I’m applying to adopt a Turkish Van :) He was rescued from the streets of Egypt and I hope to give him a loving home! Edit: I got him! His name is Fluffy :) He’s so sweet and playful and affectionate. My dream cat!!
We have a "pet quality" Turkish Van we got at an adoption event (there used to be a breeder in the area). No idea about his back story but he was just sitting there in his cage at the show, looking out out on his subjects. We almost didn't get him, we were in the parking lot getting ready to leave. But we went back in and got him, I'm so glad we did. He's getting up there in years now but he's still the friendly wonderful boy he's always been.
I was so lucky to rescue a Turkish Van from a parking lot. I’d never seen a cat with his coloring before . He’s black and white with some gray perfectly marked like a Turkish Van. He’s smart, curious and has the personality traits that was described. We love him so much.
My Turkish Van is a rather calm and cautious cat, but can really get going when toys come out. We found him as a stray born to a feral mother just after she was picked up and taken to a shelter. She was too feral to be a pet so we gave one of her kittens a good home after he weaned off of her milk. We named him Rorschach after his white and black patterns. Such a beautiful boy.
I found a kitten 2 years ago under a tree not far from my house. It was surrounded by dogs. I scared away the dogs and took the kitten to my house. It turned out to be a turkish van. I never imagined that I would find such an amazing cat in Bangladesh
My whole life I wanted a long white haired lovably cat when I went to animal care service to adopt a cat after I put my other cat to sleep there he was my dream came true he is a Turkish van it only took me 64 years to find the cat of my dreams who said dreams don't come true
I had a cat with the markings of the van but he was a short hair cat. I found him after he was abandoned when his owners moved. They lived on my Mail route. I brought him home. My husband insisted that I find him a home. After a few days finding him a new home was not mentioned again. He became my husbands cat. Lol!
Fun fact, there are less than 300 pure-bred Turkish Van cats in the US. Unless you have obtained one from a breeder with official paperwork the last 40 years, you have never had a Turkish Van. There is a such thing as a “Van pattern” which is often times confused with the rare full blooded Turkish Van. There are only 12 Catteries who breed them in America and they are extraordinarily particular as to who they will allow to adopt them. I searched and applied for 2 years before I was granted one.
That would explain Konan the cat my sister adopted in Puerto Rico. She shares some of the Turkish Van color pattern, but she is not purebreed because she was dumped in a box and abandoned. Thought at first that she was a Norwegian Forest cat.
My cat has the same pattern and alot of traits of the turkish van, doubt he is pure breed I got him from some guy in my small town he was the runt lol but is obsessed with water he has the same type of hair color of coat, and eyes.
I didn't know it or even know about Vans at the time, but I think I've got one. This vid is very validating. The cat I took home from my local shelter is all white with very faint faded black banding on the tip of his tail, and yellow-green eyes. He is -LOUD- err, has a distinct singing voice. And I was very surprised when he followed me into a shower. To wit: has a very low tolerance for being held any of the ways that cats usually accept, but wants nothing more than to sit on me. He's a good fella.
I just rescued a stray turkish Van! She was wandering my neighboorhood for a long time. I made sure to feed her and gave her water. I reached out to make sure someone wasn't looking for her. Noone claimed her, so she is part of the family now. She is the sweetest girl I have ever met ❤. I love her so much. I named her Zillah. 😊
I have a rescue Turkish Van, she's not a pure breed though, but she looks 100% like a turkish van. She's large, white, her tail is orange with a tint of dark color and she has those colors on her head as well. She even has the orange spot between her shoulders. The only thing that doesn't match the facts in the video is the water loving trait. She's not that interested in water, from what I've noticed in 4 years at least. She will play with the faucet water sometimes but that's about it. She hates rainy days as well. And she doesn't play fetch. She loves playing with the wand toy though. Otherwise, she's very intelligent, quite vocal and never really had health issues in the 4 years she's been with me. She's also quite moody 😂. Sometimes she can't get enough of me and will follow me around meowing for attention and other times she would move away if I try to pet her. I love her so much, she's my first cat. ❤️
@@boxeswithfoxes I'm sure Bambi is a lovely lady. I have another cat that's tabby, she's very small like your Bambi and I swear sometimes she feels like liquid 😂. It's weird to explain but whenever I pick her up she's really light and soft and slippery? If she were a fabric she'd be satin 😂. I've never met a cat like her before. She's been with me for 4 years now and she definitely has a strong personality.
