Thank you for making these vids. I'm looking into learning how to play the Ocarina and am a big Legend of Zelda fan. At first I had decided on a cheap one but since I want to seriously learn how to play I wanted to see what the best Ocarina of Time replica was while still fitting into my budget. Thank you for helping me narrow things down.
It would be great to see all ocarinas at the beginning with time cards to them and price. It would make the video better in my own opinion as a viewer who has only now stumbled onto your channel. Just a tip from my perspective. Other than that loved your enthusiasm and rating abilities along with the depth of the review!
I'm very happy with the plastic 7 hole from songbird; the fingering is a little more complicated but it's easier to hold and there are fewer fingers to keep track of! I'm a beginner and I think the fewer holes is a bonus honestly. I'm tempted to get the ceramic 7 hole just because I love the feel of it. I have 2 12-holes from STL: the yellow fairy and the blue plastic OoT. Both sound great, but the fingering takes some getting used to because I'm really bad at the subholes. Big plus for the plastic: I just leave them in the kids' toy bins. My 1 year old loves to toot on them and throw them. Ha.
ANDY I KNOW THIS IS AN OLD VIDEO BUT IT IS IMPORTANT: The link you provided to the STL ocarina leads to a really cheap amazon link that looks exactly like the listing on STL itself, even though it is from a different company. I ordered it thinking I found a super special sale given that the reviews talked about the price but it being a really good ocarina, and when it arrived today it was one of those cheap ocarinas with the hand stand. The hand stand was missing, but it was on the box and had a hole for it in the box, but it was absent. I just wanted to let you know so you can see if it is a cheap bad ocarina or not. I have played it and think I'm just really bad, but I will try and see how close the notes are to true.
This video is great, I've watched a couple of yours, but I subscribed on this one because you made mistakes on the 7-hole and you left them in when you could have just edited them out... That is a big deal in my opinion and really shows your character. Thanks for sharing your talent with us
Nice Song of Storms rendition 👌🏼 You mentioned preferring a multi-chamber - would you ever recommend it for beginners? Great video, thanks for sharing 🙂
If it's your first ocarina ever, I wouldn't recommend a multi chamber, at least not a ceramic (breakable) one. There are certain things with multi-chambers that you have to consider in addition to regular ocarina playing, such as mouth position so you don't leak air into chambers you're not playing, switching chambers effectively, and the like. It's certainly possible to start with a multi-chamber and succeed through practice, but I'd recommend a good 12-hole to get used to first, as there are fewer factors to impede you as you learn to play.
@@AndyCormierYT Fantastic, thanks for the response Andy - really appreciate you taking the time! Are all multi-chambers 6-hole. And what about them makes you say you prefer them?
Hey Andy! Curious what your thoughts would be between the Songbird double ocarina of time vs the STL double. Ive heard songbird is better build quality but more airy?
I got a Fairy Ocarina from Spencer that I'm waiting to come in 🤩 I have one STL ocarina and it's the double, which is also very ergonomically clunky (at least for me being used to an ICO triple) making it my least favorite, but I still need to collect every Zelda replica because I am financially irresponsible 😂
Yeah, ergonomics are tough on an OoT replica. The default shape's ergonomics aren't great (given the mouthpiece is almost perpendicular to the body), so other adjustments need to be made for it to work. Does that stop me from hoarding OoT replicas though? Nope
These are some really awesome replicas. But I'm so tempted to start by trying to make one myself that actually functions. I think it would be a really fun challenge. Then there's always the option to buy one as well later on which I'm really itching to do just because I love Ocarina of Time so much. 💚🥰
I got what I think is an STL Ocarina of Time replica maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Ive loved it the whole time, but it got broken - some kid knocked it about a metre onto hard tile and it broke in two. We superglued it back together so it still technically plays, but the high notes don't really work anymore and it's, you know, visibly cracked, so I'm budgeting for a new one. I don't play often so as atm I just work with what I have but I definitely want one that plays well.
Funny enough I have a double zelda ocarina...but it's from STL, AND, it's a plastic one, it came out around 2015 I think, and I can't find more info about it now, but it's the one I've been using since. It does have some problems with the D, so I'm planning on buying a ceramic one in the near future.
Great video, I enjoy your funny video presentations. I bought an STL Zelda ocarina by your recommendation, thanks to your previous video about the cheap ocarinas, phew. I didn't like the look of the plastic songbird ocarina in your video, I thought it looked ugly to be honest, the ceramic ones are way nicer looking. Keep up the good work, more ocarina videos!! I've only been playing for about a month and really enjoy it, I need to see someone on the internet making videos about ocarinas so I can feel like part of a group lol.
