These videos are absolutely great Dancers talking about their shoes. The main thing that is missing is that you hardly ever see the dancer wearing the shoes in the videos and explaining some of the detail which would be incredibly helpful. That really is the missing detail that would add a lot of value to this Shoe Series.
That’s amazing! Good for you! Beckanne really is such an incredible dancer and person! I’ve been lucky enough to see her in a bunch of productions, and she NEVER disappoints! 😍🥰
I remember watching the ballet west documentary and cheering for Beckanne. I wanted her to succeed and climb the ranks even more so to speak. She is so stunning to watch and combined with her smile and beauty inside and out, she is the perfect example of what we think a ballerina should be.
Love seeing how different ballerinas prepare their shoes. I work in law enforcement, and I used to really struggle with shooting, until one of the range staff said to me, “You gear works for you, you don’t work for your gear.” That was a game changer, I committed to obtaining new gear that I works well for me, not just the stuff I bought because an instructor said it “the right piece of equipment.”
Oh I LOVE my *loop* elastic stretchy ribbons! SO much faster to put on/remove and more comfortable. They come matte so no pancaking needed. And I never have to worry about any ends peeking out or anything, either!
I saw Beckanne perform as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake last year and she was absolutely stunning! Just complete perfection! 😍 This was such a great video to see how she prepares her shoes! Thanks for the inside scoop 😉
I'm so excited, she and Chase are coming to Houston ballet and I'm excited at the prospect of getting to her them perform. Never been to a ballet but I'd go for Beckanne.
I would have loved to see them dancing in them afterwards and show how the changes helped. I am a dancer...but not ballet. I want to begin training in this. Due to a health issue I lost some leg strength and I think ballet would be great for me. So, thank you for all the videos!!!
I can't even believe how similar mine and Beckanne's preferences and how we sew our shoes are. I literally always have my ribbons and elastic so tight and find normal ribbons so much better than stretch
I had an extra hard shank pair of Grishkos for my first pair and how my feet survived I don't know. I tried so hard to break them in that eventually I took a hammer to them and they're still brick-like to this day.
I'm always finding random subjects interesting that I don't know much/anything about. At the moment it just so happens to be ballet & pointe shoes. Thanks to RUclips I've gained so much random knowledge, lol. My recommendation are ALL OVER the spectrum😄
I have the same feet as Beckanne! I always had to get a short wide box and the whatever the common bloch shoe back then was what I wore, in a size 3.5XXX. I also sew elastics on the diagonal!
Icy C sadly so many have to buy two pairs. My friend always tries on her “right” side shoes and make sure both of the shoes fit her foot and then she does the same with the bigger size on her other foot. she making having to buy the two pairs it is worth it vs when it is online she cannot make sure they both are comfortable. Her local pointe shop does try to price match when they can due to her circumstances.
I’m an actress and I’m obsessed with my shoes staying firmly on my foot. Once I was stepping on stage, and my shoe slipped off and went flying across the stage! 😂 Now I try to always wear character shoes or t-straps, even though I haven’t found a comfortable pair.
She mentions using paper towels, I used cotton rounds. I would only put one on my big toe and then one on my pinky toe or one on the bottom of the box depending on the shoe. It’s thin enough to feel the floor without overcrowding but durable enough to not have it disintegrated like a paper towel.
I really liked her tips and tricks. There were some I found helpful but I’m not on pointe yet so I’ll have to wait. I like how she tried them on and felt where they were going to break instead of instantly breaking them. I’m curious on how she ties her ribbons since she only had one on each shoe?
Lol - not at all! It's a matter of working up to it gradually, giving your feet time to form callus in the right spots, and definitely, definitely having shoes that have been professionally fitted. You may need to go as far as to New York to have this done - you need to be in a store where they stock enough shoes to actually do the fitting. In a small store they may have the expertise but they don't have enough shoes in stock to do the fine tuning. It really matters. The amount of balance and control that you gain with properly fitted shoes and minimal padding will elevate your abilities beyond belief, it's truly worth it.
I'm always so confused when people talk about lelf vs. right because I've decided which shoe is the left and right but not because of feel? Just because I felt like I should? And I'm not sure I could tell the difference before I decided that (this is my first pair so that could be why though idk)
If you're skilled enough- a sewing machine can be used to quickly sew elastics and ribbons to pointe shoes. I do this all the time- the stitching definitely holds well!
I just had my 2nd pointe class ever and my pointe shoes are digging into my heel because I sewed them right on that line is there anything I can do to help stop that? Without re sewing them though
I was wondering how Beckanne could tell her left and right pointe shoe apart? I know that they aren’t labeled left right, she had to look at them for something subtle. What is it?
I got exactly her shoe from a Pointe Shoe Fitter and i have very long toes and my bigToe and like second toe are waaaaaaay longer than the others, but i was 13 Years old and didn’t know how a Pointe shoe should fit. But later I went to a different Fitter and I got way better shoes :) but I never understood why she gave me those from Bloch
Marian Giallombardo if you cut them too short you can wrap them around not as many times. You can get a seam ripper or tiny scissors to cut the thread and then pull It out so the ribbons come off and you can see new ones.
@@happyclc I ended up taking off one of the ribbons yesterday because it was actually sewn too far back. I was very careful when I took off the old ribbon and the shoes suffered no damage. And I replaced it with a proper length ribbon. I did also experiment with some fabric glue (on left over ribbon) and I think it would also work. My teacher thinks I could keep them as they are as they still stay on decently and for next time I need to remember to not cut them... lol
@@alpacaheartstudios5364 thanks..I am an adult and not lucky enough to have the tiny beautiful ankles so they were not wrapped around an additional time. I did end up taking off one ribbon because it was sewn too far back and I sewed on a new one with the proper length. I am always so afraid to cut anything and this was a good lesson (I still have the ties at the full length because I am afraid to cut them).
I use European Balance And They Break Around 4 days of wearing them, And when I mean Break I mean The Shank comes Completely out! I need to find the perfect shoe though.
It makes the area of the shoe where you glue harder. This gives the dancer more support in a specific part of the shoe and makes the shoe last longer. 😄👍🏻
OMFG ITS THAT SHORT OF A TIME?!?!? How much do they cost?? And you have to switch them THAT often?!?!? Jesus! Definitely a sport for rich people LOL sounds expensive af! LOL how much does a pair cost?!?
Francisco Aguayo its only that short of a time for professional dancers in a company , and they break them in like this so that they are ready for stage. The company pays for the shoes the dancers use in performances as well. A normal dancer would never break in pointe shoes this way . Hope this helped .
Professionals are in their shoes up to 10 hours each day. Of course they break quickly. As for students and hobby dancers, I've met girls whose pointe shoes lasted them for almost two years while still being hard. For me personally, it is usually about 4 months for a pair, as I have quite flexible and strong feet and break the shoes easily.
Francisco Aguayo Plus pointe shoes are basically really hard “papier -mâché” so the sheer strength required alone to “hold one’s self up” is phenomenal and the shoes soften (aka “die) according to temperature, repertoire, usage frequency: it’s all a fascinating world, and fitting pointe shoes is an art in and of itself: (Lots of love & respect, Josephine! 🙏💕) Finding the perfect pointe shoe is my plight in life: many dancers would agree. I’m glad to see you taking interest and respecting our art form that so many people wrote off as “easy” or “cute” - when it’s really actually hardcore. 😊💪
I'm not even a dancer and I find this subject so fascinating. I love seeing how everyone changes the shoe and why.
I am experiencing the same thing. So enjoyable. Also because the ppl seem so friendly and outgoing.
I literally have no clue about ballet and I play handball, but it's so interesting!
Same. I always wanted to be a ballerina as a kid, but never had the opportunity
@@Skitekmuj And I dance now ballet for myself. You can too. Just buy ballet outfit and you can start! Do it girl..
I am a dance going to get my first pair of point shoes today so excited
Really appreciate how much she shared and how comfortable she was with talking about her habits and preferences.
Rachel T i agree!!!
Beckanne is such a gem 💎😍🥰

