This is the only video I have seen that steps you through the disassembling of the shifter box. Made me feel better about the whole process. Works great.
Thanks so much for posting this video . The dealership tried to charge me $216 to fix my car. My teenaged son and I fixed it in a couple of hours. It was very easy to do while following your excellent video. I can't even change a tire but managed to fix my own car with your help. Thanks again...from a divorced mother of four who need to save every penny possible. God bless you!!!
This was perfect. Saved me the headache of having to make an unnecessary trip to the dealer. Thank you for showing me how to get the job done. Pretty much walked me through the whole process. Awesome video
Thank you so much for posting this video! I am a newly divorced middle-aged (gulp, painful to type) woman that managed to do this by myself with your help! I replaced with a new metal part and used this as a great excuse to finally buy my new socket set! LOL Love my car but wish it had been made better. Hate all the little crap that keeps going wrong with it. Having the same transmission issues as others & leaking fluid - next job to replace the seal! Thank you again SOOOO much!
You did great job. I did it myself witout taking out the whole decoration for the AC so I just take out the ashtry only..... and I put a hall in the old plastic piece and tie it with metal then I put the spring in it's place and it's worked perfect...... Thank you again. AJ
I replaced my "Pink Thingie" today :) I followed your video and I was able to fix my own car!!. Im so proud of myself, I have never worked on a car before.. Your instructions made it very easy .. I played the video as I got to each part . Thank You!!! You saved me so much money :) I bought my part straight from the dealership $14.01 :) They wanted $500 to $600 depending on what they found plus diagnostic fee $125
So I installed my lock out mechanism(pink thing) today on my Chrysler 300. Same thing as this video except for one screw. Tested it worx great. For anybody who wants to test it wit car turned on b4 u put everything together connect brake wire and transmission wire. Bolt down and I DO STRESS CONNECT THE WIRING BACK ON THE ASSEMBLY!! Save u alot of time lol.
GREAT JOB... i have a 2006 CHRYSLER 300C with about 39k miles and the original factory plastic piece just broke... this video was very helpful.. and you're also right about mileage not being an issue...
Dude you are a freakin BEAST! could not have fixed my car without you. God Bless you brother! you dont know how pumped i was when i finally shifted out of gear. felt so good to fix my baby myself. now i can go to church and see my friends! wooooooooooooooo! thanks again brotha!
Just wanted to say thanks so much for posting this video. My Chrysler 300 "pink thingy" broke too and I have been using neutral w/ the park brake for months because I am not very good at mechanics and dont want to pay for the dealer to fix it, but when I saw your video I gave it a shot and it worked!! I just called my local dealer and they had the replacement part for $7. Your video was by far the most informative on the subject!!
Just followed this for my 2007 Chrysler 300 and saved major cash! I did not have to remove the front dash panel. Took about 2 hours just because i was being extremely careful not to break any plastic pieces Thank you so much! Pink thingy was broken in several pieces, was using e brake im glad I can use park now.,, Thanks again! Good karma being sent your way!
OMG, I followed your video and guess what... It worked! I'm so happy, fell in love with my car all over again. I have had my car rigged for over a year to get it out of park! And I damn sure wasn't paying the dealership $650!! You're a life saver! THANKS ALOT!!!
got my repalcement part at advanced auto parts and going to start this project today my car only has 49,000 miles on it thanks for the great instructional video
Thanks for the vid. I ended up replacing it without having to take the whole console out. Kinda tight down in there but it only took about an hour from watching you video.
Thank's for the vid it save me a lot of money I'm glad I don't have to take it to the dealer now they would have taking me for a arm and a leg thanks again.
jmayor1970! Thanks for this excellent video. Followed every step all the way to the end...except removal of dash bezel. I also dislocated my ash tray return spring because i couldn't see how you were removing the ash tray assembly until I got closer to computer and watched more carefully. Thanks again. Everything works great now. O yes, and I didn't use the new spring sent with parts because it felt heavier thatn stock. Didn't want to rist breaking other plastic anchor for spring.
And this is how a potential $400 car issue can be resolved by a complete Newbie for one easy payment of $29.99 plus shipping and handling! (Speaking from experience.) Thanks again man!
Pink thingy broke off at the little hook that holds the spring. Video saved me some cash and a trip to the mechanic. Plus I learned a little something. Thanks!!!!!!!!
jmayer, though this is an old mod, i recently bought my 300SRT and i heard this is a critical mod, great job on walking me step by step through this process.
This problem occured on my 2006 Pacifica as well. Make sure you have the replacement pink part installed correctly. It will fit into the assembly 2 ways, but one way there's a piece of the pink plastic on the wrong side of one of the levers. Hard to explain, but hope it helps answer someones questions. I'm sure yours is fixed by now or the car gone.
Thanks! This was great. Time and a 5 cent cotter pin saved my daughter $90+labor to replace. One other part, the one is green in the video also broke, but the ideas from Dlarge122878 helped to at least get it going. How do we get just a part and not buy the whole thing? I really hate how everything is plastic and breaking on her car. Rear window regulator pulley, plastic, broke 125+labor, Part of the cooling system, plastic, $140+labor and her door lock switch, plastic broken & yet to fix.
Thank you so much!!!!! i actually made an account to write that to you. The video was beyond accurate. Measurements were slightly different with the '07 Charger, but needless to say it was very much helpful! you saved me money. I ordered the part from Rockauto.com it was only $18.29 with about 3 dollars for regulary shipping.. Estimate from the Dealership was $497.34
Did the job today on my 300C (2006) after I was stuck in park, thanks for the helpful vid. As ever, it's figuring out the hidden clips and electric plug retainers that seems to take the time, and trying not to break any plastic. True the fascia didn't need to come off, but handy now that I've done it to know for the future.
Great video man u just saved us all from those fraudster mechanics out there thanks a lot.. Funny mine was a Chrysler 300 lol and it's exact same thing works great
@RCLUTCH11 Really??? That would be awesome. I looked a while ago and couldn't find it . Funny though because when my ex talked to the dealer they were aware of the leaking problem and told him what seal but didn't offer up the recall info. Thank you so much because I already ordered the wrong part! I am definitely going to call them tomorrow.
@lorenzos221 u bought a whole new assembly, but unless they stoped using the same cheap plastic pink thing it's only a matter of time until u have the same problem! U coulda got a new pink thing on the internet for $30 half the price. U gna pull ur car apart to replace either or and the replacement is metal! I got mines from billet technologies they even have them on ebay
Hey great vid man. I JUST got my car back from the dealer and they told me I need to replace to Shifter Assembly. I KNOW that's not it. I already ordered that little piece but my main problem is lack of tools. I'm thinking it's worth me going out and getting these tools rather than paying the dealer $400+ to replace my entire shifter.
@jmayer1970 Yea thanks man. Got the tools just a few days ago. Watched the vid....and got it done!! 1 problem though....I must have pulled on the shifter while fixing because now Reverse is a dead spot. I have to go down to nuetral t reverse. Down to 3 to Drive....etc....
Great video got everything fixed and back together. Now i can get it out of park and go up and down the shifter but the gears do not engage. I'm not mechanically enclined at all, and what could be the the possible reason for this?
I did a little more research and the "shift interlock latch" is actually recalled by Chrysler and they should replace it for free. I just called and plan to take mine in today. They said it takes about an hour. Here is some more information: Do a google search on Chrysler Recall K39 PDF (it won't let me add the link). If for some reason you can't get it replaced for free, you can find the part on Amazon for $19. Dorman 924-706 Chrysler/Dodge Transmission Shift Interlock Latch
This video saved me on my 2006 Pacifica as well. Same problem but my car was left out of the recall. The problem I have now is that my key will not turn back to the lock position to remove it. The shift cable adjustment is fine, car will start in park and neutral but the key will not turn back to lock now. This happened while I was removing the shift housing to fix the little pink irritant. Any suggestions?
I have a 2010 Dodge Journey that I am having this problem with. It has a manual override lever under the console bin liner and then behind a little cover that pops out. Was questioning if it could be a solenoid issue before I saw your video. It seems that this must be a design issue that Dodge is aware of. Instead of redesigning the mechanism, they just put in this manual override lever.
i got the metal one on ebay it was a bitch for me to do but i got it done and im retarted when it comes to cars so anyone can do it just patience saved me alota money and felt good doing it myself
Thanks for the video. As we were putting it back in, trying to line up the linkage, it was pulled too hard, and now its stuck in neutral, instead of park... idk what to do now?
Hi, I learened that all are not the same. On some models the shifter must be twisted off. Also some vehicles will need to have the entire console removed. It is actually a fairly easy repair, just pay attention to where the fasteners and wire connections go!
Great video,I have an 07 Charger and this just recently just happened to mine. Where did you find the part to replace it? Is it exclusive to dealers only or can it be purchased at an auto part store ?
it cost 30 bones and there is no plastic surgery done on the stock pink one. this is probably the best way to go about this fix, just replace it with a metal one.
did everything BUT now that ts re-assembled, I cant get the keys back out of the ignition. Is there a certain way I need to set or position the latch???
This is the only video I have seen that steps you through the disassembling of the