I plan on at MINIMUM making 2/month! Might review more of my ocarinas, might go over some advanced and oddly specific techniques, maybe some other stuff! Happy to see more people playing the ocarina!

Hey Andy question for you I’ve always wanted to learn to play the ocarina and this last Christmas my wife got one for me but I find it’s way to small in my Hands and the breath pressure has to be super low (and I’m a big guy so it’s been hard to try to keep my breath so low). It’s kind of like a small plastic kids “learner” one Would you still recommend the STL for a newcomer like me? Or since the spencer is larger might it be better to just go for broke for the larger one?
Currently Spencer isn't taking orders, but as someone with larger hands, the STL is more than large enough. Any Alto C ocarina should be big enough, whereas soprano ocarinas can be uncomfortable for us large handed folk
the 7 hole ocarina could be a good purchase for someone who wants to start playing this instrument? i would love to buy a 12 hole ocarina, but are quite expensive for me rn (and also i actually don't wanna buy an ocarina that doesn't have a zelda inspired design, to be honest)
How can you say that the songbird plastic ocarina is the most accurate one to Zelda OOT? It's easily between the 12 hole original songbird ocarina or Spencers ocarina, they are also the 2 ocarinas with most effort and high quality sound put into them aesthetically.
I just bought the songbird Zelda replica (mostly because Spencer is currently out of stock)... I hope I'm not regretting my decision--would you say the Spencer requires more or less airflow than the Songbird? I really want something I can play at lower volumes to not bother family after playing for more than a few minutes 😅 Storytime: my first ceramic ocarina was the "sweet potato" inline ocarina probably 15 years ago. I got another one around 3-4 years later, the STL alto c in blue (not the Zelda replica though), and I was not hugely fond of the breath pressure required or overall sound. Hopefully the new songbird will inspire me to play more and/or record!!
Do you know how to play "bolero of fire" on the Ocarina, if so can you make a video of you playing bolero of fire just for me because I'm getting a stl 12 hole Ocarina of time on wishmas at desert pines.
Spencer's more expensive while Songbird is more of a budget side ocarina while both are very amazing if you don't plan on spending too much go Songbird. I've heard songbird ones more often while it's my first time hearing a Spencer's. Edit NEVER BUY AMAZON OCARINAS
I want the Songbird 12 hole ocarina because it's not too expensive and it has an actual platinum Triforce ring/band, unlike the STL which just has the ring painted on, like the original comment said. The Spencer ocarina, while having two different subhole options, is just out of my price range right now. I have STL's Shadow Element ocarina, a bass ocarina, which normally sells for the same price as the Spencer OoT ($199), but I got the Shadow ocarina for a bit less than that; about $150
I wanna buy one and I like how the STL sounded. I wanna play it, but I can't read sheet music unless it'll just show me pictures of what holes I should put my fingers on. Please help.
Most ocarina sellers either give you a song book or give you the option to buy on and most of those books come with tabs (where to put ur fingers). Plus looking up “finger chart/tabs for [insert song here]” into google works too.
The song bird is pretty close. Spencer has always had long wait times lol, but I fear the pandemic has made things even slower because materials are harder come by
I played 12 hole for a long time and then moved to the 7 hole, and it is a lot easier to play than another pendant. I won’t say it’s the greatest ocarina, but I feel like some of the notes you botched might be able to be fixed with either changing the breath pressure or ducking your head at the high notes. I urge you - DO NOT BUY THE CERAMIC VARIANT!!! I bought it after playing the plastic for a long time, and the ceramic was SEVERELY out of tune!! It’s meant to be an art piece, not a playable instrument. Maybe I got a defective one, but the customer service rep that emailed me just told me to stop playing the the key of A and play all the other notes flat so they all sounded in tune by comparison 😒
Ocarinas suck, they're always out of tune somewhere. Hell, most ocarinas are harder to play in tune than a friendless bass guitar. With that said I have three Ocarinas and have been playing for 7 years. They're very portable, affordable and a great instrument to play if you already know how to play the flute.
Can someone explain to me why the 7 hole ones have 2 holes that are just for show? They look stupid and you couldn't use your fingers to play them anyway.
You may want to update your video. Sadly, Spencer seems to be done. No more news from any social media. Their website only state everything is out of order. And according to comments on their FB that were unanswered, the last order people sent to their website were never sent to the customers
That’s too bad, his ocarinas are some of the best and very much worth the price (if you get them). I will still recommend them, as they’re amazing ocarinas, but since they’re impossible to order, that recommendation is contingent on if he takes orders again and fulfills recent ones.
