    I used to live in an apartment with really thick brick walls and a thick concrete slab floor.
    My neighbor below me and one unit over could hear when I practiced with my night my noble alto c. She didn't complain, she thought it was very beautiful. I even brought it down stairs and showed it to her, and explained a little bit of the history behind it. At least as best I could remember off the top of my head.
    I always made sure not to play any time other than 9am to 5pm. Since I was a college student, my hours lined up just right to let me practice a little in the afternoon on most days.

    Buying my first ocarina was one of the best things I ever did. I bought the Kokiri Edition from Songbird and I love it. I didn't really know anything about music when I started, but now I can play a few songs by memory. I still need to learn how to read sheet music but as long as I know what note I need to play, I can play it without the tabs. So, I'm kind of in between there. I also bought a ceramic starry night glaze version of the Ocarina of Time from Songbird but that one's a bit more challenging for me because of the wrist thing that you mentioned. I'm hoping with a little bit of practice that I might be able to get it, but it's a lot easier for me to play the pendant style at the moment. But the ocarina led to better breathing for me which in turn, actually led me to exercising more because I was no longer out of breath constantly so now, I'm on my way to better health as well. So, to me, the ocarina is the best for more than one reason! Plus, it's just a lot of fun to play too! 💗💗

    I love playing my Ocarina. It is a little difficult at time, because I am visually impaired to read sheet music and the tabs. I have to watch a lot of videos and just listen to the notes that the RUclipsr plays. Other than that I love playing the Ocarina. .

    i think the price thing is a really huge benefit to the ocarina. i play guitars, and for what would be considered a budget, decently playable guitar would be $200-$300 easily. you can get several high end ocarinas for that price.
    ive not bought one yet, im buying my first one soon. Looking at a stein/fokalink double alto C. a double might be more challenging to start but i like the idea of extra range. might end up being a mistake, but hey, its only an extra $50 for a really nice alto C 12 hole if the double is too much to handle starting off.

    One of the problems I have come across in my ocarina journey is finding sheet music to play. Maybe a video on where to get a variety of sheet music that isn't just Disney or folk songs or pop songs would help.

    • @golbatgirl
      @golbatgirl 9 месяцев назад

      @@Jeffkanku while that is a novel idea I’m asking more along the lines of how to find sheet music to play. For reference I already played the recorder, clarinet and violin before picking up the ocarina. I’ve actually found quite a few songs I can transfer between instruments in my clarinet books. What I am asking is for some general advice on finding sheet music for those who picked up the ocarina, learned notation and want to play songs that aren’t in the limited availability of books for ocarinas without having to transpose it themselves.
      I know of some of the resources and actually have started transcribing and transposing music for the Alto C. But that is actually a skill I picked up from playing an instrument for the last 29 years. Not everybody has that skill set when they are first beginning.

    • @AndyCormierYT
      @AndyCormierYT 9 месяцев назад

      I'm not the best person to ask, since most of the sheet music I practice (for Ocabanda) is arranged for my specific ocarina, but you can look into instruments with analogous ranges (e.g. Some Piccolo music fits for Soprano C, some recorder music for Alto C, etc) or vocal/choral music. A 12-hole ocarina has around the same range as the average person's singing voice, so vocal music often fits well with a 12-hole's range provided the keys line up

    Ocarinas can accumulate quickly. I'm not even sure how many I have now. A few dozen. They are fun to play, but loud for sure. I can't even play without earplugs.

    • @AndyCormierYT
      @AndyCormierYT 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yup, volume is a problem for many musicians! It's a reason why many musicians sadly end up with hearing loss, so good to wear earplugs!
      Only issue is that earplugs can mess with your perception of toning if they're not "musician earbuds" with some special design, but protecting your hearing is sooooo important

    • @robh.2400
      @robh.2400 8 месяцев назад

      @@AndyCormierYT yeah, I used to be a professional musician, and playing with earplugs was often a necessity. I do use hi-fidelity earplugs now and they let enough nuance through, while protecting hearing. Thanks for still posting ocarina content!

    I probably do have too many ocarinas. I may get another one or two to fulfill specific niches, but further purchases will require thought. (And to be honest, I also have to find the joy in playing again. I’ve been forced to deal with a lot of health crud recently, and it’s taken a toll.)

    Why did I choose an Ocarina? I've been looking for an instrument for a long time, My friend has a Handpan (amazing), but when I saw a group of people in China practicing together, I thought, Dang that's the Zelda instrument, I had forgotten all about it. A little research and I was a sold. No double reed instrument for me, Ocarina all the way. I went with the 12AC-PSE-BK Black and Rose by Taiwan company, Focalink / StienOcarina.

    When I first started I was #3, 4 & 7 xd I took a leap and bought one at the ren faire. I don't think it was tuned very well, but I didn't give up and bought ones from STL. Buying a 12 hole was the big one for me xD I love them so much more than the 6 hole that I have :D

    I am thinking of buying night by noble but from another amazon link thats closer to my country
    Because if I use the original link I have to pay 30 dollars more and that might be an issue for me.
    I have been wanting to buy an ocarina for quite some time I started with researching those 15 dollar ones because they were sold nearby then changed my mind because of the issues and decided to buy night by noble for 30 dollars but now Im not sure if I can double it once more
    There are few comments and the only bad comment is about the low breath pressure it already has , the good ones claim they tested if it was in tune and such
    I want to trust it but I just dont know better

    • @tuna4somereasons
      @tuna4somereasons 8 месяцев назад

      If I get it for 60 dollars (hopefully without any cargo problems which is what I'm concerned of) I probably wont get a better one afterwards and I think thats fine because people trust this ocarina but I cant trust that I will actually recieve it , my country has some problems with those kind of stuff
      Plus there will be extra fees for like %25 from my country
      So I started from looking cheap 15 dollar stuff and now 75
      And I didnt even start out yet

    You forgot an important reason: not knowing what to buy.
    While the material question may be easy (clay is cheap and sounds nice), there are countless models available and the range in quality is baffling... Plus, 6-holes, 8-holes, 12-holes? Major C, G Minor? What is this even? (I have only a rough idea, since I sucked at music classes)
    I'm not sure, if I'd recommend the transverse Zelda Ocarina. It looks frigging great, but I struggle playing it, as my pinkies are pretty useless and the position is awkward to me. Many might be scared of the unconventional system of the 8-hole Ocarina, but I find it easier to play, as it stays firmly in my hand and doesn't require my last two digits. You can also play it faster.
    However, the question that is really hard to answer is what Ocarina would be suited for playing the songs you like... Especially when you have little idea about what you could actually play...