We were looking for a kitten at a Phoenix area shelter and one kitty kept cuddling with all of us and chose us. She is a great looking cat, white with gray markings on her head and a puffy gray tail. The rescuer told us she was at least part Turkish Van, after some research she certainly has all the characteristics (I havnt seen her jump in the bathtub though). Crazy that such an awesome and rare cat would be in a shelter! She is so affectionate too, one of the best feelings waking up to a purring kitty 🐱
We have 2 Turkish Van cats, both rescues. One is a blue-eyed black and white & the other an amber-eyed grey and white. They are quite the personalities! Greating all visitors at the back door to say hi. We often say, they could easily host our dinner parties. They have to be the center of all attention from guests, dragging out their toys for playtime and always in the middle of the floor in the TV room, watching the guests as if they were part of the conversations. They play fetch, play in the water and hide toys in my hubby's 👞 shoes!!! Best kitties we have ever owned.
One more thing. They aren't water resistant, but water drains off of them super fast since they lack an additional coat. One of mine wants a bath daily. 🛁 I usually oblige.😅
Legend is that Noah had them on his ship. When it crashed into the mountain after the deluge, they swam across Lake Van in SE Turkey and settled in the Lake Van region there. That's why they like water. My cat's name is Chubz. He is a rescue. He is white with amber eyes. He has brownish markings on his head, paws and tail. He has the mark of Allah on his shoulders. He is an angel. I am blessed and grateful.🕊️💜
a turkish van just showed up at my house and we don’t know where she came from. she doesn’t let us touch her but she gets close enough to sniff our hands, so hopefully she’ll warm up
A Turkish Van appeared at our doorstep on July 4th of 2019! He isn’t a full bred though, because he has all the markings and colors, but is a shorthair so I assume he is mixed with a tabby. He looks exactly like the one pictured at 1:03. It’s so cool to me that they’re one of the rarest breeds in the world !! Definitely VERY energetic and playful
We found ours at our Petsmart that has cats from the local humane society. I'm so blessed to have our Turkish Van. We named her Goose. She is about 7 months old now, and she is at least 10 pounds. She is so big and fluffy. We love her so much.
I adopted one from the streets, she has the same marks, white with the orange head and fluffy orange tail. Thin and long nose I do believe she’s a turkish van or a very lucky random combination of colors in an ordinary cat. Im not sure based on that I found her in the streets but everywhere saying that this breed is rare and hard to find… not sure then
I have 3 turkish van triplets. they’re 4 years old. I used to own another turkish van and a tabbycat when I lived in tennessee, but I had to leave them when we moved. my old turkish van (riley) died 2 years after we left him with our friends. Riley was soooo chubby, and he had a bit of a fluffier coat. my 3 turkish vans now though are shorthaired. one of them is orange and white (sweet tea), the others are gray and white (tennessee and cowboy). sweet tea has a short tail. its only half the length of an average cat tail. he has one tiny tiny tan spot on the middle of his lower back and tan on his head. he’s the runt of his litter, and he has olive green eyes. tennessee is chubby like riley too. he’s gray and white and has one big gray spot on his back, and gray on his head. cowboy is between chubby and small. he has lots of gray spots all over him, and a very simetrical tiny face. he also has gray on his head mixed with shades of brown. I think they might be mixed with another cat breed, because they’re all shorthaired and have skinny tails. I only see long haired fluffy turkish vans online though. we adopted them at pet co in san clemente california. they were all three huddled up together sleeping. right when we walked in, we saw them and I went “its the same breed as maymer! we neeed them!” (maymer was the nickname of riley) and so we eent to a room and the workers brought them in and we hung out with them to see how they acted. sweet tea (named zigzag at the time due to his wonky short zigzag tail) meowed non stop of little happy meows. tennessee (named m&m) was a bit shy, and cowboy (named flash) was very cuddly. cowboy and tennessee kind of swapped over the years, with tenten being the cuddly one and cowboy caring less about cuddles. sweet tea still meows non stop, he’s meowed at least 50 times every day of his life since we’ve owned them. they were adopted at 2 months old and now will be 4 years and 4 months old on july 9th. (birthday : march 9th) anyways, they’re amazing cats and love drinking from the sink fosset. I definitely recommend buying one if you can!
