When you go back up to Etna Summit to resume the PCT, make sure you really stock up with fresh water at that high spring near the first peak you summit because there is none until 10 miles later at Shelley Meadows, which becomes bit of an oasis in those parts. When you approach the Shackleford Creek and Kidder Creek area, there is a ultra bonus lake off to the West about 600 feet below the PCT. Man Eaten Lake is well worth the stay over but you will have to work a little to drop in off the PCT. It is 120 feet deep and hard to beat since the cirque opens to the western horizon and the sunset lights up all the surrounding rock walls. It is about 5 miles out of Shelley Meadows to the West as you head toward Marble Valley.

If you cannot muster up the courage to drop down into Man Eaten Lake (they call it "the ladder"), then Summit Lake to the East at the top of the Shackleford Creek drainage is easy to reach from the PCT and makes a nice peaceful night stay over. Be forewarned that the cows are up near the PCT at Gem and Jewel so unfortunately I avoid those two tiny lakes right below the PCT when in that area.