Yes the back is the best place to start to take the in lock cover off, then work around to the front

The wires with the "black cap locks" need some to push into the lock holes, to unlock the wiring while pulling as well
Awesome video tutorial. Thanks!

Dorman 924-706 Chrysler/Dodge Transmission Shift Interlock Latch
this is the name of the item you will need from advance auto parts.
Dorman - OE Solutions Transmission Shift Interlock Latch
All i can say we must really love our dodges to work on and replace there faulty crap
Thanks I'll be doing this tomorrow

billet technologies has a billet one that they make that is much much sturdier yall!!!
Thanks for the video. As we were putting it back in, trying to line up the linkage, it was pulled too hard, and now its stuck in neutral, instead of park... idk what to do now?
I drilled a hole where the latch was and put a carter key in it "a small carter key" and bend it around the arm and put the spring back on

Cool as guy's
Did mine today on a 2006 300c 30 minutes :)
why exactly did you remove the fascia around the radio with the hvac controls on it
ok i have an issue...i have a 2.7 liter engine....mine doesnt exactly look like that on the inside... im guessing its the same parts coming out though
@msturtle1524 Thanks for the paper clip idea! I think I'll try that!
what hapns if u dont replace the interlock latch and leave it empty ?
whats the name of the green lever on the back?
billettechnology
Thats what I did! Lol