You just forgot to mention the van lake is a former Armenian lake and the church without cross is ancient Armenian church . These cats used to be a pride of Armenians in western Armenia
If only I could post a picture. I have a cat that matches the colors and markings of the Turkish Van. Will a genealogy test show if my beloved Gizmo is indeed a Turkish Van!
I love my little man!! My boyfriend has a whole litter, they’re about two years old. They are all so intelligent! They are mainly outdoor cats but I have adopted two from my boyfriends house. One belongs to my roommate. But I have taught him to give kisses and lay down on command! I swear he acknowledges me talking to him like a person more than he would pet talk lol.
Okay so I’m confused I’ve been trying to search up my cat, jasper. He has short hair, always had yellow eyes, and he is mostly white whit one black van ear marking and a black tail with a white tip. He is very unusual I’ve never seen a cat like him. Also we got him as a kitten at a local pet shop he was way cheaper then what I’ve seen. Dose anyone have any idea my profile picture is a picture of him.
There's lots of cats that love water. Vans do, though seem to be one of those breeds that like water, cuddling, are particular to one human, similar to other larger breed cats and dogs and also will train on a leash if you start them early enough.
They're extremly smart too. My husband is a vet and once he went with his friend to take the turkish Van cat because he needed a check up. His human was injured. And the cat was afraid. My husbands friend, also a vet said he will go inside and get him. He came back scratched and with his t-shirt torn. My husband asked did e get the cat, he said :I did, I need to go see a doctor now. " Poor kitty atacked him because he was afraid and was injured himself.
Any advice about when to take them from a feral mother who was born & living outdoors? I have a cat problem that has gotten out of control...pretty certain that this is the breed.
Lol after 4 years i finnaly know that my cat is a turkish van funny thing of all of the points that he talked aboug she is not the one who likes to be pet and etc. So i did learn a lot today thank you
It's an Armenian Van Cat. Mount Ararat and the Lake Van area have historically been in Armenia (where they are supposed to be) where the Van cat originated from. This cat did not originate from Turkey. Armenia claims the home of the beautiful Van cat.
My boy is the most exciting fun loving energetic playful sweetest beauty in the world he speaks so many words he often says I don't know and where did it go when he's looking for something or when I am it's funny he sings I Love my Mama He's white with blue and the touch of God on his back between the shoulder blades he has the palest green eyes he's my best friend in the whole world he's amazing I wouldn't trade him for all the money in the world
this is so funny because my mom always makes fun of me for saying i can understand him but when i ask things like “what are you doing?” when hes up to mischief, he distinctly says “...nothing”
@@jdelfresco1634When I ask that to my boy, his reply is most often " I don't know". lol. Lately he is always asking me what are you doing. Have a fantastic day.
Our cat is a Turkish Van too,we found it with Google lens and was quite surprised..coz we're in India and her name is Ponnu..,,,🥰 She is actually very smart and lovely..
