- Shifter stop working? You can't shift into park or it will not come out of neutral.I will show you how to fix that problem.You will also need to flash the new shifter unit once it is installed.

My Jeep had problems shifting into park years ago, and it was solved by flashing the computer module before anything else was done. It took less than half an hour without removing anything mechanical.
Just wanted to say thank you very much, I had this exact problem, mine would show that it's in reverse but would not go in reverse or park, had to use emergency brake and brick , prices range from $100-$400 for the shifter went to junk, found my exact car 06 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo, and within a few hours including cleaning up lol my car is working wonderfully thank you sooo much!!!!

My mother has this vehicle and the rubber part around the shifter is off track so she can't shift it very easily.
Looks like I'll be having to buy a whole new shifter assembly
And somebody else will be putting this in

my 2009 Jeep GC first has ( transmission over temperature light turn on ) ; I try to see if i can clean the electric shift board ;
i did exactly like what you show us. but after open , i see inside the shift assembly which has a small electric panel with a movable semi circle magnet , i didn't change anything and revise those steps to put it all back.
drive it few times in short distant , everything seem fine ;
then sudden one day the [P] become [R] , [R] become [N] , and [N] become [D] , can't shift further down to [D] position, also no parking on [P] ;
i still can drive the car forward if i shift it on the [ N] position ;
what happen to it ? is the magnet relocated or something get stuck ?
