  • Today, we’re here to celebrate a monumental achievement - the completion of the bridge connection for the Gordie Howe International Bridge. This is not just a bridge; it is a symbol of progress, collaboration, and dedication between the two great countries of the United States and Canada, the largest trade partners in the world.
We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Bridging North America, the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and to every single worker who played a part in this incredible project. Your hard work, perseverance, and commitment have brought this vision to life, and we are all grateful for your efforts.
This bridge, spanning 2.5 kilometers, is now the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. It will feature six lanes, including a multi-use lane for biking and walking, ensuring it serves not just vehicles but the entire community of Windsor and Detroit. The project has come to fruition with an investment of over $6 billion dollars and has seen more than 13 million man-hours of dedicated work, spanning over 2,000 days of construction.
In addition to the monumental undertaking of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, the U.S. and Canadian ports of entry for this bridge will be two of the largest land ports in North America, further enhancing its significance in facilitating trade and travel between our two nations. This bridge will not only strengthen the connection between Windsor and Detroit but will also enhance trade, support economic growth, and bring our communities even closer together.

In western Oregon the local, statewide, and even the national news haven’t said a thing about it. Here’s a shoutout to all the hard work by both countries to the builders and all involved. It's obviously a sorely needed addition to both our countries infrastructures. Detroit languished for far too long.

These people get it, this is the biggest infrastructure accomplishment since the transcontinental railroad!
But instead of the Golden Spike? We have the Golden Concrete Slab, lol.
It's still not 100% completed, but that's OK. people will enjoy this for decades from this day, so it's good to see how others can see the amazing potential this will have for Canada and the USA.

Unfortunately no. There is a rail line the runs under the Detroit River.

All the hoops you have to jump through to cross a bridge that links two nations that could not be more similar, and yet you can walk across the southern border.
