Great video! But, is the switch broken and needs replacing? Mine did this for the first time yesterday, I was baffled, found your video, got it going, but it did it again later.
@@splatcat4661 well, I replaced the brake switch. Still nothing. Removed the console and found the problem. Mud Dobbers had built several nests up in there. Broke all those loose and the shifter started working perfectly. I couldn't believe it...
You have to replace the break light switch that’s why it keeps doing that I learned that yesterday if your car can’t shift out of park that means that your break light switch is gone bad
THANK YOU!! All the other videos only gave half the answer!! After who knows how many videos, found yours and FINALLY got the fix. Thank you again!!!
Glad it helped you, Jennie! Cheers!
Finally someone actually finishes the instructions! Thank you!!
You are quite welcome, hope it helps!
@@splatcat4661 it did! Worked like a charm and we were able to roll it into the garage to finish the job without being rained on 🤣
@@skylerkeller2785 Awesome, glad to hear it :)

@@SavageCodedid you fix your issue?
Mine does not go into park, i shift to park and stays in reverse. Wonder if my shift cable is gone
So what does it mean if you do this and when you put it in drive it goes in reverse?
thank you so much! your directions were very easy to follow. Now I have to get a new brake light switch or fuse so it doesn't happen again.
Glad it helped!
What was the issue and how to repair it? My jeep started doing that today.
What was the problem?
You ever figure it out?
Thank you , great information
Brother, you just saved my bacon! Thank you very much!
Sir you are 🗣️Freakin Awesome!! Thank you
That was a very good explanation thumbs up 👍
Thanks! 👍
Hey dude, did you ever solve your issue?
The shifter will move to the side, but still will not come out of park. Even with the key in. Even with the engine running. Any expertise there?
Key in, override active, no shift? It's a faulty brake switch at the brake pedal lever itself.
Yup, brake switch is faulty. It's the only thing left, assuming nothing else mechanical is broken in the trans itself, failed cable, etc.
Good luck!
@@smudge1619 thanks. I’ll give that a look tomorrow!

Thanks Bubba!
So does the battery have to have power because my battery is dead and I still can’t get it into neutral
Never mind, it works with the battery dead or missing too
I got the car going , but it seems like it’s stuck in one gear, it won’t shift while I’m driving
Same issue here exactly!
Okay but it locks again once in park . How do I fix it so I don't have to over ride it?
I can't find anyone who says what the actual problem and repair is! If you do, please let me know.
This video may have the answer.

Most likely is "shift lock solenoid" needs to be replaced.

It could be also your shifter interlock actuator. That's the one the pushes the release button, instead of you pushing with your screw driver👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

you don’t need a key keep that button push down foot on the break shit to neutral I do that. Almost on a daily basis with James.
Lost my key, have to get it into nuetral. Battery has power. Can't get it to shift out of park pushing that button down