My Vans, two sisters. (both spayed) How do they rate according to this video? Let's take a look 1 ☑️ 2 ☑️ 3 ☑️ 4 ☑️ 5 ☑️ 6 ☑️ 7 ☑️ Yup my girls are Turkish Vans....100% 💕💕
Now I am a bit confused. My sister adopted a cat in the animal rescue center in Puerto Rico. At first we thought she looked a bit like Norwegian forest cat because of her fur and facial characreristics, but now I am not sure anymore. Our 11 year old cat shares the same orange-brown pattern in her fluffy tail, ears and part of her back. She is not pure breed because she was dumped in a box and abandoned. Now the big question of the century, how did this breed reached the island if they are not exported from Turkey and are rare to get?😳 By the way, Konan is a happy cat and living with her two sisters (both rescued).
As the video said, it may have been a stowaway on a boat, or been taken by merchants, military, etc. And it may have migrated elsewhere first, and then its relatives did one of the above to end up on Puerto Rico. Felicitaciones on your cats!
VAN is Armenian (today occupied by turks) you can go to VAN and ask. so this VAN CAT breed is Armenian too. you can't change the blood by occupying a land.
The information you have given is wrong... The Van cat is a single color and white, in addition, it has short hair. It is often confused with the Angora, but it can be easily distinguished by its short hair and round eyes. Here you are describing the characteristics of the Angora cat. Angora cats have different colors, especially their tails and manes are silky soft, and their eyes are almond-shaped. The bicolor eye characteristics of Van cats are blue+yellow, blue+caramel. Also, the ear on the side of the blue eye becomes deaf. In single color eyes, the colors are; Blue-caramel-yellow. Van cats with blue eyes are usually deaf. Their body build is athletic and "yes" they like water. It is forbidden to be removed from Turkey (especially in big cities such as Istanbul-İzmir-Ankara-Antalya), but you can often see this breed and Angora cat on the streets in our country. In fact, you will be surprised, but you can see many different cat breeds on the streets.
You're very much wrong. Lake Van is well within the borders of Turkey. Although the lake is part of the Armenian highlands, that region spans multiple countries, not just Armenia.
@@blakerussell6493 no one was talking about the illegal current borders of turkey now. The name Van is Armenian name. Just like Nakhijevan (in fact did you know what Nakhijevan means? It's an Armenian word meaning Before-entering-Van- so Van Cats are native Armenian cats- lucky for them, they were not part of the Armenian Genocide, so they are still around on the lands).
Van cats are Armenian cat van is Armenian lake which after Turkey attack to Armenia make van lake parts of Turkey but never that lake belong to them and cats too please put correct information before talking about sorry for your lake of information 😡
Armenians may have been in Van area for many years. But Van cats known by world as Turkish van cat. Greeks, Armenians and Turks are living in together so long that we are almost have same characteristics and culture.(exclude the religion lol.) Basically we are the same. Love, from Turkey 💚🕊️
Berra is right. Also sometimes people name dogs and cats from here they live. German Shepards or Canadian Mosk Ox for example. Van cat is in Turkey. Which makes it Turkish.
Original name is Armenian Van. Mount Ararat is Armenian noah ark landed in Armenia. After the Genocide of Armenians it turned i to turkey because they stole the land.
I’m blessed to have a Turkish van!!!

same. but mines mixed but he still has mixed eyes

My husbands friend, also a vet said he will go inside and get him. He came back scratched and with his t-shirt torn. My husband asked did e get the cat, he said :I did, I need to go see a doctor now. "
Poor kitty atacked him because he was afraid and was injured himself.
Mine LOVES a bath. I just get in the shower with her whenever she needs a shower. Like thrice in her whole life.
My baby loves his baths his cuddles his brush time. He gives me kisses!!! Hugs he thinks he owns me. He’s huge I mean chunky dunky
I had an odd eyed angora male name Mr Phineas Theodore Peabody. Mr P for short. Extremely smart and lovable.
Agent P.
Any advice about when to take them from a feral mother who was born & living outdoors?