Yes! I would love to see them in the shoes.
Are all ballerinas adorable!!?? I’ve seen a few vids now, and wow!!! They’re so lovely!!!!
I LOVE BECKANNE! She inspired me to take ballet lessons as an adult!

This is very interesting comment. Someone Please explain, im not a dancer, but enjoy these videos
I love Backanne! She is such a gorgeous ballerina. I can’t wait to see her as Odette/Odile on the 9th 🙌🏼💕
She did such an incredible job, didn’t she?! I also saw her perform, with Chase 😍🥰 it was so beautiful!

i do ballet not on pointe yet it is fun and you will gain a lot of strength

"If the maker sneezes it's a different shoe" hahahahha they must be sneezing pretty often
I find this video so interesting because she wears the same shoes that I did for my first pair! its amazing that my first pair is her pro pair
I had an extra hard shank pair of Grishkos for my first pair and how my feet survived I don't know. I tried so hard to break them in that eventually I took a hammer to them and they're still brick-like to this day.

mary jane utube is an absolute blessing for those who love to learn. Believe me, this gathering of “randomness” is going to pay off.
I have the same feet as Beckanne! I always had to get a short wide box and the whatever the common bloch shoe back then was what I wore, in a size 3.5XXX. I also sew elastics on the diagonal!
My toes go in the shape of a ^ and I have a sucky arch and both my feet are 2 sizes apart. Pointe she fittings usually take 3 hours.