@@AndyCormierYT it is really cool, sounds exactly like the actual ocarina of time, well tuned and close enough to the original even though it is missing that silver part. It also costs only around 60-70 bucks, so it is cheap. (shipping not included haha). You should really try to get a hand on it if you are into zelda ocarinas.
The Kokiri Edition Ocarina of Time isn't that hard to play. I have two that I own, and I prefer them because of their accuracy to the look of the one in the game.
This video made me sad and happy... so nice that you put your cat in your video, I really miss mine. I wanted to ask what do you know about Focalink on Amazon, I got a Songbird and came with this scratch lines, the description said "full satistafction or money back" and they told me the lines are normal from the making and that was all, I dont feel like buying a Songbird Focalink after that, might be a fake vendor? Contacted Songbird with no reply. Thanks for the video.
Late reply, but "traces" or "mold lines?" on plastic ocarinas seem to be the standard and are not considered defects. I have a 12-hole here from a different brand altogether and it's got them, too. The supposed reasoning behind them is that when the ocarina is made, there are rods slid into the mold that make space for holes and can be removed to allow the mold to be emptied--when material is pumped into the mold, hot air is left when it moves around the rods and it rushes out, presumably leaving a "trace" (I guess where the pressure isn't great enough to expel the air? Maybe it says something about the production process?). I am nowhere near knowledgeable but that's what I've read. Anyway, apparently Songbird works closely with Focalink, so that looks good to me. Addendum: What I meant by that last thing is that Focalink in fact supplies Songbird with all of their plastic ocarinas, to my knowledge, and maybe some change. This is true in degrees for some other ocarina outlets, too.
@@gausscone thanks for the reply mate :D. I ended up sending it back as it annoyed my ocd to see the lines. Will be buying a Night by Noble, hope it doesnt comes with those lines and if they have to be there hope they are at the bottom and not at the top as it happened to me. Again thanks!

@moody where did you get it?! I remember seeing one ages ago and didn't buy, but the other day I sent to his website, FB page, Insta, and they all seem abandoned for several years. Even searching Tenrai ocarina on eBay turned up nothing.
@@willparryhdm i used the official website, and wasn't even sure it would be properly registered/seen there was so little (really no) communication. i wasn't completely sure i'd even be getting one until i got the "it shipped" email and right after that i went to the site and noticed he marked *everything* in his store out of stock/sold out - mine showed up and it made my several months after very happy but to this day it's still marked that way. i can only assume covid killed his business even harder than those steep asking prices because i haven't heard a peep in a long time - definitely keep an eye out in case, i was annoyed the lack of communication meant i couldn't get the fairy ocarina, as i was planning to buy it right after, and part of me still hopes he/his team/whoever isn't finished making these for good a bit - at least i have the ocarina of time though, i just wish it wasn't the last in existence potentially
Actually Spencer gives you a choice on subhole placement, he also raised the price to $299. I do happen to agree on the Songbird OoT's, sometimes I can get them to play the high notes well and sometimes they just do not want to work. That and the Japanese subholes make me not play my Songbirds as much, with the exception of my SoL because I love that thing, though I do wish it was in the key of C.
He's cute 🥰 I can understand why you get annoyed with him though; having a whole desk of ocarinas that are quite expensive and having a pet that wants to jump on things at the same time can make things harder for you. Maybe put your ocarinas somewhere where your cat can't reach them?

The Spencer ocarina, while having two different subhole options, is just out of my price range right now. I have STL's Shadow Element ocarina, a bass ocarina, which normally sells for the same price as the Spencer OoT ($199), but I got the Shadow ocarina for a bit less than that; about $150
I have the Songbird 12 hole Ocarina of Time now. It's great!
you should also see a viento kanta ocarina, its same as STL but the design is different and I think it was cheaper
I would concur that it's easy to miss the holes if you're not used to the instrument.
The point being the ergonomics on some ocarinas allow your fingers to easily fall into place, whereas the OoT double is not quite so natural
BTW Spencer is $300 now.
As it should.
Heads up on the 7 hole. You still need the route bend for the upper range
Your song of storms summons your cat
Hey loved the video! Do you know where I can buy a Spencer Ocarina? I keep checking their site and they're always sold out :(
I would just go to either Songbird or STL instead. I don't think the store is coming back anytime soon.
The song bird is pretty close. Spencer has always had long wait times lol, but I fear the pandemic has made things even slower because materials are harder come by
The double sounded the BEST!!!!!!