I have a cat problem that has gotten out of control...pretty certain that this is the breed.
I think after 2-3 months they were born because they need their mother's milk, it's crucial for the kittens.
This breed of cat would make a "purr-fect" pet for demigod children of sea/water gods and goddesses.
There are many 'turkish' cats in the world...it is an old breed. I had a mutt one that cried and cried to get into the pool.
I have a Turkish Van too her name is Watermelondre😕🤣
I had a Turkish Van mix but she did not like to swim...was afraid of water...she was grey and white...grey ears and tale very long hair.
Lol after 4 years i finnaly know that my cat is a turkish van funny thing of all of the points that he talked aboug she is not the one who likes to be pet and etc. So i did learn a lot today thank you
I thought the Turkish van is pure white with 1 blue and 1 yellow eye, am I wrong? It also loves water and likes going for walks.
Turkish vans are white long haired most have a big fluffy orange tail and orange on their ears they love water
I found my Turkish van in a parking lot in a bush. Eyes still closed? probably not a pure blood looks like one he’s also obsessed with water
Kwazii of the octonaut is Turkish van cat
It's an Armenian Van Cat. Mount Ararat and the Lake Van area have historically been in Armenia (where they are supposed to be) where the Van cat originated from. This cat did not originate from Turkey. Armenia claims the home of the beautiful Van cat.
🤦🏻♂️

I have a Turkish Van ❤️
I need to identify breed ofvny cat. Can anybody help me please
My boys are both very white except the stripes on the tail that’s almost all white itself but you can’t miss the stripe though.
Now the big question of the century, how did this breed reached the island if they are not exported from Turkey and are rare to get?😳
By the way, Konan is a happy cat and living with her two sisters (both rescued).
As the video said, it may have been a stowaway on a boat, or been taken by merchants, military, etc. And it may have migrated elsewhere first, and then its relatives did one of the above to end up on Puerto Rico. Felicitaciones on your cats!
I have a turkish van mixed persian two differnt color eyes. She is very mean to other cats doesnt get along other cats

omg i got mine for free 0o0
im so lucky
Thanks for this.dont ever forget that they are smater thun us.lol
It's pronounced "Wan"
They are not Turkish, but Armenian
I have an original all white Van, the Turkish Van has little to do with the original Van.
Fun facts are the cats aren’t totally Turkey 😂
Van cats are Armenian 🇦🇲♥️
Proof God exists? the Turkish van
My Turkish van cat named bruno
Armenian Van Cats!
Turkish Van. There, corrected it for you.
Can Cats are Armenian cats. Lake Van, is an Armenian region. There is nothing "Turkish" about this.
@@vahes647 sounds like someone's a sore loser
@@blakerussell6493 absolutely- turks having nothing of their own, are sore losers.
@@vahes647 you're a little racist buddy
Armenian cat “Vana Catu” in Armenian , not turkish, Van is Armenian city and we will be back in Van 🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲

Hello cat lovers! I have a female Turkish Van cat. Her name is "Baby!" She will be 17 years old on July 4th, 2021. I wish I could add a photo!

van cats are armenian not turkish, read a little history.
Van cats are Armenian cat van is Armenian lake which after Turkey attack to Armenia make van lake parts of Turkey but never that lake belong to them and cats too please put correct information before talking about sorry for your lake of information 😡
Turkish lol. Showing lake Van, with an Armenian church saying cat has been in the area for hundreds of years yet calling it Turkish?
Armenians may have been in Van area for many years. But Van cats known by world as Turkish van cat. Greeks, Armenians and Turks are living in together so long that we are almost have same characteristics and culture.(exclude the religion lol.) Basically we are the same. Love, from Turkey 💚🕊️
Berra is right. Also sometimes people name dogs and cats from here they live. German Shepards or Canadian Mosk Ox for example. Van cat is in Turkey. Which makes it Turkish.
Lol cat comes from Turkey so it’s called turkish van 😂
You’re clueless man