I just got fitted for my first pair of pointe shoes and I am wearing European balance from Bloch
Just paper towel? Omg what a beast
I love these videos they are so helpful for before a performance
Omg just watched one of her old yagp videos. Her arabesque freaked me out. Wow!!!

Could you make a video on how to darn pointe shoes?

Please make a video on new point shoe technologies and materials like gaynor mindens or thermomorph technology
I feel like she wears her shoes like skates. Ice skates need to be tied really tight to support your foot .
You need to show her wearing her shoes!!
I really liked her tips and tricks. There were some I found helpful but I’m not on pointe yet so I’ll have to wait. I like how she tried them on and felt where they were going to break instead of instantly breaking them. I’m curious on how she ties her ribbons since she only had one on each shoe?
My mom used to use a sewing machine to sew my ribbons and elastics in so that i didn’t have to worry so much about them ripping out as much.
I was so sad when Breaking Pointe went off the air
Laura Jackson what do u mean went off air?
Francisco Aguayo it only ran for two seasons and was cancelled in 2014
I hear you on no toe pads. I cut the toes off an old pair of tights and use that - sometimes 1, sometimes 2. It's all I need.
Lol - not at all! It's a matter of working up to it gradually, giving your feet time to form callus in the right spots, and definitely, definitely having shoes that have been professionally fitted. Or to the Pointe Shop in California! Sounds like they keep lots of shoes too.
Love this channel! Wish my feet were that easy😂
i have these shoes too they really works for me

Great video guys
My feet are exactly the same. Pointe was very easy for me, buy finding a shoe that fit was really challenging.

They are my fave shoe too!!😍
I love Beckanne
Oh so did Beckanne end up making principal? I remember that tv show.
No Beckanne IN them?! would have loved to see that even for a second. Not complaining tho it was great.
I could never get myself to like the stretch ribbons either - they never feel tight enough!
I just had my 2nd pointe class ever and my pointe shoes are digging into my heel because I sewed them right on that line is there anything I can do to help stop that? Without re sewing them though
I would re sew them and also check the drawstring! It might be too tight.
Love the video.
I also wear Bloch European Balance
I was wondering how Beckanne could tell her left and right pointe shoe apart? I know that they aren’t labeled left right, she had to look at them for something subtle. What is it?
Maybe she puts it on and if it doesn’t feel right she knows it’s on the wrong foot
I got exactly her shoe from a Pointe Shoe Fitter and i have very long toes and my bigToe and like second toe are waaaaaaay longer than the others, but i was 13 Years old and didn’t know how a Pointe shoe should fit. I wear the same pointe shoes 😍
LOVE THIS😍
I wear Bloch Balance Lissa
I seriously have no idea why I watch these videos... I stopped dancing Ballet when I was 8 :D
If you made a mistake with the ribbons and cut them too short is there anything you can do? And is it possible to un sew them and sew on new ribbons?
Marian Giallombardo if you cut them too short you can wrap them around not as many times. You can get a seam ripper or tiny scissors to cut the thread and then pull It out so the ribbons come off and you can see new ones.
Yes just
make sure they are the right length and don’t make holes in the satin!

What size does she wear?
Please review Bloch Aspirations!!!
Woul you tell me the brand of the shoes, she use, thank you.
ginna ricci she uses Bloch
Why do they jet glue the shoe?
It makes the area of the shoe where you glue harder. This gives the dancer more support in a specific part of the shoe and makes the shoe last longer. 😄👍🏻
Hey. If a regular shoe fits really well. Why not
is she my long lost cousin??
👍👍👍❤❤❤
How do dancers pay for so many pairs of shoes? Is there some kind of exchange system?
Most professionals are in companies that pay for their specific pointe shoes during a season
I never knew Marley Brinx did ballet.
That was my fist shoe and no I am in Russian pointe ruban Radiuses
Omg she is me
I just got my shoes- and I have a weird brand nobody at my studio knew about- It's Nikolay
Those are Grishkos. They changed their name in this country, I forgot why. Nikolay is Mr Grishkos first name.
@@2snowgirl520 Oooh, thank you! I was confused because not even my dance teacher knew what it was
Lol, my first ever pointe shoes were freeds
when u wear the same pointes

Who else is annoyed with the zoom ins
It’s a bummer that we get 1 or no seconds seeing the dancers on point in your videos.
I wish we heard more from Beckanne than the other woman…
how is your wallet even alive
You should review these. The interviewer can put "LIKE" into a sentence 3x. Hard to listen to you guys