What about plastic Ocarinas from TNG ocarina ????
Ocarinas suck, they're always out of tune somewhere. Hell, most ocarinas are harder to play in tune than a friendless bass guitar. With that said I have three Ocarinas and have been playing for 7 years. They're very portable, affordable and a great instrument to play if you already know how to play the flute.
This helped me pick one thank you
Can someone explain to me why the 7 hole ones have 2 holes that are just for show? They look stupid and you couldn't use your fingers to play them anyway.
It's to have the "look" of the Ocarina of Time. It's for someone who wants a perfect replica of the in game Ocarina
Did you notice you keep making kitty reappear after you make it disappear... Lol
I will still recommend them, as they’re amazing ocarinas, but since they’re impossible to order, that recommendation is contingent on if he takes orders again and fulfills recent ones.
does anyone hear the one wrong note in the song of storms?
but what about the Zfan Ocarina by Rotter? You should certainly try that one out
I wish I had one of those! Heard amazing things.
Though, while it's OoT inspired, I wouldn't necessarily call it a replica
@@AndyCormierYT it is really cool, sounds exactly like the actual ocarina of time, well tuned and close enough to the original even though it is missing that silver part. It also costs only around 60-70 bucks, so it is cheap. (shipping not included haha). You should really try to get a hand on it if you are into zelda ocarinas.
The STL with the high notes, reblow it to sound like in game
The Kokiri Edition Ocarina of Time isn't that hard to play. I have two that I own, and I prefer them because of their accuracy to the look of the one in the game.
i got a STL ocarina from a comic convention
Just bought Spencer ocarina
you are rich
Same here. I can't wait for itttt!!!
The plastic 7 hole ocarina of time is the EXACT ocarina I am holding 0-0
I just order the oot an the concert series black ocarina from spencer ocarina an I'm waiting for him to come out with his 22k gold plated ocarina do u know when it we'll come out ? Just wanted to know so I can start saving up my money for one or 2 maybe good video
The gold plated all ready came out
How do I buy it
It's gone forever
They dont hawe the STL ocarina anymore. Does anyone know where you can buy it as well?
the stl website
I prefer the Redux Mod over vanilla OoT N64
Now, Inverted Song of Time...
Nikocado Avocado knows Zelda?
you've probably been asked about this, but if you aren't aware, definitely check out the tenrai ocarina of time replica! it's,, insanely expensive and actually even went UP in price fairly recently and it made me mad lol- that said, i finally bought one *yesterday* after drooling over this model for 10 YEARS before the current design was even finalized, this dude was doing serial numbers and prototypes and selling them on eBay ffs lol
I've only ever seen it in legends. Would love to review it (when I can afford to spend that much on an Ocarina :))))
@@AndyCormierYT i rly wanna see more reviews on the thing! i just wish they'd knock down the price tag a bit, it's insane ;w; i only just bought it and finally caved after an entire DECADE so like,, that kinda says a lot lol
@@moody7063 I've heard great things about it from friend who've got one. It uses a pendant-esq fingering pattern, which makes sense, but I'm not a huge fan of. However, for the aesthetic alone, my wallet reallllly wants to get empty for it
@moody where did you get it?!
The STL ocarina costs 9,99 "Euro"
9:10 song of momo
So... What is the best for a beginner?
STL.
@@originalstarwalker21 Thanks.
@@elishaschoonover8914 np :)
Your cat and you kind of look alike for some reason
STL has a double OoT, you know.
The Spencer Ocarina of Time is sold out T_T.
I personally love all of them
Sorry realized I’m VERY dumb
Spencer is not selling ocarinas anymore. :(
I seen that I was probably one of the last few to put a order in before he closed it.
Luckily I’m apart of that 5% so I’m cool😎👍🏻
🫡 Luckier than most!
The Spencer Ocarina is $299
subbed
Thank you!

Your cat... What's his name?
His name is Momo :)
He's cute 🥰 I can understand why you get annoyed with him though; having a whole desk of ocarinas that are quite expensive and having a pet that wants to jump on things at the same time can make things harder for you. Maybe put your ocarinas somewhere where your cat can't reach them?
Have me your cat I need it
This is gonna be good help for getting my girlfriend a Christmas present. Thanks for the vid, Andy!

Please stop with the "shocked" youtube thumbnail look. Why does everyone do that?
Caaaaaaaaaaaattttt
I am so sorry to say this but it’s killing me. You said “song of storms” and it’s “saria’s song”
