Your video was the easiest and fastest, thank you! My cousin told me to have it towed to a shop that would charge me $200 just to look at it. A friend said he would do it but he was trying to find the time because he watched a video that required the entire console to be removed. With your video and the grace of GOD I did it myself. I struggled a bit because I didn't have the right tools but I have the right tools now. As a woman I really appreciate easy to follow car repair videos like yours. Thanks again for your awesomeness! 😍

Ya hear people say enough "words cannot express" how happy, how grateful, how pleased I am..Well if ya stop and think about that phrase, words are simply not powerful enough to emit your emotion to others...that's what it means..so words can't explain how much this vid saved my ass today...thank you so much.

This is the BEST video on this topic. The dealer insisted I needed a whole new shifter and wanted to charge over 400$ but I watched this video and was able to fix it by getting that little part for about 12 bucks on Amazon. The only difference is I have a Chrysler 300 and in the bottom of the arm rest there are three bolts that need to be unscrewed because it wont allow for the shifter to come out without lifting the arm rest a little. Thanks for this video.

    Awesome do-it-yourself video!!!
My wife's car broke at 5:30am as she tried to go to work. I got it moving using a screwdriver to push back on the front pink part that has the spring. The spring appears to be missing. Until I have time to fix it next week, she can use the screwdriver to unlock the shifter. Thank you for taking the time to film and post this video. GREAT JOB!!!

I have a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica but it's all basically the same. What I like about your video is you replace the part without taking the gear shifter knob off. I tried to unscrew mine to the left but it wouldn't budge and I was afraid I'd break it. With your method, you don't have to take it off. I bought the metal replacement piece instead of the plastic one and reused the old spring. Thanks for taking the time to post this video to RUclips.

This way very simple. I replaced the plastic interlock for less than $30 on Amazon. I did get frustrated trying to put the shifter back in. I gave up and tried it the next day. I watched another video that showed some extra steps and was able to get it in easily. It was only 5 more screws to remove the console. Slipped right in. Thanks for this video.

Very helpful & informative. Changed out the Shifter Interlock Lever today on my 2007 Charger. One modification added .10 wire to spring and wrapped in around lever to reinforce spring and lessen the tension on the plastic spring hook. Also removal of console was necessary to pull shifter; 3 bolts & 2 screws. One quick remedy to shift out park is to pull chrome trim piece, locate cable for the brake lockout, depress brake pedal, push cable to the left with a screwdriver pull shifter into gear.

Thanx a million man! Your video saved me a very expensive visit to the dealer! I got the old plastic piece out and instead of buying a new one I modified the old one by drilling a hole through it where the hook broke off. Then I looped a solid piece of copper wire thru the hole, hooked the spring to it and it fixed that.

Great video, purchased the aluminum part at OReilly Auto Parts (Dorman 924-706 $37.00) and installed on my 06' Chry 300. One additional thing you need to do on the 300C. God bless this guy. I was gonna have it towed to a shop and hoped I wouldn’t get raped on the cost. Fortunately for me the shop never called me back to confirm the tow. So I said screw it and amazoned in the parts and tools. Took me about 3hrs and a lot of patience. Also thanks to those that added some extra tips like removing the ashtray and center console. For the life of me I could not get the shifter out like shown in the video without removing those two things.

This happened to my 11 year old Charger today. I stopped off at a store to buy a scratch ticket and when back out to my car and the shifter would only stay in Park. I called AAA and the guy who arrived knew exactly what the problem was. He put a screw driver down inside so I could get it into drive and he followed me to my mechanic. I don't know how readily available that front pink switch is but hopefully it will only be 1 hr of labor involved. Thanks for explaining everything so well. I didn't realize there was so much going on under that shifter cover !

Thanks for the video. I drive a different model Chrysler but the gear box is identical so the video was very useful to compensate for the console differences on my vehicle type. Saved me a headache and lots of money. I opted for the Dorman metal replacement instead of the Mopar replacement. Readers: buy the Dorman " Shift Interlock Latch" from Amazon for about $20. If your "pink thingy" hasn't broken yet, it's only a matter of time. Put aside a weekend morning to make a preventive fix to avoid problems later.

The video was great !!!! Our 2007 Chrysler 300 wouldn't come out of park right in front of my garage....how lucky is that ? It could have been 150 miles away out on the road or even 10 miles away and it would have been a tow job......then I would have gotten groundhoged at the dealer !!! We sent off for the aluminum after market part for $25.00. Everything in the video was spot on except on the 300 we had to take out 3 screws under the console armrest so we could lift up enough to get the whole shifter unit out of the car.

I had this 'stuck in park' condition occur yesterday on my 2006 300C. I went ahead and pulled the entire console as I needed to free up the cup holder cover. Doesn't look like I needed to do that but for the cup holder issue. It was heavier as I have the VES with DVD player and screen at the end of the console. But, headed to the dealer tomorrow for the kit. Thanks for the great info! It should go off without a hitch, but I'll let you know.

Bro. Big thanks. Wanna save time n money if shifter don't wiggle out..remove 3 bolts under rubber under arm rest. N lift it up, two behind Ash tray if u gotta. Save money n drill tiny hole in pink thing, from top where snapped bit was and self tapper small screw, holds spring in more or less same place. Refit. It works..yea. bless up.

There was a time, when this assembly would have been made from metal and not plastic. It looks like a cheap chinese toy for little kids. Great job Duane! And great patience on keeping your cool. If I was doing this job, the video would have to be edited or beeped out several times. :D

Thank you for the excellent video. Saved me hundreds of dollars. Call Chrysler and they play stupid that they need to do diagnostic test when it's an $8 part they are totally aware of. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

The recall # is K39 2005 - 2007 Dodge Charger, Magnum and Chrysler 300. They will fix it for free if you have one of these vehicles.

Great video. I opted for the Dorman Aluminium replacement instead of another plastic piece. Mine still seem to work if you giggle it for a bit.

Side Note: The Ash Tray comes out fairly easily by grabbing underneath and tugging gently and it pops out. (Now if you have heated seats then you have 3 electrical plugs to unhook before it comes completely out instead of just the Lighter power). This makes it easier to deal with the shifter cables. Note that the Ash Tray comes out easier if the shifter handle is in Drive instead of Park.
