There’s something about watching people discuss and explain something that they are super knowledgeable in that makes it interesting no matter what the topic is!
Dear Josephine, you're such an expert!!! Please wright a book to tell the history and how each dancer has to accommodate and remake the shoes to suit their needs....it's so interesting!!! it's structure and function which a ballerina's life depends on...there are so many intricate details....fascinating....a big fan, keep it up!
DRAWSTRING TIP: Elastic or cotton drawstring tip: keep a "bodkin" in your pointe shoe sewing supplies. The metal bodkin grabs ahold of the drawstring and holds it tightly as you re-thread the drawstring through the pointe shoe casing. Available from Amazon or found in sewing notions at your local fabric shop. 🙂
I really wish I had these videos when I was younger:( my dance studio never taught me how to brake in my shoes. I feel like I really missed out 😭 your videos explain everything so nicely ❤️
An "Elastic Threader Bodkin" is a useful tool for re-threading elastic or cotton cord. Your costumer will have one. Any sewing shop will sell them. About $2 - $5.
Love all of your videos, and very instructive. I always put thumbs up for all of your videos. One suggestion is that with professional dancers and comparing shoes, have them stand up and show more clearly the differences in a more demonstrative way please.
Tip for drawstrings for both pointe and flats is double knot leave a 1/2 inch to inch of drawstring and use medical tape and tape to top of shoe. I untape when gluing.
Yay, Squiggle and R! Have you all seem the Royal Ballet RUclips episode where dancers "Meet Their Maker"? [I'll try to find it & post a link.] Those Freed makers are a rare & special clan of awesomeness, for sure!
I’ve never taken a dance class in my life, and find your videos so interesting. What is the difference between makers of the same style of pointe shoes?
Do professional dancers have a specific stipend or allotment for shoes? For example if you wear a shoe longer or wear a cheaper shoe do you make more money? Or does the company cover whatever you need? Or is it all on the dancer to buy shoes? Thanks!
Lynsey Williams I only know for the royal academy for ballet in London, they get point shoes given to them from Freed. They have shoes for whenever they need them. In a video I’ve seen here some American company’s will give you a set amount and that is what you have for the season. During off season they have to buy their own ones if they have none left from the set amount they received
I am so addicted to these videos and I’ve never danced ballet a day in my life 😁
CovynX X ❤️❤️❤️

CovynX X you’re not alone
I can't explain why I'm so obsessed with these videos.

So happy you used actual snips to cut your shank! It's so much safer than using a utility knife like many dancers do, both for you and the floors!

Okay, why was she the most adorable person ever?

Wow those garden cutter things look so much safer and easier than hacking wildly with a box cutter like most dancers seem to!

Bodkins are the most wonderful tools

Can you show us how to sew the ribbons and elastics in a loop?
