t look stock to me
@@justing224 Yes, looks like a level kit to me, which if you go too much with those without dropping the IFS it will break CV shafts and tie rods much easier. The hopping is tough on any truck so an improperly modified one is going to be even worse, we will find out soon I’m sure.
It time for a complete front solid straight axle under it. It’s bulletproof. Trust me. Loves all your videos.
@@TroutButter they do handle the baja lol bro just had faulty tie rods i’m sure there will be a recall
I wonder if the dealer will try to deny the warranty based on the wheel offset or width being different than stock.
Most likely. Ford warranty companies are assholes...
It's a factory 37" package on the cRaptor, hard to deny that warranty.
Not Factory Wheels and Tire specs and looks to have a Level Kit, Manufacturer is definitely going to deny warranty work without even seeing the Videos. They watch the channel, definitely no chance!!
You would think, but dealerships make more money when a customer pays, so they may try to blame it on the aftermarket wheel width or offset.
@@jonathan.sullivan not the stock wheels and tires and it’s definitely lifted or at least leveled. The angles are way off. This is not a common problem with these trucks. There are always raptor runs in Colorado, Utah, Cali and they beat on all the gen raptors and they come out just fine
you teased broken tie rod for 3 days?! hopefully you get some beefier ones
Was really cool to see you guys recover the Raptor. I think you should keep the TRX and sell the Raptor
If you hold the tailgate switch it should close on its own. My F-150 Temor has that option.
Should get a new Defender and test it off road!!
Would only make it a foot into the trails prolly
@@landon5990 lol okay
Them tie rods broke way too easy. Time to upgrade to some beefy ones lol
On a TRX lol
Time to go back a TRX. Never should have traded it
Then build a TRX around them.
For a truck that's supposed to handle the Baja, this should have never happened. I don't think these newer gen Raptors are built as well as the 1st gen which DID go down the Baja 1000.
staged..
That broke waaay too easy 🤦♂️
Keep the TRX, we don’t need new content with the TRX. It’s just a better all around truck for you. And I agree to getting rid of that raptor. It broke way to easy and that lil 6 sucks to hear. I’m glad the trx didn’t sell!
From the thumb nail i most likely called it last video with the tie rods. I am sorry Mike you had a big part failure like that. But I know you will come out better on the other side. Keep up the awesome work.
Wanna cookie? That’s chevys specialty. Ever heard the song? “Dashing through the snow in a recalled Chevrolet, over the hills we go till our tire rods break.🎶🎶
@@1996FordBronco A cookie about what? Because he saw some broken tie Rods and pointed out the obvious? Lmao Scott Disch never talked smack about ford you unintelligent idiot. 😂😂
Iv always wondered how the three trucks stacked up against each other
Wait, this isn't a feature from the factory?? Oh....😁
I think it’s pretty ironic that the Raptor was getting towed away by a RAM Cummins. 😂😂😂
In the future, probably not a good idea to be pulling from that ball on that little draw bar...lucky it didn't shear sending it straight through the windshield...
I truly loved this video seeing you guys recover it was so funny and shows me that you are not as perfect as you appear to be off roading or something with fast cars always turns out good this not so much
Definitely keep the TRX content Mike because Rams are rugged and fast but honestly I would like to see how the Raptor R will hold up on the trails and on the streets, thanks my friend for the dope content your team has the best car and truck videos on RUclips .. 💯 % true 👍
I love how you had Bobby just give his truck absolute hell and then you decide to try the winch lmao
That's either a factory defect or someone messed something up during that custom work...
Suspension and mechanical stuff appears to be 100% stock from what I can see
It's junk, just like the IFS on the Bronco.
@@StreetSpeed717 Must not have saw the Ram guy who snuck under your truck with a power saw lol. But all jokes aside, these truck have went through far more abuse than that, not sure what happened there.
Should have kept the trx. Imagine what will happen to the raptor R
@@demongawl true but I'm saying imagine how much worse the raptor r would have been. I know I've had plenty of wheel hop never seen that
The tie rod breaking is only part of the issue.
Still shouldn't have broken, but its not apples to apples, you never tske the same line on the same trail twice, and condidtions are never the same
Excuses from the Raptor fan boyz is hilarious!
Just got my TRX a month ago. Love it so much more than a gen3 Raptor. TRX BOYZ 4 LYFE
Ahhh the TRX content that was never ment to be. Thank you for over jumping it and going down in history lol
I hit a washout going 80 down a dirt road in my gen3 raptor, I didn't break a tie rod but I did rip out my fender liners .
As a ford lover this hurt but I think I like the trx better at this moment. It’s funny because I’ve seen the new broncos have the same problem
Actually puts it into perspective how strong the TRX actually is, I wouldn’t want one long term but Ford needs to step it up.
Message the number above^^^
Thanks for watching
Hey Mike, please never pull each other out using the ball on the tow hitch. Ita actually extremely dangerous and there have been instances where it breaks and the ball goes flying through the windshield of the car being pulled. They make D ring hitches, they’re only around $20-40 depending what brand you buy and they’ll save your life.
Just like my Bronco that Matt's Recovered this past spring in Southern Utah. I'm shocked that Ford hasn't come correct and created THE ultimate tie-rod to compensate for such a massive fail on Broncos and Raptors. Also, have had several of the new Rams and they're far superior quality to F-150's / Raptors (and I'm a "Ford guy" traditionally).
